Quite an interesting idea, and certainly something to consider. I would like to point out a couple reasons that make this less likely, in my opinion of course.

The american revolution is relatively recent history when you consider the length of time Assassin's Creed covers. Because of this the developers are less likely to change the grander historical facts so as not to change the historical events and have to rewrite modern history within the game.

These facts would be, say, when, how, and why our founding fathers died, specifically that of Washington and Franklin. That being said, we also know that in the previous games the Mentor has always killed the Templars. Since I highly doubt the developers will change the history of the american revolution, I doubt that they will allow those two to die. Since I doubt that they will die, I also doubt that they are Templers. They could be being manipulated by them, however.

Um, this is actually a reply to the guy saying the British were oppressive rulers. It's actually historical fact that while the Revolution was inevitable, the British weren't oppressive. It was started so that the wealthy could make more money. This is backed by the fact that considering everything that Britain did for it's colonies, i.e. fought in wars to protect them, specifically that of the seven years war, the colonies continued to pay far lower taxes than the citizens in England itself.
