Aguilar de Nerha was born in 1455 to two members of the Assassin Order. Aguilar was trained by [[Mentor]] [[Benedicto]] before being formally inducted into the Order in 1492. Aguilar's first mission was to spy on a meeting between Torquemada and his top enforcer, [[Ojeda]], during which he learned that the King and the Queen had given command of the Spanish army to the Grand Inquisitor and that the Templars were about to set a new plan in motion. Meeting with Maria, the senior Assassin tasked Aguilar to gather other Assassins and set a new base of operation in an abandoned fortress of the Sierra de Cazorla, from which the Assassins harassed the Templars.<ref name="Rebellion" />

===Rescuing the Prince===
Later, the Spanish Assassins tried to ensure the safety of Prince Ahmed of [[Granada]], the son of Sultan [[Muhammad XII of Granada]], whom the [[Templars]] were searching for in order to ransom him against the [[Aguilar's Apple of Eden|Apple of Eden]] they knew to be in the Sultan's possession. Together with Maria, Benedicto, and a number of other Assassins, Aguilar ambushed a Templar force led by Ojeda in a small [[Andalusia]]n village where the Prince had been hiding.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Despite the Assassins being outnumbered and eventually overpowered, both Aguilar and Maria managed to escape the village with the Prince, though they were quickly pursued by Ojeda and a number of his soldiers. The pursuit lasted some time, but eventually Aguilar was cornered and imprisoned by the Templars.<ref name="ACFilm" />

===Escape through Seville===
Following their arrest, the surviving Assassins were transported to [[Seville]], where they were denounced as heretics and sentenced to burn at the stake by Torquemada. In the presence of the king of Aragon and queen of [[Castille]], Aguilar watched as Ojeda lit the pyre beneath Benedicto’s feet, burning him alive. Despite this however, Aguilar was able to escape his bonds and engaged the Templars as they closed in. He eventually managed to also free Maria and together, the two Assassins made their escape through the streets of Seville.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Once more pursued by Ojeda and his soldiers, this time across the rooftops of the city, the Assassins made their way to [[Seville Cathedral]], which was under construction at the time. They managed to eliminate several of their Templar pursuers in the process, before finally making their escape by climbing the cathedral’s scaffolding and performing a [[Leap of Faith]] into the streets below.<ref name="ACFilm" />

===Retrieving the Apple===
On 2 January 1492, at the urging of the [[Italian Assassins|Italian Assassin]] [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] - who also happened to be in Spain at the time - Muhammad XII surrendered his capital, [[Granada]], to Torquemada's forces. <ref name="AC2D">''[[Assassin's Creed II: Discovery]]''</ref> As the Templars entered the city both Aguilar and Maria made their way to the Sultan's palace, where they stood watch as the Sultan reluctantly handed over the Apple in exchange for his son's safety, before they made their move.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Dropping [[Bombs|smoke bombs]] into the room, both Assassins quickly eliminated many of the Templars, before Aguilar captured Torquemada and claimed the Apple. Unfortunately for the Assassin however, Ojeda had managed to apprehend Aguilar’s lover, Maria. Ojeda promised to release his captive once Aguilar returned the Apple to Torquemada; Aguilar reluctantly agreed, but before he could act, he witnessed Maria take her own life with Ojeda's blade to prevent him from betraying the Creed to save her life.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Enraged by her death, Aguilar engaged Ojeda in combat but was gradually overcome by his opponent's sheer strength. It was only after he had been knocked to the ground that Aguilar managed to gain the upper hand, using Maria’s launchable Hidden Blade to attack Ojeda and render him defenseless to Aguilar's strikes. With Ojeda dead, a heavily wounded Aguilar was forced to make his escape through the tunnels beneath the palace as Torquemada opened the locked door of the room to the rest of his men.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Aguilar was eventually surrounded on one of the bridges leading from the city, but once more escaped by performing a Leap of Faith into the river far below.<ref name="ACFilm" />

===Securing the Apple and later years===
Following the events in Granada, Aguilar realized that the Apple would never be safe from the Templars if it remained in his possession. He made his way to Huelva, where he charged [[Christopher Columbus]], an ally of the Assassins in Spain, with protecting it.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Aguilar continued to serve the Assassins, eventually gaining the rank of Master Assassin and later became the new Mentor of the Spanish Assassins.<ref name="Rebellion" /> He died in 1526.<ref name="ACFilm" />

==Legacy==
Aguilar's actions ensured the Apple of Eden would remain hidden from humanity for many centuries, literally having been taken to Columbus' grave. However, in 2016, [[Abstergo Industries]] located the last remaining descendant of Aguilar, Callum Lynch, and had his execution by lethal injection faked so they could have him relive his genetic memories through the [[Animus|Animus 4.3]]. In this way, the location of the Apple was eventually revealed, causing it to temporarily come into the possession of high-ranking Templar [[Alan Rikkin]]; not long after, Callum assassinated Rikkin and reclaimed the artifact.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Aguilar was a committed member of the Assassin Brotherhood, dedicated to preserving free will and fighting against the Knights Templar. A capable fighter, Aguilar could handle himself against multiple enemies in both armed and unarmed combat, wielding a range of weapons including swords and spears with great skill. Additionally, he proved to be proficient at archery, using a [[bow]] and arrow to deadly effect in both long and close range combat.<ref name="ACFilm" />

Like many Assassins, Aguilar was also trained in [[freerunning]], being able to move across the rooftops of Seville quickly and creatively, ducking in and out of buildings and dashing across ropes in an effort to lose his pursuers. Queen Alexandrina Victoria was born in Kensington Palace in London to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn and German-born Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Due to her father and [[George III of the United Kingdom|grandfather]]'s death, Alexandrina was raised by her mother, a childhood she later described as "rather melancholy".

She inherited the throne at age 18 and married her first cousin, Prince [[Albert, Prince Consort|Albert]] of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1840. Their nine children later married into royal and noble families in Europe, earning her the nickname "the grandmother of Europe".

After Albert's death in 1861, Queen Victoria plunged into deep mourning and vanished from the public eye. Her popularity recovered, however, in the later years of her reign.

===Aiding the Assassins===
In 1868, while hosting a ball at [[Buckingham Palace]], Victoria had the pleasure of meeting [[Evie Frye]], who was introduced by [[Mary Anne Disraeli]]. Victoria remarked that the young Frye was behind the theft of [[William Gladstone]]'s carriage, but made no effort to have her arrested since she, like the Disraelis, heartily disliked Gladstone. Instead, much to the Assassin's relief, she merely told the young woman to enjoy the ball, especially the cake which was apparently very good.<ref name="ACS">''[[Assassin's Creed: Syndicate]]''</ref>

The next day, Victoria met with Evie, her brother [[Jacob Frye|Jacob]] and [[Jayadeep Mir|Henry Green]], having been told by Sergeant [[Frederick Abberline]] of how they thwarted a plot against her life by [[Crawford Starrick]]. In recognition of their deeds, she knighted the trio into the [[Order of the Sacred Garter]]. Before departing their company, Victoria reminded Evie that she saved some cake for her.<ref name="ACS"/>

At some point, a royal guard turned up murdered in Victoria's study, in which the Frye twins were called in. Victoria personally inspected her safe, which contained the Scepter of the Dove, which she planned on using to knight several industrialists opposing child labor later in the day. One of the Fryes then left the palace to chase down another lead and later returned to warn the Queen that a bomb was in the palace. However, the bomb turned out to be a hoax and the dead guard was in fact an impostor named [[Henry Raymond]], who merely used spider venom to put himself in a death-like state so he could observe the Queen's combination to the safe so he could steal the Scepter. Though Raymond held young [[Arthur Conan Doyle|Artie]] hostage, the Frye twins were able to kill him, saving Artie and thwarting the caper.<ref name="ACS"/>

Victoria later summoned the Frye twins to request their aid in thwarting a faction of [[Templars]] attempting to regain their power in London through acts of terrorism. Once the plot was thwarted, including an attempt to bomb Parliament, Victoria offered the Fryes her gratitude and expressed her hope that they will continue to assist her in strengthening the British Empire. However, the twin [[Assassins]] politely state that their [[The Creed|Creed]] forbids them from assisting in the expansion of the Empire. Evie suggested that the Queen put an end to her imperialist beliefs. Victoria understood and respected their position. Prompted by [[Salāḥ ad-Dīn|Saladin]]'s recapture of [[Jerusalem]], Richard vowed to go on crusade. He was crowned king in September 1189 and, after remaining in England for only six months, set off for the [[Kingdom|Holy Land]]. During his journey, Richard scored a series of successes, notably conquering Sicily and retaking [[Acre]].<ref name="Encyclopedia">''[[Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia]]''</ref>

In 1191, Richard departed from Acre with his army to move south, and left [[William of Montferrat]] as Regent Lord of Acre, unaware that William was secretly a member of the [[Templars|Templar]] conspiracy who intended to betray him. Fortunately for the oblivious Richard, William was killed by the [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]] soon after Richard had left Acre.<ref name="AC">''[[Assassin's Creed]]''</ref>

Under Richard, the Crusaders eventually reached [[Arsuf]], where they engaged Saladin's army. Here they were approached by Altaïr, the Assassin responsible for killing not only William of Montferrat, but also the leaders of the [[Knights Hospitalier]], [[Garnier de Naplouse]], and of the [[Knights Teutonic]], [[Sibrand]].<ref name="AC"/>

Altaïr then claimed that [[Robert de Sablé]], [[Grand Master]] of the Knights Templar and one of the generals working alongside Richard, intended to betray the king. However, Robert insisted that Altaïr's story was merely a ruse to keep Richard from interfering in the Assassin's mission.<ref name="AC"/>

Unsure on who to believe, Richard left the decision in the hands of God, declaring that Robert and his Templars were to fight Altaïr in a trial by combat. Altaïr proved the victor, and so Richard accepted the Assassin's version of events. Richard and Altaïr then discussed the philosophies of war and peace, with Richard admitting that he was not yet ready for peace with Saladin. As Altaïr left, saying that he needed to confront the faults of his Master, Richard reminded him that [[Rashid ad-Din Sinan|Al Mualim]] was merely [[Humans|human]], just as he was.<ref name="AC"/>

The revelation that his conflict with the [[Saracens]] had been exploited by the Templars eventually led Richard to make peace with Saladin. He would then head back home in 1192.<ref name="Encyclopedia"/>

Richard was a man strong in faith, and relied upon God for crucial decisions. He did, however, seem tolerant towards non-believers, as Altaïr denying the help of God in his victory against Robert did not trouble him.<ref name="AC"/>

Richard believed that mankind could never change. In his mind, the only way for him to bring peace was for his men to crush their enemies, Saladin and the Saracens.<ref name="AC"/>

==Trivia==
*When observing King Richard through [[Eagle Vision]], he appeared to be red, which implied that he was an enemy despite appearing to be friendly or at least neutral towards Altaïr.
*Richard could be attacked, but he would not die whenever such an attack was initiated. In order for Altaïr to do this, one soldier needed to be thrown towards Richard, and upon standing up, the soldier would try to attack Altaïr from inside the [[Animus]]' barrier, but would hit Richard instead. This would force him outside of the barrier, and from there, Altaïr could attack him but not kill him.
*In the Animus 1.28, Richard was portrayed with a French accent, which was likely attributed to him being raised in [[France]].
