Well, so ends that section. Pope Alexander VI did fall into a sort of state of depression after he found out about Jaun's death, and that he suspected his own sons to be the culprits. Heck, he went as so far as to publicly exonerate Jofré. What does that mean anyway?
Still, Vincenzo will soon make enemies with the entire Borgia family after what happened to Mario Auditore.

The Grand Temple Key was an amulet-like Piece of Eden that functioned primarily as a key to the inner sanctum of the Grand Temple in New York.

In 1754, the key was in the possession of the Assassin Miko. On the orders of Templar Grand Master Reginald Birch, Haytham Kenway assassinated the man inside the Theatre Royal (Covent Garden) in London and took the key from him. Upon Haytham's return to the Templar headquarters, Birch told Haytham that the key most likely opened a First Civilization storehouse in the British colonies. As a result, Birch booked Haytham passage to Boston, in order to find it and unlock its contents, and to establish a permanent Templar presence in colonial America.

In 1755, Haytham, with the help of Kaniehtí:io from the Kanien'kehá:ka tribe, located the entrance to the Grand Temple, but they were unable to access it, as he did not possess an Apple of Eden to open the first door. Following this, Haytham kept the amulet in his possession until 1781, when he passed it on to his second-in-command, Charles Lee.

In the following year, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, Haytham's son, killed Charles Lee in Boston and took the amulet from him. He later returned to his village, Kanatahséton, where he activated his tribe's Crystal Ball he had used years earlier to communicate with Juno. Juno greeted Ratonhnhaké:ton again, and told him to hide the amulet where none might find it. Following this, he made his way back to the manor at the Davenport Homestead and hid the key in the grave of Connor Davenport, after whom Ratonhnhaké:ton's mentor Achilles Davenport had nicknamed him.

In 2012, Ratonhnhaké:ton's descendant, Desmond Miles, relived his memories inside the Animus and found out that the key was hidden in Connor Davenport's grave. After having retrieved it, Desmond used it to open the inner gateway of the Grand Temple.
Trivia
*The key contained the Ouroboros symbol, which consists of a serpent, or a dragon, eating its own tail. The symbol represents the cyclical nature of many things in the universe, and of things beginning anew. It also represents infinity and a never ending cycle.

Altaïr made his way over to the Barbican of Jerusalem and entered Talal's warehouse. After dispatching the slave trader's men, the Assassin chased Talal, who attempted to escape the commotion, and assassinated him.

*Talal: Imprisoning them? I keep them safe. Preparing them for the journey that lies ahead.
*Altaïr: What journey? It is a life of servitude.
*Talal: You know nothing! It was folly to even bring you here! To think that you might see and understand!
*Altaïr: I understand well enough! Show yourself!
A door leading further into the warehouse opened, and Altaïr stepped through it.
*Talal: Ah, so you want to see the man who called you here.
*Altaïr: You did not call me here! I came on my own.
Talal laughed.
*Talal: Did you? Who unbarred the door? Cleared the path? Did you once raise your blade against a single man of mine, huh? No. All this, I did for you. Step into the light then, and I will grant you one final favor.
A ceiling hatch opened, letting a ray of light into the chamber. Altaïr stepped into it, just as Talal moved out of the shadows as well.
*Talal: Now, I stand before you. What is it you desire?
*Altaïr: Come down here! Let us settle this with honor!
Altaïr drew his blade as Talal's men surrounded him.
*Talal: Why must it always come to violence? It seems I cannot help you, for you do not wish to help yourself. And I cannot allow my work to be threatened. You leave me no choice. You must die.

Altaïr defeated Talal's guards, and climbed to the warehouse's upper level. Just as he did, Talal used another hatch to escape the warehouse. After a chase across Jerusalem, Altaïr eventually caught up and assassinated Talal.
*Altaïr: You've nowhere to run now. Share your secrets with me.
*Talal: My part is played. The Brotherhood is not so weak that my death will stop its work.
*Altaïr: What brotherhood?
*Talal: Al Mualim is not the only one with designs upon the Holy Land. And that's all you'll have from me.
*Altaïr: Then we are finished. Beg forgiveness from your God.
*Talal: He's long abandoned us. Long abandoned the men and women I took into my arms.
*Altaïr: What do you mean?
*Talal: Beggars, whores, addicts, lepers. Do they strike you as proper slaves? Unfit for even the most menial tasks? No. I took them not to sell, but to save! And yet you'd kill us all, for no other reason than it was asked of you.
*Altaïr: No, you profit from the war, from lives lost and broken.
*Talal: Yes, you would think that, as ignorant as you are. Wall off your mind, eh? They say it's what your kind do best. Do you see the irony in all this? No, not yet it seems. But you will.
Altaïr escaped Talal's men and returned to the Bureau.

*Malik: Altaïr! Wonderful to see you return to us! And how fared the mission?
*Altaïr: The deed is done. Talal is dead.
*Malik: Oh, I know, I know. In fact, the entire city knows! Have you forgotten the meaning of subtlety?!
*Altaïr: A skilled Assassin ensures his work is noticed by the many.
*Malik: No! A skilled Assassin maintains control of his environment!
*Altaïr: We can argue the details all you'd like, Malik, but the fact remains I've accomplished the task set to me by Al Mualim.
*Malik: Go then. Return to the old man. Let us see with whom he sides.
*Altaïr: You and I are on the same side, Malik.

Altaïr left the Bureau and headed back to Masyaf to report to Al Mualim after he kills Talal after (if he kills Garnier first).
*Al Mualim: Come in, Altaïr. You've done well. Three of the nine lay dead, and for this you have my thanks. But do not think to rest upon your laurels. Your work has just begun.
*Altaïr: I am yours to command, Master.
*Al Mualim: King Richard, emboldened by his victory at Acre, prepares to move south towards Jerusalem. Salahadin is surely aware of this. And so he gathers his men before the broken citadel of Arsuf.
*Altaïr: Would you have me kill them both then? End their war before it begins in earnest?
*Al Mualim: No. To do so would scatter their forces, and subject the realm to the bloodlust of ten thousand aimless warriors. It will be many days before they meet, and while they march, they do not fight. You must concern yourself with a more immediate threat - the men who pretend to govern in their absence.
*Altaïr: Give me names and I'll give you blood.

*Al Mualim: So I will. Abu'l Nuqoud, the wealthiest man in Damascus, Majd Addin, regent of Jerusalem, William of Montferrat, liege lord of Acre.
*Altaïr: What are their crimes?
*Al Mualim: Greed, arrogance, the slaughter of innocents. Walk amongst the people of their cities. You'll learn the secrets of their sins. Do not doubt that these men are obstacles to the peace we seek.
*Altaïr: Then they will die.
*Al Mualim: Another of your items is restored. Take it. See that it is put to good use. Return to me as each man falls, that we may better understand their intentions.
Al Mualim then dispatched three carrier pigeons, one for each city.
*Al Mualim: And Altaïr, take care. Your recent work has likely attracted the attention of the city guard. They'll be more suspicious than they've been in the past.

(If Altaïr kills Talal before killing Garnier)
*Al Mualim: I trust you were successful?
*Altaïr: The slave trader is dead.
*Al Mualim: Yes, the birds brought word to me. War is a dirty business. Labor and soldiers seem to be in short supply. Killing that man has saved countless lives. You’ve no doubt deprived the Crusaders and Saracens of additional troops. These are dark days, when men’s lives are valued in gold and such small amounts at that.
*Altaïr: He saw it differently. Claimed that they were not slaves at all. That he was helping them.
*Al Mualim: Do you know how it is you can tell a man is mad?
*Altaïr: They speak to the air, claw themselves.
*Al Mualim: No. They are the ones who speak and act as if there is nothing wrong.
*Altaïr: I don't understand.
*Al Mualim: Few are the men who would admit to evil. Always rationalized, always explained.
*Altaïr: So he lied.
*Al Mualim: I was not there. Did not hear his words myself, but yes, if you speak truly, I think he was simply trying to excuse his deeds.
*Altaïr: I saw through them. he men and women who’d be slaves. They were a strange sort: old, mad, sick.
*Al Mualim: Weak, yes. What better way to make a soldier than to take a broken man and rebuild him? Give him all he’s been denied with the promise of more.
*Altaïr: It seems a lot of work.
*Al Mualim: It is. But what you get in return is loyalty. Knowing what it was this to lose, such man would loathe to betray their savior.
*Altaïr: An interesting theory.
*Al Mualim: See? There is still much I can teach you! Everyone deceives: each other, themselves. Learn to pierce the veil and know that nothing is true. Go! It is time you continue with your work. Another rank is restored to you.

Outcome
Altaïr assassinated Talal, and returned to Masyaf for further instructions.
Durante degli Alighieri (1265 – 1321), commonly known as Dante, was an Italian poet of the Middle Ages, and a covert member of the Assassin Order. Historically, he is best known for writing the three-part epic poem, Divine Comedy.

Biography
Life as an Assassin
During the Middle Ages, Dante had risen through the ranks of the Assassin Order, and was considered one of their senior members.

Dante was exiled from Florence due to his political connections with the Guelphs and Ghibellines. He was sheltered in Forlì during the exile, where he wrote the Divine Comedy.

In the later 13th century, Dante was tasked with the training of Domenico Auditore, a member of the Auditore family of Florence, and a descendant of a long line of Assassins.

The day that Domenico first found out about the Assassin Order, his father, his father's patron Marco Polo, and Dante were present. Domenico was a sailor who carried cargo across the Atlantic and Mediterranea, thus, as Marco explained, Dante would train Domenico in the ways of the Order, in exchange for transport to Spain.

Dante met with Domenico repeatedly before they departed from Venice, first conversing with him about practical needs for the journey, such as supplies, then moving on to deeper lessons, and speaking of "higher things about life, love, honor and justice."

Dante showed Domenico the Codex of the legendary Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, and taught him the Creed. Through their lessons, Dante told his apprentice that society was "set up in such a way as to control its members, to stop us from thinking, from seeing." Soon, Domenico had learned to "look past all laws and illusions", and see that the people deserved freedom.

Later life and death
Before his journey to Barcelona could take place, Dante was murdered by Templars on a trip to gather his belongings in Ravenna. Domenico's father explained to him that Dante had been tasked with delivering the Codex to Spain, and urged him to take on the responsibility instead.

Though Domenico lost his wife to pirates during his attempts to fulfill Dante's mission, he was able to scatter the pages of the Codex in the ship's cargo, and keep it safe from Templar hands.

Legacy
In 1511, the Assassin Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze read Dante's Inferno in Sofia Sartor's shop. Sofia evoked her admiration for Dante's genius, and Ezio commented on Dante's "subtle way of revenge" through his poems, where he depicted his enemies as being tortured in Hell.

Trivia
The symbol on the key is Ouroboros, which consists of a snake, or a dragon biting its own tail. The symbol represents infinity, unity, or a never ending cycle.
The Prince's Banquet was a virtual representation of one of Ezio Auditore's genetic memories, relived by Desmond Miles in 2012 through the Animus.

Description
Ezio Auditore met with Yusuf Tazim and other Ottoman Assassins at the Hippodrome to plan the protection of Prince Suleiman at the Topkapı Palace's cultural exposition.

Following this, Ezio and the other Assassins decided to steal clothing from minstrels and infiltrate the courtyards of the palace. There, Ezio was able to use Eagle Sense to identify the guests trying to kill Suleiman.

Dialogue
Ezio met up with Yusuf, along with other Assassins.
*Yusuf: A pleasant surprise, Ezio. We should trade stories if I am not dead by this time tomorrow.
*Ezio: Is there a chance of that?
*Yusuf: We learned that the Byzantines are planning to infiltrate Topkapı Palace now that Prince Suleiman has returned from his hajj (pilgrimage). If they do strike, it will be tonight at the cultural exposition the Prince has organized.
*Ezio: So what is our plan?
*Yusuf: Kardeshim (Brother), this is not your fight. No need to snare yourself into the Ottoman affairs.
*Ezio: The Byzantines found a key beneath Topkapı Palace, and I would like to know how.
*Yusuf: Ezio, we want to protect our Shehzade (Prince) not interrogate him.
*Ezio: Trust me, Yusuf. Just tell me where to go.
*Yusuf: Topkapı's main gate. We plan to dress as entertainers and walk right in.
*Ezio: I will find a disguise and meet you there.
Ezio and the other Assassins made their way to the Topkapı Palace.
*Ezio: Minstrels from Italia? I am going to enjoy this.
The Assassins knocked out the minstrels and disguised themselves in their clothes.

*Yusuf: I look ridiculous. I feel ridiculous.
*Ezio: My blade is too conspicuous in this outfit. Are you armed?
*Yusuf: Mesele degil. (Not a problem.) You mark the targets and we will take them out.
Ezio picked up a lute.
*Yusuf: You know how to play that thing?
*Ezio: I learned a few chords when I was young.
*Yusuf: When were you ever young?
Ezio walked up to some guards protecting the courtyard at the entrance.

*Guard: This courtyard is closed to the public. Turn around and start walking.
*Ezio: Perdonate, buon signore. (Forgive me, kind sir.) We are this evening's entertainment.
*Guard: Any old gerzek (fool) can carry an instrument around. Get lost.
Ezio ignored the guards and began to play the lute.
*Guard: You sound like a dying cat.<br />What is this?<br />Berbatsin! (You are terrible!)<br />What are you doing?<br />Pekala! (All right!) Go in and bother the guests with that noise.
Ezio met up with Yusuf after targeting and killing the first two enemies.
*Ezio: This courtyard is clear.
*Yusuf: But I do not see Prince Suleiman. Follow me.
Ezio and Yusuf went to the next courtyard.
*Yusuf: Now this is a celebration. Suleiman. The Sultan's grandson, and governor of Kefe. And he's only seventeen.
*Ezio: We met on the ship. He told me he was a student. And who is that?

*Yusuf: His uncle, Shehzade (Prince) Ahmet. The Sultan's favored son. He is grooming himself for the Sultanate as we speak.
*Ahmet: Serefe! (To life!) Sagliginiza! (To health!)
*Yusuf: Come, we have more Byzantines to find.
A guard saw a dead body, which had failed to be hidden properly by the Assassins.
*Guard: Suikastchi! Suikastchi! (Assassin! Assassin!) Clear the courtyard! Shehzade (Prince) Suleiman, take cover! Follow them!
Yusuf called out as a Byzantine ran towards Suleiman with a dagger unsheathed.
*Yusuf: Ezio!
Ezio snapped his lute in half and killed the assailant with part of the handle.
*Suleiman: It is a relief to see you again, mio bel menestrello. (my handsome minstrel.) Did I say that right?
*Ezio: Well enough. I hear you are a governor too. Is there anything you do not do?

*Suleiman: I do not talk to strangers. I am Suleiman.
*Ezio: Ezio Auditore...
*Guard: Shehzadem! (Prince!) Are you injured?
*Suleiman: Who is your captain, soldier?
*Guard: Tarik Barleti. He is away on an errand.
*Suleiman: Clear this body and send the guests home. Then summon Tarik to the Divan.
*Guard: Bashustane, shehzadem. (Yes, my Prince.)
*Suleiman: Tarik Barleti is a captain in the Janissary corps, the Sultan's elite soldiery.
*Ezio: They guard the Sultan, but not his family?
*Suleiman: Not very well, evidently. Ezio, do you have time to spare? I would like your opinion on something.
*Ezio: I will, once I change out of these rags.
*Suleiman: Guzel (Good). Meet me when you are ready.

Outcome
Ezio was able to save Prince Suleiman, killing the final attacker himself, and was invited to consult with him later on.
Ezio's songs
On singing
:I'm dressed up like a jester
:I act the fool and mime
:All the actions of those I curse
:And run down all the time.

:I am a tactless minstrel
:I sing off-key for coins
:If you spot me in the street
:Please kick me in the loins.

:No one understands my plight
:The life of a musician
:Singing for impatient men
:A terminal condition.

:I can't believe I stand here
:And sing, my time I waste
:But you who sit and smile at me
:Sincerely have no taste.

:The things I do to save the world
:Surprise me time to time
:Like learning how to play the lute
:And making these words rhyme.

:A minstrel's song I heard them say
:Brings maidens by the score
:But luck deserts me when I play
:They hasten to the door.

:I sing in Italiano
:You understand no word
:But my Greek is nonexistent
:And my Turkish is absurd.

:I will sing in praise of children
:I will croon in praise of dames
:I will chant in praise of mighty men
:When I recall their names.
Life and loves
:While traveling through Forlì
:I took her at her leisure
:She said "It's strictly business"
:Such business was my pleasure.

:Proud Romagna's iron lady
:A rose of tempered steel
:Could raise the ardor of a corpse
:And teach a stone to feel.

:Oh the beauties of Firenze
:Can melt a heart, you see
:Beware the girls of Roma

:Konstantiniyye, I beg you
:Constantine's corpse would turn
:Had not Istanbul the cure.

:To judge a lady's character
:Note well her company
:If you should wish to seem a sage
:Come spend the night with me.
:Could not be killed by man
:So I tossed him through the air
:To see where he might land.

:Cesare, oh Cesare,
:A man of great depravity
:Believed himself immortal 'til
:He had a date with gravity.

:Before Rodrigo was the Pope
:He was a man of vices
:And once he gained the Holy See
:He raised his vices' prices.

:Fair Lucrezia could not sate
:Her appetite for lovers
:But I suspect she would be fine
:With two or three more brothers.

Other enemies
:Vieri, oh Vieri
:Yes he of Pazzi fame
:Was just as mad as his old man
:And ended just the same.

:Venezia's grim Doge
:A fierce and evil man
:Was just a trifle red of face
:When I upset his plan.

:There once was a man named Duccio
:A rat with lecherous taste
:Whenever he would show himself

Ezio walked up to some guardsprotecting the courtyard at the entrance.

*Guard: This courtyard is closed to the public. Turn around and start walking.
*Ezio: Perdonate, buon signore. (Forgive me, kind sir.) We are this evening's entertainment.
*Guard: Any old gerzek (fool) can carry an instrument around. Get lost.
Ezio ignored the guards and began to play the lute and sing.
Yusuf called out as a Byzantine ran towards Suleiman with a dagger unsheathed.
*Yusuf: Ezio!
*Ezio: I will, once I change out of these rags.
Outcome
Ezio was able to save Prince Suleiman, killing the final attacker himself, and was invited to consult with him later on.
On singing
:I'm dressed up like a jester
:I act the fool and mime
:All the actions of those I curse
:And run down all the time.

:I am a tactless minstrel
:I sing off-key for coins
:If you spot me in the street
:Please kick me in the loins.

:No one understands my plight
:The life of a musician
:Singing for impatient men
:A terminal condition.

:I can't believe I stand here
:And sing, my time I waste
:But you who sit and smile at me
:Sincerely have no taste.

:The things I do to save the world
:Surprise me time to time
:Like learning how to play the lute
:And making these words rhyme.

:A minstrel's song I heard them say
:Brings maidens by the score
:But luck deserts me when I play
:They hasten to the door.

:I sing in Italiano
:You understand no word
:But my Greek is nonexistent
:And my Turkish is absurd.

:I will sing in praise of children
:I will croon in praise of dames
:I will chant in praise of mighty men
:When I recall their names.
:She said "It's strictly business"

:Oh the beauties of Firenze
Durante degli Alighieri (1265 – 1321), commonly known as Dante, was an Italian poet of the Middle Ages, and a covert member of the Assassin Order. He is best known for writing the three part epic poem, Divine Comedy.
