Rashid ad-Din Sinan, later known as "Al Mualim", is Altaïr's mentor and master of the Syrian sect of the Assassin Order.

Biography
Characteristics
Al Mualim is a extremely wise and just leader, however rather unpredictable and mysterious at times. In Masyaf, a discreet city in the mountains, is located the fortress and headquarters of the Syrian sect of Assassins, where Al Mualin spends most of his time studying.

By his efforts, the Order have become a well-known and feared but rather obscure faction, inspiring fear and uncertainty throughout the land and spreading rumors that increased the already legendary reputation of the brotherhood. That've been accomplished by the murdering of important and sometimes "unreachable" persons, on both public and silent assassinations, which made people of power aware of the constant danger they may be running and regular folks somewhat conforted by the fact that there's someone always watching.

Al Mualim does not just stress political assassination but education as well, as he had thorough understanding and knowledge pertaining from philosophy to science. This wisdom was employed constantly for the people and his order, in addition to preaching the creed as the only way to achieve the brotherhood's goal of peace in all things, and enphasized that this refers to peace within as well. He constantly reminded the assassins, "Never harbor hate for your victims, for such things are poison.", which aided emotional detachment and ensured the dispatching of a target.

The leader of the assassins often employed his "children" as political warriors, directed to fight as the voice of the people throughout the Holy Land, suppressing those who use their power and influence to commit impious acts against society. He rewards success richly, but despises failure and doesn't abide traitors.

As he reveals little about himself, almost nothing is known about his early life.

<!--Holy crap, some of these paragraphs are extremely awkward. Someone should rewrite them. -->

Assassin's Creed
After Altaïr's failure at Solomon's Temple that caused the incapacitation and death of one fellow assassin, caused Malik to lose his left arm, and caused an attack by the Templars to Masyaf, Al Mualim demotes him from Master Assassin to Novice, removing much of his equipment and his authority at the order. Altair then goes to earn his status back by killing nine men who support the Crusade from both Catholic and Muslim sides.

After killing the nineth man, Robert de Sable, the dying target states that Al Mualim was, in fact, a Templar. Altaïr then returns to Masyaf and finds out that people in the city have been put in a hypnotic trance, but he along with some fellow assassins are unaffected by the mind control and make way to the fortress. Reaching the castle, he discovers that Al Mualim was responsible for this by use of the Piece of Eden recovered at Solomon's Temple, and confronts his master. After fighting illusions, Altaïr manages to carve his hidden blade into Al Mualim, ending the cause of the hypnotic trance. As he dies, the leader of the Assassins says that he did it all to ensure absolute peace in the world, and claims that Altaïr, as him, will not be able to destroy the Piece of Eden.

Final Words
(Al Mualim collapses, dying. The Piece of Eden falls from his hand and rolls away).

Al Mualim: Impossible! The student does not defeat the teacher!

Altaïr: La shaiq' waqee mutlak bl kollin mumkin! (Arabic: Nothing is true, everything is permitted).

Al Mualim: So it seems. You have won, then. Go and claim your prize.

Altaïr: You held fire in your hand, old man. It should have been destroyed!

Al Mualim: Destroy the only thing capable of ending the Crusades and bringing true peace!? Never!

Altaïr: Then I will!

Al Mualim: We'll see about that...

Trivia
* He is based on a real person, Rashid ad-Din Sinan, a.k.a. The Old Man of the Mountain.
* "Al Mualim" means "The Teacher" or "The Master" in Arabic.
* There is speculation that Warren Vidic and Al Mualim have similar facial features and therefore may be related.
* He is voiced by Peter Renaday.
}}

Sibrand is one of the nine Al Mualim orders Altair to assassinate. He is found in the Middle District of Acre.

Description
Sibrand is the newly appointed Master of the Knights Teutonic, currently in charge of the port area of the Middle District within the city of Acre. His experiences with the Templars and the crusades have destroyed his belief in God, and as such he has become greatly fearful of death, knowing that life is all he has. He explains this belief to Altair as he dies and seems certain, much as Abstergo is in the future, that there is no God of any kind.

Sibrand's experiences, along with the public assassinations of his comrades in Acre, Garnier and William, have made him extremely paranoid and he sees enemies everywhere, which has lead to him doubling all the patrols in the Middle District (even threatening to withdraw the entire Teutonic Order from the field to defend him) as well as cowering deep within the docks out of fear that the assassins approach from anywhere, except surrounded by water, or so he thinks. He is quick to deal with supposed "traitors". At the time of his death in which Altair is sent to assassinate Sibrand, he is extremely fearful of the Assassins and distrustful of anyone wearing similar robes or attire of any kind, especially Scholars. When sneaking up to his boat, it is easy to hear him screaming "Fine! None of you will lift a hand in defense of your master, I'll take care of this heathen <i>myself!</i>"

Sibrand carries a large bow and wears a great helm with horns in battle.

Death
Altair attends a disturbance within the docks as one with the crowd, and in turn discovers that Sibrand has been driven mad by the continued success of Altair's work. As the stories of the Assassins sweep through the land. Sibrand has accused a scholar of being an assassin, poisoned by fear. After further accusations he kills the innocent man. After positioning himself defensively on a ship he intends to sail on. Unknowingly setting the stage for a difficult but not impossible assassination strike on his life. Altair maneuvers above the water safely while slowly approaching his intended target unnoticed. Finally reaching the side of the ship Altair waits as Sibrand begins to shout, at the exact moment an opening appears, the silent and cunning assassin positions himself onto the ledge. Seeing Sibrands attention turned he focuses and suddenly leaps towards the Teutonic Knight, Altairs leading leg slams into Sibrands chest knocking him to the ground. Altair then strikes swiftly by inserting his Hidden Blade precisely into his targets throat, killing him upon entry.

With his dying words, Sibrand explains his part in the Templars' scheme: he had comandeered every ship in Acre with the intent of establishing a blockade around the port, preventing Richard and other European monarchs from sending more troops to the Holy Land and&nbsp;thus making it easier for the Templars to destroy their enemies there and seize control of the kingdom.

Sibrands death marks the seventh in recent Major-Public Figure asasinations and is recorded in virtual history as the third in Acre.

Final Words
Sibrand: Please, don't do this!

Altaïr: You are afraid...

Sibrand: Of course I am afraid!

Altaïr: But you'll be safe now, held in the arms of your god.

Sibrand: Have my brothers taught you nothing!? I know what waits for me, for all of us!

Altaïr: If not your god, then what?

Sibrand: Nothing. Nothing waits...and that is what I fear.

Altaïr: You don't believe?

Sibrand: How could I, given what I know? What I've seen? Our treasure was the proof!

Altaïr: Proof of what?

Sibrand: That this life is all we have!

Altaïr: Linger a while longer then, and tell me of the part you were to play.

Sibrand: A blockade by sea, to keep the fool kings and queens from sending reinforcements once we, once we...

Altaïr: Conquered the Holy Land!?

Sibrand: Freed it, you fool, from the tyranny of faith!

Altaïr: Freedom!? You worked to overthrow cities, control men's minds, murdered any who spoke against you!

Sibrand: I followed my orders, believing in my cause, same as you.

Trivia
*Sibrand was a real-life leader of the Teutonic Knights: Meister (master) Sibrand. One of the first Teutonic Knights leaders, he was appointed around 1190.
*An in-game glitch can be found during Sibrand's assassination. To perform it, Sibrand must not be aware of your presence. When he is randomly shooting arrows on the front of his ship, approach and throw him into the sides of the boat. Sibrand will fall off his ship and into the water. You will then fail the mission (The game says that he has escaped). One of the reasons of failure for this mission is that his blood is required to complete the assassination and Altair cannot swim in-game. Or maybe Sibrand could swim (no proof as of yet and unlikely). This is unlikely as when assassinating William if you have him chase you to the upper walls of citadel it is possible to climb on top of the wall (he will as well) and push him off into the sea bellow; the same message will appear saying he has escaped because Altair cannot follow him down the cliff.&nbsp;
*There is also another "glitch" with this assassination. When Sibrand is at the front of the ship shooting his arrows and shouting, he is sometimes not wearing his helmet (which you clearly see him put on at the end of the starting cut-scene).
