It's another blade design...for delivering poison!
The Poison Blade is one of the several expansions of the Hidden Blade invented by Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad while using the Apple of Eden, later crafted by Leonardo da Vinci for use by Ezio Auditore da Firenze , essentially being a thin, hollow needle that can be filled with poison. The blade can be used to inconspicuously inject the target with said poison, causing the target to attack anyone a several foot radius with whatever weapon they have on hand, and then suddenly die, all within a time frame of under thirty seconds. Ezio can replenish his supply of poison by buying poison vials from Doctors.

This is one of the best stealth weapons the player will acquire within the entire game, as it allows Ezio to silently assassinate someone without attracting any attention to himself. Besides dealing a direct kill to the intended assassination target, the Poison Blade can also be used as a cover for one, as anyone within the immediate area will stop to watch the poisoned victim, creating a stealth assassination opportunity if one of the spectators happens to be a target, since all other eyes will be on the poisoned victim. Additionally, one can poison someone as a distraction to cover an approach to a restricted area, since you can slip by while the guards watch the person you just previously poisoned. The Poison Blade is especially useful when playing Assassination Contract, as in many cases targets will either be followed by guards or be in a guarded area.

Poison vials can be bought from a Doctor at 175 florins each and up to five can be carried with the small poison vial provided, but this can be upgraded to ten or fifteen with the medium and large poison vials, purchasable from any Tailor .

Ways to use the Poison Blade efficiently:
The Poison Blade is the most discrete weapon in the game, and as such, has multiple uses that all pertain to stealth assassinations:
# Silent Kill - Guards will not notice the poisoning process unless it is directly next to them and in their line of sight; sometimes they will not notice even then!
#Attention - Distraction is an important tool to use during missions. If you are looking for a silent approach that smoke bombs cannot provide and cannot find thieves, mercenaries, or courtesans within the immediate area, the Poison Blade can be used as an effective substitute. Poisoning anyone within ten meters of a guard's position will cause him, as well as all other guards near him, to move away from their position to where the poisoned victim is standing. Once the victim has drawn their attention, the player has can either assassinate the guards and give away their position, or silently head on to their objective. It is important to leave the area before the poisoned victim has died, as the guards with start an investigation afterward and become suspicious of the player if they are in the guards' line of sight.
#Clean Kill - When performing an Assassination Contract, a single target may have at least one guard following close behind them. One can poison the guard and move away into hiding, while the aforementioned guard may inadvertently kill the target for you, eliminating the need to ever come out of hiding after the first poisoning.

Dante Moro (1460-1486) was a Templar and personal bodyguard of Marco Barbarigo. He was previously the captain of the city guard and an heir to one of the most prestigious families in Venice.

Marco desired Dante's wife Carlotta, so he hired a hit on Dante. Dante was stabbed 3 times in the body and once in the head. While he miraculously survived, Dante was left with severe brain damage and the mind of a child. Marco then tricked Dante into annulling the marriage and becoming Marco's personal bodyguard.

Ezio first encounters him in Venice where Marco, Silvio Barbarigo and Carlo Grimaldi plotted to kill the Doge. They next met in the carnivale with Silvio, where he fought Ezio hand to hand to win a golden mask. He and Silvio cheated to win the mask and prevent Ezio from entering Marco's private party. Dante arrived at the party and tried to look for Ezio, but failed, resulting in Marco's death. Dante subsequently fled to L'Arsenale with Silvio. Dante was killed while boarding a ship. Dante revealed that they were headed for Cyprus, but died before he could say anything else. After the assassination of Dante Moro, Ezio recovers a letter intended for Dante from his ex-wife Carlotta. It read:
My love,
I wonder if ever the day will come when these words might make sense to you once more. I am sorry for what I've done - for what you and I have both become. Though we could not be together , just knowing you were near was enough. And now, with Marco dead, I may yet find a way for us to be joined again.

But do you even remember me? Or were the wounds too grave? Do my words stir- if not your memory, then your heart? It doesn't matter what they say- I know you're still in there, somewhere.

Trivia
*Dante wields an axe, much like the ones that Brutes carry and fights like one of them.
*Despite Antonio telling you not to do so, the player will not fail the mission if they kill Dante after stealing the mask from him, but he will still appear at the party later.
*If confronted by Dante after the player steals the mask, the player cannot kill him, nor disarm him (unless you use a Two-Handed weapon's Special Attack), even if his health bar is all the way down. This is also the case after the party where Marco is killed, him being located on a bridge nearby. The only way to defeat him is to make him fall in the water. Even if the player does so, in the next missions he will be alive.
*In the novel, Ezio shoots Dante in the face with the Hidden Gun on the deck of the Templar ship. The text of Carlotta's letter to Dante is reproduced in it, as well.
*Dante differs from the other assassination targets in the game, as he is not deliberately a Templar. Simple-minded, Dante would not be in control of his actions and therefore can not be held accountable for them. Assassinating him would therefore be breaking the first tenet of the Creed, but Ezio is not bound by the tenets until he is inducted into the order.
*Dante is the only assassination target not to have a portrait in Ezio's room.

71.183.180.114: /* Synchronization in Assassin's Creed II */

Synchronization is Assassin's Creed's series' equivalent of a health meter. Since the events of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze experienced by Desmond in the Animus have already taken place in the past, Synchronization is a measure of how synchronized, or close to, Desmond's actions in the Animus are with the actual events in the past. If all Synchronization is lost, the simulation restarts from an earlier point.

Synchronization itself can be taken as how accurate Desmond's actions are compared to the original memories. The loss of Synchronization would therefore presumably be a sign that Desmond's (or more accurately, the player's) actions are not accurate to the past. Losing Synch by killing civilians and falling from heights would mean that Altaïr or Ezio would not have performed those actions. Furthermore, additional memories, such as rescuing civilians and collecting Flags for Altaïr, and opening Chests and collecting Feathers for Ezio, would mean that Altaïr and Ezio actually performed these actions. That they are optional is an indication that they aren't essential to the recreation of the events in the Animus.

The Synch meter
[[File:Synchronization Bar 2.png|thumb|300px|This meter from the first game has nine bars, its capacity.
Note the DNA effect, symbolizing that the meter is full.]]

Synchronization is measured by a bar in the top left corner of the HUD. It displays Desmond's current level of synchronization with his ancestor.

The Synch meter can be turned off in the Options menu, as well as all other HUD elements.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed
If Synchronization is critically low, the screen will begin to flash blue and red to warn the player as the current memory begins to become unstable. If all Synchronization is lost, then the simulation will restart from an earlier point.

Synchronization can be lost for several reasons:
*Killing a civilian, breaking the First Tenet of the Creed.
*Taking damage in battle.
*Drowning, resulting in immediate desynchronization.
*Falling from a great height. The higher the height, the more synchronization will be lost.

At the beginning of Assassin's Creed, Desmond's very first use of the Animus causes almost immediate loss of Synchronization, because his subconscious couldn't handle the stress and trauma of the memory he was in.

Any Synchronization lost will recover over time.

Achievement
On the Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed, you can unlock the Absolute Symbiosis achievement by obtaining all twenty bars of Synchronization.

Synch Meter Capacity
The capacity of the Synchronization meter is not static. It varies from 4 to 20. Synchronization capacity is determined by two components- base Synchronization (up to 13) and additional Synchronization (up to 7).

Base Synchronization
Altaïr's Base Synchronization is determined by his rank in the Assassins' Order. At the beginning of the game when he is a Master Assassin , his base Synchronization is 13. Once he is demoted to Novice, it falls to 4.

A full table:

12
10
13

Additional Synchronization
Additional Synchronization is Synchronization that the player earns by completing additional memories, such as saving citizens and Synchronizing on View Points. Once the player completes fifteen of these additional memories, the words "DNA Synchronization Augmented" will be displayed on the screen, and there will be another bar available on the Synch meter.

Up to seven bars of additional Synchronization can be obtained.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed II
The Synchronization bar in the first Assassin's Creed game has been replaced by a health bar, while synchronization itself has become a status which is increased by completing missions, recovering objects (Codex Pages, feathers, statues, etc.), as well as unlocking Altaïr's Armor. Maximum health is increased by buying and equipping armor, and deciphering Codex Pages. Lost health can be restored by visiting a doctor and by using medicine. Maximum health can be achieved when wearing Altaïr's Armor (or a full Missaglias set) and having all 30 Codex Pages deciphered.

Desynchronization can still happen due to death, killing 3 or more civilians by weapons or poison (the injection counts as the "kill"), staying in an unavailable area for too long, failing mission objectives, etc. When this happens, all health is restored and the player is restored to the last checkpoint if they were in a mission at the time of Desynchronization, or on the ground closest to where they died if they are not.
A nobleman and banker working for the Medici family, Giovanni's true nature as an Assassin was known only to a few. Raised and trained along with his brother Mario from birth to be an Assassin, Giovanni had been aware of the Templar Order for almost all of his life.
The husband of Maria Auditore, and father to Federico, Ezio, Claudia and Petruccio, Giovanni sought to induct his children into the Order, but had only revealed his allegiance to his wife by the time of his death; despite this however, he had already begun to train his eldest son in the Assassin ways, albeit secretively.
From an early age, both Giovanni and his brother were taught to be Assassins, although Giovanni was also tutored in banking and other subjects as well.
With time, Giovanni left the family Villa and joined Ilario in Florence, where he was serving as Gonfaloniere to Cosimo de' Medici. As such, Giovanni joined the Medici banking family and adopted the title of da Firenze. Sometime later, he saved a young Lorenzo de' Medici from drowning in the Arno river, ensuring the continued friendship of the Medici and Auditore family. In 1452, Giovanni met and married Maria de' Mozzi, whom he revealed himself to be an Assassin to. After four years, their first son &ndash; Federico &ndash; was born, followed by Ezio in 1459, Claudia in 1461, and Petruccio in 1463.

At some point during this time, he also revealed to Lorenzo, his patron, his true nature as an assassin, and undertook several missions for him behind the back of his own children. In 1476, Giovanni Auditore tracked down Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Knights Templar, in a Florentine alleyway; although he managed to eliminate two of his bodyguards, and incapacitate the third, Borgia himself escaped. The assassin handed the third guard over to the Uberto Alberti, the Gonfaloniere, for questioning.

In pursuit of Rodrigo Borgia
Through torture, the guard revealed that Galeazzo Maria Sforza, the Duke of Milan was to be assassinated by the Templars, and Giovanni was quickly sent to prevent this. Though he arrived too late to save the Duke, Giovanni was able to eliminate some of his murderers whilst the Duke’s bodyguards killed the rest. With all the assassins dead, Giovanni searched the corpse of Giovanni Andrea Lampugnani, and found a pouch of coins stamped with the seal of Venice .

Arriving in Venice, Giovanni infiltrated the Basilica di San Marco, and eavesdropped on a group of men conversing in a nearby room. The men then dispatched a courier, with a message for their master in Rome. Giovanni chose to pursue the courier, before finally confronting him. After a lengthy battle, he overpowered and pinned down the courier, his hidden blade to the man’s throat. Refusing to answer his questions, the courier impaled himself on the blade, leaving Giovanni frustrated, albeit with a letter sealed with the crest of the House of Barbarigo. Returning to Florence, Giovanni presented the letter to Lorenzo de' Medici, although it was encoded.

That night, Giovanni was summoned to meet with Lorenzo and Alberti. Before leaving, Maria reminded her husband that their second eldest son, Ezio, who was watching them from behind a nearby haystack, was becoming suspicious of his banker father having to leave the Palazzo at night so often; Giovanni promised that he would speak with him soon, and then left. Arriving at the meeting, Alberti falsely claimed that Father Antonio Maffei had been unable to decrypt the letter, and that as such, the only course of action was for Giovanni to deliver the letter himself. Giovanni agreed, and headed for Rome with the letter in hand.

In Rome, he delivered the letter, and followed it until it reaches Rodrigo Borgia. Giovanni followed Borgia into St. Peter's Basilica, where the two finally share words; Borgia remarked at his respect for the assassin's skills, offering him the chance to join the Templar Order, and live to see the "new world". Giovanni refused, and was subsequently attacked by a number of Borgia's henchmen. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he prevailed, although a knife thrown by Rodrio Borgia did wound him, allowing the Templar the opportunity to escape.

Returning home, Giovanni had his wife tend his wound, and confessed that he feared the assassination of the Duke of Milan was just the beginning of a much wider conspiracy. Before he could go on however, the two were interrupted by their son Federico, who warned that Father Maffei had arrived with armed guards. Asking his son to provide him cover, Giovanni slipped out of the palazzo through a secret passage within the fireplace.

Betrayal and execution
At some point after this, Giovanni found evidence suggesting Francesco de' Pazzi had committed murder, and had Uberto Alberti arrest him; as a result of this, Francesco's son &ndash; Vieri, developed an intense rivalry with Ezio Auditore. Following a brawl the two had on the Ponte Vecchio, Giovanni scolded his son for his behavior, although he noted that it reminded him of himself when he was younger. He then tasked Ezio with delivering a letter to Lorenzo de' Medici, but was surprised to learn that Lorenzo had left the city for a short while. Undeterred, Giovanni had Ezio deliver several more letter, as well as pick up a letter from a pigeon coop near the Piazza della Signoria.

Whilst his son was away however, armed guards sent, unknowingly to Giovanni, by Uberto Alberti, invaded the Palazzo Auditore and arrested Giovanni and his two other sons, taking them to be imprisoned in the clock tower of the Piazza della Signoria. Before long, Ezio had managed to climb the clock tower, where Giovanni told his son to empty his chest in the room behind the fireplace, and take the evidence exonerating him to the Gonfaloniere. The next day however, Giovanni was shocked to find Uberto and Rodrigo Borgia together, with Uberto denying ever receiving the evidence; he was subsequently sentenced to death. A horrified Ezio, watching from below cried out that Uberto was lying, but was unable to prevent his father's hanging.

Legacy
Despite his death, Giovanni's actions would have lasting consequences for his surviving son: Ezio Auditore.

Having predicted a turn of events similar to what ultimately happened, Giovanni had arranged for his live-in servant Annetta to take his wife and daughter to her sister's establishment, where they would be safe. There, Annetta's sister Paola, a courtesan Giovanni had previously represented in court, and introduced into the Assassin's Order, provided Ezio with some basic training in blending, and gave him the skills necessary to execute his revenge on Uberto Alberti before he left the city. When Ezio arrived in Monteriggioni, his uncle Mario was shocked to discover that his brother had never told Ezio of his assassin heritage, or that Giovanni himself had indeed been an assassin. Despite this, Ezio soon vowed to take up all his fathers work, which included locating what remained of the Codex, and to avenge his death with the blood of Rodrigo Borgia and his Templar lackeys.

Eventually, Ezio returned to Florence and provided the body of his father with a proper funeral; he was cremated, alongside his two sons, and set adrift down the river in a small boat.

Personality and traits
Giovanni Auditore da Firenze was trained from birth in the Assassin ways, alongside his brother Mario. Despite this mutual upbringing, the two parted ways later in life due to a philosophical divide over how to live their lives. Giovanni, who had been tutored in banking, preferred to live a calmer life whereas Mario wished to live a life with more action. This divide eventually saw the two brothers lose touch with one another; to such a degree that upon his arrival in Monterigionni in 1476, Ezio Auditore was unaware who exactly his uncle was. The divide also affected how Giovanni brought up his children, with none of them explicitly knowing of their heritage.; however, although his children were unaware of his true nature, Giovanni did allow others to know of it, trusting in their secrecy. Among these individuals were his wife, who would often tend to his wounds, as well as the ruler of Florence, Lorenzo de' Medici, and the city's Gonfaloniere: Uberto Alberti. They were not the only ones to know however; many of Giovanni's contacts within the mercenaries, courtesans and thieves also knew the assassin by name, suggesting a certain degree of mutual-trust between the parties.

Despite never revealing to his children the heritage, Giovanni did work to prepare them for life as an assassin. By the time of his death, he had already begun preparing his eldest son, Federico, in the assassin ways, and was preparing to begin training Ezio as well. A strict father, Giovanni nonetheless showed great affection for his children, and saw a younger version of himself in their antics at times.

A skilled warrior, Giovanni was able to hold himself against a number of opponents in combat with relative ease, armed only with a sword and his hidden blade; early in 1476, Giovanni pursued Rodrigo Borgia to Rome, survived being ambushed by Templar soldiers, despite receiving a wound from the hands of Rodrigo himself. He was also a competent free runner, much like his sons, and would often use the skill when shadowing a target.

Trivia
*Giovanni's ring finger remains intact due to improvements to the "Hidden Blade," in effect to the changes of the Assassin Order's tactics and traditions made by Altaïr after the events of the first game. Notably, unlike Altaïr's version, the blade allows him full use of the blade with a clenched fist, although his son Ezio would reuse the open-handed methods of Altaïr.
*Giovanni died before telling Ezio (as well as his youngest son, Petruccio, and his daughter Claudia) of their Assassin heritage, which disappointed his brother, Mario. However, he had begun training his eldest son, Federico, but couldn't actually get far enough to teach him any intermediate Assassin skills.
*Giovanni knew about Ezio's Eagle vision, although it is unknown if he too possessed the skill.
*Giovanni leaves his Assassin outfit behind for Ezio to find, however in the short-film 'Assassin's Creed: Lineage', it lacks the 'Eagle's beak' on the hood, as well as several other details, due to the budget not being large enough to afford a perfect replica. Even so, the differences are minor.
*The sword Giovanni left behind for Ezio is the Common Sword, but in the cutscene where Giovanni is killed it is replaced by an Old Syrian Sword before that's knocked away, only to be replaced by the Common Sword again when the surviving Auditores are rescued by Mario's condottiere. (It is possible though unlikely that Ezio had actually drawn the Old Syrian Sword from one of the guards that he'd shrugged off.)
*Giovanni died at the age of forty, the same age Ezio turned when he confronted Rodrigo Borgia in Rome.
Claudia Auditore da Firenze (born 1461) is the sister of Ezio, Federico and Petruccio, the daughter of Giovanni and Maria Auditore, and the niece of Mario Auditore.

Biography
Assassin's Creed: Lineage
Claudia Auditore is a young Florentine girl from a noble family living during the 15th Century in Italy, the Renaissance. She is the daughter of Giovanni Auditore, an Assassin, a "profession" of her father that she doesn't know.

Assassin's Creed II
The day following Ezio's brawl with Vieri de' Pazzi's men, Claudia met with him feeling sad and depressed. She suspected her boyfriend Duccio, of being unfaithful. Ezio convinced her that Duccio was not the one for her and went on to confront him for Claudia.

After the tragic events that befell the Auditore family, Ezio vows to protect her, along with their mother, and escorts them both to the safety of the Villa Auditore. There, her uncle Mario puts her to work keeping a book of finances for the Villa; a task she finds positively scandalous, since it involves "work."

In the official novel 'Assassin's Creed: Renaissance,' Claudia went with Maria to a convent in Monteriggioni for a short time, and took her vows as a noviziata, or novice sister. However, she soon relocated to the Auditore villa and was later married to Mario's "senior captain." It is also stated in the book that she will soon 'give Ezio a niece or nephew of his own,' bringing more than two heirs (Desmond Miles and Subjects Sixteen) to the Auditore bloodline.

Characteristics and personality
It is evident that she has been too spoiled by Giovanni, unafraid to be violent when a girl “looked at her boyfriend,” and at times immature, such as when Mario assigned her to manage the Auditore Villa's finances. Regardless, Claudia is very capable of handling and keeping track of the town’s bankroll and her brother's purchases and earnings. She is also kind with her family, being especially emotional over her father and brothers' execution, and her mother’s emotional trauma.
</gallery></center>

Trivia
*Claudia is one of the few noticeable people who appear not to age over the course of the game. She remains at the same desk in the Villa Auditore for 23 years. After she complains about being put to work, her only interaction with Ezio is asking if he is "... [there] to look at the book" of finances.
*Due to her violent streak, Giovanni had to raise her dowry by 1000 florins because she scared off all of her suitors.
*She is Ezio's only sister, and unlike her brothers that were executed in order for Rodrigo Borgia to prove a point to Ezio, she was spared, likely because of her gender.
*When you start earning income from Monteriggioni, Claudia states she will keep any money past the chest's maximum capacity (based on your collectibles and renovations to Monteriggioni), with no explanation of what she intends to do with all that money. (Every twenty minutes an amount is deposited equal to approximately a fourth of the chest's capacity, which is reached upon the fourth deposit; afterwards there are no further deposits until the player returns to the villa to collect the income, upon which the process begins anew.)
Marco Barbarigo (1413 - 1486) was a member of the Knights Templar and Doge of Venice in the last year of his life. Belonging to a rich and powerful family, Marco was a tyrant used to getting his own way.

Biography
Once a friend of his bodyguard and attendant, Dante Moro, Marco became attracted to Moro's wife Carlotta and orchestrated an attempt on his former friend's life. Dante escaped his killers, but his wounds left his brain damaged. Marco made Dante renounce his marriage and afterwards he married Carlotta.

Like most of the Barbarigo family, Marco became involved with "the Spaniard" Rodrigo Borgia and his plot to take over the Venetian government. In 1485, after the assassination of his relative Emilio Barbarigo, Marco, Dante, Silvio Barbarigo and Carlo Grimaldi met with Rodrigo Borgia to discuss the progress of Grimaldi's mission. Unbeknownst to them, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze eavesdropped the meeting and discovered the Barbarigos' allegiance.

After the deaths of Doge Giovanni Mocenigo and Carlo Grimaldi, Marco was appointed Doge himself. Declaring Ezio an "enemy of Venice" for the murdering of Doge Mocenigo, Marco hid in the Palazzo Ducale, never to come out. However, Ezio managed to infiltrate Marco's private carnevale party. When Marco finally showed up on his boat to deliver a speech, Ezio took his chance to assassinate Marco, after which Marco's brother Agostino Barbarigo became Doge.
