The Pazzi Conspiracy was an attempt by the Pazzi Family, who was under the influence of the Templar Order, to remove the House of Medici from power in the city of Florence. Led by Rodrigo Borgia, the coup brought Florence into a brief period of civil war, and nearly taking the life of the city's ruler, Lorenzo Medici.
Reunion
Ezio returns to Florence after two years of absence. He quickly made his way to Leonardo da Vinci's workshop, bringing with him the Codex pages Leonardo was fascinated with. Warmly greeted by Leonardo, Ezio hands the Codex pages to him. As expected, he was able to decipher the page, but only the first. He learns that the page contained new techniques for assassinations and silencing soldiers in several ways.

Leonardo instructs Ezio to practice these new techniques on the small terrace beside his workshop while he deciphers the other page. He instructs his assistant to set up some dummies for training. Ezio agrees to this, and practices the new techniques on the dummies, learning to strike from above, under ledges, and also in hiding places.

Ezio, successful in performing the new methods of assassination, returns to Leonardo, where he is handed a new Hidden Blade, constructed using the Codex page. Before leaving, Ezio tells Leonardo that he is looking for someone, but remarks that he cannot approach this someone publicly. He asks Leonardo if he knows a way to get close, but was quickly silenced before he could say anything else, as if someone was watching. He mentions the name "La Volpe", and tells him that "The Fox" usually dwells in the market not far from Leonardo's workshop.

Telling Ezio to look for La Volpe there, the two bid each other farewell and good fortune, as Leonardo prepares to return to his work, while Ezio leaves for the market.

The Fox and The Eagle
Ezio searches the marketplace, in hopes of finding La Volpe, but as he looked on, however, his money pouch was stolen by a thief. Giving chase to the pickpocket, Ezio manages to catch up with the thief in a secluded area near the harbor. Telling the thief that he has no intention of taking his life, Ezio asks for his money back to call it even.

As he asked the thief, he is suddenly greeted by another figure. Ezio asks the man who he is, to which the man replies that he bore many names, but his most famous moniker is La Volpe, the name Leonardo mentioned earlier. Ezio asks how he knew his name, and replies that it is his job to know everything about Florence. Ezio, doubting the man's appearance, asks him if he holds information on the whereabouts of Francesco de' Pazzi.

La Volpe replies that he has heard talk from a caravan that came from Rome, that there is a secret meeting within the Santa Maria Novella. Ezio asks him if he knew a way inside the Novella, to which he replies that he did; an old passage through some old catacombs underneath the Novella. Ezio then asks if he can take him to the location of the secret entrance, to which he says yes. La Volpe instructs him to meet him by the harbor when he is ready to come with, and after doing so, returns Ezio the money stolen from him by one of his men. After this, they proceed to meet up by the harbor.

Meeting by the harbor, La Volpe instructs Ezio to follow him on top of the rooftop. After doing so, La Volpe quickly fled, mockingly telling Ezio to catch up. Trudging the rooftops, Ezio and Volpe raced each other to the Novella, away from the eyes of the people of Florence. After a short run, Ezio and Volpe arrive by the side of the Novella. Volpe tells him where the entrance is; located at the wall by the small terrace on the side of the Novella was a small mechanism. Volpe tells him that if he retracts the mechanism, it will unlock the secret passage, paving Ezio the way into the catacomb.

Ezio thanks Volpe for his assistance as he leaves the area, bidding Ezio good luck. After this, Ezio does what he was instructed; retracting the mechanism and opening the entrance, Ezio quietly makes his way into the catacombs.
Meeting in the Shadows
Ezio makes his way into the catacombs, and proceeds to move in further. Activating the old mechanisms still functioning in the catacombs, and dealing with the guards stationed by the Pazzi, Ezio manages to locate the meeting place of the Templars, secluded in a small area that was out of Ezio's reach, with only a small light to guide both the Templars and Ezio's sight. Seeing the Templar men, Ezio eavesdrops on the meeting.

He overhears a prayer being proclaimed by a priest, and as it ends, The group asks a man dressed in red what of the equipment. The man tells them that all of the equipment were present, claiming that their men will want for nothing. One of them asks if it was consents from the pope. Rodrigo tells them that the Pope gave his blessing on the operation, so long as no one is killed. Francesco de' Pazzi then speaks, assuring Borgia and everyone at the meeting that the they are prepared to strike at the Duomo, remarking that it wasn't easy due to the fact that Lorenzo's brother, Giuliano de' Medici keeps changing the plans.

Rodrigo notices Jacopo de' Pazzi's unusual behavior, and when asked if he was worried about the possibility of the Medici suspecting anything, he was interrupted by Francesco, claiming that the Medici are too stupid and arrogant. Jacopo quickly reprimanded him, stating that they should not underestimate their enemies, and mentions the fact that his son was killed because of this. Francesco reassures all of the Templar men that no such thing will happen. Rodrigo then tells them to make due of their promise, as he must attend to his business in Rome. After this, they bid each other farewell, as they prepare for their operation. Ezio, after taking the Assassin's Seal from the catacombs, makes his way out of the Novella.

Arriving on the harbor through the small passage at the sewers, Ezio meets up with La Volpe, and discussed the words spoken by the Templars at the meeting. He makes mention that their plans involve the Medici, and that they plan to do it at the Duomo at Sunday. He also remarks that The Pope has given them support. La Volpe was not surprised by the fact of the Pope giving support, remarking it to be a typical behavior. He suddenly remembers that the Medici will be at the Duomo for Sunday Service, along with the rest of Florence. He then realizes that the Pazzi plan to initiate an attack on the Medici at High Mass, suspecting their intentions to be taking over Florence.

La Volpe, heavily concerned of Ezio's discovery, warns him that if he fails to stop the Pazzi's attack, control over Florence will shift over to the Pazzi, thus putting the lives of the citizens in ruins. Ezio reassures him that it will never come to that. Bidding La Volpe goodbye, Ezio leaves to stop the Pazzi's plans.
Attack at the Duomo
Arriving at the Duomo, Ezio blends with the crowd as he looks for Francesco de' Pazzi. As he did, he sees the Medici arrive at the Duomo. He sees Lorenzo Medici make his way to the doorsteps of the Duomo along wit his mistress. As he did, his brother Giuliano made his way to the Duomo, along with his mistress. It was during this time that Francesco de' Pazzi and the man in red from the meeting appear before the crowd. Before Ezio could act, The man in red slashed Giuliano's neck, causing him to bleed. As Giuliano tried to flee, he was stopped by Francesco.

Lorenzo sees his brother being assaulted, and as he tried to come to his aid, he was stabbed by two priests behind, both are the ones who attended the meeting. Giuliano, pinned to the ground, begged for mercy to Francesco. Enraged Giuliano was violently stabbed by Francesco, denying him of any mercy, stabbing him repeatedly even after death. All the while, Lorenzo fends off his attackers, and prepares to defend himself from the Pazzi guard. Leaving the dagger stabbed to the corpse of Giuliano, Francesco draws his sword, then proceeds to attack Lorenzo.

Planning to stop the attack, Ezio steps in to defend Lorenzo. Fending off both the guards and Francesco, Ezio then comes to the aid of Lorenzo. Thanking him for his assistance, Lorenzo then asks Ezio to help him get back to his home in one piece, to which Ezio agrees. Making their way to Lorenzo's home, they see the people rioting over the attack, with the Medici and Pazzi guards at each other's throats. As they moved, Lorenzo shouted with rage that he will erase Francesco and his family from the pages of history after the family's actions. Ezio tells him to save his strength, or else he'll be delivering a body.

Ezio and Lorenzo managed to make their way at the doorsteps of Lorenzo's house. After one of the Medici guards opened the door, Ezio and Lorenzo made their way inside. Ezio, before leaving, was asked by Lorenzo about why he saved his life. He tells him that he was not the only one who lost a brother to the Pazzi. Introducing himself as Ezio Auditore, Lorenzo knew right away that he was the son of Giovanni, telling the boy that his father was a good man.

Just then, another guard of the Medici arrive, reporting to them that the city is in chaos because of the Pazzi's actions. He tells them that the Pazzi plan to assault the officials at the Palazzo della Signoria and then put their own men into power. Seeing this as a major threat, Lorenzo tries to recover his strength so that he may take matter into his own hand. Instructing Lorenzo to rest, Ezio tells them that he will handle the Pazzi in the name of the Medici. All of them agrees to this, and lets Ezio put an end to the Pazzi. Ezio then leaves for the Palazzo.

Chaos at the Signoria
Ezio makes his way to the Signoria, and sees the courtyard in chaos, with both Medici and Pazzi guards fighting each other. Francesco, standing at the balcony, sees Ezio alive and well. Francesco then instructs his men to tighten their security at the balcony. Ezio quietly made his way to Francesco from behind the Signoria, silencing any guard that stood in his way, and eventually made it. Confronted by Ezio, Francesco let out a desperate cry for help, but Ezio remarks that no one will be coming. Francesco, while cursing Ezio, jumps down from the balcony and on to a small bale of flower petals. Ezio then follows him, and after giving chase to Francesco, catches up with him and then proceeds to finish him off.

Speaking words of respect to Francesco as he drew his last breath, Ezio takes the body to the top of the Signoria. As he did, the citizens of Florence rally at the terrace of the Signoria, demanding liberty. Jacopo came on horseback to rally the people further, chanting liberty along with the crowd. As he did, however, the body of Francesco was then hung at the top of the Signoria, with no clothes to cover his body other than his underwear. The crowd then sees a group of people chanting triumphantly, and along with them was Ezio, who watched it all transpire in the shadows. Jacopo, shocked of what he saw, immediately fled as the citizens look on in horror. After this, Ezio leaves the scene as the people near him continue to chant, and as the people below him continue to look on in horror.

Family History
Ezio meets up with Lorenzo Medici at the bridge where he fought Vieri de' Pazzi. It is there, that Lorenzo tells him of the event that transpired there; he fell into the river when he was a young boy. Unable to swim, the strong waters continue to push Lorenzo further away from land. Almost certain that his life was at its end, he soon fell into unconsciousness. However he awoke at the sight of his mother weeping by his side. Beside him stood a man, soaked in water, smiling at him. It is there that a friendship began between the Medici and the Auditore families.

Ezio then asks Lorenzo what of Jacopo and the other conspirators. Lorenzo tells him that all of them fled before they could be arrested. Ezio then asks him if he could give the names of the other conspirators to narrow the search down. Lorenzo tells him the following names; Bernardo di Bandino Baroncelli, Stefano da Bagnone, Antonio Maffei, and Archbishop Francesco Salviati. Ezio thanks him for this, but before he could leave, Lorenzo gives him another Codex page, taken from the files of Francesco de' Pazzi as a gift. He remarks that he and Giovanni were always interested with things of antiquity. After receiving this, Ezio and Lorenzo bid their farewells, as the two part ways.

After handing Leonardo the Codex, and receiving a new addition to his arsenal, Ezio returns to Monteriggioni to seek help from his uncle, Mario, and also to deliver the deciphered Codex Pages.

Search for the Conspirators
Upon returning to Monteriggioni, Ezio hands Mario the Codex Pages deciphered by Leonardo. He sees a statement written along the line of the supposed message reading, "Only the Prophet may deliver open it". Thinking this to be incomplete, Mario asks Ezio to collect the other pages, to which he disagrees, for he has other business to attend to. Stating that his next mission was to be in San Gimignano, Ezio asks his uncle for help in finding the conspirators against the Medici.

He agrees, and as he instructed his men to look for the conspirators at the other half of Tuscany, Mario trains Ezio further in combat at Monteriggioni. After successfully doing so, Ezio and Mario receive word from one of the Mercenaries that they have located one of the conspirators. Wasting no time, Ezio quickly leaves for San Gimignano.

His journey there spanned a year and a half, searching and hunting for the Pazzi Conspirators. All the while, learning more of the location of the head of the Pazzi family, Jacopo de' Pazzi.
The Town Crier
Mario's men first locates the monk, Antonio Maffei, preaching to the citizens of San Gimignano of the actions of Lorenzo de' Medici, claiming him to be the equivalent of the devil, from atop of the tower at the center of the city. The mercenary warns Ezio of the Archers posted from the other towers, surrounding the center. Ezio takes this warning seriously, and proceeds to scale the towers, cautious of his surrounding.

Ezio takes out the archers posted, all the while, Antonio preaches the Templar's propaganda, telling the people of San Gimignano from atop the tower that they must repent their ways in order to free themselves of the Medici's influence, and also to free them of their ignorance. Wasting no more time, Ezio scales the tower and confronts Maffei. Even though the monk had guards stationed beside him for protection, they proved no match, as Ezio was able to dispatch them, along with Maffei.

Angrily, Maffei told Ezio to back off, fearing his presence beside him. Ezio tells him to have some respect for death. After speaking words of respect for his foe, Ezio witnessed Antonio draw his last breath, dying at the top of the tower before he could ask him anything.

He takes from the body a letter meant for the Spaniard, Rodrigo Borgia, begging for forgiveness, for he is unable to attend to their meeting, due to his intense fear of the assassin. Learning nothing from Maffei, Ezio drops down from the tower, and proceeds to search for the others.

The Archbishop of Pisa
By 1479, Ezio lears that the mercenaries have located another one of the conspirators, and rides for the countryside. Meeting in a nearby village, A Mercenary informs Ezio that the Archbishop of Pisa, Francesco Salviati, found refuge in his personal villa. The Mercenary gives Ezio command over a few of his men, for the villa is heavily protected by the guards of the Pazzi. With this, Ezio prepares to move, with Mercenaries beside him.

Disposing the guards that stood in their way, Ezio climbs the gates of the villa, all the while hearing Salviati's warnings not to come any closer. Ezio successfully climbs the gate, and is greeted by the sight of a battalion of guards patrolling the area. Leaving the mercenaries behind to deal with the guards outside, Ezio moves in, and successfully assassinates Salviati.

Before dying, Ezio asks Salviati for Jacopo's location, and learns that Jacopo only emerges out of the darkness to meet with the other Templars. Ezio asked for the location, but he received no answer, for Salviati drew his last breath before he could reveal anything else. Dealing with the guards that patrolled the area, Ezio leaves the villa to search for the other conspirators.

The Fearful Banker
Returning to the city of San Gimignano, Ezio learns from another one of Mario's men that they have learned the location of the banker, Bernardo di Bandino Baroncelli. From the mercenary, Ezio learns that he was already captured by the Medici after returning from Constantinople, but managed to escape, fleeing to San Gimignano. Ezio, thanking the mercenary for the information, quickly leaves to search for Baroncelli.

He sees Baroncelli, surrounded by guards of the Pazzi. Ezio overhears the banker's mumblings, trying to be optimistic in the face of uncertain danger. He tries to think of the possibilities that favor his side, and as he did, Ezio moves even closer to Baroncelli. He sees Ezio from afar, and out of fear, quickly flees the marketplace. Ezio gives chase, trying to catch Baroncelli as the guards tried to catch him.

After catching up with Baroncelli, Ezio finishes off the banker. Asking for Jacopo's location, Baroncelli tells Ezio that the Templars gather a church once a meeting is called. After speaking words of respect, Ezio leaves the scene, and proceeds to locate the last of the conspirators.

The False Monk
Ezio learns the location of the last of the conspirators; the monk Stefano da Bagnone. Meeting with a mercenary near the Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Ezio learns that Stefano was currently at an abbey, along with his fellow monks. The mercenary hands Ezio some Smoke Bombs that can assist him in his escape. With this, Ezio prepares to move in.

Ezio, learning that some guards are disguised as monks, moved in the abbey with caution. As he blended with the crowd, he overhears a conversation between Stefano and a fellow monk. Stefano reprimands the monk for believing the words written in the Bible and the existence of a madman at the sky (referring to God). The monk was shocked to hear such words of blasphemy from Stefano, to which he replies that he is only part of them to hide from the assassin.

Seeing an opportunity, Ezio assassinates Stefano in front of the monks. Before dying, Ezio, yet again, asks for Jacopo's location. Stefano reveals that they met "in the shadow of the Roman Gods". Ezio then takes a letter from the body, but before he could read it any further, guards arrive at the abbey, prepared to fight Ezio. Using his new tool for an easy escape, Ezio leaves the countryside, and returns to San Gimignano.

The End of the Pazzi
Ezio learns from the letter that there will be a meeting between the Templars at the church by the countryside. By 1480, Ezio finally locates Jacopo de' Pazzi, who was at the city of San Gimignano. Wasting no time, Ezio proceeds to tail him, in hopes of learning more of the Templar's plans. Following him outside of the city, he sees him enter the Antico Teatro Romano, which was heavily guarded by soldiers of the Templars. Ezio sneaks in without being detected, and proceeds to eavesdrop at the meeting.

He sees Rodrigo Borgia, who was furious of the failure of the Pazzi to end the rule of the Medici, and also by the fact that Ezio managed to dispose their other Templar brothers. Jacopo, trying to reason with Borgia, blamed Francesco's impatience to end the Medici's rule, and claims that he tried to be the voice of reason. Just then, a man, who appeared to be from Venice, reprimanded Jacopo, claiming that their failure was due to his cowardice. Jacopo was quick to answer, calling the offerings of the Venetian, the armaments used in the conspiracy, to be rubbish and practically useless.

Borgia, wanting to hear no more from Jacopo, angrily reprimands him for his behavior, that instead of action, he has given nothing but excuses and reasons. And by the fact that he insults the other members of the Templar, when he himself has yet to prove anything to them. Borgia asks Jacopo what does he expect them to do next, to which he replies that he simply did not know. Borgia then mockingly reassures him that he knew what will happen next, and then proceeds to stab him at the chest.

Jacopo, who was twitching and faltering weakly, was then stabbed by the Venetian, causing him to fall to the ground, graveling at the dirt. Begging for mercy, Jacopo weakly asks Borgia for mercy, claiming that he can fix his wrongdoings him he is spared. Borgia denied him any mercy, and proceeds to stab him by the neck with his sword. Borgia then calls out Ezio, whose presence he suspected and felt. Telling the guards to finish the boy off, Borgia leaves the Teatro along with the Venetian, leaving Jacopo near-death.

Disposing of the guards that held him back, and the guards that surrounded the Teatro, Ezio ends Jacopo's misery, and proceeds to finish him off with his Hidden Blade. After speaking words of respect to Jacopo, Ezio leaves Tuscany, and heads for Florence to report his success to Lorenzo de' Medici.

Aftermath
After the fall of the Pazzi family, control over San Gimignano assimilated over to the Medici, thus gaining governance even more power. Ezio, informing Lorenzo of his success, receives from him the Medici Cape as a reward from Lorenzo. Ezio informs him that his next task was to be in Venice after learning from the letter Jacopo wrote that there are more of the Templar Conspirators stationed there. Bidding Ezio good luck, Lorenzo lets the boy attend to his duties, as the boy leaves the Palazzo Medici.

Before leaving the city, Ezio tried to meet up with Leonardo, but learns that he is on the way to Venice. Wasting no time, Ezio leaves to meet up with Leonardo.

A Gondola is a type of small boat, used across Italy, but most famously in Venice. It is designed with a longer left-hand side, which allows gondoliers to row it without changing the side the oar is on. They are one of the vehicles available for Ezio's use in Assassin's Creed II.
Trivia
* Gondolas can be found everywhere except for Tuscany.
* A second, more opulent gondola model is used in a mission in Venice; this gondola only appears once.
* The six notches on the front of the gondola represent Venice's six districts.
* They're some gondolas covered with cloth, though you can't use them to move around. They can be looted for some florins, though the money you receive is less then what you would get if you looted a treasure chest (you receive 100 florins).
* If you get on an occupied gondola, the person on it will automatically jump off and drown.
Borgia Messengers, also known as Borgia Couriers, appear in the game Assassin's Creed II. Upon spotting Ezio, the messengers take flight, performing many free-run actions and acrobatic stunts, such as climbing walls and swinging from posts. If Ezio manages to catch up to one, he can tackle him or simply throw a Throwing Knife at him for a considerable amount of Florins, with about 1500 florins per messenger. However, if Ezio kills one, his notoriety will automatically increase by 50%. However, Ezio can still get the 1503 florins if he loots the messenger. If caught, the Courier begs for his life. After being attacked or left alone a few moments, the Courier will resume his free-running.

Presumably, the Messengers carry important information or funds for Rodrigo Borgia, as they are called Borgia Messengers. Or he could be carrying payment to some official or ally, explaining the 1503 Florins in his poessession.

Interestingly, Archers begin chasing the messenger as well if he climbs onto a rooftop in his flight. Which is rather ironic as they often call for the guards to help during the chase. It has also been shown that you can trip Borgia messengers so that they fall to their death without being penalized for it.

If you intercept one of them, you get the Achievement/Trophy "Mailman" (10G)

Unlike Pickpockets, who have a red icon, Borgia messengers are invisible on your map, although you can often find them at city entrances and they are pointed out by a silver chevron.
For some reason the Couriers often move rather slowly when on flat ground directly after a free-run up the side of a building. They can easily be taken down by a well-aimed throwing knife during these periods.

It should be noted that the Borgian Messengers most often carry 1503 florins. This might have something to do with the fact that Rodrigo Borgia died in 1503.

In the Assassin's Creed series, fists are the weakest form of fighting available to the player. Guards will not intervene with a fistfight, unless the player is attacking a guard. However, if the player draws a weapon they will attack.

Assassin's Creed
Altaïr's fists are also the only weapon he can use to interrogate a target without killing or causing them to run, even though the target is always assassinated once Altaïr has his information. When attempting to pickpocket a thug for throwing knives, if he notices Altaïr stealing from him, he may start a fist fight. You can choose to punch back, or you can draw one of your swords and he will immediately flee. The latter will attract the attention of nearby guards if you don't put it away immediately. As weak as fists are they are your only weapon available as a novice. You shouldn't get used to them, as you are only a novice for one mission. At any time, you may use fists to knock out or incapacitate guards.

Assassin's Creed II
In Assassin's Creed II, the main character Ezio is more skilled in a fistfight. He can perform combos, as well as being able to counter other fistfighters. He may also Disarm those with weapons and use them against opponents, if he has learned the Disarm skill. The special attack while unarmed is to lean down and sweep some sand into the opponent's eyes, opening the weaker enemies to an instant kill. Similarly, if your opponent has sufficiently low health, it is possible to perform an instant kill if you can get behind them.

Fists also become a more viable weapon when the Metal Cestus, a hard steel handguard that strengthens the attack of the fists, becomes available for purchase from Blacksmiths.

You can earn yourself the achievement/trophy, Messer Sandman, which is worth 10G or a Bronze trophy, by using the sand throwing move on 4 guards at once.

Players should be aware that picking up a body will cause the game to switch automatically back to Ezio's fists. Also, while carrying a body, guards will automatically attack you on sight regardless of Notoriety. Also, if you successfully disarm a guard and keep using his weapon after you kill him, the icon at the bottom left hand of the screen will be the fist icon.

Despite seemingly lethal actions, (like snapping or stomping on a hostiles neck) the person will appear to be in a subdued state and will not be listed as a kill, enabling Ezio to kill civilians. However, during assassinations, these lethal actions do count as a kill to the assassination target. In addition, picking up someone in a subdued state and dropping them at least 1 story will stop their writhing around and they will be no different than a corpse. However, you will still not be penalised for doing it to a civilian.
Very little information is known about La Volpe, and any that is seems mythical. He is said to have robbed the Papal carriage without any guards noticing him, including the Pope who was obviously sitting inside. One night in 1467, Florence he was seen on the rooftops of the Palazzo della Signoria, the Palazzo Medici, and Santa Croce, all at the same time. It is also said that he is an immortal and can see through buildings, perusing the contents inside.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze first met him in Florence when he was seeking a way to get close to Francesco de' Pazzi. Ezio's money was stolen by a thief, whom lead him to La Volpe. La Volpe introduced himself, and knew Ezio's name before he could say anything. He claimed that it was his "business" to know everything that happens in Florence. He told Ezio about where Francesco de' Pazzi and the other Pazzi conspirators would meet, and lead him to the Santa Maria Novella. La Volpe explained the catacombs that run underneath the city and instructed Ezio the entrance to the underground area. After Ezio explored the catacombs, La Volpe expressed his concern of the Pazzi's plot to attack the Medici during High Mass, however Ezio assured it's prevention.

During the Bonfire of the Vanities, he along with Paola were contacted by Niccolò Machiavelli to help liberate the areas controlled by Girolamo Savonarola's lieutenants. After Savonarola's death, he left the area along with Ezio and the other assassins.

In 1499, La Volpe met with the assassins to unveil the location of the Vault and helped to distract Rodrigo Borgia's men from the Sistine Chapel.

Trivia
*In the database files, it claims that La Volpe is only his pseudonym, as there is no record of his actual name. However, in the novel Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, he called himself "Gilberto," but prefers to be known as "La Volpe."
** His real name is the Italian derivative of Gilbert, meaning "bright pledge."
** The reason for this was said to be because only a fox can match his cunning.
*When it is said that he can see through buildings, this ability of his was likely used around the time Ezio tries to hunt down Francesco de' Pazzi. This skill may be an advanced form of Eagle Vision which means one of his ancesters was one of Those Who Came Before.
*His eyes are coloured violet.
*He is shown using the butcher's knife as his weapon.

Assassination Contracts are contracts sent by Lorenzo de' Medici to Ezio to assassinate key people responsible for certain nefarious deeds. Ezio finds these contracts in pigeon cages, similar to the way Al Mualim sends them. These contracts are acquired in the same order regardless of which cage was chosen.

Florence
Day at the Market
Lorenzo explains that there is a plot to cut off Florence's supply line, which can be prevented by assassinating a merchant located in the San Marco district. It is relatively simple, as he is standing next to an Art Merchant. Use Eagle Vision to detect him easily. Remember that there is an Elite Guard near one of the entrances of the corridor that leads to the target.

Fallen Archers
Several Pazzi Archers were spotted attacking the Palazzo della Signoria, tracked down to the San Marco district, the largest district in Florence. There are 3 of them and they are spread out quite thinly, so it may take a while to reach them. You can choose open combat or stealthy assassination to take them out.

Political Suicide
Lorenzo claims that a member of the Signoria was working with the Pazzi to turn the tide against the Medici. They are meeting in a pass, therefore, concealed from rooftops. Each side is guarded by 4 guards. It is best to hire some Courtesans or Thieves to distract the guards (using Mercenaries will result in desynchroniation) and use some of them to conceal you from your target. You cannot be detected by him or his companion or you will be desynchronized.

Caveat Emptor
It seems that a member of the Salvucci family who helped smuggle enemies into Florence has been sighted. Find the target and kill him without being detected. He has one guard following him.

Meeting Adjourned
Several enemies are planning a meeting in the city; you have to tail the only known lead and then kill all those affiliated. Tail him and he'll walk into a heavily guarded room. Your number of targets increases as you have to kill all those responsible. It is simplest to toss a Smoke Bomb and start assassinating everyone. Be careful, the lead is a quick walker and one of the targets may start fleeing in the chaos.

Needle in a Haystack
Lorenzo remarks that we are so close to eliminating all those responsible for the attack on Florence. One of the conspirators have been spotted near the Santa Maria Novella. The target will be in one of the courtyards within the area. It appears to be entirely random as to which garden he appears in. It is recommended you search from the roofs and use Eagle Vision to detect him, if he detects you, you will be desynchronized.

Peacekeeper
A contingent of traitorous guards are planning to march to Lorenzo's palazzo, Ezio has to kill them before they start a riot. The timer only starts once you have sighted them. They are just west of the bridge, where the guards are composed of 10 Brutes. It is easy to dispatch of them by tossing a Smoke Bomb and assassinating or poisoning everyone.

Leader of the Pack
Several condotierri who attacked Lorenzo's palazzo are regrouping; Ezio has to tail one of them to their garrison and kill their leader. First things first, make sure you're full on Smoke Bombs. Find the target, then tail him for awhile. As you tail him, more and more guards will start to follow him. You will get to some alley entrance that's guarded. There should be some Courtesans nearby, hire them to distract the guards then run into the garden area that's full of enemies. Smoke Bombs and the Hidden Blade should finish this. Otherwise, you can bypass the guards by climbing up the walls and Air Assassinating the guard leader. It doesn't take much to get the majority of guards fleeing.

Tuscany
Reap What You Sow
One of the benefactors of the Pazzi has been found in a farm East of San Gimignano. First go the View Point located conveniently near your target, then perform a Leap of Faith into the hay below. This cart of hay is also conveniently placed adjacent to your target, so assassinate him from the Hiding Spot. If he spots you if because you did not follow the aforementioned strategy, he will run away from you, but you can still catch up and kill him.

Don’t Get Your Hands Dirty
There are 4 guards who want Lorenzo dead. Your task is to have these guards killed without appearing to have killed them yourself. It fairly easy because three of the guards are on towers. Simply, climb up to the top of the tower, grab them and throw them over the edge to their death.
The fourth guard is in the market at ground level, you can poison him and wait, kill him with your fists, (even though he still writhes on the ground he counts as being dead) hire the nearby mercenaries to kill him, or throw him into the nearby drying rack.

Supply In Demand
A local guild leader has been supplying the Pazzi with arms. Your task is to tail one of his men to find him then kill him. After tailing the member, simply assassinate the leader while running to him.

Flee Market
There are several conspirators who plot against Florence. Make your way toward the area and dispatch of the Archers first to avoid being detected. Then, perform a Leap of Faith from the pigeon marker into the cart of leaves. After this, double-assassinate them. For best results, hire some Thieves to attack the Archers instead, diverting the guards' attention to them, then assassinate both of the targets. There is a bug with this mission, at least on the PC. You must kill the two conspirators before they leave the restricted area. If you let them escape across the rooftops (they are Agiles and very good at outrunning/climbing you) and then later catch up and kill them, the mission will be left incomplete, forcing you to abort the memory and try again. You do not have to double-assassinate the targets for the mission to succeed, but you must kill them before they leave the area marked red on the map, which makes this a very frustrating mission.

Vertical Slice
There are several Borgia soldiers in the vicinity who may be planning a Coup. Your task is to kill them without being seen, as Rodrigo Borgia might use your involvement as an excuse for a war. Use Ezio's ledge and Hiding Spot assassinations to its fullest as most of the targets are archers. If possible, observe the enemies' movements to get a look at how to assassinate them efficiently.

No Camping
There are enemies who have gathered in camps around the city. Kill their leaders as quick as possible. You have 5 minutes to do so. Go to each area whilst air assassinating the leaders. Fighting the leaders is possible, however they are accompanied by many guards in the vicinity. Note that it is almost impossible to do this without a horse, as the targets are so far away from each other.

Showtime
One of the people responsible for hiring the condotierri who attacked Florence has been spotted. He regularly takes a walk around the countryside, ambush him in the Ancient Roman Theater. Tail the target to the Theater, then approach him from the opposite side of the landmark to avoid conflict with the guards as much as possible. He keeps two Brutes close and will flee to the center of the theater if he sees you.

Romagna
Thin The Ranks
Kill six guards. There are six guards posted in pairs, on three different locations in the city. Double assassinations are easily made, or you can kill them in an open battle.

Beginnings of a Conspiracy
Some of Girlamo Riarios men broke in to the Palazzo Pitti and stolen a valuable map. Ezio needs to kill these three men wihtout getting spotted. First make sure you are filled up with poison, kill the guard close to the fountain using mercenaries, then walk towards the target one the left side of the map, poison him. make your way to the last one and assassinate with the hidden blades or Pistol before he or his bodyguard detect you.

Arch Enemies
Some Borgia archers has to be taken care of, and fast. Ten archers posted on the roofs of the buildings on the edge of the river, you got two minutes to clear the roofs. The Throwing Knives works perfectly for this job, free run between the houses and kill all the archers on the way. You can get nearby guards to chase you to get the

Wet Work
A boat has been seen scouting for a suitable place for an attack. Kill the captain. First make your way to the boat either swimming or taking a gondola. Taking out the guards in the smaller boats will make this task easier. When ready sneak abord the boat and kill the captain. Smokebombs and ledge assassinations can be used with great profit.

Dead On Arrival
Kill the courier before he leaves. He is located not far from the pidgeon coop and can be easily killed with throwing knifes. Remember, he will flee on sight, and the adjacent archers (as well as a Leader and an Agile) will attempt to hinder you.

Go Towards The Light
You need to kill the guard at the lighthouse. Keep the Guards outside the lighthouse busy using the mercenaries not far from there (or swim around them), then make your way top the top of the lighthouse and assassinate him.

Mark And Execute
You must kill the one who captured one of Lorenzo's spies without being detected. Make your way towards the target, make sure you are filled up with throwing knives, poison and smokebombs just in case since this is quite tricky. First, kill the archers on the roof, then double assassinate him and his bodyguard (you can do it from the air). If you're looking for a challenge, you can clear the whole area of guards (which is quite tricky for the inexperienced, there is a lot of normal guards, two archers, and at least one Seeker and Brute to deal with). However there is an archway you can use to sneak behind the target and kill him as the spy leads him in front of it and you can sneak through and kill him the archway is unguarded.

Venice
Thicker Than Water
A gondolier will lead you to your target. First make your way to the gondolier alternative using a gondola to get there. Then follow the gondolier to your target best way should be via the buildings be carefull though if your spotted your doomed. when you have made your way to the real target, you can swim behind the boat and end him with a ledge assassination.

Zero Tolerance
A family friend of Lorenzo is being harassed by a merchant wihtout an end, kill him without her noticing. First make sure you have throwing knifes and poison, Then find the target, this part could be a little tricky since they are running around the area. When you find them stay blended until your are behind that man then kill him any way you would like. Poison is easy since it wont get you in any trouble with guards that will be in the vicinity. Or you can assassinate from a hiding spot.

Blade in the Crowd
The Doge has decided to send several trusted administrators to rouse the populace in Florence. They are supposed to meet with the Doge shortly. Find and kill them before the meeting without alerting them to your presence. Find the three targets within the green circles, they are quite near you. There is a 3 minute countdown. It's probably better to kill all three with poison.

Honorable Thief
One of Lorenzo's connections uncovered a plot to destroy the Venetian branch of the Medici bank. Meet his informant, a nimble thief, and follow him to the target's location. Then kill the target. The informant is to the north of St. Mark's Square. Be wary, there will be many archers that will oppose you before the end.

No Laughing Matter
There are three harlequins that are actually co-conspirators of Archbishop Salviati. They have already been marked and identified for you. One is in the open and should be dealt with via an air assassination. The two others are in guarded locations. The best way to deal with them both is to let them run out away from the guards so you can chase and kill them. All of them will flee if they catch a glimpse of you.
Crash a Party
One of Francesco De`Pazzi`s cousins are throwing a party.tail one of the guests to his location and assassinate him. Tailing the guest is simple enough if you aren`t notorious. When you come to a guarde entrance, climb the buildings. As the party is being held in a restricted area, can`t be seen on the ground. Your target is close to some Gondolas, making for a quick and easy mistake.
False Legacy
A Venetian Condottiero (a Brute, actually) is forcing artists to depict him as a war hero. This job will be quite difficult as he is surrounded by Elite Guards, though he is easy to distinguish. Use the Hidden Pistol for a quick (but loud) kill or hire the nearby Mercenaries to distract them
Hunting the Hunter
This mission is the last contract you recieve. Your first task is to kill a marked target (an Agile). A single shot from the Pistol will finish it. After that, loot the body and head to the designated coordinates. Approach the person in front of the fountain. Afterwards, a Venetian Agile and some Medici Leader Guards ambush you. Killing the Agile will finish the mission and make the other Guards dissappear.

Trivia
*During Sequence 14 and the free-roaming sequence, these contracts are still playable even though Lorenzo is already dead.
*Interestingly, in Hunting the Hunter：
**the other guards are bearing Medici colours.
**if you loot the scarecrow target afterwards, it'll yield a key, but key for what is unknown.

Romagna
Don’t Get Your Hands Dirty
There are 4 guards who want Lorenzo dead. Your task is to have these guards killed without appearing to have killed them yourself. It fairly easy because three of the guards are on towers. Simply, climb up to the top of the tower, grab them and throw them over the edge to their death.
he fourth guard is in the market at ground level, you can poison him and wait, hire the nearby mercenaries to kill him, or throw him into the nearby drying rack.
