Trivia
*Malfatto is most likely based off of Jack the Ripper, a well known serial killer that preyed on prostitutes in impoverished areas of London around the year 1888. The removal of internal organs from his victims led many to believe that Jack was a doctor or possessed surgical knowledge.
*Malfatto is an Italian surname that may derive from the Italian word malfattore or "someone who does evil deeds."
*Oddly enough the only trace of Malfatto in history are reports of a masked doctor sighted near the Rosa in Fiore brothel
Ubisoft stated that he will make an appearance in the single player mode of Brotherhood along with the other multiplayer characters.

In Project Legacy it is revealed that he partnered with Fiora Cavazza to investigate the assassins. Though he failed to tail his prey he was able to observe his technique, clothing, and hidden blade and took notes eagerly.

Later, when Fiora turned on Cesare and allied with the Assassins he was able to outwit his hunters using a variety of traps. However he was intrigued by Fiora's decision and offered to make a deal with her.

Unique moves
The Straight Shave
The barber strikes his target's stomach, causing the target to fall to his/her knees. He then holds their chin, causing the neck to extend, takes out his razor and slices the target's throat. The target then falls to the ground, dead.

The Cut-Throat Razor
The barber fluidly side steps in front of his target as he delivers a lethal slash with his razor to the neck.

The Double Swipe
As he walks towards his target, the barber swiftly pulls out his razor and delivers a double slice to the neck, effectively ending their life.
Trivia
*The barber bears a certain resemblance to Johnny Depp's portrayal of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. They both kill people with razors, and have black hair with streaks of white in them.
*He was originally called the Butcher.
*His surname, "de Silva," means "of the forest," which is possibly a reason for his emerald green apparel.
*He also bears a striking resemblance to Gangs of New Yorks' Bill "The Butcher" Cutting.

The Courtesan (real name: Fiora Cavazza) is a multiplayer character in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. She uses a bladed fan as her primary weapon. Her abilities include Smoke Bombs, the Power Charge, the Morph and the Hidden Gun. She differs from the courtesans seen in Assassin's Creed II, most notably by her different outfit and hairstyle. Ubisoft has stated that she will appear in the Single Player campaign, along with the other Multiplayer characters.

She is the subject of a chapter in Project Legacy where much of her back story is revealed. She began as a simple courtesan in the Rosa in Fiore brothel until a twist of fate led her into the employ of Cesare Borgia.

She served him for years and played an integral role in coordinating Cesare's allies in Rome. During her assignments she came in contact with all of the other multiplayer personas and interacted with them in different ways.

Eventually Fiora grew sick of her employer, especially after a visit from Malfatto, and decided to seek aid from the Brotherhood of Assassins.

Flip a Coin, Flip a Courtesan
The Courtesan runs to her unaware target and flips over their back, clipping him/her with her fan. The confused victim then staggers back and forth, until the Courtesan promptly slices the target's neck with her weapon.
Trivia
*She is the second of the two known female assassination targets, the first being Maria Thorpe.
*With the Elite Gear she wears a facemask.
*In the first chapter of the Rome expansion of Project Legacy, the player completes missions from the Courtesan's point of view.
*Close to the end of the first chapter, it seems that Fiora Cavazza made a deal with the Assassins and helped them kill some of Cesare's agents. It is unknown if she became an Assassin later or if she went her own way.
The Noble (real name: Silvestro Sabbatini) previously known as The Banker is a multiplayer character in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, who uses a claw as his primary weapon. Ubisoft states that he will also make an appearance in the single-player mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood along with a few of the other multiplayer characters.

Though he claimed to be a noble Silvestro was an infamous panderer, using any means necessary to ascend the social ladder. Fiora Cavazza compared him to a spider, always looking for his next meal.

His left arm was removed when he failed Cesare Borgia, though how he failed is a mystery. The prosthetic arm was given to him by Fiora Cavazza as a second chance from Cesare. Afterwards he began to participate in human trafficking, an activity that drew the attention of Ezio Auditore.

The Assassin ordered one of his recruits to assasinate Silvestro after tailing him to the slaves.

The Noble's pre-set special abilities are:
*Smoke bombs & Morph
*Speed Boost & Throwing Knives
*Disguise & Hidden Gun

First Class Cut
The Noble rushes towards his target from behind and clips the back of their neck, severing the top of the spinal cord, and causing the target to collapse to the ground.

The Claw Cliché
The Noble leaps from a rooftop onto the target, forcing them to the ground and impaling the blade into the skull of the target.

Trivia
*His claw is not only a primary weapon, but also a prosthetic in place of half of his left arm.
*His special attack is actually a form of air assassination. Another multiplayer character, the Prowler, also has a variation of this attack.
*He was originally called the Banker.
*His surname Sabbatini derives from a name given to a person born on "Sabato," meaning Saturday, which was a good omen.
The Doctor (real name: Malfatto) is a multiplayer character in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, who uses a syringe as his primary weapon.

His outfit highly resembles the ones worn by doctors during the plague, and appears black in the dark. His face is concealed by a mask, therefore making his true identity unknown. His outfit is different from what the doctors wear in Assassin's Creed II, most noticeably due to the shorter beak of his mask.

Ubisoft has said that he will make an appearance in the single player mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood along with the other multiplayer characters.

He appeared in Project Legacy where it is revealed he is in the employ of Cesare Borgia and is known to terrorize women. Fiora Cavazza called him a "monster".

He was assasinated by a member of the Brotherhood of Assassins under Ezio Auditore's orders after the assassin discovered the doctor's peculiar habits.
The Doctor can also perform a similar move from the front of the victim, where he thrusts the syringe into the victim's neck.
The Priest (real name: Brother Ristoro) is a multiplayer character available in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood who, despite his religious vows, is described as a paranoid and dangerous man. He uses a holy blade as his weapon, which, as seen in the Beta, has a blade that is able to retract into the hilt. It was stated by Ubisoft that he will make an appearance in the single player mode in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood as well, along with the other multiplayer characters.

In Project Legacy RIstoro is revealed to be an agent of the Borgia. He often produces various writs from the church for Cesare and frequents brothels often.
Unique Moves
Sacrificial Strike
If performed from behind the target, the Priest will run up and dig his dagger into the victim's upper back, causing them to go limp and fall to the ground. The move is reminiscent of human sacrificial rites throughout the ancient world, such as those of the Mayan and Aztec.

If the move is performed while the target is facing the Priest, he will either kick the target's stomach, causing them to bend down, and then deal a strike to the victim's vertebra, or simply thrust the dagger into his targets abdomen, killing them instantly.

A similar move is performed by Ezio Auditore if he attacks an unarmed enemy with a short blade.

Trivia
For the faction in Assassin's Creed II, see Courtesans.

Unique Moves
Flip a Coin, Flip a Courtesan
The Courtesan runs to her unaware target and flips over their back, clipping him/her with her fan. The confused victim then staggers back and forth, until the Courtesan promptly slices the target's neck with her weapon.
Trivia
*She is the second of the two known female assassination targets, the first being Maria Thorpe.
*With the Elite Gear she wears a facemask.
*In the first chapter of the Rome expansion of Project Legacy, the player completes missions from the Courtesan's point of view.

The Shroud of Eden, commonly known as the Shroud of Turin, is a linen cloth bearing an image of a man suffering a physical trauma relevant to crucifixion. It is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, northern Italy. Some say that the shroud is the very same cloth placed on the body of Jesus, with its image of the face being the Holy Face of Jesus.

In the Assassin's Creed universe, The Shroud, more specifically PE66, is a Piece of Eden. Many historical and religious figures like Jason, Joseph, David, and Jesus have possessed it at a certain time. Its purpose still unknown although it was likely used to cure illness, wounds, and to resurrect the deceased. A characteristic of the shroud demonstrated in the story of the sick lady who touched Jesus' robe, whose health was then restored back to normal. Being responsible for Jesus' crucifixion, the Templars sought to possess the Shroud. Jesus' disciples however, were somehow able to recover it and used it to resurrect him. After this, traces of the shroud disappeared for almost 1500 years until it fell into the hands of the Assassins and was kept at Agnadello. After this it fell into the hands of two different assassins. The first was Perotto Calderon who used the Shroud to save his deformed illegitimate son, Giovanni. The second was Calderon's apprentice, Francesco Vecellio who used it to save himself after being attacked by his own assassin brothers. After the use by Vecellio the whereabouts of the Shroud became unknown.
Side Effects
The use of the Shroud does not come without side effects. As demonstrated with both Francesco Vecellio and Perotto Calderon the shroud has several psychologically disturbing side effects with its use. Upon physical contact the Shroud seems to "speak" to the user. When touched by Perotto Calderon it "told" him, through a voice in his head, that his son was "broken goods" and could not be healed. Francesco Vecellio experienced the same voice in his head as well as graphic hallucinations. However it also appears that the shroud's healing is more an illusion than reality. An example of this is when Niccolo di Piigliano attempted to control the shroud's power and had his body smashed from the inside by the shroud's power.

Status: Unknown

Neutral ownership: Those Who Came Before, Jason, Joseph, David, Jesus Christ, Niccolò di Pitigliano.

Assassin associated ownership: Mario Auditore, Giovanni Auditore, Francesco Vecellio, Perotto Calderon

Templar associated ownership: Unknown.

Trivia
*Interestingly, in the French version of Assassin's Creed II, the Shroud was referred to as Piece of Eden #36, not #66. Whether this was a mistake in the translation or not remains to be seen.
Abstergo Industries is one of the largest companies in the world by the year 2012, and a front for the Templar Order. They are the employers of Dr. Warren Vidic and Lucy Stillman, captors of Desmond, as well as the company which funds the Animus. Even though on the outside Abstergo is labeled as a company working in the field of Medicine & Science, Dr. Vidic boasts of their accomplishments in more than just medical and scientific fields, but any huge progressive movement within last millennium.

Vidic claims that Abstergo is responsible for every scientific accomplishment for the last 1000 years, saying Abstergo chooses who gets credit for the accomplishments very carefully. Later, while being held at the laboratory, Desmond figures out that Abstergo is the modern-day embodiment of the Knights Templar. Also, in the e-mail in the conference room Alan Rikkin writes to Vidic: "May The Father of Understanding guide you to success". When Desmond asked who created the technology, Dr. Vidic mysteriously replies with "Those Who Came Before".

Abstergo has also been hunting the last of the Assassins left in the world, hoping to end their enemy's way of life, thus eliminating any chance of failure. Vidic's e-mail reveals Abstergo and Assassin presence in many events throughout history, such as the Tunguska event. The emails also discuss the Philadelphia Incident, in which the USS Eldridge (which was stationed in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard) was allegedly rendered invisible for several seconds, and sent forward in time. Experiments with the artifact related to this incident were halted, with Abstergo citing concern about paradoxes. Mitchell-Hedge's communicators are also mentioned, an abstract reference to the 13 Incan Crystal Skulls, supposedly discovered by the gentleman adventurer of the same name in the 1920's. New Age theorists state that the Crystal Skulls enable telepathy between their wielders, and therefore, the term communicators implies that Abstergo either:

*has these skulls.
*is able to communicate using them.
*This communication is undetectable by any Modern-day Assassins.

Through the e-mails we learn that Abstergo is being investigated for something called "New Fluoride", which they tested on an isolated community, were caught, and are currently being investigated for. This is the reason behind the Dec 21, 2012 launch of their Eye-Abstergo communications satellite, as afterword they risk being immobilized by having their assets frozen. The 12/21/2012 launch is also significant as it marks the end of the Mayan Long Count, 12th baktun cycle (and the date set by many to be the end of the world).

Abstergo was also involved in an accident under Denver International Airport, at Abstergo's satellite manufacture [and possibly launch] facility. E-mails show that a member of the project apparently went insane, using the Apple present to kill almost everyone at the facility, and ultimately himself and the Piece. This loss caused Abstergo to capture Desmond Miles, in the search for a replacement Piece.

Products
It is stated by Lucy that they produce anti-depressants. Vidic also mentioned that Abstergo invents everything to enhance everyday life. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were past Abstergo employees, making Abstergo responsible for popularizing the assembly line and electricity. During World War II, the Atomic Bomb's creation was directly linked to Abstergo, with "O"(J. Robert Oppenheimer) being given the go ahead by an unnamed Abstergo employee.

Known employees
Current employees
*Alan Rikkin - C.E.O. at Abstergo.
*Warren Vidic - Head of Research for Genetic memory and the Animus project.
*Nancy Nilop - Unknown position, possibly Leila's (former) boss.
*Jane Birkam - Unknown position, friend of Warren Vidic.
*Audrey Jacobs - Alan Rikkin's assistant.
*Richard - One of the three men that threatened to kill Lucy Stillman, but Vidic stopped them.
Former employees
*Lucy Stillman
*Leila Marino (deceased)

Trivia
*Abstergo is also a Latin verb, meaning "I cleanse."
*In the truth file regarding Apollo, scanning the symbol on the shuttle shows the Abstergo logo, suggesting that Abstergo Industries was behind the moon landings. Similarly, scanning the American flag planted on the moon reveals the Templar cross.
*During Ezio's visit to The Vault, the Abstergo logo can be seen on several images projected by Minerva.
*In the concept art for The Vault, what looks like the Abstergo logo can be seen on the floor of the circular room Ezio fights Rodrigo in.
*If you look at the photo of the animi room the wall has a window in the shape of the Templar cross.
*Technically, the Templar cross is on the doors as it forms a distinct cross with the blue lights
*In the online web game "Project Legacy" the player is an Abstergo employee. However the player does not seem to be aware of the company's association with the Templar order or their war against the Assassins. However, it is implied that the player is descended from Assassins so their motives for secrecy might not be so mysterious.
*Abstergo have a twitter for Project Legacy
*The Multiplayer mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is played from the point of view of Abstergo employees undergoing training in the Animi

As for a female Assassin, I'm not sure if that would fit into the Animus itself, as Desmond had memories of Altair up to the point of his son's conception but, rather than retain Maria's memories he was instantly transferred to the male child in her womb. Now, obviously the scriptwriters are free to take liberties with the whole DNA memory thing but to tell you the truth I don't see it working for most players. Now a spin-off game like Brotherhood that could complement AC III would be perfect for that kind of material! Maybe set during WWI as women often adapted male roles during the time period. Now as for WWII, personally I believe that the concept of "Allies crush the Nazis!", while a courageous and bloody concept in real life, has become a mediocre excuse to shoot up men in threatening Third Reich military attire. Now the scriptwriters, in my opinion, could craft even that overused time period with their brilliance but I just think other conflicts deserve their attention more, conflicts that were less black and white and more controversial and grey. Some examples include The American and French Revolutions, several people have already stated Victorian England, Cromwell's England is also an excellent idea, The American CIvil War also seems interesting, but I would also like the more obscure Opium Wars or maybe the story of Ghandhi. On a personal note, I would prefer if people did not take the example of Rodrigo Borgia and other corrupt clergymen displayed in Assassin's Creed as examples of the Catholic Church in entirety. Yes they were evil men, yes they encouraged rampant abuse of their power and should be despised for it, but there were also good catholics who died for noble purposes throughout history. St. THomas Moore defended his faith rather than bow to Henry VIII, hundreds of innocent people were crucified by the Japanese for just being Catholic, and let's not forget the men who founded the institution. They all died for what they believed in Peter was Crucified upside down, Paul was beheaded, Andrew was crucified on an X, Thomas was killed in India, and John was exiled to a remote island of solitude for his entire life. So, I implore you, do not accept the common misconception that all Catholocism is some evil puppetry. Yes we had corrupt jerks that controlled the church's money, formed armies, and caused rampant nepotism. But I ask you, what powerful institution hasn't? Note: I apologize if this was too long and for the personal slant at the end I just had to get that off my chest.

This loss caused Abstergo to capture Desmond Miles, in the search for a replacement Piece.
