Al Mualim (المعلم ,Arabic ) is an extremely wise and just leader, however rather unpredictable and mysterious at times. In [[Masyaf]], a discreet city in the mountains, is located the fortress and headquarters of the Syrian sect of Assassins, where Al Mualim spends most of his time studying.

By his efforts, the Order has become a well-known and feared but rather obscure faction, inspiring fear and uncertainty throughout the land and spreading rumors that increased the already legendary reputation of the brotherhood. That has been accomplished by the murdering of important and sometimes "unreachable" public figures, in both public and silent assassinations, which made men of power aware of the constant danger.

Al Mualim does not just stress political assassination but education as well. He has a thorough understanding and knowledge pertaining from philosophy to science. This wisdom was employed constantly for the people of the Holy Land and his order. In addition to preaching the [[The Creed|creed]] as the only way to achieve the brotherhood's goal of peace in all things, he emphasizes that this refers to peace within as well. He constantly reminds the assassins, "Never harbor hate for your victims, for such things are poison...", which aided emotional detachment and ensured the dispatching of a target.[[File:Assassins_Creed_Al_Mualim_Assassins.jpg|thumb|Al Mualim during the seige of Masyaf]]The leader of the assassins often employed his "children" as political warriors, directed to fight as the voice of the people throughout the Holy Land, suppressing those who use their power and influence to commit impious acts against society. He rewards success richly, but despises failure and doesn't abide traitors.

Al Mualim shrouds not just his order, but himself in a great cover of secrecy. He reveals little about himself, almost nothing is known about his early life, let alone any life at all beyond his duty as the Master of the Assassins.

In 1190, Al Mualim tasks Altaïr to find the Chalice (revealed to be [[Adha]]) after he returns from another assignment. During this year, Al Mualim resides in Assassin's stronghold in [[Alep]].

In 1191, after Altaïr's failure at [[Solomon's Temple]] that caused the incapacitation and death of one fellow assassin, caused [[Malik]] to lose his left arm, and caused an attack by the [[Templars]] to Masyaf, Al Mualim demotes him from [[Master Assassin]] to [[Novice]], removing much of his equipment and his authority at the order. Altair then goes to earn his status back by killing nine men who support the Crusade from both Catholic and Muslim sides.

After killing the nineth man, [[Robert de Sable]], the dying target states that Al Mualim was, in fact, a [[Knights Templar|Templar]]. Altaïr then returns to Masyaf and finds out that people in the city have been put in a hypnotic trance, but he along with some fellow assassins are unaffected by the mind control and make way to the fortress. Reaching the castle, he discovers that Al Mualim was responsible for this by use of the [[Piece of Eden]] recovered at Solomon's Temple, and confronts his master. After fighting illusions, Altaïr manages to carve his [[hidden blade]] into Al Mualim, ending the cause of the hypnotic trance. As he dies, the leader of the Assassins says that he did it all to ensure absolute peace in the world, and claims that Altaïr, as him, will not be able to destroy the Piece of Eden.

Giovanni Auditore is a [[Florence|Florentine]] nobleman living during the 15th century in Italy: the Renaissance. But he is also an Assassin, a descendant of [[Altaïr]] serving under the powerful [[Lorenzo de' Medici]] and most of all: justice. In 1476, a conspiracy is going on to overthrow Lorenzo the Magnificent. One night, hiding from his family, Giovanni is about to execute a mission for his master. He intercepts in the dark streets of Florence [[Rodrigo Borgia]] and three of his men. Rodrigo flees, but Giovanni manages to capture one of his men. He brings him to Lorenzo, and the prisoner reveals through tortures that the Duke of [[Milan]], [[Galeazzo Maria Sforza]] will be assassinated in the church during the feast of Santo Stefano (the day following Christmas). Giovanni heads to Milan, but he arrives too late as he sees through the crowds the assassination of Sforza. The murderers are all killed by Giovanni and one of Sforza's guards. After this mission, Giovanni goes back to his nest seeing his family. He then meditates on the death of Sforza and its consequences.

Giovanni Auditore is first seen in AC2 at Ezio's birth sequence in the Animus, in which he holds Ezio in his arms and remarks that he is a born fighter. After Desmond enters the Animus 2.0, Giovanni is seen once again at the Auditore's house, where he is proud that Ezio reminds him of himself when he was younger, and gives him (Ezio) two seperate quests (Paperboy & Special Delivery) in Memory Block 1. Soon after completing the quests, guards take Giovanni (alongside his sons, Federico & Petruccio) to prison for being accused of treason. Ezio soon ventures to the prison window that they are being detained in for answers of their inprisonment but Giovanni instead tasks his son to find the hidden room inside of his office (Which hides his assassin gear) and take everything that he finds. Shortly after Ezio arrives at where the execution takes place, Uberto declares Giovanni, Federico and Petruccio guilty of treason, therefore executed, becoming victims of a conspiracy. His execution has driven Ezio into the life of an assassin and Maria into silence.

==Trivia==
*Giovanni's ring finger remains intact due to improvements to the hidden blade and changes to the tactics and traditions of the Assassin order made by Altaïr after the events of the first game. It is revealed during Ezio's Assassins Cermony that instead of removing the ring finger it is instead burned in the form of a ring.
*Giovanni died before telling Ezio (And his two other sons) of their assassin heritage, which dissapointed his brother, [[Mario Auditore da Firenze|Mario]].
*It is unknown whether or not if Giovanni knows that he is the decendant of Altair, but it is more then likely that he didn't, considering Mario never mentions it to Ezio and Ezio himself never finds out.

Swearing vengeance, Ezio has to hide his mother and sister and learn the ways of the assassin. He is first taught stealth by Paula of the Courtesans, and later combat, by his uncle Mario, of the Mercenary faction. After assassinating Uberto, apparently a city official in charge of the law, Ezio has to balance his life between assassinations and protecting his sister and mother, who refuses to speak after Ezio's father and brothers were taken. Unlike Altaïr, he is a seducer, and he easily blends with any social classes. He has an affluent lifestyle and many friends until a life-changing event. He and his family are betrayed, victims of a conspiracy that takes his [[Giovanni Auditore da Firenze|father]]'s, [[Federico Auditore da Firenze|elder brother]]'s, and [[Petruccio Auditore da Firenze|younger brother]]'s lives, forcing him to flee from guards and become an Assassin, not just to protect himself , Mother and Sister, but to get vengance on the conspiritors who betrayed him.

From that day, Ezio is considered a criminal and a traitor, and has to protect his mother and his sister. He becomes an [[assassin]] to accomplish his vengeance against the ones responsible for the tragedy that befell him and his family (it is likely that those men are [[Templars]] (see the last shot of Lineage Part II - The swords are lain down in the shape of the Templar symbol). == Equipment ==
It has been announced that Ezio will be able to use a variety of weapons including two [[Hidden Blade|hidden blades]], allowing him to eliminate two enemies simultaneously. He can also steal (and use) several enemy weapons such as axes, hammers, maces, spears, halberds and two different sword types (one- and two-handed). Ezio will be able to use Da Vinci's flying machine in some parts of the game, gaining altitude from fires set throughout the city by his allies. Ezio will gain many upgrades from Da Vinci on his wrist gauntlet like a small pistol of some sort (most likely an early wheel lock firearm) concealed near his left hidden blade, or a poison needle. Ezio possesses the ability to use [[Eagle Vision]] while moving. * The Italian name 'Ezio' derives from the Greek word 'Aetos', which means "Eagle", similar to Altaïr whose name means "The Flying One".
* Unlike Altaïr (who had his ring finger removed to make way for the [[Hidden Blade]]), Ezio has all ten fingers (as evidenced by the fact he wears a ring -either a signet or wedding ring- marked with the Assassin's symbol). This was not, as is widely believed, made possible by a modification by Leonardo Da Vinci, as Giovanni da Firenze (Ezio's father) has all of his fingers as well. It is likely the change was made at some point between Altaïr's time and Ezio's. This seems odd, as the sacrifice of the finger was originally intended to 'ensure the commitment of whoever wields [the blade]'. However it is possible that as the Assassin brotherhood became more secretive, the missing finger became too obvious as a signal of involvement and was phased out.
* It is stated in the Philosophical Codex that after Altaïr defeated Al-Mualim at the end of Assassin's Creed 1 and became the leader, that the Assassins were forced to realize the scope of their fight against the Templars, and would have to abandon many of their traditions, like the removal of the ring finger or the ban on using poison, in order to survive.
* Ezio uses a wheel lock firearm, a type of weapon that Europe didn't start developing until the very late 1400's and early 1500's, making this weapon most likely one of the very first of its type to appear in Europe, thus many people may not know what the weapon is in game. The earliest firearms were single shot and took time to reload, so will most likely be only used as a last resort weapon. Once again Leonardo Da Vinci didn't create the Hidden Gun, but found instructions to make one from a Codex page, meaning Altaïr invented the Hidden Gun (and most likely the first ever firearm). Also note that Da Vinci created some of the first modern wheel lock pistols, so this could be a shortened version of one.
* Ezio's face in ''Assassin's Creed II'' seems to be a mixture of Desmond's ([[wikipedia:Francisco Randez|Francisco Randez]]) and Devon Bostick's from ''Lineage''.
* Ezio's alignment shifts much throughout Assassin's Creed 2: in the beginning his alignment would have been "Neutral"; after the events in the beginning he would have been "Chaotic Neutral" wanting nothing but revenge, moving up to "Lawful Neutral" respecting the tenants of the creed and not killing out of pure revenge (as seen with the Pope).
