'''Girolamo Riario''' (1443 - 14 April 1488) was Lord of [[Forlì]] and husband of [[Caterina Sforza]]. He was the father of [[Bianca Riario|Bianca]] and [[Ottaviano Riario]].

==Biography==
Born in Savona, Riario was the son of [[wikipedia:Paolo Riario|Paolo Riario]] and [[wikipedia:Bianca dela Rovere|Bianca della Rovere]]. He was a nephew of [[Pope Sixtus IV]], who granted him the seignory of [[wikipedia:Imola|Imola]], as a dowry for his marriage with [[Caterina Sforza]] (daughter of [[Galeazzo Maria Sforza]], Duke of Milan) in 1473. He took control of [[Forlì]] four years later.

Girolamo was an enemy of [[Lorenzo de' Medici]] (in fact, in real life, he was a member of the Pazzi Conspiracy) and the latter had hired the [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] to thwart several of Girolamo's plans, which was succesfully done.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II">''[[Assassin's Creed II]]''</ref>

By 1488, Girolamo had joined the [[Templars|Templar Order]] and was assigned to make a map of all the [[Codex]] pages scattered all throughout Italy. The same year, Caterina, an ally of the Assassin Order, hired the [[House of Orsi|Orsi brothers]] to kill Girolamo, partly because he was a Templar, but mostly because he had been, in her words, "a lousy father, boring in bed, and a pain in [her] ass".<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" />

==Trivia==
*In real history, he was one of the [[Pazzi]] conspirators against [[Lorenzo de' Medici]], but he has not been identified as this in the game yet (though he works with the Templars).
*Gamewise, he seems to be an enemy of [[Lorenzo de' Medici]] as some of [[Romagna]]'s [[Assassination Contract|assassination contracts]] involve killing his soldiers and agents.
*Aside from the database entry about the Orsi Brothers, Girolamo Riario can be seen in the game (albeit from the back). When Ezio and Leonardo are discussing Caterina, she and her husband can be seen arguing in the background: Leonardo even points him out during their conversation.

When talking about his status as an Assassin, Shaun says "I’ve killed before, I expect to kill again. It’s just that I’d prefer not to". This other side to Shaun's personality is also shown when he explains that he would like to sit in the Animus and perform Desmond's role.
