Reward: Bomb capacity upgrade - Ezio would gain an addition slot for bombs of all types.

Tips
Assassins
*Calling Assassins multiple times during the same fight counted towards calling them 25 times.
*To recruit more than eleven Assassins, Ezio could highlight a city in Mediterranean Defense and manage the guild by stationing an Assassin there, freeing up slots for him to recruit more civilians.
*To begin a Den Defense, Templar Awareness of Ezio must have been full, before he would commit illegal actions to cause the Byzantines to attack one of his Dens. The fastest way to ensure that this happened was for Ezio to renovate a few shops after a Templar Den was taken over, without lowering his Templar Awareness first.
*One way for Ezio to complete the Den Defense challenge was to replay the "On The Defense" memory, as the Den Defense carried out in the mission was much easier than subsequent attempts.
**Ezio could also complete this challenge by completing all of the Master Assassin missions for all seven Dens. This permanently secured the Dens and prevented Den Defense from becoming accessible, automatically filling in the requirement even if no Den Defenses had been attended beforehand.

Mercenaries
*Throwing civilians into scaffolds also counted towards the relevant challenge.
*Killing 25 Almogavars could be achieved by repeatedly playing the bomb memory "Piri Reis: Datura".
*It was advisable for Ezio to finish the killing streak challenges before the end of the second memory sequence, since the guard patrols would consist of Agiles and Elites, who were all vulnerable to streak kills. It was possible to obtain after the second memory sequence, but with Janissaries included within each patrol, the job would be trickier for Ezio to accomplish. The best chance for him to finish the task was by stirring up trouble at the Imperial District harbor, since there was at least two or three spots where two patrols met, providing Ezio with at least 8 guards to face at the same time.
*A very easy way to get kill streaks is also achieved by repeatedly playing the memory "The Fourth Part of the World" in which all enemies consist of Agiles and Elites. Running into the restricted zone and getting the attention of multiple guards, counter the first to start the killing streak and then continue it. After killing all guards in the area you can restart the memory and do it until you achieve the challenge.<br />

Romanies
*5 stalkers could be killed by Ezio through replaying "The Janissaries" memory repeatedly, as a stalker always appeared in the Grand Bazaar area. Accompanying this, one also appeared in The Deacon, Part 1 and Part 2 memories.
*In the Italian version of the game, there was a translation error that said Ezio needed to have killed 20 guards with the Hidden Blade to accomplish a challenge. Despite this, the challenge was actually scripted to be fulfilled with the crossbow only.

Thieves
*Sprinting 300 meters could easily be accomplished by Ezio in the Topkapı Palace courtyard, or through him running around in the Arsenal.
*Diving 30 meters could be achieved by leaping off of a ship's mast in the Arsenal district. There was also a chance for Ezio to do this challenge when he retrieved Sofia Sartor's package at the South Harbor, after the Assassin scared away Duccio de Luca. To achieve this, Ezio would have to simply climb the ship's mast after retrieving Sofia's package, before jumping to the water. As well as this, it would also give him a stealthy exit to complete the optional memory objective.

Bombs
*The challenges involving sticking 10 bombs and killing 20 guards with tripwire bombs could easily be accomplished by Ezio through sticking smoke bombs on a group of guards, before placing himself between them and laying down a datura tripwire bomb.
*Sticking 10 bombs and killing 25 guards incapacitated by bombs could be easily accomplished by the Assassin via sticking smoke bombs on a group of guards, before he tossed a splinter impact bomb at them.
*To complete the challenge for crafting one bomb of each effect, Ezio must make bombs with all 10 effects. To quickly craft bombs, Desmond Miles could open the weapon selection menu during his sessions in the Animus and highlight the bomb he wished Ezio to create, before he hit the "Add Bomb" button. Also, through staying near to a crafting table when Ezio did this, it allowed him to easily go back and make another bomb with another effect. Once he had crafted bombs with all 10 effects, Ezio would complete the challenge.
History
High Middle Ages
It is temptation.

By the Third Crusade, ten Templars had found the Apple, which remained hidden in the catacombs of Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem.

Some time afterwards, in 1191, the Templar Grand Master Robert de Sable sought to take the Apple for himself. Discovering this, Rashid ad-Din Sinan, more commonly referred to as Al Mualim, sent three of his Assassins - Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and the brothers Malik and Kadar Al-Sayf - to intercept him, and take the artifact to the Assassins' fortress in Masyaf.

Despite suffering a grievous injury to his left arm and losing his brother Kadar, Malik Al-Sayf was able to retrieve the Apple and bring it to Al Mualim, while Altaïr was routed by the Templars. Throughout the year, Al Mualim kept the Apple close at all times, while sending Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad to kill Robert and the other eight Templars who knew of the Apple.

During Altaïr's absence on a mission to kill Robert de Sable, Al Mualim hypnotized the Assassins and villagers of Masyaf, revealing himself to be a covert Templar, corrupted by the Apple's power. When Al Mualim was confronted by Altaïr after his return, Al Mualim utilized several of the Apple's abilities to defend himself, such as creating several illusions of himself.

However, Altaïr was able to kill Al Mualim and take the Apple. Joined by Malik Al-Sayf and three other Assassins, they witnessed a map showing the locations of more Pieces of Eden being emitted from the Apple. Altaïr, fearing that Al Mualim would still use the Apple's powers even after his death, intended to burn Al Mualim's body to be certain that he would not return from death - against the Assassins' rule to not burn a man's body. Altaïr's intentions were received both positively and negatively, with Altaïr's former friend and rival Abbas Sofian being the main person to stand against Altaïr.

The Order was temporarily split into two factions, with a fight erupting between the two after Abbas was angered by Altaïr after the burning of the Master's body, shoving him off the cliff they were standing on. Abbas quickly fled the scene and returned to Al Mualim's study, where he retrieved the Apple, and climbed a watchtower right outside the Masyaf fortress. However, Abbas was unable to use the Apple's powers properly, and the Apple started draining the life from various Assassins in Masyaf, including Abbas himself. Altaïr, less affected than the other Assassins, was able to obtain the Apple from Abbas before it killed him. Abbas apologized for his mistake, and the Order united under Altaïr.

Despite this accident, Altaïr carefully studied the Apple throughout most of his life, using it to advance the Assassin Order, creating several new techniques and weapons for the Assassins to use. Altaïr also carried it with him when journeying to Cyprus to eliminate the Templars there. Continuing to study it in secret, he wrote his discoveries in his Codex, and used it once in public to calm a mob that was falsely rallied against him.

In 1217, Altaïr, his wife Maria and son Darim had traveled to Mongolia to assassinate Genghis Khan and eliminate the Mongol threat. They returned to Masyaf ten years later, successful in their objective with help from the Mongolian Assassin Qulan Gal. However, in their absence, Abbas Sofian had killed Altaïr's second son Sef and imprisoned Malik Al-Sayf, later having him killed as well. With the acting leader, Malik, in prison, Abbas had created a council to lead the Assassin Order, with himself at its head. Altaïr and Maria faced Abbas to take the Order back, with Abbas demanding that Altaïr had over the Apple. Taunting Abbas, Altaïr let him take it, and Abbas' henchman Swami came to retrieve it. Revealing himself to be Sef's killer and that he told Sef that his father ordered his death before killing him, Swami felt Altaïr's anger reaching his body via the Apple upon touching it. A golden glow shining from his mouth, Swami started mutilating himself, killing Maria in the frenzy. Altaïr escaped Masyaf, eventually meeting with Darim along the way, and began a 20-year self-imposed exile in Alamut.

During those twenty years, Altaïr studied the Apple more, even managing to create a hidden gun. Additionally, the Apple led Altaïr to six Memory Seals. After those twenty years of exile, Altaïr returned to Masyaf and took the Order back from Abbas with virtue - gaining the support from the Assassins - and first tested the hidden gun on Abbas, killing him.

Upon regaining control of the Order once again, Altaïr ordered the construction of a library, intending to hide all his books there. A few years later, Darim met the Venetian tradesmen Niccolò and Maffeo Polo. Inviting them to stay at Masyaf in 1257, the two men were trained by Altaïr, then 92-years old, to become Assassins. After a month of training, Masyaf was attacked by the Mongols under command of Hülegü Khan, seeking retaliation for Genghis Khan's death. Altaïr passed on several of his books and his Codex to the Polo brothers, and before they left Masyaf, gave Niccolò five of the six Memory Seals, which Altaïr had turned into keys needed to open his library.

Altaïr and Darim returned to Masyaf fortress after repelling a Mongol attack, and bid each other farewell before the entrance to Altaïr's library. Darim was ordered to take Altaïr's remaining books with him to Alexandria, after which Darim realized that the library was not meant to be a library. Revealing that nobody must know what secret it contained, Altaïr entered the library and closed the gate behind him, making his way to the end of the library. There, he placed the Apple on a pedestal, before imprinting the sixth Memory Seal with a memory, and passing away.

Eventually finding the library, and retrieving Niccolò Polo's journal from a Templar captain called Leandros, who was trying to get into the library as well, Ezio made his way to Constantinople to retrieve the five keys and unlock the entrance to the library. After several months of searching, aided by the local Assassins Guild and a Venetian-Ottoman bookseller called Sofia Sartor, Ezio was able to obtain the keys and together with Sofia, made his way to Masyaf once again.

The Apple of Eden wielded by Ezio Auditore da Firenze during the Renaissance was a piece of ancient but technologically advanced equipment created by the First Civilization.

History
Move to Italy
In 1486, while hunting down the Venetian Templars, Ezio Auditore da Firenze learned from Silvio Barbarigo and Dante Moro that the Templars were setting their sails for the island of Cyprus. It was not until 1488, that the artifact was brought from Cyprus to Venice in L'Arsenale, with the artifact still encased in its original ornamental housing.

After the sailors handed it down to one of their associates, Ezio noticed his uncle, Mario Auditore, also watching the Templars from afar. Tailing the soldier, in hopes of leading him to the Spaniard, he followed him all the way to a secluded area, where the courier was given a short time to arrange things for the Spaniard's liking. After Ezio heard of the Spaniard's presence, Ezio knew that he should not let the opportunity of exacting revenge pass. Ezio stealthily infiltrated the courtyard and dispatched the courier and donned the man's armor, posing as a guard.

After donning the armor, and preparing the package, Ezio was greeted by a guard captain, who asked him not to ruin the delivery, unknown to him that he was talking to an Assassin. Obeying the captain's orders, Ezio brought the package to a secluded area by the Venetian canals, along with the captain and two more guards with him. Seeing the Spaniard, Rodrigo Borgia, after such a long time, Ezio prepared himself to confront the man responsible for his misery.

Stabbing the guard captain from behind, while holding the package, and dispatching the guards with him, Ezio confronted his family's destroyer.

After two bouts with Borgia, the latter of which involved Ezio fighting off Templar guards, all of the Assassins that had trained Ezio showed up to hold off the guards while Ezio himself dueled Borgia. In the end, Borgia escaped, and Ezio was greeted by all his allies, then told by Niccolò Machiavelli, who had just arrived on the scene, that he was the prophet of the Codex. A disbelieving Ezio demanded Machiavelli's name, which the Assassin promptly gave, then revealed all the others to be Assassins as well. Ezio was subsequently initiated into the Order.

Battle of Forlì
The Apple needs to remain in the citadel. Keep this safe

After arriving in Forlì in 1488, on a mission from Order to keep the Apple safe in the well protected city with their ally Caterina Sforza, Ezio, Caterina and Machiavelli were confronted by Checco Orsi and Ludovico Orsi, who attacked the city to gain the Codex map, unaware of the Apple's presence. After becoming aware of during the battle, the Orsi brothers kidnapped Caterina's children, Bianca and Ottaviano, and threatened to kill them if the Apple and the Codex map was not given to them.

Ezio left the Apple in Caterina's care and then set out to rescue Caterina's children, however, while he was away, Checco had taken the Apple from Caterina. Ezio pursued Checco on through the countryside and assassinated him, retrieving the Apple. However, Checco had stabbed Ezio in the lower abdomen and the Assassin collapsed. Before he passed out, Ezio witnessed a monk with a missing finger take the Apple from him. After recovering several days later, Ezio set out to find the identity of the monk, later being told that the monk was Girolamo Savonarola. Ezio then left for Florence to search for the monk.

Bonfire of the Vanities
You will do as I command! You will submit!
After arriving in Florence in 1497, Ezio learned that Savonarola was using the Apple to influence the city leaders to do his will, controlling the civilians in the process. After killing Savonarola's nine lieutenants, greatly reducing Savonarola's power in the city, the monk emerged from his dwellings where Ezio, Machiavelli, La Volpe, and Paola waited with the enraged crowd of civilians that had gathered. Savonarola begun to remind the civilians they should be submitting to his cause.

After this failed attempt, an enraged Savonarola drew the Apple and attempted to use it on the crowd in order control them. However, Ezio quickly threw a knife at Savonarola's hand, breaking the spell and causing the Apple to slip from his grasp. As the crowd carried Savonarola off, a Borgia guard took the Apple after it had slipped from Savonarola's grasp, however Ezio pursued the guard and retrieved the Apple once again for the Assassins.

The Vatican
Kind of you to bring me the Apple. Now give it here!

Upon arriving back at the Villa in 1499, Ezio and the other Assassins once again met to discuss their plan after the assemblement of all thirty Codex pages. Realizing that Rodrigo possessed the Staff of Eden through his ascension as Pope, Ezio prepared for his final confrontation with Rodrigo and traveled to the Vatican itself. Eventually confronting Rodrigo, Ezio lunged towards him, however, the Staff's power knocked him away. With the Apple, Ezio was able to resist Rodrigo's attempt to kill him with the Staff.

Rodrigo eventually overpowered the Assassin and took the Apple with him into the Vault. Ezio pursued him and finally defeated Rodrigo, he then used the Apple in conjunction with the Staff to open the Vault. Emerging from the Vault after hearing Minerva's message, Ezio escaped the Vatican with his uncle Mario. Subsequently Ezio and Mario took to the rooftops and made their way to a high tower overlooking a canal. Once there, Ezio withdrew the Apple of Eden from his cloak and prepared to drop it into the river, however, he hesitated. Acknowledging that destroying such a powerful artifact was not a decision to be made quickly, Mario offered to keep the Apple safe until Ezio had made up his mind, and the two rode back to their base of operations in the fortress town of Monteriggioni.

Fall of Monteriggioni
Subsequently the Apple was returned the Monteriggioni to be kept safe. However during the Siege of Monteriggioni, Mario tried to ensure the Apple's safety; however, the invading Borgia were able to breach the city with Mario barely alive and the Apple in the hands of Cesare Borgia. Subsequently after the conclusion of the siege, the Apple was now in the Borgia's possession. Cesare left it in the hands of Leonardo da Vinci for study, forcing him to craft several weapons War Machines from the Apple. Rodrigo soon took it from him and hid it inside St. Peter's Basilica, disapproving of the Apple being used in such ways.

War in Rome
Rodrigo eventually took the Apple from Leonardo without Cesare's knowledge and hid it at St. Peter's Baslilica, the courtyard pavilion. Additionally during the four years in which the Apple was in Borgia hands, the War Machines crafted were all eventually destroyed by Ezio. By August of 1503, Ezio infiltrated the Castel Sant'Angelo to assassinate Rodrigo and Cesare. Soon spying on Rodrigo, Cesare entered and demanded the Apple's whereabouts. Rodrigo however refused to tell his son.

However, after murdering his father for his attempted murder through poison, Cesare began interrogating Lucrezia Borgia, who knew the Apple's location. After giving in and telling Cesare, both him and Ezio raced for St. Peter's Basilica. However, Ezio subsequently arrived first. Approaching the pavilion, Ezio finally retrieved the Apple of Eden. However, Cesare immediately arrived with guards. Using the Apple to dispose of the guards, Ezio fled for Tiber Island. There he reported to his fellow Assassins of Rodrigo's demise and the recovery of the Apple.

Realizing that Cesare would attempt to rebuild his forces in the coming months, Ezio concluded the Apple would aid them in defeating Cesare. Throughout August to December, Ezio continued to weaken Cesare's military forces through the Apple, killing important assets with the Apple. Eventually however, Cesare gathered his remaining supporters at the gates to Rome. Confronting Cesare, Ezio and the Assassins destroyed his remaining supporters with the Apple. After Cesare's arrest, Ezio was unsure what do to, hence he discussed this with Leonardo and used the Apple to see the future. Seeing Cesare's escape, Ezio immediately left Rome.

Preservation
In 1506, Ezio hid the Apple in the Colosseum Vault, leaving it on the pedestal and sealing the Vault. The Apple remained there, only to be recovered in 2012.

Modern times
In 2012, the modern day Assassins Desmond Miles, Lucy Stillman, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane located the Apple of Eden using the Animus. After arriving at the Colosseum, Desmond made his way through the Colosseum to Santa Maria in Aracoeli, where he found an entrance to let the other Assassins in. While in the church, Desmond activated a pedestal that led them to the chamber where the Apple was located. Making their way up to the central platform, Desmond touched the Apple, causing his DNA to activate it. Through the Apple, Juno took control of his body and made him stab Lucy in the abdomen before causing him to go into shock.

Desmond, Shaun and Rebecca were retrieved from the Vault by his father William Miles and an acquaintance. Desmond was again placed into the Animus, in hopes of getting him out of his trauma. The Apple ended up in William's hands, though he realized he was not able to properly wield it. The Apple was taken with William, Desmond, Shaun and Rebecca when they relocated to New York City.

Abilities
In 1499, Ezio used the Apple in Rome to dispel the effects of the Staff of Eden, as well as to create four hologram doubles. While these doubles could not deal damage, they were able to distract Rodrigo during their battle. After Rodrigo stole the Apple, he combined it with the Staff to paralyze Ezio, then to create the key to the Vault, which he claimed held a "god-felling weapon." In the Vault, Minerva upgraded the Apple.

In 1503, Ezio was briefly able to use the Apple as a weapon. By charging it, a golden perimeter spread around him, followed by a smaller, white perimeter (though these circles decreased slightly upon release). Enemies within the golden circle of effect would proceed to fight each other, while enemies in the white circle would fall to the ground in agony, which was depicted as a kill-by-insanity.

If the golden perimeter affected an enemy with no other enemies around to attack (or if all other enemies had already been killed) the affected enemy would just fall to his knees and beg for mercy. The Apple could also be used in a counter-attack, where briefly activating its effects just as an enemy attacked resulted in an instant kill.

Using the Apple appeared to weaken its user; it is unknown whether this was due to overuse of its powers, or of a desynchronization between Desmond's and Ezio's memories, although it is probably the former, as Desmond could make use of the Apple until, apparently, Ezio automatically stops using it.

Trivia
*The Apple is mentioned as an important icon in many religious writings; most notably as the "Fruit of Knowledge" in the Garden of Eden.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the Apple affects and can potentially kill almost anyone, including allies (such as mercenaries and Assassin recruits) and civilians.
*Using the Apple will drain the player's health, with a greater area of effect draining a greater amount of health; though health will recover faster over time. Additionally, if a guard attacks while Ezio is charging the Apple, the guard will drop and start bleeding, regardless the ring he is in. Also, guards will die if they attack Ezio while he is recovering.
*During the confrontation with Savonarola, if the player fails to press the relevant hotkey in time, Machiavelli, instead of Ezio, will throw a knife at Savonarola's hand.
