Venice (Venezia in Italian) was an island city in northern Italy and capital to the Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia.

History
During the 15th Century, Venice was capital of the Most Serene Republic of Venice (Venetian: (Serenìsima) Repùblica Vèneta or Repùblica de Venesia, Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia), often referred to as La Serenissima in reference to its title in Venetian, and largest city of the republic. Historically founded by refugees from the Hunnic and Germanic invasion of Padua, Aquileia, and Altino, Venice developed to become a major trade and naval power in southern Europe, and by the year 1499 was engaged in sporadic conflict with the Ottoman Empire.

Even during the 13th Century venice had a notable Assassin presence, the area surrounding Venice was home to an assassin and his son – Domenico. Both enjoyed the patronage of the famed explorer Marco Polo, an ally of the Assassins. Their presence continued on into the 15th Century, occupying positions of command amongst the thieves, mercenaries and courtesans of the city.

Following the Templar failure to capture Florence during the Pazzi conspiracy, Rodrigo Borgia and his allies – the Barbarigo family – step up their plans to take control of the city of Venice. Influencing powerful members of Venetian government, such as Carlo Grimaldi, the Knights Templar assassinated the Doge Giovanni Mocenigo and placed oneof their own on the throne; Marco Barbarigo. By this time however, the Florentine assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze had arrived in Venice and begun to counter the Templar plot.

Following the assassination of Marco Barbarigo and the ascension of his brother Agostino, an ally to the Assassins, Ezio Auditore chased down the last remaining Barbarigos' Silvio, cousin to Agostino, and his man servant Dante Moro to L'Arsenale di Venezia and liberated the city's military district. It was here that the assassin learnt that the Templar plot to acquire Venice had merely been a distraction for the assassins', so that the Templar's might dispatch their vessel to Cyprus.

Landmarks
Like Florence, Venice was home to many notable landmarks; these included the Basillica, Piazza and Campanile di San Marco, the Palazzo Ducale, the Grand Canal, the Little Canal, and Rialto Bridge. Annually, the city hosted the famed Carnevale in the south of the city. Typically, it was celebrated with fireworks, carnival performers and a series of games; the winner being awarded with a Golden Mask that permitted entrance to the Doge's personal party.
The Patriarchal Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark (officially known in Italian as the Basilica Cattedrale Patriachale di San Marco and commonly known as Saint Mark's Basilica) was a famous cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice. The most famous of the city's churches and one of the best known examples of Byzantine architecture, it lay on the Piazza San Marco adjacent and connected to the Palazzo Ducale.

For its opulent design, gilded Byzantine mosaics, and its status as a symbol of Venetian wealth and power, from the 11th century on the building was known by the nickname Chiesa d'Oro (Church of Gold).

At some point in its history, the Basilica became home to one of six Assassin's Tomb hidden throughout northern Italy. The tomb was buried beneath the Basilica, and was accesible only after pulling four timed triggers.

Its high, blank walls made it unscalable from all sides, protecting the palace from intruders; within was a large ocurtyard flanked on all sides by an arched corridor. It wsa here that Ezio assassinates Carlo Grimaldi, who had in turn just assassinated the Doge, Giovanni Mocenigo.

spoilerhd

Those Who Came Before were an ancient race of beings, an incredibly advanced race who created the Pieces of Eden and humanity itself. Exactly who they were, how long ago, or how they came to die out is still largely unknown. What is believed is that they were an advanced race who were worshiped by ancient cultures such as the Greeks as gods. The woman known as Minerva said they were not gods, but a race more advanced in time who "simply came before".

Minerva revealed that at some point "Those Who Came Before" created the human race, possibly as some sort of slave race as shown in The Truth video. The race appeared to use humans as slaves and used the hypnotic powers of the Apples to control them to do their bidding. However, two humans named Adam and Eve stole one of the mythical fruits of the tree of knowledge described in the Bible (the fruit was the Apple of Eden). In truth, the two may have stolen the apple to free mankind from the oppression of their masters.

While the ancient race was more technologically advanced and powerful, humanity had the advantage of numbers. Minerva stated that both sides craved war, but they were so preoccupied with their fighting; an impending danger was approaching from the "heavens". This danger from the heavens is speculated by Shaun and Lucy. They hypothesize that it could have been caused by a massive solar flare which would have terrible impact on the Earth's weakening magnetic field, reversing the polarity and making the planet geologically unstable. Also, they mentioned the geomagnetic reversal of Earth's poles as a possible cause of the destruction. However, geomagnetic reversal is a natural affect which has occurred multiple times over Earth's history, the last of which was 0.78 million years ago.

Despite the unknown cause of destruction, humanity and the ancient race survived, as Minerva said "We built you in our image, we built you to survive" (confirming they did indeed create humanity). Both humanity and the ones who came before survived, though in dwindled numbers, and set to rebuild. As the Earth and mankind worked to recover, the race "endeavored to ensure that this tragedy would not be repeated". This lead to the creation of the temples, such as The Vault in Rome, which were "built by those who learned to turn away from war".

It can at least be established that by Ezio's time the race had since died out already (Minerva states that she is the last), and appear to have left the temples as a some sort of means to save the Earth in the event of another disaster.

It would appear they have some form of precognition, or ability to predict what will happen as Minerva told Ezio he was just a conduit and she spoke directly to Desmond, showing she knew that Desmond would receive the message by viewing it through Ezio in the Animus.

Also in the Truth file "Bloodlines" you must highlight all the painting of gods having children with humans, with the heading, "Behold the Assassins, the children of two worlds!", possibly meaning that at some point in time the humans and the "gods" (Those Who Came Before) had children with humans, the Assassins, that had special abilities (Eagle Vision), this would also explain Subject 16 saying, "Why do we have these gifts? Because it's in our blood!"

Meaning that Desmond and Subject 16 are both born assassins and that Altiar, Ezio and Desmond have Eagle vision because they are related to Those Who Came Before, and that the Eagle vision was passed on through their bloodline.

Monteriggioni Statuettes
As an interesting note, Minerva is one of the 8 statuettes you can collect in Monteriggioni. As Minerva is one of "Those Who Came Before," the other statuettes could be as well. The figures depicted by the statuettes are Neptune and Pluto, Jupiter and Minerva, Dianna and Apollo, and Mars and Venus. What is also interesting is that they are all Athenian mythological Gods. Could this mean that they are remnants of "Those Who Came Before" and survivors of the cataclysmic event described by Minerva? Could they be the ones that helped humans build the temples that she mentioned? BARF BARF.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze, is a young member of the Florentine Nobility and the second son of Giovanni Auditore, an Assassin. He is ignorant to his father's true profession, and his hereditary duties. He has slight skills at playing chess, and he is "learning fast" according to his mother (though he lost against his older brother, Federico).

Plot
Ezio Auditore da Firenze's story begins moments after he exits the womb of his mother, Maria Auditore. Originally it seemed like Ezio was a stillborn, but after his father arrives the newborn begins to move his limbs and cry. Giovanni Auditore, his father, welcomes Ezio into the world and bestows his name upon him. We rejoin Ezio years later during a rousing pre-fight speech, addressing his friends. Ezio is holding one side of a bridge against Vieri Di Pazzi and his men, whom insult the House of Auditore, and Ezio's mother and father personally. Reprimanded gently by his elder brother, Federico and his father, Ezio becomes more involved with his family's affairs. He would then sleep with Cristina Vespucci that night. His father, Giovanni, and another man, Uberto Alberti are discussing secret matters that Ezio can't make sense of, but seem urgent. Eventually, guards raid Plazzo Auditore and arrest Giovanni, Federico, and Petruccio, leaving just Maria and Claudia at the home. Ezio delivers evidence that can prove his family's innocence to Uberto, who promises to defend them at the hearing. But it turns out Uberto is a traitor who destroyed the evidence and sentenced the three Auditore men to death. Swearing vengeance, Ezio has to hide his mother and sister and learn the ways of the Assassin. He is first taught stealth by Paola of the Courtesans, mainly in survival in the streets. later in the game Ezio is taught basic combat, by his uncle Mario, of the Mercenary faction. After assassinating Uberto, apparently a city official in charge of the law, Ezio has to balance his life between assassinations and protecting his sister and mother, who refuses to speak after Ezio's father and brothers were taken. Now wanted in Florence, Ezio has to flee Florence to Tuscany with his family to the Auditore villa. He meets up with Uncle Mario, whose mercenaries save his family from an attack by Vieri and his men. For the next 23 years, he works as an Assassin, killing off the Templars responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers. Rodrigo Borgia, the leader of the Templars, starts to become aware of his movements, and tries to protect the other Templars. However, all of them die by Ezio's hands.

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery
Ezio's contact Antonio later asked for Ezio to come see him. After he did so, Antonio was accompanied by another man called Luis Santangel. He asked for Ezio to protect his friend, Christoffa Corombo, at a meeting with Rodrigo Borgia. Borgia did not show up and Christoffa was about to be attacked, but he was rescued by Ezio. Ezio then travelled to Spain to find out the Templars' new plans
Ezio is a young Florentine nobleman who lives during the 15th and 16th century. Unlike Altaïr, he is a seducer, and easily blends with any social class. He comes from an affluent background and has many friends until a life-changing event, wherein he and his family are betrayed, victims of a conspiracy that takes his father's, elder brother's, and younger brother's lives. Forced to protect his mother and his sister Claudia, his remaining family, he becomes an Assassin, exacting vengeance on the conspirators who betrayed his family, his first victim, the one who sentenced his father's and brothers' public execution, Uberto Alberti. From that day on, Ezio and the rest of the Auditore family are considered criminals and traitors, and he flees Florence to the safety of his ancestral home in the Tuscan countryside. Ezio is helped not only by his uncle Mario, but also Leonardo da Vinci, who becomes his best friend and his personal engineer, as well as Niccolò Machiavelli, Lorenzo de' Medici and other famous Renaissance figures.

Ezio will travel across Italy to various locations like Venice, Tuscany and Rome. In Assassin's Creed II, all players will live approximately 23 years of his life from when he was 17 years old (a Novice), to 40 years old (a Master Assassin), or 1476 to 1499.

After he returns from Spain, he sealed his piece of Eden under the statue of Altair at the Villa. It is also speculated that Ezio does in fact have the ability to live forever due to the Staff's powers. Another popular rumour is that Ezio meets Altair at least once through out his life.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze is able to use a variety of weapons including two hidden blades, allowing him to assassinate two enemies simultaneously. Combat is also available with the hidden blade, as when countering an enemy, Ezio will kill the enemy, whether by stabbing repeatedly in the chest/stomach, or stabbing in the head. He can also steal (and use) several enemy weapons such as axes, hammers, maces, spears, halberds and two different sword types (one and two-handed). Ezio is also able to use Leonard Da Vinci's flying machine in some parts of the game, gaining altitude from bonfires set throughout the city by his allies. Ezio will gain many upgrades from Da Vinci on his wrist gauntlet like a wheel lock firearm concealed near his left hidden blade, and a poison needle inside one other hidden blade. Ezio possesses the ability to use Eagle Vision while moving. He can visit Blacksmiths to purchase weapons and armors including Helmschmeid and Metal Plate, or tailors to customize the colors of his clothing. After obtaining all six seals from hidden Assassin's Tombs, Ezio can open the locked gate to Altair's Armor inside the Villa Monteriggioni, created by Altair after the defeat of Al-Mualim. It is easily the best armor available in the game, giving much more health and resistance points than any prior suit or piece, and it is unbreakable.

The Codex pieces alludes to the possibility of the armor being forged from, or including parts of, the Golden Fleece - which could be a Piece of Eden. Considering that the armor is unbreakable, this is likely. The Sword of Altair can also be bought from the Monteriggioni blacksmith any time after the eighth scenario.

Trivia
* The Italian name 'Ezio' derives from the Greek word 'Aetos', which means "Eagle", similar to Altaïr whose name means "The Flying One".
* Unlike Altaïr (who had his ring finger removed as a commitment to make way for the Hidden Blade), Ezio has all ten fingers. A modification to the Hidden Blade made sometime after Altaïr defeated Al-Mualim spared Ezio's left ring finger. Leonardo Da Vinci deciphers a Codex Page written by Altaïr on which said modification was illustrated. Instead of said removal of the ring finger, Assassins now have a mark burned into the ring finger as a sign of their lineage.
* It is stated in the Philosophical Codex that after Altaïr defeated Al-Mualim at the end of the first Assassin's Creed and became the leader, the Assassins were forced to realize the scope of their fight against the Templars, and had to abandon many of their traditions: like the removal of the ring finger or the ban on using poison, in order to survive.
* Ezio uses a wheel lock firearm, a type of weapon that Europe didn't start developing until the very late 1400's and early 1500's, sometime during the Italian Renaissance, making this weapon most likely one of the very first of its type to appear in Europe. Thus, many in-game citizens do not know what the weapon is. The earliest firearms were single shot and took time to reload, so will most likely be only used as a last resort weapon. Leonardo Da Vinci didn't create the firearm mentioned, but found instructions to make one from a Codex page, meaning Altaïr was the one who invented the Hidden Gun (though it was a miniaturization of the first guns invented by the Moroccans at the time) through knowledge gained from the Apple of Eden. Also note that Da Vinci created some of the first modern wheel lock pistols, so this could be a shortened version of one.
* Ezio's face in Assassin's Creed II seems to be a mixture of Desmond's (Francisco Randez) and Devon Bostick's from Lineage .
* It would appear as though Ezio is unaware that he of his lineage to Assassins or that he is a descendant of Altaïr, despite learning about Altaïr in Monteriggioni and what kind of assassin he was, he never truly understands why he is such a successful assassin himself.
* Ezio is 40 years old in 1499 (15 years older than Altaïr's age in 1191); the same age as his father when his father died in 1476.
* If you move the camera to a certain angle in the game, Ezio's face has barely aged, except for the beard, even if you played through 20 plus years of his life. His voice does deepen and mature through time, though.
* It seems that his father's Hidden Blade has survived over almost 500 years (from 1499 to 2012) since Desmond is seen using a similar looking one at the end of the game.
* The scar on Ezio's mouth may have been acquired after the mission "Boys Will Be Boys", when Vieri De Pazzi threw the rock at his face during the first memory sequance

The game begins with a narration from Desmond explaining what has happened since the end of the first game. Lucy has been taken away and Desmond has found no new information about his situation. As the narration ends we found Desmond staring at the hidden blood message on the wall when Lucy returns, blood on her shirt, and tells him that she has come to rescue him. Desmond re-enters the Animus and briefly experiences the birth of his ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, while Lucy makes a copy of the Animus' memory. The two then proceed to escape Abstergo, fighting through a number of guards and into a car parked in the buildings underground lot, to one of the Assassins' hideouts. After being introduced to fellow modern Assassins, Shaun and Rebecca, Lucy explains that with their numbers dwindling they require Desmond to assist them by becoming an Assassin. In order to do so Lucy intends to train Desmond by exploiting the Animus' bleeding effect. By going through years memories from one his ancestors Desmond will be able to master the Assassin's art in days. The Assassins have created their own version of the Animus, labeled the Animus 2.0, and Desmond proceeds to enter Ezio's memories.

Ezio's life takes place in late 15th century Italy during the Renaissance, approximately 300 years after Altaïr's time. In 1476, young Ezio is living the life of a noble in Florence. The memories begins with Ezio about to fight a rival group from another family, including the young Vieri de' Pazzi, who has insulted the Auditore family and also Ezio's parents personally. He is eventually joined in the battle by his older brother Frederico and they drive off the Pazzi's. After the fight Frederico takes Ezio to a nearby doctor to check out a small wound he had recieved. After the doctor is done with him Frederico and Ezio race to the top of a nearby church. On the way home Ezio decides to pay a visit to Cristina Vespucci and they sleep together.

In the morning he is driven out of the Vespucci home by Cristina's father. After returning home he is chastised by his father, Giovanni Auditore, and is then asked by him to help their family with various things around the house. These include helping his mother, Maria, carry paintings from the studio of the young Leonardo Da Vinci, retrieve a feather for his younger brother Petruccio, and beat up the cheating boyfriend of his sister Claudia. Ezio then overhears a conversation between his father and a man named Uberto Alberti. Though he can not tell exactly what his father has said he can tell the he is distressed about something. His father then asks Ezio to deliver some letter, and when he returns he finds that his home has been raided by guards and that his two brothers and his father have been taken to prison.

Ezio then sends his sister and mother, who has been shocked into silence, to the house of their maid's sister. Ezio then climbs to the top of the prison to speak to his father, who asks him to retrieve several items hidden in his home and a document, and to deliver this document to Uberto because they will prove thier families innocence. Ezio returns to his home and finds an assassin outfit hidden in his father's studies, and the document. He delivers the document and is promised by Uberto that he will represent his father and brothers at their hearing tomorrow. However the next day he finds Uberto has betrayed him, and has ordered his father and brothers to be hanged for treason against Florence. Ezio attempts to fight his way through the crowd to save them, but is unable to do so and watches as his father and brothers die. Ezio is forced to flee and makes his way to the home where his sister and mother are hiding. He informs them of what has happened and swears vengeance against Uberto. Ezio then meets Paula of the Courtesans, who is the sister of their house maid and is caring for his mother and sister. Ezio is taught the elements of stealth by Paula, and then proceeds to meet with Leonardo da Vinci, who decrypts one of Ezio's documents and uses it to repair his hidden blade. Ezio then proceeds to assassinate Uberto.

After the assassination Ezio is a wanted criminal, so he flees Florence with Maria and Claudia, heading to his family villa in the Tuscan countryside. On the way he is attacked by Vieri de' Pazzi, and while fighting him and his men he is aided by his uncle Mario and his mercenaries. At the villa Mario tells Ezio of his Assassin heritage. Ezio is incredulous, always thinking of his father as only a banker, and states his intention to flee to Spain with his family, but Mario implores him to stay and fight the Pazzi and Templars. Mario trains Ezio how to fight, while encouraging him to become an assassin. He then goes with his uncle to attack the city of Tuscany and to kill Vieri de' Pazzi.

After assassinating Vieri, Ezio learns of additional conspirators involved in his father and brothers' deaths. Mario introduces Ezio to various items in the villa, one being a set of armor belonging to Altaïr. He is also shown several pages of the Codex, one of which was what Leonardo had decrypted. Written by Altaïr, the Codex is a set of memoirs describing his experiences and thoughts after retrieving the Apple of Eden, and also contains designs and sketches of several things, such as a miniature firearm, and a new type of metal. Over the next decade, Ezio assassinates many of the conspirators, with the assistance of several new allies, and Leonardo's developments, based on the designs from the Codex.

Eventually, Desmond is pulled out of the Animus, as Lucy calls it a day. She tests the retention of Desmond's skills, and notes a great amount of progress, although Desmond is suffering from minor detrimental effects, such as brief hallucinations of the past. Desmond appears to black out and has an extended, vivid hallucination or dream of Altaïr pursuing Maria, a Templar who Altaïr had spared, and proceeding to romance her. As it so happens, Desmond is unable to follow Altair once he leaves Maria, which reveals that Maria is now pregnant with his child. Afterwords, Desmond wakes up, feeling confused.

Returning back into the Animus, Ezio continues his pursuit. Once nearly all of the conspirators are dead, only Rodrigo Borgia still remains, and was the center of the conspiracy. Ezio learns that Rodrigo has retrieved the Apple of Eden from Cyprus, and his men are delivering it to him. With all of Ezio's past allies suddenly appearing, they aid Ezio in reclaiming the Apple of Eden, but Rodrigo flees. After the battle, Ezio learns that all of his allies are Assassins, and were all guiding him throughout his life. Although Rodrigo had called himself a prophet, the Assassins state that Ezio may be the prophet described in the Codex. Letting go of the idea of revenge, Ezio is officially inducted as an Assassin.

Some sort of problem occurs with the Animus, and several memories are skipped, lapsing forward to the year 1499. With the Apple of Eden, and the completed Codex, they locate the position of the "vault", for which the prophet may find. The location is found to be in Vatican City, where Rodrigo Borgia has now become Pope Alexander VI. As Pope, Rodrigo also possesses the papal staff, another Piece of Eden. Ezio attempts to assassinate Rodrigo, but fails, and Rodrigo attempts to use the staff and the Apple of Eden to open the vault. Ezio intercepts him, sparing his life, and enters the vault instead.

Within the vault, Ezio encounters a hologram in the form of a woman. Ezio asks if they are gods, but she states that they had simply came before. She was once known as "Minerva", though she has had other names such as Merva, while others had Juno and Jupiter, formerly Uni and Tinia. Minerva explains that her brethren had formerly lived alongside humanity, and had evolved them. However, humanity rebelled, and they eventually fell apart, with Minerva still continuing to wonder if they could live together. Ezio says that he is confused, but Minerva tells him to stay quiet; she is actually speaking through him, as he is the prophet. Minerva explains the occurrence of a disaster that destroyed their civilization, and that it will happen again. She directly addresses Desmond, saying that "The rest is up to you". Greatly confused, Ezio questions who Desmond is, but the hologram fades, and the Animus is shut down.

Abstergo has located and attacked their hideout, prompting Shaun and Rebecca to pull Desmond out of the Animus. While the two pack everything, Lucy and Desmond try to buy time, with Desmond receiving an Assassin's hidden blade and using it with great proficiency. Desmond confronts Vidic, but he flees, and the group evacuate to another safehouse. Lucy prepares to review the tapes of Desmond's latest session, noting how the situation has escalated dramatically, and speculating on the possibility of an event such as the Sun's geomagnetic reversal. Rebecca prepares the Animus for Desmond to search for artifacts or clues that may help them.

During Desmond's time in the Animus, he also encounters a series of out-of-place glyphs, located throughout his memories. The glyphs are found to be the same ones drawn on Desmond's bedroom wall in Abstergo, and analysis reveals that they contain computer code, hidden in the Animus. "Subject 16", the Animus user preceding Desmond, had placed the encrypted code as a message, and Lucy had taken this data along with the copy of the Animus' memory. The encrypted code contains a great number of historical artworks, photographs, and messages, past and present, implicating a great number of prominent events and figures with the Templars, and Pieces of Eden. Unlocking all of the glyphs reveals a brief video, labeled with "Subject 16, Session 12, Classified Date B.C.E." A man and woman rush through a garden-like area and a futuristic complex, with a glimpse of other people manufacturing something. On the roof of the complex, the woman holds up the Apple of Eden, and she and the man identify each other as Adam and Eve.
Gameplay
The May 2009 GameInformer article revealed that many new features would be added to the game engine. Ezio will be given two hidden blades, allowing him to eliminate two enemies at once. New weapons, such as spears, axes, halberds, and maces have been revealed as well. In order to obtain the weapons, Ezio must kill a guard wielding the weapon he wants but he drops his new weapon after he has killed one of his enemies. Ezio will have access to many weapons, but some enemies are only weak to certain weapons. The player can also buy and upgrade weapons and items at shops, as an alternative to scavenging them off of fallen foes. The enemies Ezio will face have also been expanded upon, so that now he will be forced to contend with both heavily armored swordsman, lightly armored foes wielding lighter weapons, and halberdiers who will seek to attack him from afar. The cinematic trailer also revealed that not only has Ezio hidden blades in his gauntlets, but also has a gun below his left hidden blade. There will be over 30 weapons in the game.

thumb|300px|right|The latest gameplay video from the Tokyo Game Show

New forms of cover will be introduced, including the ability to hide underneath the water (as long as you have enough oxygen). As it is, Ezio can kill guards via drowning them, and during an interview when the question was brought up, the reply was "the game's not finished yet". Possibly this game will feature the same 'leaps of faith', but rather than jumping into haystacks (which will now include carts of leaves, flower petals and other things), you can also jump into water. This way Ezio will grab his enemies by either jumping out of the haystack or the water to kill them with his hidden blade. This tactic will of course compromise your position to other guards (Known as Seekers) and they will have the ability to check haystacks and other areas by stabbing their weapons into them. Ezio will automatically hide the dead bodies of his victims depending where he himself is hiding. To confuse guards you can use an explosive powder(known as a smoke bomb) that will further cover your tracks. Rather than blending in with scholars as Altaïr did, Ezio will also be able to blend with larger crowds. Climbing has a new feature. Not only is Ezio as fast a climber as Altaïr, but he can leap to a higher position while climbing a certain building. Guards positioned in towers, or other high buildings, can be grabbed and pulled down, so they will fall to their death, as Ezio climbs them.

The mission design in the first game was thought to be too repetitive, so the developers are adding at least 16 new mission types, so missions don't seem to run together. This is a large increase over the number in the original, as there are now over 200 missions in Assassin's Creed II. Missions like eavesdropping or pick pocketing (Ezio can however steal from any citizen and can also be stolen from) have been removed from the list of quests in this game. Yet another new feature is a notoriety system in which Ezio will become recognized as he takes on more quests in each town; higher notoriety will result in civilians and guards becoming increasingly wary of the player's movements. This level of notoriety will be set within each city, so that while the player may be completely unknown in some cities, he may be infamous in others. The player may take on quests to bribe or kill informants and remove wanted posters in order to decrease his notoriety level. Updated is also the quest to collect flags, but also mini-statues and golden coins. But unlike the first game, you will be given bonus features if you succeed in collecting them. Ezio will also be aided by famous Renaissance figures, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolò Machiavelli. Caterina Sforza and Lorenzo De' Medici will also make an appearance. Ezio's synchronization bar will fill normally like in the original game, but more major injuries must be treated by street-side doctors. A day and night cycle will also be added.

A big annoyance in the first game was that all enemies could follow you where ever you went, on top of buildings, and sometimes across the entire city, making losing their sight long enough to hide almost impossible. In Assassin's Creed II only a new, lightly armored, more agile, scout like enemy will have the ability to follow you.

Another new feature is Ezio will own his own villa (which, during the time was a fortified town.) It's role will be like that of Masyaf from the first game. Through out the game, Ezio will be able to add and upgrade shops that will give him discounts and place where people will pay Ezio rent (brothel's, etc.). There will be secret places here too that Ezio can access by paying money. Ezio will have his own house where he will have a room full of the portraits of the assassination targets he has killed, a treasure room, an armory to hold his weapons and armor, and a room full of statues of great assassins (one of the statues has been confirmed as Altair, the assassin from the first game) which Ezio can get plaques for. When a plaque has been put on a statue, Ezio will receive a reward a bonus worth on the villa but in order to obtain Altaïr's armor you will need all six seals as Mario said all the guardians must be complete to obtain Altair's armor. (NOTE: Altair's statue does not need a seal)

Assassin's Creed 2 will also have a system mildly similar to the "glitches" from Assassin's Creed in which pressing a button during a cutscene will give you a new vantage point. Assassin's Creed 2 has improved on this in a quick time reminiscent way during cutscenes, as pressing the right button at the right time will produce a reward.
Several days before the release of Assassin's Creed II, EBGames Australia offered an unlock code for Palazzo Medicis when you preordered the normal edition.

The two bonus maps are not so much maps as bonus missions which are contained within their own maps. The Palazzo Medici maps has Ezio rescuing Lorenzo De Medici from Templar soldiers who have invaded his home, for which Ezio receives a substantial monetary reward. The Santa Maria Dei Frari map is very similar to the Assassin's tomb maps which are found elsewhere in the game, although there is no Assassin's seal to retrieve at the end; there is only a monetary reward.
On January 22 2008, it was confirmed by Ubisoft that Assassin's Creed II was in production, but no details were revealed. A promotional video was released by Ubisoft on April 6 showing a map of Italy, some hidden blade designs, and DaVinci's flying machine on a scroll. On the official site after the teaser is viewed a symbol is given to print and show in front of a webcam. Doing this will unlock a picture displayed on the site. 4 of the 5 symbols have been given by Ubisoft, and the other was found by a fan. Later, on April 10, Game Informer magazine released details on the game, as well as pictures of Ezio. There are about 240 team members, some of these members were sent to Italy, traveling through Venice, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome. ScrewAttack also released a video with some of the pictures from the magazine. In early May, Ubisoft has stated that they are putting full emphasis on the game and that 450 team members are now working on the title. 75% of the original developers for the original game are now working on the second.
He is first taught stealth by Paola ofthe Courtesans, mainly in survival in the streets. later in the game Ezio is taught basic combat, by his uncle Mario, of the Mercenary faction. After assassinating Uberto, apparently a city official in charge of the law, Ezio has to balance his life between assassinations and protecting his sister and mother, whom refuses to speak after Ezio's father and brothers were taken. Now wanted in Florence, Ezio has to flee Florence to Tuscany with his family to the Auditore villa. He meets up with Uncle Mario, whose mercenaries save his family from an attack by Vieri and his men. For the next 27 years, he works as an Assassin, killing off the Templars responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers. Rodrigo Borgia, the leader of the Templars, starts to become aware of his movements, and tries to protect the other Templars. However, all of them die by Ezio's hands.
Forced to protect his mother and his sister Claudia, his remaining family, he becomes an Assassin, exacting vengeance on the conspirators who betrayed his family, his first victim the one who sentenced his father's and brothers' public execution, Uberto Alberti.

Ezio is able to use a variety of weapons including two hidden blades, allowing him to eliminate two enemies simultaneously. Combat is also available with the hidden blade, as when countering an enemy, Ezio will kill the enemy, whether by jabbing repeatedly in the chest/stomach, or stabbing in the head. He can also steal (and use) several enemy weapons such as axes, hammers, maces, spears, halberds and two different sword types (one- and two-handed). Ezio is also able to use Da Vinci's flying machine in some parts of the game, gaining altitude from fires set throughout the city by his allies. Ezio will gain many upgrades from Da Vinci on his wrist gauntlet like a wheel lock firearm concealed near his left hidden blade, and poison needle. Ezio possesses the ability to use Eagle Vision while moving. He can visit Blacksmiths to purchase weapons and armors including Helmschmeid and Metal Plate, or tailors to customize the colors of his clothing. After obtaining all six seals from the Assassin's Tombs, Ezio can open the locked gate to Altair's Armor, created by Altair after the defeat of Al-Mualim. It is easily the best armor available in the game, giving much more health and resistance points than any prior suit or piece, and it is unbreakable.

The Codex alludes to the possibility of the armor being forged from, or including parts of, the Golden Fleece - which could be a Piece of Eden.

* Unlike Altaïr (who had his ring finger removed to make way for the Hidden Blade), Ezio has all ten fingers. A modification to the Hidden Blade made sometime after Altaïr defeated Al-Mualim spared Ezio's ring finger. Leonardo Da Vinci deciphers a Codex Page written by Altaïr on which said modification was illustrated. Assassins have a mark burned into the ring finger as a sign of their lineage.
* Ezio uses a wheel lock firearm, a type of weapon that Europe didn't start developing until the very late 1400's and early 1500's, making this weapon most likely one of the very first of its type to appear in Europe. Thus, many in-game citizens do not know what the weapon is. The earliest firearms were single shot and took time to reload, so will most likely be only used as a last resort weapon. Leonardo Da Vinci didn't create the Hidden Gun, but found instructions to make one from a Codex page, meaning Altaïr invented the Hidden Gun (though it was a miniaturization of the first guns invented by the Moroccans at the time) through knowledge gained from the Apple of Eden. Also note that Da Vinci created some of the first modern wheel lock pistols, so this could be a shortened version of one.
* Ezio's face in Assassin's Creed II seems to be a mixture of Desmond's (Francisco Randez) and Devon Bostick's from Lineage .
* It would appear as though Ezio is unaware that he is the decendant of Altaïr, despite learning about Altaïr and what kind of assassin he was, he never truly understands why he is such a sucessful assassin himself.
* Ezio is 40 years old in 1499 (15 years older than Altaïr's age in 1191); the same age as his father when his father died in 1476.
* If you move the camera to a certain angle that shows Ezio's face, you see that his face has barely aged, except for the beard, even if you played through 20 plus years of his life. His voice does deepen and mature, though.
* It seems his father's Hidden Blade has survived over 500 years since Desmond is seen using a similar looking one at the end of the game.
* The scar on Ezio's mouth may have been acquired after Vieri De Pazzi threw the rock at his face in the first memory sequence.
It is easily the best armor available in the game, giving much more health and resistance points than any prior suit or piece, and it is unbreakable.

The Codex alludes to the possibility of the armor being forged from, or including parts of, the Golden Fleece - which could be a Piece of Eden.

Leonardo Da Vinci didn't create the Hidden Gun, but found instructions to make one from a Codex page, meaning Altaïr invented the Hidden Gun (and most likely the first firearm) through knowledge gained from the Apple of Eden.
*If you move the camera to a certain angle that shows Ezio's face, you see that his face has barely aged, except for the beard, even if you played through 20 plus years of his life.

Assassin's Creed II
Reprimanded gently by his elder brother, Frederico and his father, Ezio becomes more involved with his family's affairs. He would then sleep with Cristina Vespucci that night. His father, Giovanni, and another man, Uberto Alberti are discussing secret matters that Ezio can't make sense of, but seem urgent. Eventually, guards raid Plazzo Auditore and arrest Giovanni, Federico, and Petruccio. Ezio delivers evidence that can prove his family's innocence to Uberto, who promises to defend them at the hearing. But it turns out Alberti is a traitor who destroyed the evidence and sentenced the three Auditore men to death. Swearing vengeance, Ezio has to hide his mother and sister and learn the ways of the Assassin. He is first taught stealth by Paula of the Courtesans, and later combat, by his uncle Mario, of the Mercenary faction. After assassinating Uberto, apparently a city official in charge of the law, Ezio has to balance his life between assassinations and protecting his sister and mother, whom refuses to speak after Ezio's father and brothers were taken. Now wanted in Florence, Ezio has to flee Firenze to Tuscany with his family to the Auditore villa. He meets up with Uncle Mario, whose mercenaries save his family from an attack by Pazzi.

is a seducer, and he easily blends with any social classes. He has an affluent lifestyle and many friends until a life-changing event. He and his family are betrayed, victims of a conspiracy that takes his father's, elder
Equipment
Ezio is able to use a variety of weapons including two hidden blades, allowing him to eliminate two enemies simultaneously.

Combat is also available with the hidden blade, as when countering an enemy, Ezio will kill the enemy, whether by jabbing
repeatedly in the chest/stomach, or stabbing in the head. He can also steal (and use) several enemy weapons such as axes,
hammers, maces, spears, halberds and two different sword types (one- and two-handed). Ezio is also able to use Da Vinci's flying machine in some parts of the game, gaining altitude from fires set throughout the city by his allies. Italy, during the Renaissance, the Medicis are ruling over Florence. But a conspiracy in a attempt to overthrow the powerful Lorenzo de' Medici is being plotted. Rodrigo Borgia is part of it. One night of 1476, Rodrigo is on his way to leave Florence with few of his men in the dark streets of the city. Suddenly, Giovanni Auditore intercepts him. Rodrigo flees immediately as the Assassin is fighting with his men. Hidden behind a corner, he sees the Assassin capturing one of his men. The prisoner reveals to Rodrigo's enemies the assassination of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan and a powerful ally of Lorenzo. However, the Assassin arrives too late. Rodrigo and his accomplices' plan has succeed. He is planning the next move.
We can see Rodrigo on the execution platform of Florence, attending to the judgement of Giovanni Auditore and his sons. He is later seen during a meeting for the plot of the Pazzis and the Templars in a catacomb under the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.

Borgia is later found in Venice, discussing with Carlo Grimaldi and the Barbarigos about killing the current Doge so that one of them can replace the Doge and take control of Venice. He appears later on to claim the Piece of Eden the Templars found in Cyprus. Ezio, disguised as the carrier of the artifact, attempts to kill Borgia, but he had planned this out, knowing that Ezio would do this. The two then begin a battle against each other, with Ezio being the victor. However, Borgia calls in his guards and is ready for battle once again, when suddenly, all of Ezio's allies throughout the story appear and help him defeat Borgia, who then escapes from them before Ezio can kill him.

In the Final Memory Block, Ezio travels to Rome to assassinate Borgia, who has now become the Pope. Ezio sneaks into the Vatican and seemingly assassinates Borgia without being seen, after Ezio finishes speaking with Borgia he leaves only to have him rise from the ground and uses his Piece of Eden, the Papal Cross to strike down Ezio and everyone else in the room. However, he is surprised to see that Ezio has not given up his will to stop him, instead he brings out his own Piece of Eden, The Apple, Ezio then summons 4 clones of himself to assist him in his battle against Borgia, eventually defeating him. Borgia snatches The Apple from Ezio's hands, and combines it with The Staff to open up the door to The Vault, which had been underneath Rome the whole time. Ezio tries to stop but he is lifted into the air by Borgia and stabbed with a sword, lying on the ground as Borgia escapes into the Vault. Ezio eventually finds the Vault, with Borgia furiously pounding the door to the inner chambers, Ezio drops down into the pit where he is, and challenges him to a battle with no weapons, Borgia accepts and the two have one last Battle. During the battle, Borgia states that he never believed in The Bible or in God, and only became Pope to get the Staff and access to the Vault, wanting to unify Italy under the Templar rule. Ezio defeats Borgia but refrains from killing him, saying that killing him will not bring back his family, leaving him alone in the Vault.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze's story begins moments after he exits the womb of his mother, Maria Auditore. A sense of threat is clear at the sight of the baby boy. Giovanni Auditore, dismisses the trepidation of the wet nurse and his Mother by welcoming Ezio into the world and bestowing his name upon him. We rejoin Ezio years later during a rousing pre-fight speech, addressing the other members of the House of Auditore. Ezio is holding one side of a bridge against Vieri Di Pazzi and his men, whom insult the House of Auditore, and Ezio's mother and father personally. Eventually, guards raid the Giovanni home and arrest Giovanni, Federico, and Petruccio. After assassinating Uberto, apparently a city official in charge of the law, Ezio has to balance his life between assassinations and protecting his sister and mother, who refuses to speak after Ezio's father and brothers were taken. Now wanted in Florence, Ezio has to flee Firenze to Tuscany with his family to the Auditore villa. He meets up with Uncle Mario, whose mercenaries save his family from an attack by Pazzi.
Trivia
* The Italian name 'Ezio' derives from the Greek word 'Aetos', which means "Eagle", similar to Altaïr whose name means "The Flying One".
* Unlike Altaïr (who had his ring finger removed to make way for the Hidden Blade), Ezio has all ten fingers (as evidenced by the fact he wears a ring -either a signet or wedding ring- marked with the Assassin's symbol). This was not, as is widely believed, made possible by a modification by Leonardo Da Vinci, as Giovanni da Firenze (Ezio's father) has all of his fingers as well. It is likely the change was made at some point between Altaïr's time and Ezio's. This seems odd, as the sacrifice of the finger was originally intended to 'ensure the commitment of whoever wields [the blade]'. However it is possible that as the Assassin brotherhood became more secretive, the missing finger became too obvious as a signal of involvement and was phased out.
* It is stated in the Philosophical Codex that after Altaïr defeated Al-Mualim at the end of Assassin's Creed 1 and became the leader, that the Assassins were forced to realize the scope of their fight against the Templars, and would have to abandon many of their traditions, like the removal of the ring finger or the ban on using poison, in order to survive.
* Ezio uses a wheel lock firearm, a type of weapon that Europe didn't start developing until the very late 1400's and early 1500's, making this weapon most likely one of the very first of its type to appear in Europe, thus many people may not know what the weapon is in game. The earliest firearms were single shot and took time to reload, so will most likely be only used as a last resort weapon. Once again Leonardo Da Vinci didn't create the Hidden Gun, but found instructions to make one from a Codex page, meaning Altaïr invented the Hidden Gun (and most likely the first ever firearm). Also note that Da Vinci created some of the first modern wheel lock pistols, so this could be a shortened version of one.
* Ezio's face in Assassin's Creed II seems to be a mixture of Desmond's (Francisco Randez) and Devon Bostick's from Lineage.
