Throwing knives (first available at Rank 4) are knives that Altaïr can throw at his enemies, taking them out from a distance. The knives seem to be one of the most powerful weapons (after the hidden blade) as unless the enemy is a Templar or a boss character, the knives generally kill with one hit. When Altaïr runs out of knives, he can get more by either pickpocketing them from thugs (earns 5 knives), by killing thugs in a fistfight (only 1 knife, zero if a blade is used), or by returning to either an Assassins Bureau or Masyaf (maximizes knife count).

The maximum amount of knives Altaïr can hold increases at certain ranks. After first becoming available at rank 4, at which point the knife capacity is 5, Altaïr gets extra Knife Belts at ranks 7 and 10, increasing the capacity to 10 and 15 (respectively).
Throwing knives returned in Assassin's Creed 2. The damage for each knife has been scaled down to balance gameplay due to the introduction of the Hidden Gun.

*Throwing Knives cost 50 florins each
*Extra sheathes for throwing knives can be purchased at tailor shops. Up to 20 knives can be carried through upgrades. An additional 5 slots can be purchased through Uplay.
Rauf (Arabic: رؤوف) is the first assassin to greet Altaïr upon his return to Masyaf after the failed mission at Solomon's Temple. Unlike that of Abbas, who stops Altaïr at the fortress gate and taunts him, Rauf has a friendly relationship with Altaïr.

Role in storyline
After first greeting Altaïr, Rauf and Altaïr go their separate ways. They will again meet when the Templars attack Masyaf. As Altaïr leaves the fortress, Rauf explains the plan. There are some villagers still trapped in the village overrun by Templars. Altaïr must "distract" the Templars, while Rauf will bring the villagers into the fortress, to safety.

Rauf makes a third appearance in the first memory segment, in which he instructs Altaïr of the plan to defeat the Templars, who are already at the fortress gates. Altaïr, Rauf, and another, unnamed assassin unnamed simultaneously perform a Leap of Faith to demonstrate to the Templars that they "do not fear death, they embrace it". Altaïr and Rauf land safely in the hay- however, the unnamed assassin breaks his leg badly. Rauf stays back to quiet and comfort the man, and instructs Altaïr to continue on and activate the trap. Rauf is the Assassins fighting instructor.

Name
The name "Rauf" (رؤوف in Arabic) means "compassionate". This fits him perfectly- he shows a warm relationship with Altaïr.
