The Auditore Family Crypt is the hidden tomb of Domenico Auditore, Ezio's great-great-grand father and the first Auditore of Altaïr's descendants. It is located under the town of Monteriggioni where he built the Auditore Family Villa. It is a UPlay exclusive map that can be purchased for 40 points. The level is a secret location. However, there are no "material" rewards at the end of the level or very few (some treasure cases), but the origins of the Auditore Family and the life of Domenico can be discovered.

Auditore Origins
Throughout the crypt are seven stone plaques that are&nbsp;engraved with the memoirs&nbsp;of Domenico in the year 1296. Six years after he had built the Auditore Family Villa.

Venice, 1296
"I was raised in a small house by the Venetian lagoon, within sight of the rough foam-capped waves of the sea. When I was barely old enough to walk, I became a sailor, navigating the Atlantic first as an apprentice and then while carrying cargo for my father’s patron, Messer Marco Polo. It was a good life."

Ashore
"One day, while ashore in the harbor looking for work, I fell in love. She was barely twenty, but when I looked into her eyes, the whole world was reflected back, clearer and brighter than the sun. After that, I still went to sea, but my heart remained on land with the girl, who had become my wife, and our young son."

Birthright
"One afternoon that summer, Messer Polo called me in his study. My father was already there, beside an older man, dressed in a strange hooded cape, watching us.

At that moment everything about my life changed, my father told me that he was an Assassin. Removing his ring, he showed me a strange marking on his finger, explaining that our family came from an ancient order that protected and defended mankind.

He paused, and then, when I didn’t speak, Messer Polo stepped forward. He told me that the stranger in the hood would teach me, and in return I would carry him across the Mediterranean to Spain. And so began my apprenticeship with Dante Alighieri, one that was to destroy every bit of happiness I would ever have."

A Mentor
"In preparation for our voyage, Messer Alighieri met with me repeatedly. At first, our meetings were about purchasing supplies, but soon they became about higher things about life, love, honor and justice.

He taught me that society was set up in such a way as to control its members, to stop us from thinking, from seeing. Soon, I could look past all laws and illusions. I understood that mankind was being used by its rulers, that we, the people, deserved freedom.

It was then that Dante began showing me pages from a book that Messer Polo had brought back from the palace of the great Genghis Khan. The manuscript, the Codex, was about our order, the Assassins."

An Unexpected Farewell
"Our planned voyage never took place. While returning to Ravenna to pick up the remainder of his belongings, Dante died. Dismayed at the loss of my mentor, I went to inform my father and Messer Polo of the sad news. Before I could even speak, I was ushered into the study, and my father, his face white, locked the door behind me.

Shocked, I listened in silence as he spoke. Dante intended to take the codex to Spain where it would be safe. But he was being watched. The enemy of the Assassins, the Knights Templar, still existed.

I recalled the stories he had told me of the Templars, and it all became clear. Dante had been murdered. The Templars knew about the Codex and they knew about us. Shaking my father told me to take the Codex and leave for Spain at once with my wife and child.

As Messer Polo ushered me out the door, he handed me a small piece of paper with a number on it. With this number, I could draw on his credit, more Ducats than I had ever seen in my life, at any bank in Italy."

At Sea
"We set sail that night, the ship filled with cargo to sell in the markets at Barcelona. At first, all was well. Then, to avoid a coming storm, we laid anchor in the Otranto harbor. Cloaked in darkness, the pirates came. I didn’t see them until they were already boarding my ship.

I hid my family in the hold. Pulling out the Codex, I ran the worn leather cover through my hands, then, I broke the spine. The pages slid silently onto the floor, I scattered them into the chests, boxes and containers I was carrying to market.

The men who found us were drunk, I could smell it on their breath. When they asked for the Codex, I knew who had sent them. Holding back my rage, I said I had thrown it overboard.

They started to laugh. Two held me down, still grinning, while the rest cut off my wife’s clothes. She begged for mercy until her voice gave out. Once they were done, they threw her into the sea.

They took my cargo and sunk my ship, and left me, adrift, clinging to a piece of railing.

I made it to the beach with my son. My wife’s body washed up on shore the next morning with the tide."

A New Name
"I never saw the sea again.

Making my way to Florence, I rented a small room and then visited the bank. I had memorized Polo’s account number.

With the vast sum I now had at my disposal, I went to Venice in disguise to find my father. I returned to Florence the next day. Both Polo and my father were already dead.

From that moment forward, I collected treatises on architecture, studied the classics and took vocal lessons. I adopted the name Auditore, impersonating a noble at the Florentine Court. Accepted as one of their own, I took on the trappings of the nobility and constructed this villa for me and my son.

And then, I hunted them. I raised my son to fight, to find the Codex, and to kill Templars. Together, we would regain the honor of my wife and avenge the death of my father, two debts that would never, that could never, be repaid.

To the Auditore that reads this, remember that you are not a nobleman. You are not one of the deceivers, you are one of the people. Avenge us!" - Domenico Auditore
Trivia
*It is interesting to note that there are two sarcoficuses in the crypt, one having what appears to be wilted roses on top of it.
We are the Auditore da Firenze. We are Assassins.

The House of Auditore was a noble family of Florence. Its prominent period was very short (for approximately 100 to 200 years).

History
The origins of the family have been very mysterious publicly, but the truth is the story of a man who raised his family to secretly fight against his sworn enemies.

13th century, one day, a young Venetian discovered his true identity: he was part of the Assassins, an Order dedicated to kill the tyrants oppressing the people. Since then, his life and perception of the world changed. But the Order was not without enemies. As he was tasked to hide an important writing safe to Spain, he was tracked by these enemies: the Templars. He eventually lost his mentor, his wife, his father and his patron Marco Polo. With only his son remaining, he used the bank account given by Marco Polo to impersonate a nobleman in Florence, taking vocal lessons and studying architecture and classics. For this, he adopted a new name: Auditore. He was accepted by the local nobility. He then constructed a villa in the city of Monteriggioni, hunted the Templars and trained his son to fight them and collect the codex pages. Before his death, he left the origins of the family engraved on stone plates in the family crypt hidden under Monteriggioni.

Over the years, the family gained in prominence even becoming a close ally of the Medici dynasty, ruler of Florence. However in 1476, approximately 170 years after its creation, the Auditore family collapsed, victim of a conspiracy led by Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Templar Order and the Pazzi family, enemies of the Auditore and secretly Templars. They were considered as traitors of the Republic and excluded from the nobility. Most of the male members of the family in Florence were executed only leaving Claudia, Maria and Ezio. After the execution, they took refuge in Monteriggioni under the protection of Mario Auditore, a condottiere with an army of mercenaries at his disposal to fight against the Templars in the region. He is as well the brother of Giovanni, patriarch of the family in Florence who was executed along with his two sons. His only remaining son, Ezio took on his work and sought vengeance against those responsible for his father's death. He contributed as well in restoring the villa and the city.

It is unknown how many persons bore the name of Auditore after the events of Assassin's Creed II, but most of the information about the Auditore family has been erased from History after the conspiracy and the name was most likely lost over the centuries. The lineage however kept extending with two known descendants of Ezio Auditore in the 21st century: Desmond Miles and "Subject Sixteen".

Members
*Domenico Auditore (founder)
*Giovanni Auditore
*Mario Auditore
*Ezio Auditore
*Maria Auditore
*Claudia Auditore
*Petruccio Auditore

Trivia
*Most likely unknown by its members, the Auditore family is descended directly from Altaïr, one of the greatest warriors of the Assassin Order.
*If the Palazzo Auditore is visited during the Bonfire of the Vanities, Ezio can see his family face to face as a loving memory.
*After exploring the Auditore Family Crypt, it is discovered that the Auditore are not truly nobles, but only pose as nobles to cover the fact that they are Assassins.
Al Mualim (المعلم ,Arabic for "The Teacher" or "The Master"), was the Grand Master of the Assassins Order's Syrian sect during the Third Crusade and mentor to his successor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. He secretly was a member of the Knights Templar.

Biography
Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles
In 1190 AD, Al Mualim tasked Altaïr to find the Chalice (revealed to be Adha) after he returned from another assignment. During this year, Al Mualim resided in Assassin's stronghold in Alep. His beard in this game is also much shorter and has a black colour.

Assassin's Creed
In 1191 AD, Al Mualim sent Altaïr to retrieve a treasure beneath Solomon's Temple and bring it back to Masyaf. Altaïr brings along two fellow Assassins on his journey, Malik A-Sayf and his brother Kadar A-Sayf. Inside the temple Altaïr breaks one of the tenets of The Creed by killing the Old Man who was guarding the entrance. Once inside, Altair spots Grand Master of the Knight's Templar, Robert De Sable entering the Temple with his guards. Altaïr breaks another Tenet by trying to Assassinate De Sable, but the Templar deflects his blow. In the following moments Robert De Sable and his guards attack the Assassins, Kadar A-Sayf is killed and Malik A-Sayf loses an arm.Altaïr manages to escape and return to Masyaf.

When Altaïr reports his failure to Al Mualim, he is angered, but his anger quickly turns to fury when Malik returns, bloody and wounded. Then to make matters worse, Robert and his Templars attack Masyaf. Al Mualim keeps Robert talking while Altaïr releases a trap onto the Templars. Even though Altair saved Masyaf, Al Mualim demotes him from Master Assassin to Novice, removing most of his equipment and his authority at the order. Al Mualim decides to give Altaïr a chance to redeem himself, his rank, and authority in the brotherhood by sending him to kill nine men who are orchestrating events of the Third Crusade from both Christian and Muslim sides.

Altaïr traveres through the Holy Land, hunting and killing the men. After killing the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, Robert de Sable, the dying Templar states that Al Mualim once was, in fact a former Templar. The treasure at Solomon's Temple was in fact, a Piece of Eden and the Templars were planning to use it's unimaginable power to control the minds of the population. However, Al Mualim didn't want to share that power.&nbsp;

Altaïr then returns hastily to Masyaf to find that the people in the city have been put under a hypnotic trance by Al Mualim, but he along with some fellow assassins are unaffected by the mind control and made their way to the fortress. After reaching the stronghold, he discovered that Al Mualim was responsible for this by use of the Piece of Eden recovered at Solomon's Temple, and confronted his master.

After fighting several illusions that consist of the nine men Altaïr killed throughout the game, and replicas of Al Mualim himself, Altaïr finally manages to plunge his hidden blade into Al Mualim, ending the cause of the hypnotic trance. As he dies, the leader of the Assassins said that he did it all to ensure absolute peace in the world, and claims that Altaïr, as him, will not be able to destroy the Piece of Eden. After his death Altaïr takes his rank as the Grand Master Assassin of Masyaf.

Characteristics and Personality
Al Mualim, though known for being a wise and soft-spoken leader, at times shows himself to be mysterious and unpredictable. He never talks about anything too personal or suspicious about himself, and always changes the subject or gives an unexpected answer when people start questioning him; Or as Altaïr says, "digging deeper". He shrouds not just his order, but himself in a great cover of secrecy; he reveals little about himself and almost nothing is known about his early life, let alone anything beyond his duty as the Master of the Assassins. Masyaf, a discreet city in the mountain that acts as the fortress and headquarters of the Syrian sect of the Assassin Order, is where Al Mualim spends most of his time studying.

By his efforts, the Order has become a well-known, yet obscure faction, inspiring fear and uncertainty throughout the land and spreading rumors that increase the already legendary reputation of the brotherhood. This has been accomplished by the murdering of important, and sometimes "unreachable" public figures, in both public and silent assassinations, which made men of power aware of the constant danger.

Al Mualim does not just stress political assassination but education as well. He has a thorough understanding and knowledge ranging from philosophy to science. This wisdom he employs constantly for the people of the Holy Land and his order. In addition to preaching The Creed as the only way to achieve the brotherhood's goal of peace in all things, he emphasizes that the Creed pushes for peace within as well, on one occasion advising Altaïr not to demonize his enemies: "Never harbor hate for your victims, for such things are poison...". The leader of the Assassins often employs his "children" as political warriors, directed to fight as the voice of the people throughout the Holy Land, suppressing those who use their power and influence to commit impious acts against society. He rewards success richly, but despises failure and doesn't abide traitors.

Final Words
(Al Mualim collapses. The Piece of Eden falls from his hand and rolls away).<br />

Al Mualim: Impossible! The student does not defeat the teacher!<br />

Al Mualim: So it seems. You have won, then. Go and claim your prize.<br />

Altaïr: Then I will!<br />
Trivia
* Al Mualim in arabic means "The Teacher" or "The Master".
* Al Mualim is likely based upon a real life figure named Rashid ad-Din Sinan, a.k.a. The Old Man of the Mountain, who led the Syrian Assassins and died within Assassin's Creed's time-line. However, this is unconfirmed.
* Despite being the Master of the Assassins, Al Mualim appears to have all ten fingers. The reason has not been given thus far, but possibly because he has no hidden blade.
* In Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles, set one year before the events of the original game, Al Mualim appears to be a bit younger, as his beard is black. He also has different clothes.

* He is around his 50s during the events of the first game.

* When he teleports around the field and decreases your sync bar, you can easily distract him with a throwing knife and then move in for the kill.

The Crossbow is a long awaited weapon for the Assassin's Creed series. This weapon was originally seen in the trailer for Assassin's Creed, however it was not included in the game due to historical inaccuracies.

There is also hinted to be a crossbow in the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood as one is seen on Ezio Auditore da Firenze's back in a concept art, and at the end of the E3 singleplayer trailer. Also in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood E3 2010 Story walkthrough it is said that during horse rides you can use weapons such as the crossbow.
