"Cudgel" Cormac was a member of the Templar Order active in the 19th century New York City and the grandson of Shay Cormac, a famous Assassin hunter and a Master Templar.

Biography
During his youth and like his father before him, Cormac was trained by his grandfather, learning to master Freerunning and Eagle Vision. Later, he also inherited the rifle of the Cormacs, gifted by Benjamin Franklin to his ancestor.

By 1863, Cormac was the feared barman of one of the city's pubs, where he was acting as the Templar contact with the gangs, being a trusted agent of Grand Master William M. Tweed. As such, he was tasked to convince the other gangs to participate in the riots organized by the Templars to turn the tide of the American Civil War in their favor. The night before the riots were scheduled to start, a letter of Tweed was delivered to Cormac, instructing him to stop an Assassin from stealing a Piece of Eden rumored to be hidden in the Aztec Club and to bring the artifact to his house.

Later, the Templar ambushed the Assassin Varius as he was leaving the Club with a Dagger of Eden, taking the artifact from his paralized foe but arrogantly decided to spare him. He then left as the riots were starting in the city, determined to bring the artifact to his master after sunset and prudently stayed out of the troubles, witnessing the riots from a church's bell tower. While agreeing that the Black citizens of New York were a necessary, yet sad, casuality of the Templar agenda, Cormac nevertheless decided to save the children of a black orphanage after it was set ablaze by rioters.

Eventually, as he reached Tweed's estate, the Templar discovered that guided by one of Tweed's servant, Eliza, Varius was also in the house and the two resumed their fight. They Freerunned on the roofs of the city while brawling, until Cormac inadvertently used the power of the artifact on Varius while ranting about his Templar ideals, throwing a knife at the confused Assassin, which hit him in the stomach.

However, as Cormac was about to finish the critically injured Assassin, Eliza, who followed them, used the rifle that Cormac lost during the fight to shoot a paralizing dart at the Templar. Enraged by the death of her father, beaten to death during the riots, Eliza threatened the powerless Templar which she knew was responsible, putting the Dagger on Cormac's throat. She nevertheless spared him, promising to return for him and Tweed later, before vowing to join the Assassins and to accomplish the mission of Varius, delivering the Dagger to General Ulysses S. Grant.

The Man O' War (plural: Men O' War), or Galleon – as the class was known in non-English speaking countries – was a class of warship operated by, among others, the British, French, Spanish and Portuguese navies. They often functioned as flagships for fleets due to their firepower and durability.

History
During the early 18th century, the Man O' War was among the most well-armed class of warship in operation throughout the Caribbean. Each ship of the class bore three masts, and was capable of fielding up to a hundred guns over three decks; on top of this, they were fitted with mortars, chain-shot, heavy shot and fire barrels, and the sheer amount of material used in their construction made them extremely robust. However, despite all of these major advantages, Men O' War possessed a major weakness in terms of their speed. As they were very slow, a well-armed, smaller ship could outmaneuver their broadsides and still land hits to destroy them.

One of the few Men O' War to fly the pirate colors was Bartholomew Roberts' Royal Fortune. It was also outfitted with stern cannons, coupled with the ones positioned on its sides and bow, ensuring that it could return fire from any direction. To mark them out from each other, British Man O' Wars had yellow and black painted hulls, while Spanish ones had a reddish-brown coloration.

Some time later, during the Seven Years' War between Britain and France, Templar Shay Cormac faced numerous Men O' War in the North Atlantic with his ship, the Morrigan. Most notably, Cormac fought against French and Assassin warships, being allied with both the British and Templar Order. Men O' War were extremely uncommon in the River Valley, as the waters were too shallow for a ship of that size. Near the end of the war, the French managed to get a Man O' War into the River Valley, using its mortars to bolster their firepower in the region.

James Cook was the captain of a Man O' War, HMS Pembroke, during the Seven Years' War. Shay was the helmsman of the Man O' War during the Battle of Louisbourg.

In the years surrounding the American Revolutionary War, the Assassin Connor faced many Men O' War along the East Coast with his ship, the Aquila, and was able to destroy them all, making the trade routes along the coast safer. These Men O' War possessed a significant weakness to chain-shot, which could destroy their masts and cripple them, leaving them an easy target.

Legendary ships
During the early 18th century, there were five "legendary" Men O' War that roamed the four corners of the Caribbean, each with their unique naval warfare styles and construction. Three of them belonged to the Royal Navy while two sailed under the flag of the Spanish Navy.

These five ships were significantly more well-armed, faster and armored than any other Men O' War in the Caribbean, and provided a significantly greater challenge to any would-be attacker. Their distinguishing characteristics made them notorious throughout the Caribbean, and they were feared by servicemen and pirates alike.

Each of these legendary ships was eventually sunk by Edward Kenway's Jackdaw, and their supply of gold, 20,000 reales on average, claimed by the pirate's crew.

Another pirate, Alonzo Batilla, also encountered several legendary ships, as he traveled across the West Indies. Each ship contained a great sum of coins and occasionally a lost file could be found after a ship had been sunk.

Years later, around the time of the Seven Years' War, there were seven more of these ships roaming the corners of the North Atlantic, all equipped with heavy armaments and supported by other ships. One of these ships was the fearsome Storm Fortress, under control of the Assassins. However, Shay Cormac defeated her and the other five ships by using the Morrigan.
*Historically, the official name for Man O' War is Ship-of-the-line and the term was used mainly for British and Colonial Navies.
The ' was a prolonged naval engagement fought between the Royal Navy and the French Navy during the French and Indian War, for control of the Fort of Louisbourg.

Background
After the death of Colonel George Monro, the former Assassin Shay Cormac was formally inducted into the Colonial Rite of the Templar Order by its Grand Master, Haytham Kenway. After a few days, Cormac and Kenway met in New York, and after a brief discussion about First Civilization Temples, Haytham informed Shay about Assassin activity near the Fort of Louisbourg.

Shay was also informed about the Royal Navy officer and explorer, James Cook, and his usefulness to the Templars, despite the lack of knowledge of the Order's existence on the captain's part. Shay and his quartermaster, Christopher Gist, met with James Cook and Haytham aboard the former's Man O' War, HMS Pembroke. Cook informed the Templars that a Royal Navy fleet had already set sail for Louisbourg, but the he was worried about the French defenses. Grand Master Kenway insisted on attacking the fort, and eventually convinced Cook to participate. Cook in turn offered command of his ship to Shay, for the duration of the battle.

The battle
On the day of battle, HMS Pembroke was approaching Louisbourg, escorted by two frigates. As the ships neared the fort, mortars fired by the French Men O' War destroyed one of the escort ships. In response, the Pembroke and the remaining frigate destroyed the first wave of French reinforcements.

After a successful retaliation, the ship of Assassin Adéwalé, the Experto Crede, led several fireships into the fray, destroying the other frigate. Under the advice of Gist, Shay did not attack the Assassin's brig, focusing on the fireships instead. Eventually, the fireships were joined by French reinforcements, but were soon attacked after British reinforcements arrived. This allowed to Royal Navy, which later arrived with an astonishing 40 Men O' War, to launch an offensive on the fort itself, and capture Louisbourg.

Aftermath
The proved to be the turning point of the Seven Years' War, weakening the French. Adéwalé's interference made him a target for the Templars, which was capitalized on by Shay and Haytham, who tracked down and eliminated him at Vieille Carrière.
