Ultimately for performing so well, she was granted a diplomatic post. Over the next decade she traveled the world, developing a reputation for brutality that preceded her in most conflicts. Using piracy as a cover for her political activities, she banded with any who might serve her ultimate desire for negotiated order.

In the [[Caribbean|West Indies]], she fell under the interest of a rumored cache of treasure, and feigned a romantic relationship with one-time [[Assassins|Assassin]], [[Vance Travers]], to gain access to it. Under the suspicion of Jing being a Templar, Vance's brother, [[Upton Travers|Upton]], ordered Edward Kenway to have them both killed. Edward agreed to do so on the condition that he be allowed to keep a [[Templar keys|Templar key]] she was supposed to be carrying. Edward tracked them both down to a swamp just outside of Nassau, where he killed Vance first. After searching his corpse, Edward spotted Jing herself, who called him a traitor before fleeing. Edward managed to catch up to Jing and assassinate her. In her last words, Jing lamented falling for the sake of a fake map: she had already stolen both halves of the real one, which were now in the hands of her husband.

Zhang then told Jun to leave in peace, and Jun accepted her decision. With her hard work and patience, Zhang became the Jiajing's Empress.

In 1530, [[Zhang Yong]] and [[Qiu Ju]] used Empress Zhang to set a trap for Shao Jun, the two Templars forcing her co-operation by threatening her life. When Jun arrived, she was horrified to find the only person alive that she could trust had betrayed her; nevertheless, she forgave Zhang, once the Templars made their presence clear to her.
