==Biography==
===Early life===
Bartolomeo was born in the town of Alviano, and was the son of Francesco d'Alviano and Isabella degli Atti.

Bartolomeo somehow found his way into the [[Assassins|Assassin Order]] and positioned himself in the [[Castello district]] of [[Venice]].<ref name="Assassin's Creed II">''[[Assassin's Creed II]]''</ref>

===Retaking the Castello district===
By 1486, the [[Templars|Templar]] [[Silvio Barbarigo]] had taken control over the Castello district, and had captured most of Bartolomeo's men, including Bartolomeo himself. Luckily for him, [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze|Ezio Auditore]], the son of the late Assassin [[Giovanni Auditore da Firenze|Giovanni Auditore]], came to his rescue and the two fought their way back to Bartolomeo's headquarters.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"/>

After Bartolomeo found his precious sword "Bianca," he asked Ezio to rescue some of his men who had been captured by Silvio's. Ezio successfully rescued each of the mercenaries and, upon returning to Bartolomeo, was instructed by the latter to position some of the men throughout the district, in order to regain the lost territory. Bartolomeo explained that these men would stir up trouble once Ezio launched the signal, forcing Silvio to dispatch most of his guards, and in turn leave himself vulnerable. Ezio killed several guards on the marked locations and positioned the mercenaries there.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"/>

Bartolomeo gave Ezio some fireworks upon his arrival, to be used to signal the attack. Ezio climbed the highest viewpoint and launched the fireworks, after which Bartolomeo and his men fought against [[Dante Moro]] and some other guards. Ezio rushed to Bartolomeo's aid, and Dante fled to [[Arsenal Shipyard|l'Arsenale]]. Bartolomeo and Ezio killed two [[brutes]] and followed Dante to the shipping port, where Ezio almost defeated Dante; though he escaped into l'Arsenale to run towards a docked ship with Silvio. The two of them were assassinated by Ezio before they could set sail on the ship, however. Bartolomeo thanked and congratulated Ezio on liberating the Castello district from Silvio's oppression, and the two parted ways.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"/>

===Acquiring the Apple of Eden===
Two years later, Bartolomeo met with some of the other Assassins, those who had been guiding Ezio Auditore over the past 12 years, to acquire the "[[First Apple|Apple of Eden]]" from [[Rodrigo Borgia]], the [[Grand Master of the Templar Order]]. However, when they reached Rodrigo's location, they found Ezio already fighting Rodrigo and his guards, and thus the Assassins rushed to his aid. After killing all the guards and severely wounding Rodrigo, the group all revealed themselves to be Assassins, which was previously unknown by Ezio. They then inducted Ezio into the order atop a tall tower and all performed a [[Leap of Faith]] into a haystack.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"/>

===Battle against Pope Alexander VI===
In 1496, Bartolomeo joined the Orsini in a battle against the [[House of Borgia|Borgia]], who were attempting to seize Orsini territory.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"/>

Bartolomeo's resources were cut down to three fortresses by the Borgia, but Bartolomeo's fighting spirit kept him going. [[Cesare Borgia]] completely cut off his surprise when he thought victory was near, but Carlo Orsini arrived just in time to support Bartolomeo, even wounding Cesare in the face.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"/>

===Under Ferdinand II and Nicolò Orsini===
In 1503, hired by Ferdinand II of Spain, Bartolomeo was determinant in the victory at the Battle of Garigliano over the French army, which started the Spanish domination over southern Italy. In 1507, together with Nicolò Orsini, Bartolomeo was rehired by the Republic of Venice. The following year, he defeated the Imperial Army of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor in Cadore, at Mauria and Pontebba, conquering Gorizia and Trieste. In the same year, Pordenone also fell, and the Serenissima assigned its seignory to Alviano himself.

===Battle of Agnadello===
In 1509, he fought in the [[Battle of Agnadello]]. He allegedly attacked the enemy without the authorization of the Orsini, then commander-in-chief. He was wounded as a result, but managed to recover and rally his troops. He won the hearts of the citizens of Agnadello, where the [[the Shroud|Shroud of Eden]] was located, and they in turn helped Bartolomeo and his men in getting resources.<ref name="Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy">''[[Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy]]''</ref>

However, he was still captured by the French; Louis XII acquired the Shroud and Bartolomeo remained in jail until 1513. In 1513, after the alliance between France and Venice against the Duchy of Milan, he was freed and later fought under the French commander Louis de la Trémoille. He was defeated at Vicenza by the Spanish viceroy of Naples, Ramón de Cardona.<ref name="Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy"/>

===Later life===
Later, Bartolomeo conquered, and sacked Pordenone, which in the meantime had fallen again to the House of Habsburg. He was subsequently a protagonist of the French victory at Marignano (September 1515), in which he attacked the Swiss mercenary with a corps of only 300 knights. Later, he also managed to conquer Bergamo, but died in October of the same year while besieging Brescia.

Venice welcomed his body home with a grand ceremony, and he was buried in the church of [[Santo Stefano]] in Venice.

*Bartolomeo owned a large sword resembling a Scottish [[wikipedia:claymore|claymore]], which he called "Bianca," the Italian word for "white." He was shown to be very protective of the sword, treating it like his own child.
*It has been stated in an interview that you can acquire his sword by completing a mission for the mercenaries in ''[[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood]]''.

The '''apprentices''' are [[Assassins]] who [[Save Citizen|were saved]] by [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze|Ezio Auditore]] from the rough streets of [[Rome]] during the war against the [[Templars]] and had subsequently devoted themselves to learning the ways of the Assassin's Order, motivated by their lust for revenge against the [[House of Borgia|Borgia]] for corrupting the beautiful city of Rome.

Operating out of the [[Tiber Island]] headquarters, the apprentices were sent on [[Side Missions and Events#Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood|missions]] across [[wikipedia:Europe|Europe]], in order to improve their skills and [[Combat and weapon tactics|combat]] experience beyond their traditional training. However, the apprentices did not always survive these missions. When not on missions assigned by Ezio outside Rome, the apprentices would support the efforts of Ezio and his allies, providing support and reinforcement during Ezio's own missions.

In-game, Ezio has the ability to train up to twelve apprentices at a time, and is able to have at least five support him during his own missions. After recruiting someone for his cause, Ezio sends them to [[Niccolò Machiavelli]] to become an Assassin. On the field, Ezio signals these Assassins by raising his arm and clenching his fist, indicating that they should strike; this signal is followed by an eagle's screech. During the game, players have the opportunity to send the apprentices to different cities across Europe to complete tasks and assassinations. If they finish the mission, the apprentices earn experience points, but if they die, they will be lost forever. The chances of the assassins completing the mission depend on how hard the mission is, what experience the assassins have and how many you send.

Players can also customize the apprentices' [[armor]], [[weapons|weaponry]], and the [[Tailor|colors of their robes]]. Each one of the apprentices also has a different personality. Later on, players can use the experience points they've gained to upgrade their apprentices' fighting and [[Freerunning|freerunning]] abilities. Apprentices can ride [[horses]] like Ezio, and will engage in horse chases if Ezio instructs them to.

==Trivia==
*While all apprentices wear uniforms similar to Ezio's, not all of them have a cape on their left shoulder, and not all of their hoods possess the iconic eagle's beak.
*All of the apprentices' uniforms are similar to the Assassin Guards from [[Masyaf]] in ''[[Assassin's Creed]]''.
*The apprentices are equipped with only one [[hidden blade]], unlike Ezio, who has two. This can be explained through [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]]'s [[Codex]] page, which states that the metals to make more than one hidden blade are rare, and to choose carefully to whom should receive a second blade.
*There are both female and male assassin apprentices, something fans have wanted for some time.
*It is said you can bring a "personal assassin" with you on missions. No further information on this has been given as of yet.
*In the ''Brotherhood'' storyline trailer, another assassin, likely an apprentice, wears the exact same outfit as Ezio, implicating that they are now Master Assassins.
