In the Assassin's Creed video game, the castle of Masyaf ((Arabic مصياف)) is the headquarters of the [[Assassins]] Guild, and home of [[Altaïr]] and [[Al Mualim]]. Masyaf has mountains that can been seen from the castle and the surrounding village. Masyaf is actually the smallest settlement outside of the kingdom. It is very quiet compared to the other cities ([[Acre]], [[Damascus]] & [[Jerusalem]]) and has fewer people in terms of population.

Masyaf is built on a mountain, the castle being at the top. The village appears to be more or less the same throughout the journey from top to bottom and occasionally you will encounter guards in groups of two talking to each other. They will become hostile in the same way as other guards despite them being subservient to Al Mualim.

The thugs in Masyaf can be pickpocketed in the same way as other thugs but will not attack you if you provoke them. It is unknown why they do not but one theory is that they are aware of the existence of the Assassins in their settlement and fear them.

There are (more or less) the same frequency of haystacks and other hiding places as in the cities in Masyaf.

There are no harrassers of any sort in Masyaf for some reason. The absence of beggars, jar carriers, and guards blocking your access to places make Masyaf a more idyllic location. Improvisational roleplaying is more peaceful but less exciting than in the other cities.

Masyaf is the first location after Solomon's temple that is encountered during the game.

There is an '''Assassin's Bureau''' in all three cities, it's basically a safe house for the Guild. The assassin's bureau's leader provides you with useful tips on where to get your information. As soon as you acquire enough information the leader will provide you with what appears to be one of the primary flight feathers of a white eagle, which is yet another nod towards the resemblance that Altair shares with the birds. Once you have collected all the information on an assassination target and it is possible to do so before entering the Bureau, the leader of the bureau within that city provides you with that same which is used to claim an assassination by running the feather through the blood of the mark. As proof of the assassination, Altair must return to the Bureau and present it as proof of his deed. The assassin's bureau will be closed when your current social status is revealed, to prevent guards from discovering the bureau and also to not have you violate the creed (never bring attention onto the brotherhood). The Assassin Bureau is a place where they also make swords, blades and other uselfull equipment.
