The Bureau is a safehouse located in each of the three main cities in Assassin's Creed. It serves as safe haven for assassins after and before assassinations.

Characteristics
There is an Assassin's Bureau in all three cities, it's basically a safe house for Assassin Instructors in the field and the Assassins Order. The Assassin Bureau's leader provides you with useful hints on where to obtain your information. As soon as you acquire enough information the leader will provide you with what appears to be one of the primary flight feathers of a white eagle, which is yet another nod towards the resemblance that Altaïr shares with the birds. Once you have collected all the required information on an assassination target, and it is possible to do so before entering the Bureau, the leader of the Bureau within that city, provides you with that same feather which is used to claim an assassination by running the Feather through the blood of the target. As proof of the assassination, Altaïr must return to the Bureau and present it as proof of his deed. The Assassin's Bureau will be closed when your current social status is exposed, to prevent guards from discovering the Bureau and also to not have you violate the Creed (never bring attention onto the Assassins Order). The Assassin Bureau is a place where they also make swords, blades and other useful equipment. Just before assassinations the Bureau is used to prepare. The entrance of the Assassin's Bureau is located on the roof probably to reduce the chances of outsiders wandering in out of curiosity. After all information pertaining to high ranked city officials resides within the Bureau.

Building
The exterior of the building is that of a normal construction, although it doesn't have windows nor doors. The entrance is located on the ceiling, that can be reached via a stair located on an entry alley.

The inside is divided in only 2 rooms.
Main Chamber
The entrance to the Bureau, the Main Chamber is a small living area comprised of two fountains and several pillows. This place is intended for an Assassin to rest before and after assassinations, waiting for the moment to strike and then for the moment to leave the town after the dust has settled.

The walls are decorated with hanging carpets and the Assassins Crest, while the ground has plants, pillows, sofas and another carpet.
The ceiling is grated, with a hole that serves as entry into the Bureau. When the city is on alert, a gate is closed as to not compromise the brotherhood and attract authorities to the Bureau.

Bureau Leader's Room
Similar to a store, the leader's chamber is adjacent to the Main Chamber.
Behind a stand, the leader address those who come to speak with him, also studying and attending to the needs of the Assassins operations on that respective city.

Behind this there are also bookstands and closets, where registry of the missions is kept. The books and scrolls the Leader has access are also located in this area.

Across the room, a raised walkway guards weapons and books, things that may help with the carrying of a mission.

All assassinations missions must begin at this room, since the leader is the one who provides the feather for a marked target.

Known Bureau Leaders
*Malik, a dai, is the bureau leader in Jerusalem.
*A rafiq is the bureau leader in Acre.
*A rafiq is the bureau leader in Damascus.

The 'Modern Times' is set in September 2012. You play as Desmond Miles, a descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze.
You have been kidnapped by an organization known as Abstergo, who are working on the Animus project.

Assassin's Creed II reveals a bit more about modern times than it's predecessor. There are still Assassins and Templars, although the Assassins have gone mostly into hiding and the Templars are disguised. One of these disguises is the company Abstergo. It is still uncertain just how much the Templars have grown in influence and how many organizations like Abstergo exist.

At the end of Assassin's Creed II, it is revealed that the earth is possibly going to experience a geomagnetic reversal in the near future. This is revealed by Minerva at the end of Assassin's Creed II. The pictures by Minerva look Mayan, and December 2012 is when the Mayan calender stops, some scientists believe that this means that the Mayan thought that the world would end on that date, but it actually means that there's going to be a great change.

It is widely speculated that this is when Assassin's Creed lll will be set. This only gives Desmond and the assassin's three months to end the Templar threat and stop the geomagnetic reversal, thus saving the world from certain destruction.

Characters in Modern times include: Desmond Miles, Lucy Stillman, Shaun Hastings, Rebecca Crane and Warren Vidic.

It is interesting that although in 2012, neither Abstergo's guard or the Assassins use guns in Assassins Creed 2, instead using advanced weapon sticks resembling swords and hidden blades, respectively. When, however, the Assassins attack Abstergo in Assassins Creed, shooting can be heard. The reason that the Abstergo guards were using the weapon sticks was to not kill Desmond, Lucy, Rebecca, or Shaun, but rather knock unconscious. Abstergo still needs Desmond, so killing him wouldn't help them achieve their goal.

It is suspected that Assassin's Creed takes place in Italy, considering that the outside of the hideout looks almost exactly like Italy in Ezio's time, and that the underground parking lot in Abstergo and the Assassin's hideout have signs that have words in Italian, including "sezione", which means "section" in English. In Abstergo's garage there are signs in italian saying "Parcheggio reservato" meaning "Reserved parking" and "Altezza totale" meaning "Altitude". In the end of Assassins Creed II Lucy says that they can hide out in a cabin north and Rebecca later says that it's a long drive meaning that the cabin is possibly in Austria or Germany or Switzerland.
