This short film was created and produced by [[Ubiworkshop]], and was completely developed internally at Ubisoft Montreal. Set after ''Revelations'', the film concludes the life of [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]], who retired from his life as an [[Assassins|Assassin]] and lived with his wife [[Sofia Sartor]] in [[Tuscany]]'s countryside.

==Plot==
In the year 1524, the former Assassin Ezio Auditore retired to a villa in the countryside of Tuscany, with his wife Sofia and children [[Marcello Auditore|Marcello]] and [[Flavia Auditore|Flavia]]. While Ezio wrote in his study, Sofia asked him to watch Flavia while she and Marcello visit his sister [[Claudia Auditore da Firenze|Claudia]]. Shortly after, he left his study to tend their vineyards while Flavia played nearby the villa. In the midst of his harvest, he saw a stranger cloaked in black, talking to Flavia. Fearing the worst, Ezio hurriedly intercepted the stranger, though Flavia told him that she was no danger, as Ezio saw her necklace with the [[Assassin insignia]].

Later, the Assassin introduced herself as [[Shao Jun]], and then asked for Ezio's help in saving her people and [[Chinese Assassins|order]]. Ezio refused, stating that his time with the order is over, and asked that Jun leave, despite her pleas. Sofia however, bid that Jun should stay, seeing that she came a long way. Jun stays, while the family prepared to rest for the night. Ezio pondered about the time he had left while watching their children with Sofia. The two would then go to bed.

The next morning, Ezio inspected his villa to look for Shao Jun, and finds her in his study. Furious, Ezio told her to leave his study, and shortly after, told her to leave [[Italy]] entirely, stating that she's wasted her time looking for him. Shao Jun, reading a portion of what Ezio wrote in his study, asked him that she just wanted to understand what it takes to restore her order. Ezio informed her on why he was reluctant to help, stating that it could compromise his family. Afterwards, he would take her to [[Florence]] to help him in the grape harvest.

Ezio attended to his business while Shao Jun kept watch. Afterwards, Ezio would take her to the plaza of the [[Palazzo della Signoria]], where [[Auditore Execution|half of his family were killed]]. He would then lecture her on how an Assassin's line of work is done, before leaving back to his villa. In the midst of their departure, the two were intercepted by an assailant, who faced Shao Jun in combat. As Ezio drove a carriage back to his villa, Shao Jun explained her past. She explained that it was her mentor's plan to meet with him, though her mentor was killed by the same men in [[Venice]]. The men were the Imperial soldiers of Emperor [[Jiajing]], who sought to recapture Shao Jun for her acts against his rule.

After arriving at the villa, Ezio tells Sofia that she and the children should stay at [[Machiavelli]]'s home, fearing that the assailants would come at their doorstep. After his family left, Ezio and Shao Jun stayed to prepare for the men. After giving a lecture to Shao Jun about how he reformed the order in both [[Rome]] and [[Constantinople]], Ezio advised her to rest while he stayed at the living room and kept watch.

The Imperial Sodliers arrived as expected, invading the Assassin's home. While Shao Jun fought some of the servants in the upper floor, Ezio fought with the others at the lower floor, defeating three of them. Seeing the [[Mounted cannons|cannon]]-wielding brute readying to fire at Jun, Ezio hurriedly made his way to the upper floor to intercept the soldiers and save her from the cannon's fire, which he does so successfully. Afterwards, both he and Jun would jump out of a window and onto the open field. There, both of them fought the cannon soldier, and after a tough fight, managed to defeat him.

The day after, Ezio would bid Shao Jun farewell, as the latter thanked him for all his help. Before leaving, Ezio gave Jun a small chest, commenting that it can help her some day, though said that she should open it only when she loses direction. Just then, government [[Guards|guards]] approached Ezio's villa. Ezio bids that Shao Jun should leave before they see her. She would then leave, while Ezio talked with the guards.

Despite his disrespectful demeanor, the man bid that Ezio should have courage, and advised him to rest before leaving his company. Ezio, as he looked on his wife and daughter, smiled. The two looked back, though with an expression of distraught rather than happiness.

Ezio Auditore passed away where he sat at the age of 65. Left behind by him in his study was a letter addressed to Sofia. Written there was:

'''Shaun Hastings''' was a member of the [[Assassins|Assassin Order]], who gave tactical assistance to Assassin teams across the globe, sometimes by relaying messages from higher command. His support was often targeted towards Assassins who were out in the field.

Within his team, Shaun acted as both historian and analyst, assisting [[Desmond Miles]] during his time in the [[Animus|Animus 2.0]]. This help mostly came in the form of creating [[Database]] entries on the various people, places, and events he encountered.

Originating from [[England]], Shaun was interested in conspiracy theories and the unexplained from a very early age. Though initially unaware of the existence of the modern-day [[Templars]] and Assassins, when he was around 15, he did some investigations into a company known as [[Abstergo Industries]], and realized that they were ''"up to no good"''.<ref name="AC2">''[[Assassin's Creed II]]''</ref>

This eventually inspired him to prevent their wrongful activities in any way he could. While working as a junior professor, Shaun took the pseudonym "[[wikipedia:Guy Fawkes|Guy Fawkes]]"<ref name="James Morse emails">[[James Morse's e-mail]]</ref> (after one of the co-conspirators of the [[wikipedia:Gunpowder Plot|1605 Gunpowder Plot]]) and began spreading the word.<ref name="AC2" />

He published articles detailing Abstergo's inner workings to [[wikipedia:WikiLeaks|WikiLeaks]]<ref name="James Morse emails" /> and other news groups, searching for people with "stories to tell;" all the while remaining unaware that the Templars would try to silence him.<ref name="AC2" />

[[Rebecca Crane]] was first to realize the danger he posed to himself, and tried to warn him that he was "messing with the wrong people." However, Shaun did not believe her, and eventually, he was found out by Abstergo employee [[Alan Rikkin]].<ref name="AC2" />

Shortly after this, on December 10, 2010, Shaun was kidnapped by Abstergo. Fortunately, he was able to make an escape from the van that was taking him to the company, with Abstergo only discovering afterwards that the van's computer had been hacked, creating a false alert for a need to stop and refuel.<ref name="James Morse emails" />

Shaun was then contacted again by Rebecca, who "rescued" him, and recruited him into the Assassin Order.<ref name="AC2" />

===Hiding out===

After [[Lucy Stillman]] and Desmond Miles had [[Escape from Abstergo Industries|escaped Abstergo]] and reached the [[hideout]], Shaun was first to greet Desmond, and introduce both himself and Rebecca. However, he promptly then insisted that they all get straight to work.<ref name="AC2" />

Desmond then entered the Animus to relive the memories of one of his ancestors, [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]]. While Desmond was inside the Animus, Shaun supplied him with information in the form of Database entries, as well as the occasional piece of advice on [[Glyphs|glyph puzzles]].<ref name="AC2"/>

As the historian and analyst of the Assassin Order, Shaun was constantly working on his computer, and rarely had the opportunity to speak with Desmond – often telling him bluntly to ''"go away"'' if ever he tried to talk to him.<ref name="AC2"/>

Upon setting up camp in the [[Sanctuary]], Shaun helped by hiding the van, and teaching Desmond how to reroute power into the underground chamber.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

Once they had set up, Shaun continued his research, operating similarly to the way he had in the previous hideout. In contrast, he was much more respectful and tolerant towards Desmond – though he was still rude and impatient with Rebecca, which caused Lucy to give him a greater workload than the other Assassins.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

During Desmond's breaks outside the Animus, Shaun told him further history of the events he was experiencing, mentioning things such as the fate of [[Caterina Sforza]], and [[Cesare Borgia]]'s explicit letter to the Pope about his wedding night.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

===Journey to the Colosseum===

After Desmond located the [[Sixth Apple|Apple of Eden]] through Ezio Auditore's memories, the modern-day Assassins were still left with the mystery of how to get to the Apple's [[Colosseum Vault|vault]]. Though Rebecca knew it was accessed with a spoken password, the group was unsure of what it could possibly be.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

Desmond pointed out the numbers they had found written on the wall, as well as the triple triad symbol, upon which Shaun correctly deduced that they are relevant to God, and His [[72]] names. This number, he also stated, was the same year that Rome's [[Colosseo|Colosseum]] was built. They all concluded that that was where the Apple would be found, and began their long road trip.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

On finding the Apple, Desmond used it to ask where the [[Temples]] were located, which resulted in it projecting a series of symbols and images. Shaun, upon identifying the [[Wikipedia:Phrygian cap|Phrygian Cap]] and the [[Wikipedia:Eye of Providence|Eye of Providence]], said that both objects come together in only [[Wikipedia:Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen|one place]].<ref name="Brotherhood" />

However, before Shaun could finish his explanation, [[Juno]] possessed Desmond through the Apple, causing a temporal freeze in those around him, and forcing Desmond to stab Lucy in the abdomen.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

At the point where Lucy and Desmond collapsed, Shaun and Rebecca were still visibly conscious, and appeared unaffected by the Apple's power despite standing in the same positions they were since previously frozen.<ref name="Brotherhood" />
===Lucy's Funeral & Desmond's Comatose State===
Following Lucy's death, Desmond fell unconscious, and eventually fell into a coma. Rebecca and Desmond left with [[William Miles]] to [[New York City]] in an effort to reawaken Desmond, while Shaun stayed behind and attended Lucy's funeral, which was held in a cemetary just outside of Rome. Following a phone call with Rebecca and William, during which Shaun expressed his suspicion that Desmond may be a sleeper cell similar to [[Daniel Cross|another former Assassin]], Shaun boarded a plane and flew to New York to be with them. Eventually, the four of them boarded a plane back to the East, taking the Apple recovered from the Colosseum Vault with them. As they arrived, Desmond awoke from his comatose state, and stated that he knew what they must do.

==Characteristics and personality==

Shaun was often cynical, condescending, sarcastic, and pessimistic. However, he did have a playful side, often inserting humorous tidbits into the Database entries he crafted.<ref name="AC2" /> As a prank, he also once [[E-mails|e-mailed]] Lucy and Rebecca that he had found a "riddle" that held a clue to the location of a [[Pieces of Eden|Piece of Eden]], but eventually revealed that the riddle was just a joke.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

When he first met him, Shaun would often have little patience with talking to Desmond, though at other times, he would converse with him at length. He also often insulted Rebecca, commenting on her immaturity by saying ''"the grown-ups are talking"'' – neglectful of the fact she had saved his life multiple times.<ref name="AC2" />

Shaun was desperate to enter the Animus, and even resorted to begging Lucy through [[Lucy's e-mail|her e-mail]], which she silently declined by not replying. However, when confronted about it, he said that ''"the job behind the desk"'' was much better.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

When talking about his status as an Assassin, Shaun stated that ''"I've killed before, I expect to kill again. It's just that I’d prefer not to."'' He portrayed the rather sarcastic role of an individual who does all the work and never gets noticed or rewarded, as he had complained more than once that no one missed him when he was gone.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

His cynical attitude was also evident in many instances, such as when he pointed out that the Assassins were still killers, whatever their motives; making them no more the ''"good guys",'' than the Templars.<ref name="AC2" />

Shaun was also skeptical of most institutions, such as the church and government. He noted in one description of [[Venice]] that the city's past ''"followed the historical norm: The people got screwed."'' Despite some of [[Subject 16]]'s puzzles implying that the Assassins had actively resisted Abstergo's use of capitalism as a mechanism of control,<ref name="AC2" /> Shaun's dialogue once contradicted this, as he used the word "communists" as a jibe directed towards Lucy and Rebecca.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

Despite his attitude towards Rebecca, Shaun still held her in higher regard than he cared to admit, most probably because of the numerous occasions on which she had saved his life. Only Lucy seemed to ignore his snide remarks.<ref name="AC2" /><ref name="Brotherhood" />

Shaun's interest in history was shown clearly through his extensive database entries, and in an email from [[William M.]], who claimed that Shaun would enjoy the area in which the Assassin leadership was based as it had "lots of history."<ref name="Brotherhood" />

Shaun was quite confident in his own abilities, once calling himself a "master at decryption." He also thought himself to have a gift for "seeing things and making connections," an ability he compared to Desmond's [[Eagle Vision]], only more "useful" in his opinion. He was likely only referring to his high intellect though, rather than some kind of super-human power.<ref name="AC2" />

At one point when Desmond asked Shaun about his love life, Shaun proudly told of his exploits with a girl named Kate, who he allegedly "charmed the pants right off" of.<ref name="Brotherhood" />

However, Rebecca scoffed at this and pointed out that she knew for a fact that Kate and Shaun had not even made it to second base. At Shaun's embarrassed demands for an explanation, Rebecca nonchalantly said that she and Kate had had lunch afterwards.<ref name="Brotherhood" />
