Saladin (or Salah al-Din)(Arabic: صلاح الدين) Full name: Yusuf Salah al-Din Ibn Ayyub (Arabic: يوسف صلاح الدين بن أيوب), or simply Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Arabic: صلاح الدين الأيوبي)

[Note that "Salah al-Din" is one name, not a first name and surname]

Saladin is the commander of the Muslim armies and lands arrayed against the invading Richard the Lionhearted, and never makes a direct appearance in the game. He is, however, referenced frequently by other characters, and his forces are engaged with Richards during the battle of Arsuf.

Many people preach about Saladin in Jerusalem and Damascus. Oddly enough thy all speak in th same gruff voice.
One of the nine people Al Mualim wants Altair to assassinate.

He is the Merchant King of Damascus and the richest man in the city. Abul is known for throwing lavish parties, and surrounding himself with riches and works of art. He despises the poor with a passion and believes they are responsible for everything that's wrong with the world; however, he also despises himself for being "different". Abul is rarely seen in public, usually only to deliver a speech before one of his parties. Of course, this provided the perfect window of opportunity to get close to the man...

Although he runs when you try to assassinate him he pulls out a sword and fights you when Al Mualim creates an illusion of your 9 assassination targets with the Piece of Eden. It looks quite funny as Abul is extremely fat.

Vigilantes are groups of men that will aid you if you find yourself being chased through a city. If you are being chased and you enter into an area with vigilantes in it, they will step in and impede the way of the guards who are trying to chase you. You can unlock Vigilantes throughout cities in the game by saving female Citizens that you find who are in trouble with the guards.

They will grab guards, knock them over, rough them up a bit. Whatever it takes to get them off your back while you run away and make a clean getaway. Alternatively you can use them to stop the guards from defending themselves giving you a quick and easy kill. If a large number of guards are chasing you, you can use them to block a few of the men whilst you deal with the rest.
