'''Achilles Davenport''' (c. 1710 – 1781) was the [[Mentor]] of the [[Colonial Assassins|Colonial Brotherhood]] of [[Assassins]] from 1746 until 1763. A man of [[Caribbean]] and [[United Kingdom|British]] descent, Achilles' tenure as leader of the Colonial Assassins saw the Brotherhood strengthen greatly.

After a [[1763 Colonial Assassin purge|large-scale attack]] on the Assassins by the [[Colonial Rite of the Templar Order|Colonial Rite]] of the [[Templars|Templar Order]] in 1763, spanning the [[United States|Thirteen Colonies]], the Brotherhood collapsed and disbanded. Living in exile in his [[Davenport Homestead|manor]], Achilles abandoned the Assassin ideology until his meeting with the young [[Ratonhnhaké:ton]], whom he started to train on the boy's behest. Achilles spent his final years guiding Ratonhnhaké:ton, and this tutelage led to his apprentice's important role in the [[American Revolution]] and the extermination of the colonial Templars.

==Biography==
===Early life===
{{Quote|You were but a wee bairn when I last saw you. We would not even let you carry a real blade.|Rhona Dinsmore in a letter to Achilles, 1751.|Assassin's Creed: Rogue}}
Born around 1710 in the Caribbean, Achilles was recruited into the Assassin Order in the mid-1730s and trained as the last student of [[Ah Tabai]], Mentor of the [[Caribbean Assassins|Caribbean Brotherhood]]. During his training, he was described by [[Rhona Dinsmore]] as a "serious child". It was also the period during which Achilles met [[Adéwalé]], whom he came to view as a great inspirational figure.<ref name="ACRG">''[[Assassin's Creed: Rogue]]''</ref>

===Establishment of the Colonial Brotherhood===
{{Quote|I have arrived in the British colonies to the North. While it saddens me to know that I will never see you again, nor benefit from your wise council, I look forward to the challenge of creating a Brotherhood here that will rival the one you created in [[Tulum]].|Achilles' letter to Ah Tabai, 1740.|Assassin's Creed: Rogue}}
In 1740, Ah Tabai made the decision to send Achilles to the British colonies in order to establish a new Brotherhood in North America. Upon arriving in the colonies, Achilles was surprised to discover that he was not the first Assassin to have arrived there, meeting with [[John de la Tour]], whom he learned was working under direct command of the [[Assassin Council]] operating in [[France]].<ref name="ACRG"/>

In 1743, Achilles officially inducted [[Liam O'Brien]] into the Brotherhood, a young man he had previously met in 1738, who became his first student. With his aid, Achilles was able to gain valuable allies among several colonists across the frontier, as well as from those of the [[French Army|French]] and [[Spanish Army|Spanish]] empires, including [[Louis-Joseph Gaultier, Chevalier de la Vérendrye|Chevalier de la Vérendrye]], who encountered and aided Achilles and Liam on an mission in 1744.<ref name="ACRG"/>

In 1744, Achilles and de la Tour traveled to [[Quebec]] in search of [[Mathieu Léveillé]], a [[Slavery|slave]] suspected of possessing valuable information regarding the [[First Civilization]]. However, the Assassins learned that Léveillé had passed away from an illness the year prior, but also discovered that the government had arranged a marriage between Mathieu and [[Abigail Davenport|Angélique-Denise]], though the ceremony never took place and she was subsequently put up for slave auction. In the spur of the moment, de la Tour bought the rights to Angélique-Denise, from whom Achilles learned that Léveillé was able to share his Precursor knowledge before his death, and that her chosen name was Abigail.<ref name="ACRG"/>

In May 1745, Achilles and Abigail accompanied John to [[Louisbourg]] in order to locate a safe house under the ownership of [[Nicolas Court]], a [[Hermeticists|Hermeticist]] whom de la Tour believed possessed valuable information regarding the First Civilization [[Temples]]. In order to avoid detection, Achilles and Abigail posed as his slaves, which proved beneficial in allowing them to access restricted areas in the city, and was a tactic John accepted. However, Achilles held a different view on their strategy, but was eventually eased into cooperating by Abigail.<ref name="ACRG"/>

Unfortunately for them, as European conflicts had reached America, British troops then descended into the city. With haste, Achilles and John journeyed to the Louisbourg Fortress, where they attempted to enlist the aid of the French government, but were declined as the French attempted to reclaim their captured territory through treaty negotiations, a tactic of which the Assassins did not approve. With no alternative, Achilles and John helped prepare the fortress' defenses for the impending British attack, while Abigail searched the remainder of the city for the safe house.<ref name="ACRG"/>

Time eventually ran out as the conflict between the French and the British came, and Achilles was then presented John's Assassin robes and officially named "Mentor" of the Colonial Brotherhood, acknowledging that the Templars would use this battle for their own gain. John shook his friend's hand and immediately took off to fend against the invading British troops, subsequently sacrificing himself to give Achilles time to complete their intended mission. Achilles eventually reunited with Abigail, who had finally located the storehouse, but they found no sign of Nicolas himself there, only a note with the words "SEEK OUT THE SKY WOMAN".<ref name="ACRG"/>

===Mentor===
{{Quote|Brothers and Sisters, I am writing to inform you that a new Brotherhood is being created in the New World. Already I have allies amongst English colonists, French colonists, and the indigenous people of the area. I have sent similar letters of friendship across the known world. For I believe that we are growing ever more connected, day by day. If my Brotherhood is to succeed, we will need allies from all empires, of all genders, of all races, who believe in the same thing: The Creed. I hope I can count you among them.|Achilles' letter, 1746.|Assassin's Creed: Rogue}}
By 1746, Achilles formally became the Mentor of the Colonial Brotherhood, as he had a gift for both recruitment and organization. Under his leadership, the Assassins built a homestead which they used a base of operations and spanned across the colonies and most of the [[Frontier]]. Additionally, Achilles maintained contact with numerous other Assassin guilds across the globe, while also strengthening relations with the [[Iroquois]] tribes as well as a woman named [[Kaniehtí:io]].<ref name="ACRG"/> Around this time, Achilles befriended the colonial activist [[Samuel Adams]].<ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Initiates]]''</ref> Achilles eventually married Abigail and fathered a son, [[Connor Davenport]]; however, both died of typhoid fever in 1754.<ref name="ACRG"/>

Achilles' Brotherhood prospered greatly with the addition of prominent members, including Chevalier de la Vérendrye, who had strong ties to the French government. In the same year, upon aiding the French Army, Achilles and Liam encountered [[Kesegowaase]], a native mercenary. Achilles, impressed by his skill and determination, then recruited him into the Assassins, which proved beneficial as his influence helped recruit local hunters and warriors into the Brotherhood. Additionally, in [[New York]], Achilles came into contact with a young woman named [[Hope Jensen]]. Impressed by her [[pickpocketing]] and survival tactics, he inducted her into the Order in 1747, where Achilles tasked her into controlling New York's organized [[Gangs|crime]].<ref name="ACRG"/>

During the same year, Liam introduced Achilles to [[Shay Cormac]], a friend who was coping with the loss of his father at sea. Achilles allowed Shay to join the Brotherhood due to his knowledge of seamanship and aptitude, training him over the next four years. By 1748, Achilles invited fellow Assassin [[Maria van Antwerpen]] to join him in the colonies. Maria declined the offer however, noting her obligations to the Dutch Army.<ref name="ACRG"/>

In 1749, Achilles was informed by the [[French Assassins|French]] Assassin Council of the completion of the ''[[Aquila]]'', a [[Ships|ship]] which was meant to serve as a foundation for the Assassin navy. The following year, during Achilles' tenure as ''Aquila''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s captain, he rescued [[Robert Faulkner]], a veteran sailor who was grateful for the Assassins' aid. In return, Faulkner offered his services in creating a shipping route connecting the Colonial Assassins with the European branches of the Brotherhood. By 1753, Achilles officially inducted Faulkner into the Assassin Order, granting him the position of first mate aboard the ''Aquila''.<ref name="ACRG"/>

===Search for the Temples===
{{Dialogue|Shay|WE are responsible for killing innocents and destroying cities. This... mad grab for power. It ends now.|Achilles|I will not let you destroy everything we have built!|Shay and Achilles arguing over the principles of the Assassin Order, 1756.|Assassin's Creed: Rogue}}
During the [[1751 Port-au-Prince earthquake]], the Assassins lost the [[Precursor box]] and [[Voynich manuscript|Manuscript]], which allowed them to locate several First Civilization Temples. In 1752, Adéwalé visited Achilles in order to collect supplies for the survivors of the earthquake in [[Port-au-Prince]].<ref name="ACRG"/>

The pair discussed the progress of [[François Mackandal]]'s own search for the Temples, with Adéwalé mentioning that [[Vendredi]], Mackandal's student sent to retrieve the artifact from the Temple in [[Haiti]], had not returned. Following Adéwalé's departure, Achilles entrusted the search for the Precursor Temples to one of his students, Shay Cormac. This eventually led the Assassins to discovering one of the [[Lisbon Temple|Temples]] in [[Lisbon]].<ref name="ACRG"/>

Shortly after the discovery, Shay traveled to Lisbon to secure the artifact. However, he discovered that the Temples did not house typical [[Pieces of Eden]], but were designed to keep the world intact, and disturbing them could cause seismic activity powerful enough to level entire cities. Achilles refused to believe Shay, and ordered the Assassins to hunt him down when Shay attempted to steal the manuscript from the Davenport manor, believing it would prevent the Assassins from finding other Precursor sites.<ref name="ACRG"/>

As a result, Shay was cornered by the Assassins at a cliffside and shot by Chevalier de la Vérendrye, falling into the ocean. The Assassins believed that Shay had perished and the manuscript lost, but unbeknownst to them, Shay was rescued by the men of a [[British Empire|British]] [[British Rite of the Templar Order|Templar]], Colonel [[George Monro]]. To prevent Achilles from finding the other Temples, Shay subsequently began hunting down his former comrades, while the Assassins attempted to find the manuscript once again.<ref name="ACRG"/>

===Decline of the Colonial Assassins===
{{Dialogue|Haytham|Never forget what has happened here.|Achilles|I won't... but the world will.|Haytham and Achilles, after the former shot the latter in the leg, 1760.|Assassin's Creed: Rogue}}
After Shay eliminated key figures within the Colonial Brotherhood over the course of the [[French and Indian War]], Achilles and Liam O'Brien remained as the only high-ranked Assassins by March 1760. The pair undertook a journey to another Temple which was discovered in the arctic, but were pursued by Shay and [[Haytham Kenway]], the [[Grand Master]] of the Colonial Rite of the Templar Order.<ref name="ACRG"/>

Reaching the heart of the temple, Achilles realized that there wasn't an [[Apples of Eden|Apple of Eden]] as he had hoped. To his dismay, he recognized that Shay had indeed been correct, just in time for an embittered Shay to interject that if Achilles had simply listened to him, the calamity could have been averted. Despite this revelation, a vengeful Liam tried to shoot Shay, though Achilles in his penitence tried to stop him. In the ensuing skirmish, the site was disturbed in a similar manner to Haiti and Lisbon, causing an seismic tremor.<ref name="ACRG"/>

Having managed to escape the Temple, Achilles dueled Haytham, with the latter proving the victor. As Haytham neared to deliver the finishing blow, Shay intervened, arguing that Achilles could warn any remaining Assassins not to go after the Precursor sites. Abandoning his animosity, Haytham decided to allow Achilles mercy, but to ensure that he could no longer remain active as an Assassin, Haytham shot Achilles in the right shin, permanently crippling him.<ref name="ACRG"/>

===Meeting Ratonhnhaké:ton===
{{Quote|The world's moved on, boy. Best you do too.|Achilles' discouragement to Ratonhnhaké:ton, 1769.|Assassin's Creed III}}
Following the purge, Achilles went into exile in the wilderness of the Frontier, residing alone at the Davenport Manor for the next six years. In 1769, Achilles was chased by bandits seeking his property. While fleeing their pursuit, he yelled at Ratonhnhaké:ton, a young [[Kanien'kehá:ka]] boy, to move out of the way of his [[Horses|horse]].<ref name="AC3">''[[Assassin's Creed III]]''</ref>

[[File:ACIII-BoorishMan 3.png|thumb|250px|left|Achilles meeting Ratonhnhaké:ton]]
After fighting off the bandits, Achilles was greeted by the boy at his doorstep, who wished to be trained in the ways of the Assassins; Achilles coldly refused, dismissing him. Ratonhnhaké:ton, however, camped in the manor's stables for the night, and knocked on Achilles' door the next morning. Again, Achilles declined, angrily yelling at Ratonhnhaké:ton to leave, prompting the young man to go as far as climbing and attempting to enter the manor from the balcony. Achilles then approached Ratonhnhaké:ton, tripped him onto the floor with his walking cane, and warned him to give up his heroic pursuits or he would end up dead.<ref name="AC3"/>

Stubbornly, Ratonhnhaké:ton departed and once again camped out in the stables. During the night, he encountered the bandits approaching onto Achilles' property and bravely combated them, though he was knocked to the ground and lay vulnerable. Despite refusing Ratonhnhaké:ton earlier, Achilles rescued the boy by stealthily killing the remaining robbers, and asked him to get rid of the bodies before he could come inside the manor to speak.<ref name="AC3"/>

[[File:ACIII-BoorishMan 13.png|thumb|250px|Achilles explaining the Templar agenda]]
There, Ratonhnhaké:ton explained that he was guided to find a symbol by a "[[Juno|spirit]]", eventually leading him to the old man's residence. Achilles in turn revealed that [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] was the one responsible for the First Civilization contacting the Assassins time and time again, before explaining the nature of the war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.<ref name="AC3"/>

In the basement, Achilles revealed the portraits of the Templar conspirators: [[William Johnson]], [[John Pitcairn]], [[Thomas Hickey]], [[Benjamin Church]], [[Nicholas Biddle]], [[Charles Lee]], and the Grand Master Haytham Kenway, whom Ratonhnhaké:ton explained had fathered him with Achilles' Iroquois ally [[Kaniehtí:io]]. Achilles agreed to train Ratonhnhaké:ton, to assist him in becoming an Assassin, in order to ultimately eliminate the Templars who were aiming to seize control of the colonies.<ref name="AC3"/>

===Rebuilding the Homestead===
{{Quote|This crowd is a powder keg - we can't allow him to light the fuse.|Achilles to Connor before the Boston Massacre, 1770.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:ACIII-TriptoBoston 2.png|thumb|250px|left|Achilles and Connor in Boston]]
After six months of rigorous physical and mental training, Ratonhnhaké:ton accompanied Achilles on a trip to Boston to gather materials for the manor's repairs. While in the streets, Achilles sent Ratonhnhaké:ton to a store to purchase items, also giving him the less conspicuous name "Connor," the namesake of his deceased son. Not long after, Achilles and Connor witnessed the [[Boston Massacre]], instigated by Haytham and Charles Lee. Connor attempted to prevent the massacre, but was framed and became a wanted man. In response, Achilles asked [[Samuel Adams]] to find Connor, before he returned to the Davenport Homestead.<ref name="AC3"/>

[[File:ACIII-HardWay 16.png|thumb|250px|Achilles initiating Connor into the Brotherhood]]
After Adams had helped Connor clear his name and take a ferry home, Achilles and Connor continued in their efforts of rebuilding the homestead. After six months of further training and lessons in learning the Assassin and Templar history, the ''Aquila'' was repaired and fit for setting sail; once he had been given nautical training by Robert Faulkner, Connor returned to the manor. Achilles then led Connor down to the manor's basement, in order to bestow upon him the Assassin robes that resided there.<ref name="AC3"/>

Though Achilles admitted that the Order usually had a ceremony for such an occasion, neither he nor Connor seemed the type for such formality. Instead, after Connor had donned the robes, Achilles simply verbally welcomed him into the Brotherhood of Assassins.<ref name="AC3"/>

===Hunt for William Johnson===
{{Quote|Connor, take care. These men are powerful.|Achilles to Connor before going after Johnson, 1773.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:ACIII-JohnsonTrail 1.png|thumb|250px|left|Achilles explaining the rope dart to Connor]]
Connor donned the Assassin robes and Achilles introduced him to [[rope darts]], which the latter explained to be a tool that resulted from [[Shao Jun]]'s time in [[China]] after meeting Ezio. Some time subsequently, Connor's close friend [[Kanen'tó:kon]] visited, revealing that William Johnson intended to purchase the Kanien'kehá:ka land and subjugate their people to relocate.<ref name="AC3"/>

An outraged Connor condemned this as little more than theft, though Achilles advised caution to his pupil, reminding him of how powerful the Templars were. Connor stated that he had no choice, as he had made a promise to protect his people and land. Reluctantly, Achilles instructed him to seek out Samuel Adams in Boston. To his annoyance however, Connor buried a hatchet in the post of the manor to signify the start of a war, though Achilles insisted that he could have used a tree.<ref name="AC3"/>

As Connor departed, he came across an injured woman named [[Myriam]], who he soon carried back to the mansion so Achilles could tend to her wounds. Connor then set forth to track down the poachers who attacked her, to which Achilles advised Connor use the rope dart he had just given him, to familiarize himself with it. After ridding the Homestead of the poachers, Achilles watched as Connor and Myriam reached a deal to establish hunting rights for the game on their land.<ref name="AC3"/>

After his work in Boston was completed, which involved destroying a shipment of British tea that Johnson and the Templars had been smuggling to profit from taxation, Connor believed that this would stop the Templars and keep his land safe. However, Achilles warned Connor not to underestimate Templars' resourcefulness. Six months later, Connor set out and successfully assassinated Johnson, ending the Templar threat to steal the Kanien'kehá:ka land.<ref name="AC3"/>

===Beginning of the Revolution===
{{Quote|It's a start. But to truly be free of Templar influence, all of them must be dealt with in turn. Even your father.|Achilles to Connor after the latter assassinated Johnson, 1775.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:ACIII-Midnightride 2.png|thumb|250px|Achilles and Connor discussing their next move]]
In 1775, Connor was approached by a courier sent by [[Paul Revere]], requesting his help. Connor declined, not considering himself part of the [[Patriots]]' struggle. However, Achilles urged Connor to go, since he would need their aid in assassinating John Pitcairn of the British Army, another Templar.<ref name="AC3"/>

Achilles later requested that Connor retrieve his robes hidden in a cave on the Homestead, since Achilles himself was too frail to make the journey. Connor succeeded, to which Achilles explained that the robes originally belonged to the first Colonial Assassin, John de la Tour, who passed them down to Achilles. Connor joined the Patriots against the [[British Army]], during which he fought in the Battles at Lexington and Concord, and successfully assassinated Pitcairn during the Battle at Bunker Hill. With Pitcairn's death, Connor discovered the Templar plot to murder [[George Washington]].<ref name="AC3"/>

===Protecting Washington===
{{Quote|Your struggle is the colonists' struggle. In helping one, you help the other.|Achilles to Connor.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:ACIII-Publicexecution 8.png|thumb|250px|left|Achilles handing Connor his tomahawk]]
Connor returned to the Homestead, where Achilles introduced Connor to [[Benjamin Tallmadge]], an Assassin ally. Soon after, Connor traveled to [[New York City|New York]] to assassinate Thomas Hickey, in order to prevent the planned murder of Washington. However, Connor was imprisoned, framed for the attempted murder of Washington, and sentenced to death.<ref name="AC3"/>

Hearing the news, Achilles and Connor's [[Apprentices|Assassin recruits]], [[Stephane Chapheau]], [[Duncan Little]] and [[Clipper Wilkinson]], traveled to New York to rescue Connor. As he was escorted to the gallows by Hickey, Connor was approached by Achilles from the crowd, who reminded him that he still had allies and only needed to signal them. Once called, one of Connor's recruits fired an arrow to sever the noose, but it only damaged the rope in the process. Hidden among the people gathered, Haytham intervened, throwing a [[Throwing knives|knife]] and severing the noose with it, causing a panic among the crowd. As Connor fell underneath the gallows, Achilles handed him a [[Assassin Tomahawk|tomahawk]], with which he succeeded in killing Hickey, saving Washington in the process and proving his innocence.<ref name="AC3"/>

Consequently, both Achilles and Connor traveled to [[Philadelphia]], where Connor witnessed the signing of the [[Declaration of Independence]], to meet with Washington. While walking through [[Independence Hall]], Achilles admitted to Connor that he was impressed by his accomplishments so far. However, he also attempted to discourage Connor from revealing the Templars to Washington, concerned that it would only distract the Commander, thereby harming the Patriots' efforts to achieve their freedom.<ref name="AC3"/>

===Connor's alliance with Haytham===
{{Quote|In your haste to save the world, boy - take care you don't destroy it!|Achilles' warning to Connor.|Assassin's Creed III}}
Unfortunately, Achilles and Connor began to drift apart over the next few months, disagreeing over courses of action. While Connor believed he should tell Washington the truth of the Templar plots against him, Achilles argued the opposite, warning that such a misguided effort would only involve and endanger Washington and the lives of his men.<ref name="AC3"/>

[[File:ACIII-Missingsupplies 1.png|thumb|250px|Achilles arguing with Connor]]
The argument came to a head in the winter of 1777, as Connor decided to inform Washington of the Assassins and Templars. Achilles lectured Connor, informing him that the Assassins were meant to be secretive in order to protect others. In turn, Connor criticized Achilles' inaction as a mentor and even blamed him for failing the Assassin Brotherhood and allowing the Templars to dominate the Colonies. Achilles, however, deplored Connor's actions, warning him that he would only lead people and the world to ruin. Ultimately, Connor decided not to tell Washington once he met with him at [[Valley Forge]].<ref name="AC3"/>

Connor would go on to hunt for Benjamin Church to recover stolen weapons and supplies for Washington. After which, he returned to the Homestead and apologized to Achilles for speaking against him unfairly, though Achilles did admit that he failed the Brotherhood. Connor also revealed that he had met his father, and despite their differences, he believed that an alliance and possibly further peace could be established.<ref name="AC3"/>

===Final days===
{{Quote|So long as he lives, all are in danger. The same is true for your father. When you first came to me, you understood what had to be done. Swore you'd see it through. [[File:ACIII-BattleofChesapeake 1.png|thumb|250px|left|Connor trying to convince Achilles regarding Haytham]]
By 1781, Achilles had been weakened by age, leaving him bedridden. Connor explained that Charles Lee had been disgraced, but Washington had spared him. Achilles stated that both Lee and Haytham had to die, despite Connor's continued insistence that without Lee, his father may be willing to ally with him. However, Achilles warned Connor not to be misguided by his emotions.<ref name="AC3"/>

At some point before his death, Achilles requested Connor retrieve a painting from the [[Great Fire of New York|burned remains]] of his home in New York. Connor returned, however, Achilles decided to not yet reveal and hang the painting until the time was right.<ref name="AC3"/>

===Death===
{{Quote|I am grateful to have met you, knowing you will guide this land and these people to a better future. Yours in brotherhood, Achilles.|Achilles' final words written to Connor.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:Legacy 5.png|thumb|250px|The Homesteaders attending Achilles' funeral]]
Not long after Connor's errand, Achilles passed away quietly in his sleep. When Connor discovered his body, he also uncovered a note addressed to him in Achilles' handwriting. Written within, Achilles apologized for never being able to say goodbye to Connor properly, and also thanked him, expressing pride and gratitude in Connor for the community he had raised at the Homestead, which had given Achilles hope for the future of America and its people.<ref name="AC3"/>

A funeral service was held on the hill, behind his manor overlooking the sea, next to the gravestones of his wife and son; this event was attended by all of the inhabitants of the Homestead that Connor had brought together. While others laid roses on his coffin, wrapped in the Davenport Homestead flag, Connor placed a [[Feathers|feather]] on the casket, symbolizing the bond they shared as Assassins.<ref name="AC3"/>

Following Achilles' passing, Connor inherited his robes, placed the painting of his family on the wall in the manor, and later attended to the grave to pay his respects, hoping that Achilles had found peace and the two would one day meet again.<ref name="AC3"/>

==Personality and characteristics==
{{Quote|Let me tell you something, Connor. Life is not a fairy tale and there are no happy endings!|Achilles to Connor.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:ACIII-BoorishMan 5.png|thumb|250px|left|Achilles attempting to dissuade Ratonhnhaké:ton]]
Since his childhood, Achilles was described by many as having a serious demeanor; this trait was presumably received from his Mentor, Ah Tabai, whose wise teachings were then bestowed onto him. It was his skill and dedication towards the Assassin cause that convinced Ah Tabai to send Achilles to the Colonies in the hope of expanding the Brotherhood, at around his mentor's passing Achilles wrote one final note thanking Ah Tabai for all that he had given to him.<ref name="ACRG"/>

While he was the leader of the Colonial Assassins, Achilles strongly believed in the infallibility of the Assassin cause, refusing to heed Shay Cormac's warnings about the Precursor sites. Upon realizing that Shay had been right, he bitterly admitted that Shay had perhaps known more than him, and the sacrifices made by his followers had been in vain.<ref name="ACRG"/> It can be argued that his cynicism towards Connor was born partially because he recognized the same recklessness that he had once displayed.<ref name="AC3"/>

As a result of losing his family and for failing the Assassin Order under his leadership, Achilles lost his will to fight and became stoic and disillusioned in the Assassins' cause. When first meeting and training Ratonhnhaké:ton, Achilles was a strict, insensitive, and somewhat short-tempered man. He was quick to reprimand, discourage, and correct his naïve and brash apprentice.<ref name="AC3"/>

Connor possessed a highly romanticized and idealized view of the Assassins and his mission, believing that destroying the Templars would grant freedom to all of mankind. This was a strong contrast to Achilles' cynical but rational view of the world. As a result, Achilles often lectured Connor to warn him that his views and actions, while noble, were misguided and potentially dangerous. Connor would argue in disagreement and the two criticized each other on occasions.<ref name="AC3"/>

Despite this, Achilles was not without heart, as he genuinely cared for Connor and took pride in his accomplishments; so much so that Achilles became an important father figure and mentor. Over the years, Achilles watched as the Homestead flourished into a thriving and loving community, giving Achilles a sense of hope for America's future.<ref name="AC3"/>

==Equipment and skills==
Having been trained by Ah Tabai, Achilles was a skilled Assassin, adept in stealth and combat. His intelligence and organizational skills helped in the establishment of the Colonial Brotherhood, eventually rising to the rank of Mentor.<ref name="ACRG"/> He was a capable leader and oversaw the Order's activities and operations throughout the colonies. however his skill level was outmatched by Haytham Kenway.

However Achilles did also made use of his skills while training the young Connor and often did correct him.

==Trivia==
*A deleted dialogue has Achilles telling Connor about his family and their deaths, and how he contemplated suicide after losing them.<ref>[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T21DpeiU6uo YouTube: Achilles Davenport Family Story (deleted scene) - ''Assassin's Creed 3'']</ref>
*At the Davenport manor, Connor could play games of Fanorona with Achilles. After his death, Father [[Timothy]] replaced Achilles as Connor's opponent.
*Achilles' nickname, "the Old Man on the Hill," is reminiscent of the moniker given to another Mentor in the Order, [[Rashid ad-Din Sinan]]: "the Old Man of the Mountain."
*Coincidentally, both Achilles and [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]] died similar deaths, in that both passed away peacefully in their base of operations, while sitting in a chair and holding a message for another Assassin.
*In ''[[The Tyranny of King Washington: The Betrayal]]'', the effects of a man fitting Achilles' description are being searched through by two guards as Ratonhnhaké:ton escapes prison. *In ''[[Assassin's Creed III: Liberation]]'', the men of [[John Murray|Lord Dunmore]]'s Ethiopian Regiment wear the same clothes as Achilles does.
*Achilles shares the surname with [[Matthew Davenport]] and [[Jonathan Davenport]], though no link has been established between them.
'''John de la Tour''' (unknown – 11 May 1745) was a member of the [[Assassins|Assassin Order]], and the first Assassin to arrive in the [[United States|American]] colonies.<ref name="AC3">''[[Assassin's Creed III]]''</ref>

==Biography==
John de la Tour resided in {{Wiki|Acadia}}, a member of a wealthy family, and operated under direct order of the [[France|French]] [[Assassin Council]]. In 1740, he became acquainted with [[Achilles Davenport]], who had been sent to the Colonies by the [[Mentor]] of the [[Caribbean Assassins|Caribbean branch]] of the Order, [[Ah Tabai]], in order to establish a new Brotherhood. Upon first meeting de la Tour, Achilles learned that he had attempted to build a network for gathering information, with the intention of easily identifying any potential threats aimed towards the colonies, and personally theorized that the New World contained several [[First Civilization]] [[Temples|sites]] and [[Pieces of Eden|artifacts]]. Achilles did not hold de la Tour in high regard, referring to him as an arrogant bastard.<ref name="ACRG">''[[Assassin's Creed: Rogue]]''</ref>

In 1744, John accompanied Achilles to [[Quebec]] in order to locate [[Mathieu Léveillé]], a [[Slavery|slave]] from [[Martinique]] who had been believed to possess certain knowledge regarding the First Civilization. However, due to the weather conditions, the two were delayed on their journey, and by the time of their arrival Mathieu had passed away from an unknown illness in September 1743.<ref name="ACRG"/>

Fortunately for the Assassins, they discovered that the government had arranged a marriage between Léveillé and [[Abigail Davenport|Angélique-Denise]]. However, the ceremony never took place, and the woman was put up for sale at a slave auction. Acting on impulse, de la Tour bought her, but not before Mathieu was able to share his secrets with her. Witnessing this act changed Achilles' view of John, whom the former came to respect.<ref name="ACRG"/>

In 1745, John journeyed to [[Louisbourg]] with Achilles and Angélique posing as his slaves, in search of a safe house owned by [[Nicolas Court]], a [[Hermeticists|Hermeticist]] who studied the mythology of the [[Iroquois|indigenous]] people of the New World. De la Tour believed that Nicolas held valuable information that would lead them to finding First Civilization Temples. With the pair posing as slaves allowing them the benefit of drawing less suspicion and moving easily through the city, Achilles was nevertheless irritated by the charade, contrary to John.<ref name="ACRG"/>

However, as the conflicts between [[Europe]]an powers had reached America, [[British Army|British]] [[Guards|troops]] appeared in the city. John and Achilles attempted to enlist the aid of the French government, but were turned away as the French decided to reclaim their lost territory through treaties and negotiations, a tactic which the Assassins were skeptical about. De la Tour and Achilles helped prepare the Louisbourg fortress for the impending British attack, while Angélique searched the city for the safe house.<ref name="ACRG"/>

When the conflict between the French and the British finally erupted in the colonies, de la Tour realized the [[Templars]] would attempt to take advantage of it for their own purposes. John presented Achilles with his Assassin robes and named him as Mentor of the [[Colonial Assassins|Colonial Brotherhood]], before leaving to fight against the invading British forces, in order to buy Achilles and Angélique time to complete their mission.<ref name="ACRG"/>
However, openly attacking him would prompt the other Assassins to attack [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]].

Jamal was the traitor inside the Order that, along with [[Masun]], opened the gates for the [[Templars|Templar]] [[Defense of Masyaf|siege of Masyaf]]. He was originally featured as a mission target to be assassinated, but the mission was cut and he remained as a minor Easter egg.
Ezio was briefly able to see a vision of his entire family. After meeting up with [[Niccolò Machiavelli]], Ezio could return to the [[Palazzo Auditore]] and step into the center of the courtyard, where he would enter into a state similar to his [[Eagle Vision]] and be able to see the figures of his parents and all of his siblings around the palazzo. However, the vision would disappear and could not be seen again if Ezio left.
A giant squid could be found within the [[Assassin Tombs|Assassin Tomb]] beneath [[Santa Maria della Visitazione]]. To find the giant squid, Ezio must pull the lever that activated the swinging poles for progressing further into the tomb, but look down into the water near to the lever for one minute instead.

Once a minute or so had passed, a cutscene played, which showed a large squid swimming by. A second cutscene could then be activated if the lever was pulled once more and Ezio looked down again. Following this, the cutscene showed Ezio narrowly dodging one of the squid's tentacles before it swam away.
===Palazzo Ducale===
[[Video:--Assassin's Creed 2-- Palazzo Ducale Easter Egg|thumb|200px|Palazzo Ducale easter egg]]
After using the "Super jump" or "Fence glitch" to get into the [[Palazzo Ducale di Venezia]], Ezio could access the Doge's quarters where Carlo Grimaldi assassinated the Doge. The candle that [[Carlo Grimaldi]] and Doge Mocenigo were playing under was unlit, but the chess pieces were in exactly the same position, though Ezio assassinated Grimaldi years ago.

After going into these quarters, the sky and the building turned a blood red. However, this might not have been intentional, but accidental, as scenery lightened or darkened when entering other buildings such as the Villa Auditore, to match the interior of that building. In this case, the tone was changed to orange or red to match the interior of the specific room, and so the outside scenery and sky changed to orange and red respectively.
The [[assassin's Creed: Brotherhood achievements|achievement]] '''Grand Theft Dressage''' was a clear reference to the Grand Theft Auto game series.
{{-}}
===Machiavelli's works===
Shortly after Ezio successfully enlisted the help of the three other faction guilds, Niccolò Machiavelli asked Ezio how he had managed it. Ezio simply answered that it was "{{Wiki|Virtù}}", a concept about the spirit of leadership that Machiavelli was later known to have theorized. Also, at the end of Sequence 7, Machiavelli stated "''I intend to write a book about you one day.''" to Ezio, who responded with "''If you do, make it short.''" This was clearly a reference to Machiavelli's famous (and brief) book, "{{Wiki|The Prince}}."

Finally, an achievement entitled '''Il Principe''' (which translated to "The Prince") could be unlocked by achieving 100% [[synchronization]] for all of the memories in ''Brotherhood'', including the ones included within [[The Da Vinci Disappearance]] [[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood downloadable content|downloadable content]].
{{-}}
===Mario references===
In the mission [[Femme Fatale]], after Ezio killed all of the guards and dragged [[Lucrezia Borgia]] towards [[Caterina Sforza]]'s cell, she commented "Rescuing princesses from castles now?" This was a reference to the ''Super Mario Bros.'' games, where main protagonist Mario rescued Princess Peach from antagonist Bowser's castle.

Accompanying this, one of the ''Brotherhood'' achievements was entitled '''Principessa in Another Castello'''. This translated to "Princess in another castle," which was told to Mario in the original Mario games whenever he defeated Bowser's minions in their castles.

Another Mario reference was the achievement '''Plumber''', which showed the picture of a Mario world Warp Pipe.
{{-}}
===Metal Gear Solid===
Just before reuniting with [[Leonardo da Vinci]], Ezio came across an {{Wiki|Anachronism|anachronistic}} factory-made cardboard box, though he looked away when Leonardo came around the corner. This was a reference to the ''[[w:c:metalgear:Metal Gear Solid|Metal Gear Solid]]'' series, as the signature stealth move of [[w:c:metalgear:Solid Snake|Solid Snake]] (the series' protagonist) was to hide in a box or crate.

A second tribute was the [[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood outfits#Raiden Skin|Raiden suit]], available to those who had completed every challenge in the [[Animus Virtual Training Program]] with at least a bronze medal, a reference to how the character Raiden was trained in only virtual simulations.
{{-}}
===Montreal===
During the memory "[[Trojan Horse]]," while escorting [[Bartolomeo d'Alviano]] and his [[mercenaries]] disguised as French soldiers, a French guard asked Ezio Auditore as to which region of [[France]] he hailed from, to which he replied "Montréal." This was likely a reference to the location of [[Ubisoft|Ubisoft Montreal]], the main developers of the ''Assassin's Creed'' series.

Montreal was also the largest city in the French-speaking province of Quebec in Canada. Alternatively, it could be a reference to the birthplace of [[Francisco Randez]] – the model after whom Desmond Miles was designed.
{{-}}
===Project Legacy===
On [[Lucy Stillman]]'s computer monitors in the [[Sanctuary]], the Memories menu of ''[[Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy]]'' was displayed, set to the [[Italian Wars: Chapter 3 - Mario Auditore|memories of Mario Auditore]].
{{-}}
===Red footprints===
If Desmond went out to the front of the Villa Auditore and used Eagle Vision, there were a number of red footprints that could be seen which led up to the Assassins' insignia.

Various developers have stated that this was to lead the audience to where they needed to go, as some players weren't sure on what to do towards the start of the game. However, as red was supposed to signify something undesirable in Eagle Vision, it led to some confusion on the subject. As such, the developers have stated that the color of the footprints was an oversight, resolving the issue.
{{-}}
==''Assassin's Creed: Revelations''==
===Hello World===
In the very first sequence, [[Clay Kaczmarek|Subject 16]] talked to [[Desmond Miles]] about the place in the Animus that he was currently in, [[Black Room|Animus Island]], stating that it was the test world first created by [[Rebecca Crane]] to gain a feeling for the confines of the machine.

Afterwards, he proclaimed "''Hello World!''", which was a reference to the common test program named a ''Hello World'' project. This project was often used to familiarize a programmer with the basics of a programming language.
{{-}}
===James Bond===
The second memory of Sequence 7 in ''Revelations'' is titled "The Spy Who Shunned Me." This is a reference to the James Bond film, "The Spy Who Loved Me."
{{-}}
===Lingering enemy===
In the first memory of Altaïr in ''[[Assassin's Creed: Revelations]]'', Jamal could be seen, again viewed in red when in Eagle Vision. This first occurred in the original game, ''Assassin's Creed''.
{{-}}
===Monty Python===
In the memory [[The Brawler]], after having been defeated three times in a row, the encountered citizen said "''Ah... we will call it a draw, alright?''" This was a reference to the movie ''{{Wiki|Monty Python And The Holy Grail}}'', in which the Black Knight challenged King Arthur to a sword fight. After both his arms and legs were cut off and still refusing to give up, the Black Knight said "''Alright. We'll call it a draw.''"
{{-}}
===Muhammad Ali===
Sometimes during fighting or after defeating guards, civilians yelled "''Floats like a butterfly, stings like a scorpion!''" This line also occurred when random civilians wanted to [[Fists|fistfight]] Ezio. As such, the line was a reference to the famous boxer, {{Wiki|Muhammad Ali}}, who described his fighting style as "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."
{{-}}
===Spider-Man===
There was an [[assassin's Creed: Revelations achievements|achievement]] entitled '''Spider Assassin''', in which Ezio had to climb the top of the [[Hagia Sophia]] in under 25 seconds. The title and achievement was a reference to the popular {{Wiki|Marvel Comics}}' superhero ''{{Wiki|Spider-Man}}'' and his ability to scale up and around buildings with incredible speed.
{{-}}
===Superman===
One title in the [[Assassin's Creed: Revelations|second stage]] of the [[Animi Training Program]] was "Man of Steel". This was an obvious reference to {{Wiki|DC Comics}}' hero, ''{{Wiki|Superman}}'', as his nickname was known as the Man of Steel.
{{-}}
==''Assassin's Creed III''==
===Alice in Wonderland===
As the [[Grand Temple]] opens, Shaun says "In another moment, down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again," which is a line from the chapter "Down the Rabbit Hole" from the book ''{{Wiki|Alice In Wonderland}}''.
{{-}}
===Animi Avatars===
In the virtual map of [[Northwest Passage]], there existed two hidden paintings of Animi Avatars from former games: the [[Nobleman (Animi Avatar)|Nobleman]] and the [[Vanguard]]. Both could be found inside of the map's biggest ship, with the first one hanging on a wall and the second one laying on the floor.
{{-}}
===Assassin Turkey===
[[File:AC3 Assassin Turkey.png|250px|thumb|Connor with the Assassin Turkey]]
Any time after Sequence 6, Connor could find a turkey in the [[Davenport Homestead]] if he took cover behind any corner and whistled. Following this, the turkey would appear behind Connor and follow him wherever possible. Upon the turkey's appearance, it was possible to unlock a secret through inputting the {{Wiki|Konami Code}}, with the directional prompts.

'''Xbox 360:''' Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A.<br />
'''PS3:''' Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, O, X.<br />
'''PC:''' 2, 2, 4, 4, 1, 3, 1, 3, E, Space.<br />

Inputting the code would cause Connor to feed the animal. As the turkey fed, a small Assassin hood would appear over its head.
{{-}}
===Broken Sword (game series)===
The "Broken Sword" Knife was a reference to the {{Wiki|Broken Sword|adventure series}}, which also dealt with a secret history involving Templars and the Hashashin.
{{-}}
===Cool Hand Luke===
Often, civilians would utter "What we have here is a failure to communicate", which is the famous line from the film ''{{Wiki|Cool Hand Luke}}''. This line was appropriate in that it correctly expressed the major problem between Continentals and British Regulars, being their inability to reason or offer quarter.
{{-}}
===Flying Machine===
After completing a series of Homestead missions and retrieving stolen blueprints for the woodworker [[Lance O'Donnell]], Connor would be given the opportunity to engage in an interactive conversation with him outside the Davenport Manor. Lance would then reveal that the blueprints contained, among other things, designs for a [[Flying Machine|flying machine]] invented by [[Leonardo da Vinci]] centuries before.

In a clear reference to ''[[Assassin's Creed II]]'', Connor would request to use it much as Ezio Auditore did, however, once Connor leapt off of the Homestead's cliff with the construct, he and the machine would crash into the water of the bay below. This was due to Lance and Connor not knowing how da Vinci managed to make the machine fly.
{{-}}
===French flag===
The hanging laundry in the game is arranged like the French flag.
{{-}}
===Spyro the Dragon===
When Desmond activated the mini-camera on his first mission, it made the same noise as [[w:c:spyro:Sparx the Dragonfly|Sparx the Dragonfly]] in the ''Spyro the Dragon'' series.
{{-}}
===The Dark Knight Rises===
When Connor encountered [[Charles Lee]] in the first memory of Sequence 12, Lee mentioned that he was going to burn down the [[Davenport Homestead]] and destroy Connor's village, and "When (Connor)'s seen all his life's work brought to ruin. Only then will I allow him to die."

This paralleled the lines spoken by Bane to Bruce Wayne in ''The Dark Knight Rises'', "And then, when it is done, and Gotham is ashes... then you have my permission to die." The circumstances were similar but due to the time between the movie and the release of ''Assassin's Creed III'', the lines were likely an unintentional allusion.
{{-}}
===The Last of the Mohicans===
The Gunstock Club was an exact replica of the club used by the character Chingachgook in the 1992 version of ''{{Wiki|The Last of the Mohicans (1992 film)|The Last of the Mohicans}}''.
{{-}}
==''Assassin's Creed III: Liberation''==
===Predator===
There was a trophy in ''[[Assassin's Creed III: Liberation]]'' named "'''Predator'''", which could be earned through killing an enemy from a tree with the [[blowpipe]], whilst using Eagle Vision.

This was a reference to the ''Predator'' movie franchise, where the Predator stalked its prey from tree branches with thermal imaging, and then killed them with a gun.

===Swamp Whale===
In both the original PlayStation Vita and HD editions of ''[[Assassin's Creed III: Liberation|Assassin's Creed: Liberation]]'', if [[Aveline de Grandpré]] climbs the lighthouse next to the Spanish fort in the [[Bayou]], and then climbs onto the beam jutting out on the side opposite the one that serves as a Viewpoint to be synchronized, the sound of whale song starts to be heard in the swamp. If Aveline continues to look out into the (inaccessible) water nearby, she can actually see a whale swimming around in the swamp water, occasionally surfacing to take a breath, sticking its tail up as it dives, or even breaching the surface and splashing down. In the PlayStation Vita edition, the whale is triggered as soon as Aveline climbs atop the railing, whereas in the HD edition, Aveline must position herself on the protruding wooden beam in order to trigger the whale.
===Death of a Salesman===
The achievement for completing memory sequence 5 is titled "Death Of A Salesman", a reference to the Arthur Miller play of the same name.

===Full Metal Jacket===
In "[[Trust Is Earned]]", [[John Cockram]] can be heard telling his soldiers "Pick up your socks and grab your cocks." This is a reference to the morning bootcamp scene in Full Metal Jacket.

===Giant Squid vs. White Whale===
At the ''Antocha'' ship wreck, if Edward looks out a window in one of the wrecks for a short while, a cinematic depicting a battle between a Giant Squid and a white whale will occur.

===Inglourious Basterds===
One of Edward Kenway's memories is named "[[Vainglorious Bastards]]", a reference to the movie ''{{Wiki|Inglourious Basterds}}''.

===Papers, Please===
One of the naval contracts Edward can undertake is named "[[Papers, Please]]", a reference to the indie game ''{{Wiki|Papers, Please}}''.

===Pirate ships===
There is a pirate hunter ship named ''Thriller Bark'', which may be a reference to a ship of the same name from the ''[[w:c:onepiece:One Piece (Anime)|One Piece]]'' anime.

Another pirate hunter ship is named ''Hornblower'', a possible reference to the {{Wiki|Horatio Hornblower}} series by C.S. Forester.

===Real-world media and weapons===
[[File:AC4 Weapons Easter Egg.png|thumb|250px|The silver Syrian Sabre]]
Throughout [[Abstergo Entertainment]]'s [[Montreal]] building, several real-world games, books and other ''Assassin's Creed'' media can be found.

Accompanying this, there was a glass case in [[Olivier Garneau]]'s office containing several weapons, including a silver handled Syrian Sabre, [[Maria's Dagger|Maria Auditore da Firenze's dagger]], and four replicas of the double-barreled shotgun from Red Steel 2, another [[Ubisoft]] title.

===Scarlet Needle===
In the multiplayer, the [[Duellist]] has a weapon called the Scarlet Needle, with the description "Choose your fate: Surrender, or Die". Both are references to a character in the ''Saint Seiya'' anime, ''Scorpio Milo'', one being his technique and the other his famous catchphrase.

===Second White Whale appearance===
At the [[Devil's Eye Caverns]] wreck, if Edward collects all the chests throughout the wreck and returns to the diving bell via the rapid current caverns, a white whale will appear in close proximity to the wreck, and pass by until it swims off into the distance.

===The Secret of Monkey Island===
In "[[The Pirate Captain]]" memory, Edward assassinates a pirate captain called Mancomb Seepgood, which references the video game ''{{Wiki|The Secret of Monkey Island}}'', as a pirate by the name of [[w:c:monkeyisland:Mancomb Seepgood|Mancomb Seepgood]] appears early in the story. However, judging by his claims that soon he will be the mightiest pirate in the Caribbean, it is likely he was also intended as a parody of the similarly-named, better-known protagonist of the ''Monkey Island'' franchise, [[w:c:monkeyisland:Guybrush Threepwood|Guybrush Threepwood]]. Additionally, during Sequence 10, [[Bartholomew Roberts]] remarks that "there's nothing like the hot winds of Hell blowing in your face," the same line uttered by the Ghost Pirate LeChuck in ''The Secret of Monkey Island''.

=== The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow ===
At Sleepy Hollow in the River Valley, the Headless Horseman of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow can attack the player. He can be found at the Old Dutch Church at night. He shares the same moveset as a brute soldier, as he wields a large axe and can throw grenades. He is invulnerable to most attacks and cannot be shot at by the pistol or air rifle. The only way to kill him is to shoot a pumpkin that is sitting atop a gravestone in the cemetery next to the church.

Another way to defeat him is to use the sleep grenade on him which will cause him to drop his axe. Pick up his axe and perform the special attack with the weapon once he awakens which will drive the axe through his nonexistent head. He will still be alive and aware of your presence, but will remain incapacitated for good.
===Far Cry 3===
In ''{{Wiki|Far Cry 3}}'', one of the collectible Letters of the Lost Lab mentioned "I question using these so-called scientists. They speak of [[Pieces of Eden]] and Edison's electrical experiments into [[genetic memory]]." It also mentioned the password "122112", a reference to the solar flare date in Desmond's storyline, and an [[Abstergo Industries]] logo could be found on several of the walls.

As well as this, earlier in the game, Jason mentions "leap of faith" before jumping into a pool of water, reminiscent of the [[Leap of Faith]] from the Assassin's Creed games. Also, at the beginning of the game, they quote "In another moment, down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again" from ''Alice in Wonderland'', very similar to how Shaun Hastings quoted the phrase in ''Assassin's Creed III.'' However, they continue quoting dialogues from the book throughout the game.
===Grand Theft Auto IV===
In ''{{Wiki|Grand Theft Auto IV}}'', after completing a set of assassination missions for a mysterious figure named the Fixer, the player received an achievement called '''Assassin's Greed''', which was a direct play on the ''Assassin's Creed'' name. Moreover, the requirement for the achievement was the completion of nine assassination missions, which paralleled the first ''Assassin's Creed'' game, in which [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]] was tasked by [[Rashid ad-Din Sinan|Al Mualim]] to [[Hunt for the Nine|kill nine Templars]] in exchange for his reinstatement as a Master Assassin.
===inFamous 2===
[[File:Croppedagain.png|thumb|200px|The theater, depicting the parody title]]
Located in the fictional city of New Marais, several cinemas and theaters in ''[[w:c:infamous:inFamous 2|inFamous 2]]'' featured movie titles that were direct puns to popular video game names. Among the movie titles was "''Assassin's Need (Love Too)''", a parody on ''Assassin's Creed''. These cinemas were located in the very first district of the city. Also, one of the negative karmic missions available in the game was named "''Assassin's Greed''", another play on the ''Assassin's Creed'' name.

Another Easter egg found in the game's downloadable content, ''[[w:c:infamous:inFamous: Festival of Blood|inFamous: Festival of Blood]]'', could be seen again on the cinemas' featured movie titles. The new parody title was "''Assassin's Bleed''", which was also a reference to the download content's central theme of vampires.
===Invictus games===
In the iPhone games ''{{Wiki|Froggy Jump}}'' and ''{{Wiki|Froggy Launcher}}'', a torso item called "Assassin armor" appeared identical to Ezio's armor in ''Assassin's Creed II'', and could be bought for 2 Diamonds.
{{-}}
===Kingdom Rush: Frontiers===
In the Ironhide Studios game, the two top level "Militia" towers are the Assassins and the Templars, a direct play on the rivalry between the Assassins and the Templars in the Assassin's Creed series.
{{-}}
===LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game===
In ''LEGO The Lord of the Rings'', a Leap of Faith could be performed from a wooden board that resembled a View Point at the highest point in Weathertop. On performing it, the character would land into a small pond, complete with an eagle-like sound as the Leap was done.
{{-}}
===LittleBigPlanet series===
As a part of their promotion for ''Assassin's Creed II'', Ubisoft released Ezio's Assassin costume as a downloadable outfit for the PlayStation 3 exclusive ''{{Wiki|LittleBigPlanet}}'' on 8 December 2009.

On the day that ''Revelations'' was released, ''LittleBigPlanet'' released a new costume of Ezio, featuring Sackboy in the robes that Ezio started out with in the game, as well as his beard. These outfits are also available in ''LittleBigPlanet 2''.
===Metal Gear Solid series===
[[File:AltairSnake.png|160px|thumb|The Altaïr costume in Metal Gear Solid 4]]
On April Fools' Day 2008, it was revealed that an Altaïr costume for Old Snake could be unlocked in the game ''[[w:c:metalgear:Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots|Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots]]''. [[w:c:metalgear:Hideo Kojima|Hideo Kojima]], one of the game's creators, later announced that it was not a joke, and that the costume could really be unlocked if the player did "something special." In order to unlock the costume, the player must have either acquired the "Assassin Emblem" (a nod to the games' emblem) or input a password in the "Extras" section. Specifically, the password was revealed to be ''aottrykmyn''.

The costume could be used as an alternative disguise early in-game and worked exactly like the Middle East Militia costume. Unlike Altaïr's robes, the Militia costume was lost early in-game, prompting the player to find another set of the disguise, and could cause the Middle Eastern faction to be friendly to the player as opposed to having to work to gain their trust. When the costume was worn, Old Snake's idle stance, without any weapons equipped, is exactly like Altaïr's stance in ''Assassin's Creed'', complete with his ring finger bent back to his palm, a reference to Altaïr's missing finger.

{{Quote|Back in the time of the Crusades, members of the order of Assassins used what is called the Assassin's Straw Box to hide and get close to their enemies.|Kazuhira Miller, commenting on the newly procured item.|w:c:metalgear:Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker}}

In ''Main Ops 16'', one of the missions in ''[[w:c:metalgear:Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker|Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker]]'', a unique box made of straw dubbed the ''Assassin's Straw Box'' could be obtained. To do so, the player must ensure that there was a vacant slot in the equipment section. They then must climb onto the roof of the shack above where the straw box was, and then perform a [[Leap of Faith]] into it. The Leap was accompanied by an eagle's screech, similar to its mechanism in the ''Assassin's Creed'' series.
[[File:LeapOfFaithMGS.jpg|thumb|250px|Big Boss performing a Leap of Faith into the straw box]]
Right after obtaining the straw box, one of the game's main supporting characters, Kazuhira Miller, mentions its use during the [[Third Crusade]] (the time period of ''Assassin's Creed''), and how it was used by the Assassin order. After the aforementioned mission was completed, the Assassin's Straw Box was made available in the inventory.

The box could hold two people simultaneously and included a special function not found in other box items: players were able to knock out soldiers while hiding in the box and if another player was present, the unconscious soldier can be recruited via Fulton Recovery. Continued use of the box damages the item, and can be destroyed completely for the rest of the mission if overused.

The '''Villa Auditore''' was a familial home and stronghold of the [[House of Auditore|Auditore family]], located within the city of [[Monteriggioni]].</p>

<p abp="495">Purchased by the family sometime after 1321, it remained the home to the Auditore up until the turn of the 16th century, when it was heavily damaged during the [[siege of Monteriggioni]].</p>

==History==
===Domenico Auditore===
<p abp="500">The villa was constructed in 1290. Thirty years later, in 1320, a [[Florence|Florentine]] attack left the facade damaged, and in need of reconstruction.<ref name="AC2">''[[Assassin's Creed II]]''</ref></p>

<p abp="503">After the death of [[Dante Alighieri]] in 1321, [[Domenico Auditore]] purchased the Villa, and subsequently erected a new facade, as well as a painting gallery within the building. He redesigned the Villa as both a home, fortress and a training ground for the town.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="507">The building itself was filled with several hidden compartments and rooms, whilst the grounds catered to a number of different uses. Following this, Domenico constructed a [[Auditore Family Crypt|family crypt]], which would later be connected to an escape route within the Villa that led out to the north of Monteriggioni.<ref name="AC2"/></p>
Following the death of their [[Renato Auditore|father]] and Giovanni's departure for Florence, Mario became the sole ruler of Monteriggioni, and main resident of the Villa in 1454.<ref name="AC2"/><ref name="Project Legacy">''[[Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy]]''</ref></p>

<p abp="519">Despite Mario's love for the building, both Monteriggioni and the Villa receded into disrepair due to him focusing his spending on warfare and [[mercenaries]], rather than its upkeep. Instead, the Villa was mostly used for the storage of weapons and war equipment, and at one point, even a [[Shroud of Eden|mysterious artifact]] that Mario had discovered hidden under Monteriggioni.<ref name="Project Legacy"/></p>

<p abp="523">During the [[Defense of Monteriggioni|city's defense]] in 1454, the Villa was also where Mario and his mercenaries interrogated [[Luciano Pezzati]], a spy for the invading Florentine army.<ref name="Project Legacy"/></p>

===Ezio Auditore===
<p abp="528">In 1476, Mario's nephew, [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze|Ezio Auditore]], as well as [[Maria Auditore da Firenze|his mother]] and [[Claudia Auditore da Firenze|sister]], came seeking refuge in Monteriggioni after the execution of his father Giovanni and brothers, [[Federico Auditore da Firenze|Federico]] and [[Petruccio Auditore da Firenze|Petruccio]]. After resting in the Villa, Ezio intended to take his mother and sister to [[Spain]], much to Mario's protests.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="536">Eventually, Ezio decided to remain in Monteriggioni and seek revenge on those responsible for the execution of his male kin. He became, in effect, co-ruler of Monteriggioni with Mario, and the renovations he funded and oversaw proved to herald a rebirth for the Villa and the city's overall state.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="538">Although the exact length of time it took for the Villa to be rebuilt is unknown, the Villa once again became an opulent structure and headquarters for the [[Italian Assassins|Italian Assassin Brotherhood]] by late December 1499.<ref name="ACB">''[[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood]]''</ref></p>

<p abp="541">[[File:Villaburn.PNG|thumb|left|250px|The Villa Auditore burning during the siege of Monteriggioni]]
However, on 2 January, 1500, the [[Papacy|Papal forces]] led by [[Cesare Borgia]] besieged Monteriggioni, devastating the town and its Villa, while also killing Mario in the process. After this, the Villa was abandoned, as Ezio left the ruins of Monteriggioni to [[Liberation of Rome|wage war]] against the [[House of Borgia|Borgia family]] in [[Rome]].<ref name="ACB"/></p>

<p abp="549">Sometime before 1554, the Auditore resumed control over Monteriggioni, though the Villa was not rebuilt. In 1554, the Auditore were betrayed by Giovannino Zeti, keeper of the garrison and a Florentine exile, who gave the keys of the city to the [[House of Medici|Medici family]].<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="552">The Medici conquered Monteriggioni, though they allowed the Auditore to continue ruling the city due to their families' good relationship.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

[[File:ACB Modern Villa.png|thumb|250px|The modern Villa Auditore]]
By 2012, the Villa had become a World Preservation Site, and was heralded as "''one of the [[Tuscany|Tuscan]] countryside's most beloved landmarks.''" A plaque displayed before the Villa contained details of its construction, as well as how it had been destroyed in [[Rodrigo Borgia|Pope Alexander VI]]'s military campaign in 1500.<ref name="ACB"/></p>

<p abp="562">On 9 September, 2012, [[Desmond Miles]], [[Lucy Stillman]], [[Rebecca Crane]], and [[Shaun Hastings]] set up a temporary base of operations within the [[Sanctuary]] beneath the Villa to escape the [[Templars]] searching for them. Throughout their stay, which lasted until October 10, the Assassins lived within the Villa, and came out only to collect provisions.<ref name="ACB"/></p>

==Rooms==
<p abp="571">The Villa Auditore had several rooms, some of which were hidden.</p>

===Main hall===
<p abp="573">[[File:Zw-mainhall.png|thumb|left|250px|The main hall]]
The main hall of the villa served as the entrance, and led to several other rooms, as well as the courtyard which contained the [[monteriggioni statuettes|statuettes]] Ezio recovered from the city.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="577">It was well-furnished, even in its state of disrepair, and was spacious and featured an elegant design. A large marble staircase occupied the center, leading to the second floor, while a chandelier hung from above. Several paintings purchased by Ezio decorated the walls of the main hall.<ref name="AC2"/>
{{-}}</p>
===Armory===
<p abp="581">{{Main|Armory}}
[[File:ACII-Armory 1.png|thumb|250px|The armor room]]
In the armory, Ezio was able to change his equipped weapons or armor within two separate rooms. The armor room contained the five sets of armor available to Ezio. The [[Armor of Altaïr]], once unlocked from the Sanctuary, was situated at the back of the armory.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="586">The center of the armory contained a model of the [[Flying Machine]] used during the assassination of [[Carlo Grimaldi]] in [[Venice]], along with a model of the carriage Ezio drove in the [[Apennine Mountains|Appennine Mountains]] with [[Leonardo da Vinci]].<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="593">[[File:ACII-Armory 2.png|thumb|250px|left|The weapons room]]
The weapons room contained Ezio's weapons, spread throughout several weapons racks. The left rack held the [[Schiavona]], the [[Common Sword|common]], the [[Captain's Sword|Captain's]], and the [[Milanese Sword|Milanese]] [[Swords and maces|swords]]. Meanwhile, the right rack possessed the [[Sword of Altaïr]], the [[Syrian Sabre|Old Syrian sword]], the [[Scimitar]], and the [[Venetian Falchion|Venetian]] and [[Florentine Falchion|Florentine falchions]].<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="606">The other side had a rack which contained the Mercenario and the [[Condottiero War Hammer|Condottiero]] [[warhammer]]s, the Maul, and the Flanged and Cavalieri maces. The center of the room had a double sided rack that contained the [[short blades|small weapons]], comprised of the [[Dagger]], [[Knife]], [[Stiletto]], [[Channeled Cinquedea|Channeled]] and [[Notched Cinquedea|Notched cinquedeas]], and the [[Sultan's Knife|Sultan's]] and [[Butcher Knife|Butcher's knives]].<ref name="AC2"/></p>

===Workshop===
<p abp="619">[[File:AC2_Monteriggioni_Workshop.png|thumb|250px|The architect and Claudia in the workshop]]
The workshop was a room which contained several shelves lined with books, and a scale replica of Monteriggioni. Claudia Auditore occupied this room during Ezio's hunt for Rodrigo Borgia, keeping track of the city's finances and maintaining records of the Villa's refurbishment.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="622">Monteriggioni's resident [[Architects|architect]] was also present here, through whom Ezio made decisions regarding upgrades to the villa. This was also the place where Leonardo da Vinci set up his workshop after being invited to stay at the Villa by Mario Auditore.<ref name="AC2"/>
{{-}}</p>

===Mario's study===
<p abp="627">[[File:AC2_Mario's_Study.png|thumb|left|250px|Mario's study]]
Mario Auditore's study was a room where Mario and Ezio would discuss the operations of the Assassin Order, including details of various missions Ezio would undertake.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="630">Before Ezio joined in the efforts of the Assassins though, the study had been the room in which his father, Giovanni, and Mario discussed plans for the order and missions.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="632">The [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's Codex|Codex]] Wall was located in the study, and the pages kept within it were added by Ezio once they were found throughout his journeys across Italy, after they had been decoded by Leonardo da Vinci.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="635">A few of the pages that had been on the wall were ones decoded by Giovanni. Standing before the Codex Wall was a pedestal meant for holding the [[Ezio's Apple of Eden|Apple of Eden]]. The pedestal was placed in a way so that the light emitted from the artifact would mark locations on the map beneath the pages.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="638">By 1499, Ezio had collected all of the Codex pages. From there, he used his [[Eagle Vision]] to orient the pieces into their proper positions. When the puzzle was solved, the wall revealed a complete map of the world marked with the locations of the [[Pieces of Eden]] and the different Vaults and [[Temples]].<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="643">Beyond the Codex Wall was Mario's desk, where he did writing work and presumably kept track of the Brotherhood. As well as this, there was a large bookcase in the room, which concealed a mechanism that hid the stairs to a place known as the Sanctuary. Finally, above the study was a balcony, which would connect to a corridor that led to the entrances of the workshop, and Maria and Ezio's rooms.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="645">Following the attack by Cesare Borgia, the room had been destroyed in part, but still held Claudia's record book, which was found centuries later by [[Desmond Miles]].<ref name="ACB"/></p>

===Maria's room===
<p abp="649">[[File:AC2 Maria Auditore's Room.png|thumb|250px|Maria's room]]
Maria Auditore's room was the bedroom of Maria Auditore, located on the second floor of the villa. Like the rest of the villa, it was well furnished, and included a box for [[feathers]] that Ezio collected for her in memory of her youngest son and his brother, Petruccio.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="653">Maria spent around 20 years praying in this room, constantly in mourning for the loss of Petruccio. However, when Ezio had finally collected one hundred feathers, persisting even after his uncle Mario had written off Maria's grief as a hopeless cause, she finally spoke, thanking her son for not giving up on her.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

===Ezio's room===
<p abp="656">[[File:AC2_Ezio's_Room_Right.png|thumb|left|250px|Ezio's room]]
Ezio Auditore's room was located at the top floor of the Villa Auditore. It served as a bedroom, study, and base of operations during his twenty-three year crusade to avenge his fallen father and two brothers, who were executed by members of the Templar Order.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="659">Paintings of Ezio's [[assassination targets]] would be hung in his room after he had killed them, with the exception of [[Dante Moro]] and Rodrigo Borgia, which appeared even though Ezio spared their lives.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="663">The room was supported by a wooden beam running up from the middle of the floor to the ceiling, and was taken up mostly by a desk littered with letters and documents. Ezio's room was slightly altered just before the siege of Monteriggioni, with the addition of a large bed and a bath tub, with a set of stairs leading up to it instead of a ladder. These were possibly added after Ezio had upgraded the Villa.<ref name="ACB"/></p>

<p abp="665">[[File:Reunion 1.png|thumb|250px|Ezio with Caterina in his room]]
In 1500, Ezio spent the night with [[Caterina Sforza]] when the city was attacked in the siege. A cannonball crashed through the wall of his room and damaged the wooden support beam in the center of the structure, causing the ceiling to collapse and cave in over half of the room.</p>

<p abp="668">As a result, debris from the ceiling fell onto the Armor of Altaïr, prompting Ezio to leave it behind to engage in defending the Villa.<ref name="ACB"/>
{{-}}</p>
===Painting gallery===
<p abp="672">{{Main|Painting gallery}}
[[File:Zw-gallery.png|thumb|left|250px|The painting gallery in the Villa Auditore]]
At some point during 1454, Mario utilized the painting gallery in the Villa, taking advantage of his brother's connections in Florence to import fine art.<ref name="Project Legacy" /></p>

<p abp="676">From 1476 to 1499, Ezio gathered pieces of [[Renaissance]] artwork from [[art merchants]] in several different cities during his travels, which were displayed in the villa's painting gallery. However, the paintings were either destroyed or stolen by the Borgia following the siege of Monteriggioni in 1500.<ref name="AC2"/><ref name="ACB"/></p>

===Sanctuary===
<p abp="682">{{Main|Sanctuary}}
[[File:Sanctuary v.png|thumb|250px|The Sanctuary]]
The Sanctuary was a stone chamber located in Monteriggioni, and was used by Assassins in both the Renaissance and [[modern times]]. It was a well-built chamber found underneath the Villa Auditore, and could be accessed primarily through an entrance hidden behind a bookshelf in the Villa study.<ref name="AC2"/></p>

<p abp="687">Statues of seven legendary Assassins lined the walls. Six of these statues had corresponding [[assassin Seals|seals]] at their base, which had to be collected and returned, in order to unlock the gate in front of the seventh statue of [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]]. This seventh statue also held the Armor of Altaïr until it was recovered by Ezio Auditore.<ref name="AC2"/>
{{-}}</p>
==Trivia==
*The Villa Auditore bears a passing resemblance to the Villa di Maiano in its overall form, central portico, number of floors and tower. The Villa di Maiano is located just outside Florence.
*The Villa was featured on the banner of Shaun Hastings' coffee stand, during the infiltration of the [[Abstergo Entertainment]] offices in [[Montreal]].
*There is a barcode on the house which says "12212012" which is also the date the world would have been destroyed by a solar flare.
