Borgia towers are large towers set up by the Borgia in Rome, used to spread their influence throughout the city. Ezio Auditore da Firenze has to kill each tower's Captain, and burn the towers down. To escape the collapsing structure, he can perform a Leap of Faith, in the same manner as with view points. Before destroying each tower, Ezio has to assassinate its Borgia Captain, as they control the towers. There are twelve towers in total so far. Each Captain can act differently when they spot him; wherein some might flee, while others choose to fight. If Ezio lets the Borgia Captain escape, he will have to wait a full in-game day for the Captain to re-group with his guards to reattempt killing him. With each tower blown up, the Borgias' influence decreases in that particular district, which also provides its populace the opportunity to start shops and allows Ezio to recruit one more assassin into the order. Crime will decrease, as bandits will start to leave and the number of guards in that area will decrease as well. The map on the pause menu identifies the towers with a small castle icon, unlike the view points, which are marked with an eagle. To enter a Borgia Tower, Ezio will sometimes need to find and access it using a secret entrance.

Once Ezio has destroyed a Borgia Tower, it will function as an Assassins Tower, which has the same use as an Assassins Pigeon Cage
*Borgia towers are surrounded by many crows whereas the View Points are surrounded by a single eagle.
*When you destroy a Borgia tower, you automatically synchronize the View Points. In the case of Battista Borgia's tower (killed in Sequence 3's Memory "Between a Rock and a Hard Place"), there is a Borgia flag on the View Point ledge itself which would be automatically collected when you destroy that particular Borgia tower.

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, botanist, writer, and best friend of Ezio in the Italian Renaissance.

Biography
Early life
Leonardo da Vinci was born illegitimately to Messer Piero da Vinci – an Italian notary – and a peasant woman named Caterina in 1452 and was raised in Tuscany. By age 14, da Vinci was apprenticed to Verrocchio, the owner of the alleged finest workshop in Florence where he collaborated with the great painter on his Baptism of Christ.

Florence
At age 20, Leonardo was titled a master by the Guild of Saint Luke, and opened his first workshop in Florence where he continued to collaborate with his old master. During his time there, he also befriended the Auditore family.

In 1476, Leonardo met Ezio Auditore da Firenze when the latter accompanied his mother to pick up some paintings from Leonardo’s workshop. On the way back to the Palazzo Auditore, Leonardo and Ezio conversed about his work, which sparked the lifelong friendship between the two young men.

After the execution of Giovanni, Federico, and Petruccio Auditore, Leonardo met Ezio once again, greeting him with a brotherly embrace. He was then requested by Ezio to repair the Hidden Blade and was immediately fascinated by its sophisticated and advanced design, despite its old age. After what is apparently several hours of work (as Ezio is shown to have fallen asleep for some time), Leonardo finally finished the repairs to the Hidden Blade. Just before handing the weapon over to Ezio, Leonardo claimed that Ezio's ring finger had to be removed because "the blade is designed to ensure the commitment of whoever wields it." It is shown that he was simply joking however, as the blade had been modified so that the removal of the finger was no longer necessary. Immediately after this, a Florentine guard took Leonardo into the latter's yard for interrogation, throwing him to the ground and kicking him several times in order to extract Ezio's whereabouts. Ezio promptly sneaked up behind the guard and assassinated him with his new weapon, before hiding the body inside the workshop with others that Leonardo used for anatomical research.

Leonardo and Ezio didn't meet again until 1478, when Ezio visited him with another codex page attained from his uncle Mario Auditore. He deciphered the page and, while Ezio practiced the new assassination techniques explained on the page, constructed a second Hidden Blade to be put at his friend's disposal. This was when Ezio inquired about Francesco de' Pazzi, which prompted Leonardo to discreetly tell him that he needed to seek out La Volpe (“the fox”). After this, Leonardo appeared at several instances in which Ezio simply visited him to decipher codex pages.

After Ezio stopped the Pazzi conspiracy, he received another codex page from Lorenzo de' Medici and again visited Leonardo in order to have it deciphered. He was astonished by the new blade design, as it has been developed to allow the wielder to inject poison into their enemies.

Leonardo met Ezio again in the Apennine Mountains after the fall of the Pazzi Conspirators. He was faced with the problem of a broken wagon wheel and asked Ezio to lift the carriage, causing him to notice the contraption in the back. This was the first conversation in which Leonardo mentioned his Flying Machine. Amused by Leonardo’s idea, Ezio offered to drive, and they set off for Romagna. During the trip, the wagon was attacked by the soldiers of Rodrigo Borgia, threatening their lives all the way through the Mountains. At the end of the trail, Leonardo took the reins and left Ezio to deal with the soldiers. They met back up at the docks in Romagna where they were scheduled to set sail for Venice, after Ezio went through an ordeal involving Caterina Sforza.

Venice
Upon arrival in Venice, Leonardo and Ezio were given a tour of the city by a baggage handler named Alvise da Vilandino before being led to his new workshop. He and Ezio parted ways there with a brotherly embrace.

Ezio again consulted Leonardo for his expertise, but this time for something other than decryption. He inquired about Leonardo’s Flying Machine that he learned of on the way to Romagna in order to invade the Palazzo Ducale so that he can rescue Doge Mocenigo from the Templar Carlo Grimaldi. After one test flight, Leonardo deemed the machine useless and flew into a fit of rage, but was then inspired by a piece of burnt paper floating from the fire. He concluded that in order for Ezio to reach his destination, they had to light a dozen fires across the city which would cause the air to rise, therefore lifting the machine.

After being accused of the murder of the Doge, Ezio came to Leonardo asking for a Carnevale mask so that he wouldn't be noticed as the most wanted man in Venice. He also bore another codex page, much to Leonardo's interest, as he discovered it contains plans for a small firearm that could be concealed on Ezio's wrist. After testing the pistol, Leonardo gave Ezio the mask he requested and pointed him in the direction of Sister Teodora and Antonio de Magianis so that he could plot to assassinate the new Doge: the Templar Marco Barbarigo.

Leonardo and Ezio met again briefly outside the workshop, just after Ezio discovered the Templar ship was returning the next day. Leonardo pointed out several key facts that he discovered piecing together the markings on the backs of the codex pages such as the arrival of a 'prophet' on the day the Piece of Eden was brought to the floating city (Venice).

In 1488, Ezio, Mario, and Niccolò Machiavelli visited Leonardo to see if he was able to make sense of the Apple which they had successfully obtained from Rodrigo Borgia. To their dismay, he couldn't learn any more about it than the Assassins and, following its accidental activation, it was decided that it should be taken to Forli to be kept out of Templar hands. Mario also asked Leonardo to come and visit him at the Auditore Family Villa, which he did at least once, in 1499.

Rome
In 1502, Leonardo was forcibly pressed into service to Cesare Borgia, son of Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Templar Order, designing several war machines -- a reconfigured flying machine (in the bomber role), a tank, a naval cannon, and a chariot-mounted repeating cannon -- for Cesare's army, as well as . (It is strongly implied that Leonardo also designed the pistola used to kill Mario Auditore, and with which Cesare fought Ezio at Viana.) He still remained an ally of the Assassins, privately informing Ezio of Cesare's plans, but also turning over the locations of the Templars overseeing the war machines.

He would also agree to reconstruct a second, smaller Hidden Blade that could fit against a standard glove, along with a reinforced glove allowing Ezio to once again climb leap (and punch harder), and a forearm-mounted poison dart launcher, although due to being paid "very little" by the Templars, he would need Ezio to first compensate him for the raw materials, and to avoid Templar scrutiny Leonardo and Ezio would meet at different locations. After the war machines were finally destroyed, he would agree to design a parachute which could be built by sympathetic Roman tailors, though his design (or at least the materrials used) would not survive the landings.

When the Assassins finally secured the Apple of Eden from the Borgias, Ezio and Leonardo met at the Assassins' safehouse on Tiber Island. Leonardo mourned the need to hide the Apple away from the world, but as Leonardo's patron had been arrested and his income still meager, Ezio nevertheless turned over a sum of money to Leonardo, and departed on good terms.

Legacy
He later worked in Bologna and spent his last years in France, at the home awarded him by Francis I. He took his most famous painting, the Mona Lisa, with him when he retired to France in 1513. He died May 2, 1519. The exact cause of his death is unknown, but could presumably have been a blood infection, due to him suffering from Gout.

Leonardo is renowned primarily as a painter. Two of his works, the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, are the most famous, most reproduced and most parodied portrait and religious painting of all time, AC2their fame approached only by Michelangelo's Creation of Adam. Leonardo's drawing of the Vitruvian Man is also regarded as a cultural icon.
Perhaps fifteen of his paintings survive, the small number due to his constant, and frequently disastrous, experimentation with new techniques and his chronic procrastination. Nevertheless, these few works, together with his notebooks, which contain drawings, scientific diagrams and his thoughts on the nature of painting, are an invaluable contribution to later generations of artists, only rivalled by that of his contemporary, Michelangelo.
Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity. He conceptualised a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, the double hull and outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or even feasible during his lifetime, but some of his smaller inventions, such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire, entered the world of manufacturing unheralded. As a scientist, he greatly advanced the state of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, civil engineering, optics and hydrodynamics.

Characteristics and personality
His portrayal in Assassin's Creed II depicts Leonardo da Vinci as a cheerful and optimistic man. Ezio is his best friend, and as such, he treats him like a brother and has taken great risks to protect him, even though he says later in the game that courage is not his strong suit.

Despite being an accomplished and respected artist, as well as deeply curious about the world's wonders, Leonardo da Vinci was also a chronic procrastinator. Most of his commissioned works took years longer than anticipated, and many were never even finished. It is possible that this was because he did not feel his work to be important enough to devote his life to, as when he meets Ezio, he complains that it lacks purpose and he wishes to do something which has more impact on the world, such as architecture. Regardless, when Leonardo is intrigued by something, he becomes insatiably curious and often impossible to communicate with, as demonstrated when Ezio first brings him Altaïr's codex pages for decryption.

Trivia
thumb|250px|Leonardo da Vinci - Genius Inventor
*All of Leonardo's modifications on previously existing Assassin gear are based on designs detailed in Altaïr's Codex. It is possibly from these that Leonardo also designed some of his other inventions.
*Only Leonardo and Giovanni Auditore can decipher and translate Altaïr's Codex.
*In Assassin's Creed II, like other main characters, Leonardo's appearance does not change throughout the 23 years he is shown in the game, from his first encounter to the decoding of the Codex in the villa in 1499.
*The cut-scene when Ezio visits Leonardo is the same each time (even after Leonardo moves to Venice), except when the Codex pages provide new modifications to Ezio's equipment.
* Interestingly, in author Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code, it is suggested that Leonardo da Vinci was the Grand Master of a secret society known as The Priory of Sion, an organization that was allegedly connected with the Knights Templar.
*Historically, Leonardo would later become a close friend and military engineer for Cesare Borgia, son of Rodrigo Borgia.
*When Ezio accidentally activates the Piece of Eden, images similar to Leonardo's later designs for the tank can be briefly glimpsed. This experience may have provided him with the ideas for his later inventions.
*Also, when the Apple is activated, Ezio and Leonardo are able to stand, although blinded by the light. Mario and Machiavelli are crippled by the noise and unable to stand. Perhaps Leonardo is also a descendant of Those That Came Before.
*Ezio uses a wheel-lock firearm, based on a design found in the Codex pages, which historically wasn't developed until just after the time-frame of the game. Historically, Leonardo designed some of the first wheel-lock firearms.
*Leonardo had no surname; "da Vinci" simply means "of Vinci," identifying his homeland.
*At the time of Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, Leonardo had been under Cesare Borgia's patronage from 1502 to 1503. Comments made by designers in an interview at E3 suggest that Leonardo may be a spy for the Assassins working undercover for them as Cesare's military engineer, and his character may be more developed than in Assassin's Creed II.
*A map of the city of Imola that Leonardo drew for Cesare Borgia appears frequently in Assassin's Creed II; on a wall in the Hideout, in Leonardo's workshop, and as the Codex map that Caterina gives to Ezio.
*8 of the 30 collectable Paintings that are placed in the Villa Auditore were painted by da Vinci.

*Many gamers regret not hugging Leonardo in Venice during the quicktime event.
*During a special coversation after you complete Sequence 9 in Assassins Creed Brotherhood and you talk to Leonardo on a bench. It is reveiled Leonardo is painting the Mona Lisa and that Ezio is unaware of Da Vinci's apparent homosexuality.
Micheletto was one of Cesare Borgia's three generals and his personal assassin. Along with the other generals, he accompanied Cesare during the Siege of Monteriggioni. After the battle was won, Micheletto returned to Rome with Cesare and the other generals.

He would later be seen garroting Francesco Troche on Cesare's order, then conspiring to assassinate Lucrezia Borgia 's lover Pietro, an actor, by posing as another actor (playing the part of the Roman soldierr who speared Jesus) and killing Pietro (playing a crucified Jesus) in a feigned accident at a Passion play at the Colosseum, with several Borgia men posing as ancient Roman troops.

However, Ezio Auditore da Firenze overheard the conspiracy and therefore tailed Micheletto to the play, while having his Assassins recruits slay the would-be accomplices for their disguises. After Ezio and his Assassin recruits neutralized several gunmen stationed atop the Colosseum's upper levels. they assumed the accomplices' disguises and proceeded into the play, whereupon he broke off and took down Micheletto.

Though prevented from stabbing Pietro to death, Micheletto revealed that he had been "doubly sure" to kill Pietro, having also poisoned him with cantarella. Possibly due to the urgency of rescuing Pietro, Ezio spared Micheletto's life. Notably, he would be the only story assassination target spared by Ezio in Brotherhood. Micheletto is not seen again, but Cesare believed that Micheletto was leading Cesare's remaining army into Rome to back his attempts to return to power.

According to the description in his Portrait (in the Tiber Island Hideout), he fled Rome after Cesare's downfall, but was arrested by Pope Julius II's order, and his fate thereafter is unknown.
Rodrigo Borgia (1 January 1431 – 18 August 1503), born Roderic Llançol, later Roderic de Borja i Borja, was the leader of the Templars during the Renaissance in Italy. He was elected Pope from 1492 to 1503 as Alexander VI. His enemies called him "The Spaniard" (due to his Spanish origins) while his Templar followers called him "Maestro" ("Master" in Italian and "teacher" in Spanish). He was one of the most controversial of the Renaissance popes, and his surname (Italicized as Borgia) became a byword for the debased standards of the papacy of that era. He is the main antagonist of Assassin's Creed II and returns in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, though not as the main antagonist.

Biography
The Medici were the ruling family in Florence. But a conspiracy was being plotted in a attempt to overthrow the powerful Lorenzo de' Medici, and Rodrigo Borgia was at the center of it. One night in 1476, Borgia was on his way to leave Florence with few of his men in the dark streets of the city. Suddenly, Giovanni Auditore, an Assassin, intercepted him. Borgia fled immediately as the Assassin battled his men. Hidden behind a corner, he saw Giovanni capture one of his men. The prisoner revealed the plotted assassination of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan and a powerful ally of Lorenzo de' Medici, to Giovanni. Giovanni quickly went to stop the attempt, but arrived too late. Rodrigo and his accomplices' plan had succeeded and Borgia began planning the next move.

Deducing the origin of the Duke of Milan's murderers by looting a Ducat from one of them, Giovanni headed to Venice. There, he intercepted a message from Marco and Silvio Barbarigo to their master, Rodrigo. After having decoded the letter by Uberto Alberti and Father Maffei, Giovanni carried the copied message to Rome, in order to discover who is behind the plots. Once arrived in the city, he gave the message to a man. By tailing this one, it appears that the letter travels in various hands before arriving in its final destination: Rodrigo's. Rodrigo headed next to see Pope Sixtus IV to obtain a military support in order to conquer Florence.

The night before the trial of the Auditore family, Rodrigo was at Uberto's house. Ezio Auditore, one of the sons of Giovanni Auditore, came by to give Uberto his father's letters which would prove him not guilty. Ezio noticed a hooded man (Rodrigo) behind Uberto, but paid no further notice to him. The following morning, Rodrigo attended the judgment of Giovanni and two of his sons. Years later, he would state that Ezio's brothers did not need to die, but he had them killed anyway to make a point to the assassins and to Ezio. Two years later, Rodrigo went to a meeting with the Pazzi family in San Gimignano and with the Templars in a catacomb under the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. There he reminded them to beware the assassins, and stated that the next day would be "a new dawn for Florence".

After Ezio thwarted the Templars in Florence, Rodrigo was to meet with the remaining conspirators in Tuscany. The Pazzi were going to ask for asylum with Rodrigo in either Venice or Rome. But before the meeting could even commence, most of the conspirators were killed by Ezio, one by one. Only Jacopo de' Pazzi actually made it to the meeting alive. There Jacopo claimed that the blame rested with his nephew, Francesco, for his impatience and with Emilio Barbarigo for supplying the Pazzi troops with sub-standard weaponry. Enraged by Jacopo's sniveling excuses, Rodrigo lectured his subordinate on his failure, then stabbed him, aided by an all-too-eager Barbarigo. Ignoring Jacopo's pleas for mercy, Rodrigo stabbed him in the neck, then called out Ezio who had tailed Jacopo to the meeting. Sarcastically apologizing for killing Ezio's target for him, Rodrigo mocked Ezio; saying that he had been doing "this" for far longer than the novice Assassin. He ordered his men to kill Ezio and left without bothering to make sure the deed was done. He might have guessed that Ezio would escape, and chose not to stick around for it.

Borgia was later found in Venice, planning with Carlo Grimaldi and the Barbarigos to murder the current Doge, Giovanni Mocenigo, so that one of them can replace him and take control of Venice. He chastised the Barbarigos for making their own plans and arguing over who would be the new Doge after they took Venice. He appointed Marco Barbarigo as the next Doge, and then left them to carry out his plans. While Ezio was hunting the Barbarigo's in Venice, Rodrigo was tracking the location of the Piece of Eden which Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad once took from the Templars. He sent ships to Cyprus in order to claim it from the Archives where Altaïr sealed it away before his death. He appeared in Venice to lay claim to the Piece of Eden; but then Ezio, disguised as the carrier of the artifact, attempted to kill him. Rodrigo was prepared for the attack, and told his men to stand down so that he could deal with Ezio personally (if the player missed the timing to kill them). The two began an intense battle, with Ezio emerging as the victor. Realizing he could not defeat Ezio alone, Borgia called in a supply of guards to overwhelm Ezio. Suddenly, many of Ezio's allies appeared, revealing themselves to be assassins. They held off the guards to allow Ezio to re-challenge Borgia, who then escaped from them before Ezio could kill him.

Rodrigo found out that Caterina Sforza's late husband had made a map of where all the codex pages were, so he hired the Orsi Brothers to retrieve it. The Orsi's found out that Caterina had the Apple, so they took it, planning to present it to Rodrigo for an extra pay off. Unfortunately for him, Ezio managed to kill both of the Orsi brothers, though the Apple eventually came into the hands of Girolamo Savonarola, an arch-enemy of Rodrigo.

With the Apple, Savonarola took control over Florence after Lorenzo's death. Rodrigo repeatedly kept sending his men to Florence in the hopes of acquiring the Apple.

In the following years, Rodrigo fooled the Spanish Inquisitor General Tomas Torquemada into capturing and killing Assassins in Spain. Tomas, who thought Rodrigo was as much as a believer of God as he was, blindly followed his orders. He also found out about Christoffa Corombo's plans to sail west. Rodrigo knew of the presence of the Americas and the treasures that lay there, and did not want anybody to find it before he would. Therefore he arranged a meeting with Christoffa in Venice. Christoffa's friend Luis Santangel, in secret an Assassin, suspected a trap and called for the aid of Ezio. Ezio successfully rescued Christoffa, and eventually Christoffa did set sail west.

Rodrigo offered his daughter Lucrezia Borgia to Caterina Sforza's son Ottaviano Riario. Rodrigo figured that with a son-in-law like Ottaviano, he could control the regions of Forlì and Imola. Caterina declined the offer, as she knew of his plans and that Lucrezia 'never stayed married for long'. This enraged Rodrigo, and his son Cesare Borgia began an assault on Forlì.

Borgia was elected Pope in 1492 and established his power in Rome. Borgia's true intent however, was just to get in the Vault that lays under the Vatican, where, he believed, God rested.

In 1499, he was chased by Ezio, who tried to assassinate him. Ezio snuck into the Vatican and seemingly assassinated Borgia without being seen inside the Sistine Chapel. After Ezio finished speaking with Borgia he left only to see him rise from the ground and use his Piece of Eden, the Papal Staff, to strike down Ezio and everyone else in the room. However, he was surprised to see that Ezio was able to resist the power of his staff, Ezio brought out his own Piece of Eden: The Apple that Altaïr took from Al Mualim. Ezio then summoned four clones of himself to assist him in his battle against Borgia, eventually defeating him. But Borgia tripped Ezio with the Staff, and snatched the Apple from his hands, and combined it with the Staff to open up the door to The Vault, which had been underneath Rome the whole time. Ezio tried to stop him, but he was lifted into the air by Borgia, unable to resist two combined Pieces of Eden.

Borgia stabbed Ezio with a dagger and left him to die on the floor of the Sistine Chapel before escaping into the Vault. Though injured, Ezio eventually made his way to the Vault, with Borgia furiously pounding the door

to the inner chambers. Ezio dropped down into the pit where Borgia was, and challenged him to one last fist fight, with no more weapons, no more plots, and no more decoys. Borgia accepted and the two had one last battle. During the battle, Borgia stated that he never believed in the Bible or in God, and only became Pope to get the Staff and access to the Vault, wanting to unify Italy under the Templar's rule. Ezio defeated Borgia, holding the Pope at blade-point and telling him he was not the Prophet: he never had been.

Broken by this revelation and accepting defeat, Borgia told Ezio to kill him and put an end to it. However, Ezio refused, saying that killing Borgia would not bring back his family. Besides, the knowledge that he was not the Prophet, as he had believed, was an even sorer blow than anything else that Ezio could have thought of. When his son Cesare learned of this he led a Siege on Monteriggioni, without Rodrigo's approval, to reaquire the Apple of Eden and kill the last of the Assassins.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ezio goes to Castel Sant'Angel to assassinate Rodrigo and Cesare, however the former is not there and the latter leaves before Ezio can kill him. Later on, at Juan Borgia's pagan party, Rodrigo speaks to Cesare and checks him when he speaks out. In DNA Sequence 8: The Borgia, Rodrigo has grown displeased with Cesare's ambition and entitlement to the point of seizing the castle's supply of cantarella and poisoning an apple for Cesare to unwittingly eat. However, Lucrezia Borgia, Cesare's sister and Rodrigo's daughter, finds out about the poison and tips Cesare off before he can swallow the chunk he is chewing. He spits it out, then shoves the remaining apple down Rodrigo's throat. Rodrigo dies before Ezio arrives, but Ezio closes his eyes and says "Requiescat in Pace." Cesare escapes with a small bit of poison in him, which is enough to make him ill, but not to kill him.

"Final Words"
(First assassination attempt by Ezio)

Ezio: I thought...I thought I was beyond this. But I'm not. I've waited too long, lost too much... Requiescat in pace (Rest in peace), you bastard!

Rodrigo: I don't think so!

(Second "death scene" with Rodrigo)

Rodrigo: You can't!! You can't!! It's MY destiny!! MINE!!! I am the prophet!!

Ezio: You never were.

Rodrigo: Get it over with then...

Ezio: ...No. Killing you won't bring my family back... I'm done. Nulla è reale, tutto è lecito. Requiescat in pace. (Nothing is true, everything is permitted. Rest in peace.)

Trivia
*As Ezio enters the Sistine Chapel to assassinate Borgia, he is proclaiming the Nicene Creed in Latin to the congregation. It is ironic that he is assassinated as he proclaims this, as the Nicene Creed confesses the wholeness of the Christian doctrine, in which Borgia later states in the final battle that he does not believe.
* Although Ezio did not kill Borgia, he is listed as dead in the Animus' Conspirator Web after the player completes the game and re-enters the Animus. This may be due to Ezio simply listing off Rodrigo as a target.
* Throughout the entire game, Rodrigo is always wearing something that covers his head, where not once is he without a hat or a hood. He does appear without head coverings in Assassin's Creed: Lineage, however.
* In a scene in Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, he can be seen with an apple, which is perhaps a hint at the apple he later attempts to gain, as well as the poisoned apple which leads to his death in Brotherhood.
* Rodrigo's cloak from before he becomes Pope resembles Al Mualim's robe from Assassin's Creed. Rodrigo also shares a trait with Al Mualim, as they both keep their hoods up throughout most of their respective games.
* Rodrigo is the only assassination target Ezio has had to fight repeatedly in Assassin's Creed iI, as well as one of only two that he spared (the other being Tomas Torquemada). He is also the most formidable fighter in Assassin's Creed II.
* It is possible to kill Rodrigo while in the Sistine Chapel if you poison him. After this you can wield the Staff of Eden, although you cannot use any of its powers.
* Rodrigo's fate differs in the novel, Assassin's Creed: Renaissance to that shown in the game. In the game, after Ezio defeats and spares him, Borgia is left alone to come to terms with his misery as Ezio enters the Vault. He is not seen again, and it is presumed that he still lives. In the novel, however, when Ezio emerges from the Vault, Borgia commits suicide with poison. His last act is to ask Ezio what he saw in the Vault, to which Ezio replies "Nothing. No one," leading Borgia to die believing everything he had done in life was for nothing. However, this should not be considered canon due to the fact that Rodrigo appears alive in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and dies under different circumstances.
* In Rodrigo's assassination target video, there is a scene with Rodrigo in his Papal robes standing next to his fellow Templars, who are seated at a table. This is impossible, because by the time Rodrigo became Pope, Ezio had killed all the other Templars in the game. The Pazzi, the Barbarigos and Carlo Grimaldi, for example, are shown at the table.
* Rodrigo had numerous children: Cesare, Lucrezia, Giovanni, and Gioffre from his mistress Vannozza dei Cattanei, a daughter, Laura, from his mistress Giulia Farnese, and an unknown number of children from other mistresses.
* He was the first pope to be elected from a conclave in the Sistine Chapel.
* Sometimes, during the fight with Rodrigo, he can be seen wielding a spear instead of the Staff.
* Rodrigo told Ezio during their fight in Venice that he didn't have to kill Ezio's brothers, he did it only to prove a point.
* He is an ancestor of virtually all royal families in Europe through his children Lucrezia and Juan.
* It is mentioned in Brotherhood that Rodrigo had crafted all his children, even Lucrezia, into deadly weapons, showing his manipulative personalty.
* Rodrigo's relationship with his son, Cesare, is somewhat strange as Cesare was far too power-hungry for Rodrigo to tolerate and Rodrigo sometimes disagreed with his son's actions. Once he made his son angry enough to actually attack him and shout "If I want to take I take, if I want you to die you die"!
* From the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Launch trailer many fans have rumored that Cesare might kill Rodrigo. This rumor was then confirmed when, in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Cesare kills Rodrigo with a poisoned apple (which in turn was meant to be used to kill Cesare)

Cesare Borgia (13 September 1475 - 12 March 1507) was the son of Rodrigo Borgia and an arch-nemesis of Ezio Auditore. Like his father, he was a member of the Templar Order. Eventually, he became the commander of the Papal army and a leader in the Templar Order.
Biography
Early life
Cesare Borgia was born in Rome in 1475, to Rodrigo Borgia, the Grand Master of the Templar Order, and his long-term mistress Vannozza dei Cattanei. He was one of Lucrezia Borgia's brothers.

Becoming a Templar leader
In 1496, when his father waged war with the Orsini Family to seize their territory, Cesare joined the battle. Among the enemy's ranks was Bartolomeo d'Alviano, in secret an Assassin. When Bartolomeo's resources were down to three fortresses, Cesare cut off his supplies. When it looked like victory was near, Carlo Orsini arrived with his army and joined Bartolomeo, even wounding Cesare in the face.

His father placed the fate of the Templars in his brother Giovanni's hands. Cesare, angry at being spurned by his father and lusting for power, killed his own brother in 1497.
Siege of Monteriggioni
In 1499, Cesare, who had been brought up in the Templar ways, lead an assault on Monteriggioni, headquarters of the Assassins in Italy in order to eliminate the Master Assassin Ezio Auditore. Besieging the city, Cesare's forces overwhelmed the city's defenders and handed to him Mario Auditore and Caterina Sforza. Standing at the city gates, the Apple of Eden in his hand, Cesare 'invited' Ezio to come and face him in Rome with a shot of his firearm that killed Mario. Ezio was then shot down and wounded by a team of arquebusiers and the battle was won. With Monteriggioni in ruins, Cesare returned to Rome with his prize.
War in Rome
By 1500, Cesare had Rome under his iron fist, as he was commander of the Papal army, though it appeared that he and his father sometimes disagreed on his choices. He used Borgia towers to keep control over the five districts of Rome. In 1502, Leonardo da Vinci was forced into service for the Borgia against his will. Cesare made Leonardo build the armored tank and another flying machine, not to mention "other monstrosities besides", but all of Leonardo's creations were stolen and destroyed by Ezio Auditore, in secret at Leonardo's own behest. In 1503, Cesare and his father Rodrigo argued over the former's insatiable lust for power. Rodrigo commented that he had given Cesare all he had, and still his son wasn't satisfied. Cesare demanded that his father give him the Apple of Eden, but Rodrigo refused. Then Lucrezia barged in, crying out to her brother that their father tried to poison him with the bowl of apples he'd left out. An angry Cesare responded by charging Rodrigo and shoving the apple he'd been eating into his mouth. The poison did its work and Rodrigo died within seconds. Cesare then demanded the Apple of Eden's whereabouts from Lucrezia, who confessed under much pressure. Unfortunately, Ezio beat Cesare to the punch, having witnessed the scene from the window.
Siege of Viana and death
In 1507, Cesare travelled to Viana, Spain to try and commandeer the King of Navarre's (Juan III), vast army, only to die during the siege against the castle, and he would be buried there. In a recent trailer for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Cesare faces off against Ezio Auditore on the rampart's of the castle wall. For a brief moment the two stare each other down until a cannonball crashes into the wall and Ezio springs into action, emerging from the smoke and dirt, rushing at Cesare with his hidden blade equipped. Cesare quickly drops his sword and attempts to grab Ezio's arm as the trailer fades out.

It has since been revealed that this scene does not happen in the actual game but that when Ezio found Cesare and charged, Cesare held him back just long enough to dodge Ezio's left Hidden Blade before turning to flee. Ezio's pursuit would be delayed by a cannonball's impact that stunned him (albeit incapacitating any surviving guards in the area), allowing Cesare to escape for a time.

Ezio eventually caught up with Cesare at the walls of Viana's castle and fought him, Cesare wielding his sword and a pistola -- possibly the same with which he had killed Mario Auditore -- and reinforced periodically by troops. Nevertheless Ezio defeated him, eventually pinning him to the ground. When Cesare vowed not to die at the hands of man, Ezio declared that he would leave Cesare "in the hands of Fate" and threw him off of the castle wall to his presumable death (the corpse is not seen post-mortem).

Trivia
*Historically, it is said that Niccolò Machiavelli greatly admired Cesare. However, in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Machiavelli seeks to eliminate Cesare and his family members alongside Ezio Auditore.
*Cesare's comments about bloodshed and the need for cleansing may highlight the origin of the name Abstergo being adopted by the Templars, which is Latin for "I cleanse".
*Cesare's relationship with his father is somewhat strange. At times, Rodrigo strongly disagrees with his son's actions and his taste for power, while Cesare can become very agressive towards Rodrigo, once going as far as shouting "If I want to live, I live. If I want to take, I take! If I want you to die, you die!"
*Cesare's relationship with his sister, Lucrezia, is very strange. When Ezio has to save Caterina from the Castel Sant'Angelo, he encounters them kissing each other, as if they were lovers.
