As was discussed, Edward met up with [[Edward Thatch|Thatch]] near [[Charles-Towne]] to find more medicines. Charles Towne was an English colony in modern day South Carolina that was founded in 1670, and was a walled city with nearly 4,000 residents by Edward's and Thatch's visit. Charles Towne was one of the wealthiest colonies in King George's empire, and was reigning in massive profits on indigo and rice harvests from plantations in the time of Edward's and Thatch's visit. Blackbeard most likely laid siege to the city because of the lack of a Royal Navy station ship, which would not arrive until the 1720s.

Born to a wealth family in the Barbados in the late seventeenth century, Stede Bonnet turned to a life of piracy supposedly because of a nagging wife at home. Having a generally unsuccessful run due to his nautical incompetence, and having been double crossed by the pirate Blackbeard who stole most of his gold, the pirate Stede Bonnet and the crew of his sloop the "Royal James" were captured by Colonel William Rhett and his militiamen from Charles Towne, South Carolina in a duel off the Cape Fear River in North Carolina in September of 1718. After a failed escape attempt in Charles Towne's walled city, Stede Bonnet was imprisoned in the town's guardhouse near the seawall, and executed with up to 29 of his men at Oyster Point despite pleas to the Governor he would become a Christian.
===Meeting Edward Kenway===
In 1715, Stede's [[schooner]], ''[[Revenge]]'' was waylaid by a [[Royal Navy]] warship off the coast of [[Cape Bonavista]], [[Cuba]]. The British suspected Stede of being involved in a nearby battle between a pirate warship and a passing vessel.

Despite denying this profusely, the British refused to accept his turn of events, intending to commandeer his vessel and marooning him. He was saved by the timely intervention of Edward Kenway, a pirate who had been involved in the engagement, and shortly beforehand assumed the identity of [[Duncan Walpole]], an [[Assassins|Assassin]] whom Edward had been forced to kill. Having saved Stede's life, the pirate offered to pilot ''Revenge'' to [[Havana]], where both of them had business. On arriving in Havana, Stede and Edward headed into the city, eventually ending up in a tavern.

There, Edward was recognized by a privateer, who knew of Kenway being a pirate, and of his ties to those in [[Nassau]]. The two engaged in a fight after Edward's attempt to silence him, drawing the attention of some nearby [[Spain|Spanish]] [[guards]]. Stede was mistaken for Kenway's accomplice and severely beaten by the guards, having his sugar confiscated in the process.

Once Kenway had returned from avoiding the soldiers, he found a battered Bonnet by the docks, who told the former that the soldiers had confiscated Edward's possessions, as well as the sugar. Edward then agreed to retrieve Bonnet's cargo at the same time as his own effects, but could not fulfill on his promise. Fortunately however, Stede was still able to make a profit with his remaining inventory, and Kenway then confessed his real first name to Bonnet.

Later on, Bonnet spotted Kenway with the [[Templars]] and excitedly called him by his real name, nearly blowing his cover, to which Kenway was quickly able to talk his way out of trouble. Kenway later met with Bonnet and complained about the small pay he received from the governor [[Laureano de Torres y Ayala]] for the items he brought. Bonnet, on the other hand, was really trying to inform Kenway of his great sales from the day.

During the following years, Bonnet went on to sail under [[Edward Thatch]] for a time, where he reunited with his old friend Edward Kenway, while searching for medicines for Nassau in the old ship wrecks. There, he became an unfortunate victim of Thatch's fear tactics, which frightened him speechless.

Later on, Thatch and his crew engaged in a British [[Man O' War]] and were eventually assisted by Kenway. After the battle, Thatch allowed Bonnet to leave his service, and helped Bonnet reacquire his old ship, which he renamed the ''[[Revenge]]''. Meeting Kenway for the final time, Bonnet joyfully bade his friend farewell, thanking him for their friendship, which was to him more precious than any treasure.

Bonnet and his crew foolishly chose a massive Man O' War as their first target, and most of the crew was lost during the battle. Bonnet survived, but was soon captured by British soldiers and hanged for his piracy. Eyewitnesses reported being moved to tears by his remorse in the last moments before the execution. However, Bonnet left clues for Edward Kenway, who followed in Bonnet's footsteps on the island of [[Saint Lucia]], and uncovered the secrets of the pirate's adventures.

==Personality==
Stede Bonnet was a jolly and gracious man, shown especially by his great respect for Edward Kenway, who saved his life, and his ability to see a silver lining to any situation. However, this came paired with naivety, as Bonnet clearly did not understand the potential dangers he could have faced while traveling with Edward, nor for the consequences of piracy, passing it off for grand adventure.

While sailing under Thatch, Bonnet showed more courage than earlier, being toughened up by living with the pirates. Of course, when Thatch was demonstrating to Edward what it meant to instill fear in men, Bonnet still cowered weakly when Thatch used him as an example. Despite this, Stede left Thatch's crew in good spirits, even commenting to Kenway the great impact that the man had on his self-esteem and confidence, as his last words to Kenway involved Bonnet thanking him for his help.

Anne was the daughter of Irish lawyer (not mentioned in the game) William Cormac, who fled to Charles Towne, South Carolina with his maid to escape embarrassment at home. He raised Anne from a young age, and legend has it she displayed piratical tendencies since she was a little girl. Eventually, she married her husband, James Bonny, a colonial sailor. At sixteen, she traveled with him to the West Indies, and the pair arrived in [[Nassau]] in April 1716. There, Anne became the center of romantic attention, which greatly strained their relationship, so much so that within a year their marriage had disintegrated.<ref name="AC4"/>

===Piracy and imprisonment===
As early as 1717, Bonny served as barkeep at the Old Avery tavern in Nassau, frequented by its pirate governors [[Edward Thatch]], [[Benjamin Hornigold]], [[Jack Rackham]], [[Charles Vane]] and Edward Kenway. In July 1718, Rackham flirtatiously passed Bonny her first flintlock pistol, just as [[United Kingdom|British]] forces arrived in Nassau.<ref name="AC4"/>

In 1719, [[Mary Read]] - whose masculine guise Anne readily saw through - recruited Bonny to a life of piracy. Together with Rackham, they committed acts of piracy against the British [[Royal Navy]].<ref name="AC4"/>

In October of 1720, Jack Rackham and his crew, including Bonny, were attacked by a British sloop commissioned by the Governor of [[Jamaica]], with the intent to take out Rackham. Being that most of the crew were drunk, many of the pirates provided little resistance. Only Bonny, Read and an unknown man fought to their full potential.<ref name="AC4"/>

Eventually, the crew was imprisoned and sentenced to be hanged. Bonny and Read were only spared because they were pregnant at the time, since British law prevented pregnant women from being executed. They were then confined to a prison in [[Kingston]], awaiting hanging when they came to term.<ref name="AC4"/>

As Bonny went into labor, she and Read were rescued by Edward and [[Ah Tabai]], who intended to transport them to [[Tulum]]. However, Read passed away from sickness following the birth of her child; Bonny soon gave birth to a boy and reached Tulum safely, but her son died soon after.<ref name="AC4"/>

===Quartermaster of the ''Jackdaw''===
Following [[Adéwalé]]'s departure to join the Assassins, Bonny became Edward's quartermaster aboard the ''Jackdaw''. She stood by his side as he hunted down [[Bartholomew Roberts]], as well as the [[Templars]] [[Woodes Rogers]] and [[Laureano de Torres y Ayala]].<ref name="AC4"/>

When the ''Jackdaw'' first landed in Kingston, Edward and Bonny met with the Assassin bureau leader, [[Antó]], who reported that Rogers was hosting a party before his recall to [[London]] for falling out of favor with the king; Bonny remarked that the king must have been displeased that Rogers hadn't fully purged the Caribbean of pirates. Bonny remained at the bureau while Edward killed and impersonated a visiting [[Italy|Italian]] diplomat in order to assassinate Rogers.<ref name="AC4"/>

After discerning Roberts' location in [[Príncipe]], Edward and his crew pursued Roberts' ship, the ''[[Royal Fortune]]''. Though Bonny suggested they simply sink the [[Man O' War|galleon]], Edward refused, as Roberts possessed a valuable [[Crystal Skulls|artifact]]. He instead crippled the ship before boarding and assassinating Roberts.<ref name="AC4"/>

Bonny and Edward then returned to [[Havana]] to find Torres. Anne stayed at the local bureau while Edward tracked down his final target, only to return to report that the man he assassinated was a decoy. Deducing that Torres was headed for the [[Observatory]], Edward decided to head there. Upon arriving, Bonny questioned why Edward would bring the Crystal Skull that Torres sought directly to him – Edward answered that he intended to taunt the [[Grand Master]] with it.<ref name="AC4"/>

Edward and Bonny then swam ashore and made their way through the jungle, freeing captive native [[guardians]] before arriving at the Observatory's entrance. Edward instructed Bonny to remain outside and guard the entrance, as well as protect the Crystal Skull, while he ventured inside to end Torres. Once the task was done, Bonny accompanied Ah Tabai and Adéwalé into the complex, where the Crystal Skull was reinserted into its rightful place. Edward was subsequently given a letter by Ah Tabai informing him that his wife [[Caroline Scott-Kenway|Caroline]] had passed away and that he had a daughter, [[Jennifer Scott]].<ref name="AC4"/>
