Abstergo Industries is one of the largest multinational corporations in the world by the year 2012, serving as a front for the Templar Order. They are the employers of Dr. Warren Vidic and Lucy Stillman, the captors of Desmond, and the company that funds the Animus.

Even though Abstergo is outwardly labeled as a company working in the field of Medicine and Science, Dr. Vidic boasts of their accomplishments in fields beyond these; going so far as to claim their involvement in every huge progressive movement within last millennium. He claims that either Abstergo or its predecessors were responsible for every scientific accomplishment for the last 1,000 years, though Abstergo chooses who gets credit for the accomplishments very carefully. However, these achievements are not purely of their doing, as when Desmond asks who created the Animus' technology, Dr. Vidic cryptically replies with "Those Who Came Before."

Desmond discovers Abstergo's identity as the modern-day embodiment of the Knights Templar while being held at their laboratory. He does so after reading several e-mails, particularly one viewable in the conference room, wherein Alan Rikkin writes to Vidic: "May the Father of Understanding guide you to success," a phrase long used by the Templar Order.

Abstergo has also been hunting the last of the Assassins left in the world, hoping to end their enemies' way of life, thus eliminating any chance of their own failure. Vidic's e-mail reveals Abstergo and Assassin presence in many events throughout history, such as the Tunguska event. The emails also discuss the Philadelphia Incident, in which the USS Eldridge (which was stationed in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard) was allegedly rendered invisible for several seconds, and sent forward in time. Experiments with the artifact related to this incident were halted, with Abstergo citing concern about paradoxes.

Mitchell-Hedge's communicators are also mentioned, along with an abstract reference to the 13 Incan Crystal Skulls that were supposedly discovered by the gentleman adventurer of the same name in the 1920's. New Age theorists state that the Crystal Skulls enable telepathy between their wielders, and therefore, the term "communicators" implies that Abstergo either has these skulls or is able to communicate using them. This communication is likely also undetectable by any modern-day Assassin.

Through the e-mails, we learn that Abstergo is being investigated for something called "New Fluoride," which they tested on an isolated community, were caught, and are currently being held in suspicion because of it. This is the reason behind the December 21, 2012 launch of their Eye-Abstergo communications satellite, as afterwards, they risk being immobilized by having their assets frozen. The 12/21/2012 launch is also significant, as it marks the end of the Mayan Long Count, 12th baktun cycle - the date set by many to be the end of the world.

Abstergo was also involved in an accident under the Denver International Airport, at Abstergo's satellite manufacturing (and possibly launch) facility. E-mails show that a member of the project apparently went insane, using the Apple present to kill almost everyone at the facility, ultimately destroying himself and the Piece. This loss caused Abstergo to capture Desmond Miles, in order to search for a replacement Piece.

Products
Vidic mentions that Abstergo invents everything to enhance everyday life, and it is also stated by Lucy that they produce anti-depressants. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were past Abstergo employees, making Abstergo responsible for popularizing the assembly line and electricity. During World War II, the Atomic Bomb's creation was directly linked to Abstergo, with "O" (J. Robert Oppenheimer) being given the go ahead by an unnamed Abstergo employee.

Past History of the Company
In July 22, 1944, an unknown member of the company sent out a memo to fellow members. They mentioned using the assembly line to control both capitalists and workers, and credited Ransom "Ranny" Olds and Henry Ford for its creation. This person further added that they hoped that in the future, the company would not have to use such "ugly chains". They mention that Abstergo's founders designed the "Plan" in 1910. This individual also brought up the Communists and said it was Abstergo's duty to save them (neutralize) and their followers. The reasons given were that they were to be allowed to eat and to reproduce. They furthers elaborates on Abstergo's goals, stating to his fellow Templars that their duty was to "shepherd those beneath us through life, even if force is required". The unknown member mentioned other Templars known only by the initials "H." and "S." (Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin) who brought on the "turmoil and fear". Towards the end of this memo, they brought up the "successful ruse of Rockefeller's dimes". . This information was hidden by Subject 16 for Desmond Miles to find.

Abstergo was responsible for British mathematician Alan Turing's criminal prosecution and possibly his death. In a phone recording dating to June 1954. Also hidden by Subject 16, two Templars only known by the initials "V." and "N." mention the need for Turing to be arrested. They feared "mass employment" if the mathematician did ended up creating a computer. The two men also mentioned American economist and senior U.S.A. Treasury Department official Harry Dexter White.

In the 1970s, Abstergo involved itself in the economic and political affairs of Iran, Argentina, and Chile. This information was also revealed to Desmond by Subject 16 via a company memo hidden in a glyph. This memo on the subject of South America stated that "to ensure company's success, company agents must be able to move freely from country to country and maintain power within all of them. A global international order must be implemented".

In Argentina, the memo tells members to inform capitalists that if they helped ensure that the junta stays in power. Abstergo will pass all their corporate debt onto the Argentine people, thus quelling any attempts of popular revolt. The person who wrote the memo also added that they wanted trade unions there to be destroyed. The actions of Abstergo likely contributed to the disappearance of at least 30,000 Argentinian people in the 1970s .

In neighboring Chile, Abstergo wanted the free markets to proceed. The memo mentioned a templar known by the initial F. who visited the country last year, thus helping things along. The memo went on to state that all public companies need to be sold to the private sector, preferably at a cheap price. The price of bread and other staples must rise, therefore ensuring that the Chilean people remain in poverty and being unable to resist. Abstergo's efforts ended up thwarting President Salvador Allende's efforts to allow the people to own Chile's corporations, which ended with his suicide in 1973. This helped future dictator Augusto Pinochet to assume power. Abstergo escaped detection because it deliberately hid its involvement and implicated the U.S. government .

In Iran, Abstergo backed monarch Shah Pahlavi, Shaban Jafari, and the National Intelligence and Security Organization, otherwise known as SAVAK, against democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. This resulted in Mosaddegh being overthrown in 1953 and dying under house arrest in 1967.
Trivia
*Abstergo is a Latin verb, meaning "I cleanse."
*In the Truth file regarding Apollo, scanning the symbol on the shuttle shows the Abstergo logo, suggesting that Abstergo Industries was behind the moon landings. Similarly, scanning the American flag planted on the moon reveals the Templar cross.
*During Ezio's visit to the Vault, the Abstergo logo can be seen on several images projected by Minerva.
*In the concept art for The Vault, what looks like the Abstergo logo can be seen on the floor of the circular room in which Ezio fights Rodrigo.
*Abstergo's Animi room has a wall with a large window in the shape of the Templar cross.
*The doors within the laboratory are marked with blue lights in the shape of the Templar cross.
*In Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy, the player is an Abstergo employee. However, the player does not seem to be aware of the company's association with the Templar Order or their war against the Assassins. However, it is implied that the player is descended from Assassins, thus their motives for secrecy might not be so mysterious.
*Abstergo has a Twitter page for Project Legacy .
*The Multiplayer mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is played from the point of view of Abstergo employees undergoing training in the Animi.
*The Abstergo Industries facility in which Desmond was initially held, and later escaped from, was located in Italy. During his escape, Desmond saw several signs written in Italian.
*According to phone sound files in glyphs during ACBH, Abstergo used TVs to spy on civillians and video games to distract them.
}}

Rebecca Crane is one of the modern day Assassins introduced in Assassin's Creed II. She is the creator of the Animus 2.0 - which she affectionately refers to as "Baby" - and provides technical support for the Assassins alongside her partner, Shaun Hastings. She appears to be an old friend of Lucy Stillman, although, prior to the game, the two purportedly did not see one another for seven years, perhaps due to Lucy's internment at Abstergo.

In Assassin's Creed II, Rebecca serves as tech support for the Animus 2.0. She often leaves notes within the database entries that Shaun makes available for Desmond Miles while he is in the Animus, especially if the entries (i.e. about a particular structure) indicate the presence of a Glyph or Assassin's Tomb therein. The data module that Rebecca receives from Lucy with the records of the Abstergo version of the Animus allow Desmond to interact with the encrypted files Subject 16 left behind in Ezio Auditore da Firenze's memories.

Biography
It is unknown whether Rebecca is a "proper" Assassin like Desmond and Lucy. She makes allusions, but nothing is ever conclusively said about the nature of her place in relation to the Assassins. She did, however, play an important role in inducting Shaun Hastings into the Order. When Shaun, with his gifts for connection and conspiracy, endangered his own life by trying to tell the world what Abstergo was up to, Rebecca saved him from Templar silencers, and recruited him as an Assassin.

Assassin's Creed II
In Assassin's Creed II, Rebecca monitors the Animus to make sure nothing goes wrong (such as what happened at the start of the first Assassin's Creed). She will often provide a comment relating to being at the top of most rather tall buildings, such as remarking that "the view must be great" from the top of a church, or that she thinks Desmond is itching to get to the top of a bell tower.

Aside from providing technical support for the Animus, and her small segments of banter with Shaun and Desmond, Rebecca doesn't play a significant story role until the end of the game, when she helps Shaun pack up the Animus gear while Desmond and Lucy defend their location from Abstergo. As they escape into a truck, she is able to get the Animus working inside it, which allows Desmond to re-enter the Renaissance and finish any remaining memories while on the way to their second base up North. This consequently allows the player to finish up any Side Missions and plot elements they may have missed, such as Races, Assassin's Tombs and Feather collecting, to name a few.

Characteristics and personality
Rebecca is an energetic, somewhat immature young woman - despite the fact that she saved his life, Shaun Hastings is quick to belittle and gibe at her. She is tolerant and optimistic, representing Shaun's foil - she is the polar opposite of her colleague, friendly and talkative. She shows great pride in her work, praising her redesign of the Animus as having a far more enlightened and creative construct; a "competitive edge" as she calls it. She also remains convinced that, despite Shaun's dubiousness of their means, the Assassins are, as Desmond puts it, "the good guys."

Trivia
*When in the Animus 2.0, Rebecca adds information to the database using the name REBECCAC84. This username holds her first name, the initial of her last name, and possibly her birth year. This may mean that she was 28 as of 2012.
*When Lucy Stillman and Desmond Miles first enter the hideout, Rebecca greets Lucy happily and exclaims: "It's been so long... Seven years!" This means that the last time the two friends saw each other was in 2005.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, she appears to have put on make-up, unlike in Assassin's Creed II.
*It is shown when Desmond is eating a burger in Monteriggioni that she is a vegetarian after yelling out, "Carnivore" when she spotted him eating.
*From reading the emails by accessing Rebecca's account, she looses her mp3 player and she "can't sleep without it." She is also called a templar by Shaun.
*Upon talking to her in the early parts of the game, she mentions to Desmond that she went into the Animus once. She says she was a Prussian mercenary. She comments, "Boring!"
*It was revealed in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood that she had another job before working with the Assassins. This job was then revealed to be a snowboarder, but she had to quit because she broke her leg.

*It was revealed in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood that she had another job before working with the Assassins. This job was then revealed to be a snowboarder, but she had to quit because she broke her leg.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is an upcoming direct sequel of 2009's Assassin's Creed II. Featuring Ezio once again, the game pictures him, now a legendary master assassin, leading his newly found brotherhood in a hunt for Templars. This is also the first game of the series to include a multiplayer mode of any kind.

Desmond Miles will make an appearance in Brotherhood, as his voice actor Nolan North has admitted to be working on a new Assassin's Creed game and game developers announced that his story would "take an interesting turn".

Story
Following the events of Assassin's Creed II, Ezio Auditore da Firenze is now a legendary master assassin. However, following a surprise Templar attack on the town of Monteriggioni, led by Cesare Borgia, the Assassins are brought to the verge of extinction, and the Apple lost.

With his uncle dead, and his Villa in ruins, Ezio must now travel to Rome, center of corruption, power, and home of the Templar Order in Italy; in order to regain the Apple, and bring the Templar Order to its knees once and for all.
Singleplayer
Ubisoft claims (through conferences, videos and announces) that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will include new features, especially small gameplay add-on (i.e.: the flying Sequence in Assassin's Creed II, different from the rest of the gameplay). New weapons such as the crossbow will be introduced, and new combat elements will also be introduced, rewarding those who attack first, for example. Additionally enemies will more likely attack together instead of just one at a time as seen in previous instalments.

It is also likely that the player (through Ezio) will have to train apprentices, help other assassins, and confront enemies along with them.

Ezio's ability to train and send other assassins on jobs and missions may have a key gameplay element in such that their success may have a small impact of the storyline, much like the progression of the game through upgrading Rome. This success will depend on abilities of the assassins sent, where younger, less experienced assassins will have a higher failure rate than older, more experienced ones. If your assassins die on a mission, they will not come back. Ezio may also have the ability to select and bring along a group of assassins to assist in his missions, Ubisoft has said that in Brotherhood leadership is as vital a skill as the ability to use a sword. Also mentioned was the ability to select an assassin as Ezio's "personal assassin", no further information about this was given.

Multiplayer
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is the first Assassin's Creed game to feature a multiplayer mode. The players are Templars in training at the Abstergo facility. They use the Animi and the Bleeding Effect to train in combat, stealth and free running. The simulation consists of stalking and killing one another. The area in which the Templar assassins train is selected manually, as pre-set maps.

One of the multiplayer game modes has been announced in the July edition of Playstation magazine. This mode is called "Wanted". Six to eight players are dropped on a map where they find and kill each other. Each player is given a target, which is another player. Your goal is to find and kill your target without being seen or killed by your own predator. If you break your cover and your target sees you, a chase sequence will commence. They will try to catch and kill you and you will have to hide from them.

In Hunter mode, one player will take the role of an assassin while other players play as guards. Before the beginning of the mission the player will have to choose his class - there is no information how many classes will be available, but each class will have different animations and weapons. After the player has chosen his class, the radar will show him the area where his target is located and the number of enemy players that are searching for him. After the player has found the location where the victim is hiding they must then locate their target. There aren’t many skins for the NPCs so the player might find several identical people on the same location. That will make his job a lot harder because he should kill only one person, and if the player accidentally kills an innocent person he will lose his contract. Therefore, observation is the key to success in this mode. Ubisoft hints that each multiplayer character will appear in some form in the single-player mode too.

No further specifics about game modes are known.

The Beta comes out in early Autumn.

Physics and Effects
Ubisoft has stated that the graphics will be improved upon, as well as several physics in the game. Ragdolls will fall much more realistic due to the new, edited "Havok" engine. In the other games, ragdolls sometimes would convulse when hitting the floor after being thrown off a building.

In Assassin’s Creed II, some PC players have stated that ragdolls such as a Messenger are more likely to fall unrealistic, due to their cape that 'clips' through their body. In some instances, ragdolls would have fallen with their arms clipping through their backs and legs. These certain instances mostly happen when Ezio picks up a body and throws it back on the ground, however it could happen any time.

Controlling the Assassins
During the game you will have the option of sending Assassins to different areas to complete tasks. You will have the ability to send new assassins to other European countries and complete missions to gain status. Once they have proven themselves effectively, they can accompany you on missions in Rome. The new assassins are recruited when Ezio rescues them from harassing guards, which leads them to join the Assassins. You can have the ability to train young Assassins and have them do jobs for you.

If an Assassin fails to pass a mission, he can't be used again. You can also customize the assassins' armor and weaponry, and each one has a different personality. Later on you can use experience points they've gained to upgrade their fighting and free-running abilities.
*So far it's known that you will be able to train at least twelve assassins, male or female, at a time and possibly bring up to five, including the "personal assassin", on missions.
*It is also known so far that you can't play as the apprentinces, you can only play as Ezio.

Trivia
*In the E3 2010 Single Player Walkthrough, the "Press Start/Enter" menu background changes from the original Animus in Assassin's Creed to the Animus 2.0 in Assassin's Creed II. As all of the characters in the multiplayer mode are Templars, it can be seen that they are using the Abstergo Animi. It may also hint that Desmond is captured by Abstergo once again, as Ubisoft has said that his story is to take "an interesting turn".
*All of the multiplayer characters appear in the single-player mode as well, as stated by Ubisoft.
