'''El Tiburón''' (English: ''The Shark''; unknown – 1722) was the mute personal bodyguard of [[Laureano de Torres y Ayala]], the [[Grand Master]] of the [[Caribbean]] [[Templars]]. Although he was not a Templar himself, his unwavering loyalty to Torres made him an asset to the Order.

==Biography==
{{Dialogue|Merchant|Good lord! Is that big brute your captain Mendoza?|Soldier|No, sir. He is El Tiburón. El Tiburón Governor Torres' man.|A merchant and soldier discussing El Tiburón's vocation, 1715.|Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag}}
Very little is known of El Tiburón before he entered into Torres' service. As the governor's bodyguard, he gained a frightening reputation that soon spread throughout the [[Cuba]]n capital of [[Havana]]. El Tiburón was also known to enjoy overseeing the hangings of criminals, which only added to his menacing character.<ref name="Encyclopedia">''[[Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia]]''</ref>

In July 1715, El Tiburón attended an execution, at which the [[Piracy|pirate]] [[Edward Kenway]] was also present. Although they did not interact with each other then, they would later meet at Torres' mansion, where Kenway pretended to be the [[Assassins|Assassin]]-turned-Templar [[Duncan Walpole]].<ref name="AC4">''[[Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag]]''</ref> During the induction, El Tiburón kept an eye on Kenway, suspicious of the man's true motives.<ref name="Encyclopedia"/>

The next day, El Tiburón accompanied the Templars to their meeting with [[Bartholomew Roberts]], a [[Sages|Sage]], and subsequently defended them from an organized group of Assassins who attempted to free Roberts. Thanks to his armor, which protected El Tiburón from the Assassins' [[poison darts]], he was able to overcame the attackers, demonstrating his strength when he hurled his axe across a full meter into an Assassin.<ref name="AC4" />

Although the Sage was able to break free, he was soon recaptured by Kenway and imprisoned at the mansion for further interrogation. That night, Roberts broke free from his cell, with the Templars only finding Kenway in his place. Realizing he was an imposter, El Tiburón swiftly incapacitated Kenway and prepared to beat him up, but was stopped by Torres. After a short interrogation, during which it became clear that the Sage had escaped by himself, Kenway was taken hold of by El Tiburón and [[Julien du Casse]], who sent him with the [[Spanish Treasure Fleet]] as a prisoner.<ref name="AC4"/>

In 1719, he accompanied Torres to [[Kingston]] to meet with fellow Templar [[Woodes Rogers]] and his newest recruit, [[Benjamin Hornigold]]. Years later, after the assassination attempt on Rogers and the death of Roberts, El Tiburón was tasked with guarding a body double of Torres at the [[Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta]], in an attempt to delay Kenway from pursuing the governor to the [[Observatory]]. On the way to the fort, El Tiburón and his escort came across two pirates threatening a number of soldiers, who watched in awe as El Tiburon brutally dispatched both pirates with his axe.<ref name="AC4"/>

When Edward assassinated the imposter at the fort, El Tiburón engaged him in combat,<ref name="AC4"/> swiftly gaining the upper hand thanks to his training as a soldier.<ref name="Encyclopedia"/> A number of Spanish soldiers joined the bodyguard in battle, but proved more of an obstruction than anything; whenever El Tiburón attempted to shoot Kenway, the pirate used a guard as a human shield. He was eventually killed by Kenway, who used [[Firearms|pistols]] to penetrate his armor. As El Tiburón lay dying, Kenway paid the man his final rites.<ref name="AC4"/>

==Trivia==
*It is possible, though difficult, for Edward to kill El Tiburón through other means than just pistols.
*Despite his death occurring in 1722, El Tiburón's database entry is never updated to include the date.
*Due to El Tiburón's unwavering loyalty towards Torres, the [[Abstergo Entertainment]] employee that wrote El Tiburón's database entry speculated there might have been a familial connection between the two.
*If Edward were to attempt to attack El Tiburón during the events of "[[...And My Sugar?]]" memory, he would kill Edward with a single blow.
*It is possible to pickpocket El Tiburón in the "[[Mister Walpole, I Presume?]]" memory. Doing so grants only one Spanish reale, however.
*He is the only Grenadier-like character who wields pistols as secondary weapons rather than grenades,like other Grenadiers do.
*Originally, Edward and El Tiburón were planned to have a confrontation at the end of Sequence 2, which would end with Edward losing the battle. For gameplay reasons, the fight was cut during development, though Edward's final lines to El Tiburón still refer to it.<ref>[https://twitter.com/DarbyMcDevitt/status/404846621147426816 Twitter.com/DarbyMcdevitt]</ref>
**However, this confrontation does appear in the novel ''[[Assassin's Creed: Black Flag]]''.
*Despite being the governor's personal bodyguard, El Tiburón was not by Torres' side during the latter's stay at [[Fort Matías|Punta Guarico]]. As such, he was not present when the governor was interrogated by Edward and his crew.
The '''British Army''' was a branch of the {{Wiki|British Armed Forces|Armed Forces}} of the [[United Kingdom|Kingdom of Great Britain]], alongside the [[Royal Navy]] and, later, the {{Wiki|Royal Air Force}}. It was formed in 1707 with the {{Wiki|Acts of Union 1707|Act of Union}} and focused on land-based warfare. Following Great Britain's triumph over the [[France|Kingdom of France]] in the [[French and Indian War]], which ended in 1763, the soldiers of the British Army occupied [[United States|Colonial America]] during the events of the [[American Revolutionary War]].

The superior discipline, skill-at-arms, equipment, organization, brutality and reputation of the British Army were major sources of intimidation to the initially amateur soldiers of the [[Continental Army]] during the American Revolution. During the conflict, the British Army received military support from their {{Wiki|Hessian (soldiers)|Hessian}} allies, mainly in the form of [[Jägers]]. However, as the war dragged on, British imperial needs elsewhere (mainly India), as well as intervention from France, the Dutch, and Spain, sapped the strength of the British army in America, fighting at the end of long supply chains.

The soldiers of the British Army, known as the Regulars, were often referred to as "Redcoats" or "Lobster-backs" by the general population during the [[American Revolution]], due to their distinctive red uniforms. While the facings of the uniform were known to vary by regiment, the red dye was maintained by most British troops, excluding the Horse Guards, bombardiers and riflemen.

==Arms and tactics==
The British Infantry Regulars of the 18th century were armed with the standard British Army smoothbore [[Firearms|flintlock musket]], often known as the {{Wiki|Brown Bess}}, and a fifteen inch [[Bayonets|socket bayonet]] that could be locked onto the end of the musket barrel, which was often employed when receiving cavalry or, obviously, during a bayonet charge. The battle cry "Huzzah" often accompanied a bayonet charge, for intimidation. Dragoons and other cavalry were armed with carbines and swords.

[[File:ACIII-Soldier 13.png|thumb|left|250px|Haytham Kenway fighting several British soldiers]]
British soldiers were drilled extensively in the use of these primary weapons, until they could load and fire their muskets with their eyes closed. A well-trained infantryman could average around three shots per minute from his musket, whereas a sub-par soldier could accomplish perhaps two. British officers usually armed themselves with flintlock pistols and [[Swords and maces|sabers]], although it was not unknown for light infantry officers to carry their own musket or rifle as the war progressed.

When on patrol, British soldiers usually marched in a column of 6-9 men. These groups consisted of one commissioned [[Officers|Officer]], a [[Snitches|Drummer]], four Regulars, and four [[Grenadiers]]. These numbers changed over the course of the Revolutionary War.

[[File:Battle of Bunker Hill 3.png|thumb|250px|British regulars at Bunker Hill]]
The British greatly emphasized mass line infantry fire and prized discipline. In this regard, punishment was strict for deserters and disobedience. Mass line infantry differed from, for example, the French firing patterns. The firing line allowed for the maximum number of muskets to be brought to bare on a target, and therefore the highest volume of fire. As the British army was a great deal smaller than its continental peers (particularly the French army), the need for good training was paramount.

The guerrilla warfare of the rebels was frowned upon by the British commanders, who considered it dishonorable, though the British Army did deploy similarly-trained soldiers. Many of the rebels were in fact trained by the British as light infantry, or "light bobs", and such units continued to be employed by the British, though they were scarcely used in place of line fire. It was found, however, that such guerrilla warfare, over time, was highly effective against the line and file tactics of the day, though the Regulars were hard to match in pitched battles or over open ground. Later British forces under General Cornwallis saw a greater increase in small unit tactics, but it was somewhat late in the war, and could not make an impact when arrayed against the combined American, Spanish, French and Dutch forces. However, these developments were later employed to great success with Ezekiel Baker's Baker Rifle and similar accurate weapons, making light infantry tactics greatly more viable.

Historically however, despite this advantage, the rebels had difficuties facing British cavalry even with the latter's use being limited in the war. The British 16th and 17th Light Dragoons in particular became a terror to the Patriot forces as many veterans of the French and Indian War in the colonies were not experienced in facing cavalry charges.

In the Battle of White Plains, British cavalrymen had broken the ranks of colonial forces. Fortunately for the rebels, it was costly to bring large number of cavalry units to the American continent and the terrain made it difficult to deploy horses. The lack of major cavalry support on the British side, allowed George Washington to retreat in many disastrous battles, such as the Battle of Long Island.

As many battles were focused around ranks of line infantry unleashing volleys of synchronized musket fire, and often in pursuit of an objective; many thousands of lives would be laid down for a small gain, although such battles were not to emerge until the development of conscription in 1791 by the French revolutionary government. The discipline of the British would allow soldiers to march past and over their fallen comrades and continue to fight for their objective, with a ferocity bred from poverty, as were the conditions in which many of the infantry were raised. Once the enemy lines faltered, British Dragoons and other cavalry units would draw swords and charge to cut down the remaining enemy soldiers.

==Trivia==
*Despite the British Army having withdrawn from {{Wiki|Colonial America}} in 1783, remnants of British Regulars could still be found around the [[Frontier]], [[Boston]], and [[New York City|New York]].
*The Grenadiers resembled a {{Wiki|Pioneer (military)|pioneer}}, which was a military unit whose tasks are specifically for construction and engineering, rather than actual grenadiers, who were used as elite troops to storm enemy battlements and fortifications. Each regiment in the British army contained at least one company of grenadiers, who were often issued with tall caps so that they could throw grenades. Inevitably, larger men could throw grenades further, so grenadiers were usually very large. However, as grenades fell out of fashion, grenadiers simply became shock troops, equipped like any other soldier.
*Despite the fact that [[Shay Cormac]] allied himself with the British Royal Navy and occasionally, the army, the soldiers would react with hostility to unusual behavior even if Shay helped them in fending off Gang members in New York if he was not in a specific mission or battle.
*British officer uniforms were based on the era's {{Wiki|Dragoon guards|Dragoons}}. Historically, however, Dragoons were a form of mounted infantry, who would ride into battle, dismount, and fight as infantry. They later became merely another form of cavalry as the carbines they carried became outmoded.
*In the ''[[The Tyranny of King Washington]]'', the British military joined in the rebellion against [[George Washington|King Washington]], evidenced by many red-coated corpses strewn around the Frontier and other cities.
The '''Siege of Louisbourg''' was a prolonged naval engagement fought between the [[Royal Navy]] and the [[French Navy]] during the [[French and Indian War]], for control of the [[Forts|Fort]] of [[Louisbourg]].

==Background==
After the death of Colonel [[George Monro]], the former [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Shay Cormac]] was formally inducted into the [[Colonial Rite of the Templar Order|Colonial Rite]] of the [[Templars|Templar Order]] by its [[Grand Master]], [[Haytham Kenway]]. After a few days, Cormac and Kenway met in [[New York City|New York]], and after a brief discussion about [[Isu|First Civilization]] [[Temples]], Haytham informed Shay about Assassin activity near the Fort of Louisbourg.

Shay was also informed about the Royal Navy officer and explorer, [[James Cook]], and his usefulness to the Templars, despite the lack of knowledge of the Order's existence on the captain's part. Shay and his quartermaster, [[Christopher Gist]], met with James Cook and Haytham aboard the former's [[Man O' War]], [[HMS Pembroke|HMS ''Pembroke'']]. Cook informed the Templars that a Royal Navy fleet had already set sail for Louisbourg, but the he was worried about the [[France|French]] defenses. Grand Master Kenway insisted on attacking the fort, and eventually convinced Cook to participate. Cook in turn offered command of his [[Ships|ship]] to Shay, for the duration of the battle.

==The battle==
On the day of battle, HMS ''Pembroke'' was approaching Louisbourg, escorted by two [[Frigate|frigates]]. As the ships neared the fort, mortars fired by the French [[Man O' War|Men O' War]] destroyed the escort ships. In response, Shay utilized the HMS ''Pembroke''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s own fire-power to sink the enemy ships.

After a successful retaliation, the ship of Assassin [[Adéwalé]], the ''[[Experto Crede]]'', led several fireships into the fray. Under the advice of Gist, Shay did not attack the Assassin's [[brig]], focusing on the fireships instead. Eventually, the fireships were joined by French reinforcements, but were soon destroyed after British reinforcements arrived. This allowed to Royal Navy, which later arrived with an astonishing 40 Men O' War, to launch an offensive on the fort itself, and capture Louisbourg.

==Aftermath==
The Siege of Louisbourg proved to be the turning point of the Seven Years' War, weakening the French. Adéwalé's interference made him a target for the Templars, which was capitalized on by Shay and Haytham, who tracked down and eliminated him at [[Vieille Carrière]].
