}}

Rebecca Crane is one of the modern day Assassins introduced in Assassin's Creed II. She is the creator of the Animus 2.0 - which she affectionately refers to as "Baby" - and provides technical support for the Assassins alongside her partner, Shaun Hastings. She appears to be an old friend of Lucy Stillman, although, prior to the game, the two purportedly did not see one another for seven years, implied to be because of Lucy's internment at Abstergo.

In Assassin's Creed II, Rebecca serves as tech support for the Animus 2.0. She often leaves notes within the database entries that Shaun makes available for Desmond Miles while he is in the Animus, especially if the entries (i.e. about a particular structure) indicate the presence of a Glyph or Assassin's Tomb therein. The data module that Rebecca receives from Lucy with the records of the Abstergo version of the Animus allow Desmond to interact with the encrypted files Subject 16 left behind in Ezio Auditore da Firenze's memories.

Biography
Although little information has been given about Rebecca's past, there are some references made throughout the games. It appears that she was not born into the Brotherhood like Desmond, as she comments that the Assassins contacted her when she was older. Prior to being an Assassin, Rebecca was into sports- including extreme snowboarding. However, she broke her leg and began pursuing an interest in computers and coding. Rebecca was dating an electronics expert when the Assassins first contacted her. When Desmond asked her further about it, she commented that she was now single. Desmond, shocked, asked her if she was kidding, which she says she was. Rebecca then said that death is only funny when it's not happening in front of you, that "(she) should know" and she refused to say more about it. Later Desmond asked her if she ever used the Animus to learn about her ancestors, she commented that it was pretty boring compared to his ancestors. One of her ancestors was a Prussian mercenary, and she did not comment on having an Assassin ancestor.

Assassin's Creed II
In Assassin's Creed II, Rebecca monitors the Animus to make sure nothing goes wrong (such as what happened at the start of the first Assassin's Creed ). She will often provide a comment relating to being at the top of most rather tall buildings, such as remarking that "the view must be great" from the top of a church, or that she thinks Desmond is itching to get to the top of a bell tower.

While Desmond is outside the Animus, he, Shaun, and Rebecca discuss the Assassin order. According to Shaun, he began spreading the word about Abstergo and the Templars, provoking unwanted attention by the latter. Rebecca "saved" Shaun and recruited him into the Assassin order. When Shaun commented that the Assassins were killers and not necessarily the "good guys" Rebecca commented and assured Desmond that taking a life was never easy, but that sometimes people needed to die for things to change. When the hideout is attacked, she helps Shaun pack up the Animus gear while Desmond and Lucy defend their location from Abstergo. As they escape into a truck, she is able to get the Animus working inside it, which allows Desmond to re-enter the Renaissance and finish any remaining memories while on the way to their second base up North. This consequently allows the player to finish up any Side Missions and plot elements they may have missed, such as Races and Feather collecting, to name a few.

Brotherhood
Once again Rebecca takes the role of monitoring the Animus in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. After the modern day assassins are forced to leave their hideout they flee to Monteriggioni where Rebecca sets up the Animus 2.0 under the Villa Auditore inside it's secret vault.

When Desmond leaves the Animus, he talks to Rebecca about the Animus, her past, and other topics. He also learns through her e-mails that she misses her family and dog. It's also implied that Shaun and Rebecca have a budding relationship, but it's only suggested. When Desmond finds out that the Apple of Eden is located at the Colosseum she joins the other Assassins. Lucy takes Rebecca and Shaun on an alternative route through Capitaline Hill at Shaun's suggestion (since he cannot free-run, but it is unclear if Rebecca can because of her leg or not). When Juno speaks to Desmond, she cannot hear or see her. Desmond is then taken over by the goddess Juno and forced to stab Lucy. When Juno relinquishes her control over Desmond, Rebecca and Shaun appear physically unharmed.

Characteristics and personality
Rebecca is an energetic, somewhat immature young woman - despite the fact that she saved his life, Shaun Hastings is quick to belittle and gibe at her. She is tolerant and optimistic, representing Shaun's foil - she is the polar opposite of her colleague, friendly and talkative. She shows great pride in her work, praising her redesign of the Animus as having a far more enlightened and creative construct; a "competitive edge" as she calls it. She also remains convinced that, despite Shaun's dubiousness of their means, the Assassins are, as Desmond puts it, "the good guys."

Trivia
*When in the Animus 2.0, Rebecca adds information to the database using the name REBECCAC84. This username holds her first name, the initial of her last name, and implies her birth year. This may mean that she is 28 as of 2012.
*When Lucy Stillman and Desmond Miles first enter the hideout, Rebecca greets Lucy happily and exclaims: "It's been so long... Seven years!" This means that the last time the two friends saw each other was in 2005.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, she appears to have put on make-up, unlike in Assassin's Creed II.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood she reveals that, before working for the Assassins, she loved playing sports and was once a snowboarder. However, after breaking her leg, she quit and discovered that she found technology more interesting.
*Her e-mail password is Snowmass84, likely to reflect her previous hobby, and also implies her birth year.
*After losing her MP3 player, Rebecca sends an e-mail to her teammates about it, claiming that she "can't sleep without it."
**Shaun later e-mails her that he found it on his bedside table. Though uncertain, this could be a hint to a romance between the two. Other e-mails between Shaun and Rebecca suggest similar, in one instance Shaun invites Rebecca to listen to some "beats" (music) to which she replies with just a smiley emoticon. Another instance that this romance is suggested is when Shaun e-mails his coleagues and asks them if they would like to go out for drinks, when Lucy says she must stay with Desmond (who can't go outside) Rebecca and Shaun are forced to go alone. Rebecca replies to this situation with "A date with Shaun! WOOT!" though this is perhaps sarcastic. Some conversations between Rebecca and Shaun also hint at a romance, in one instance a conversation ends in Shaun saying "There are some things even a computer can't do... like love Rebecca, like love..." He then looks down while Rebecca leans back with her hands behind her head.
*Rebecca never removes her headphones, also suggesting that she is obsessed with her MP3 player.
*Rebecca mentions to Desmond that she once went into the Animus, but comments that her ancestor's life as a Prussian mercenary was boring, due to spending several hours constantly shooting.
**Hearing this, Shaun agreed and remarked that "guns are for sissies".
*She is shown to be a vegetarian in Brotherhood, as she shows disgust when Desmond takes a bite of a hamburger, calling him a "carnivore." She then goes on to defend herself from Shaun, who attempts to explain how eating vegetables is not much different from eating animals.
*In Brotherhood Desmond questions Rebecca whether she has killed before. She replies by saying that before she joined the Assassins, she had a boyfriend, then after joining she did not. When Desmond replies with "Are you kidding!?", she reveals that she was indeed kidding.
*In one of her e-mails, Rebecca talks about sometimes missing her family, and her dog.
*Rebecca was originally going to have shorter hair in Brotherhood, but was scrapped and replaced her usual clothing with a jumpsuit.
*Though most likely born an Assassin Rebecca shows little ability in terms of free-running and combat, both her and Shaun comment on how they can't follow Desmond when he shows signs of acrobatic prowess, first at Monteriggioni and then at the Colosseum.
What am I – who are you, my mum?

Shaun Hastings is a supporting character in Assassin's Creed II. He is voiced by and modeled after British author and comedian Danny Wallace. He assists Desmond by creating database entries on various people, places and buildings he will encounter while in the Animus 2.0.

Biography
Early life
Shaun was interested in conspiracies and the unknown from an early age. Though he was initially unaware of the existence of modern-day Templars and Assassins, he did realize that there was some power-struggle going on. Shaun tried to dig up information on Abstergo's activities and then attempted to tell others about his findings, not realizing that the Templars would try to silence him. Fortunately, Rebecca Crane "rescued" Shaun and recruited him into the Assassin Order. This was somewhat unconventional, as Assassins are usually born into the order.

Assassin's Base
Shaun's role in the order is to provide tactical support to the other Assassins. After Lucy Stillman and Desmond Miles escaped to the hideout, Desmond entered the Animus to relive his ancestor Ezio Auditore's memories. Shaun supplied Desmond with interesting database entries and the occasional piece of advice on glyph puzzles. However, as the de facto historian of the Assassins, Shaun was always busy working on his computer and rarely had any opportunities to speak with Desmond – telling him to "go away."
Assassin's Sanctuary
After entering the sanctuary, Shaun continues on doing his research just like before. He seems to be much nicer to Desmond now (probably since they only talk about history). Though he is still just as rude as ever toward Rebecca which causes Lucy to make him work more shifts. After Desmond completed the 9th sequence of Ezio's memories, they are still left with the mystery of where the Apple is. Desmond points out to the numbers on the wall as well as the triple triad symbol meaning something, upon which Shaun correctly deduces that they are relevant to God and God's number 72, which he also states is the same year that Rome's Colosseum was built. They all decided that's where the Apple of Eden would be, and take a long road trip there. When they find the Apple, they get Desmond to use it to ask where all the temples are. Shaun, upon seeing and identifying the Phrygian Cap, which stands for freedom, and the Masonic eye, which he said both come together in only one place. However, before he could say what place it was, Juno possessed Desmond through the Apple, causing a temporal freeze to those around him along with Shaun, and stabbing Lucy in the abdomen, however Shaun's fate, along with Rebecca's remains unclear. At the point where Lucy and Desmond collapse, and the scene is revisited after the credits, he and Rebecca are still visibly conscious and apparently unaffected by the Apple's power.

Characteristics and personality
"No, England is not part of Europe; we simply tolerate it."
Shaun is often cynical, condescending, sarcastic, and pessimistic, but does have a playful side, often inserting humorous tidbits into the database entries of the Renaissance characters. Sometimes he will have little patience to talk to Desmond, other times he will lead off into long conversations. While Shaun's annoyance is usually directed at Desmond, he does insult Rebecca's immaturity by saying "the grown-ups are talking now" – even though she says she saved his life multiple times. During the modern segments, Shaun says that he enjoys his work researching behind a desk instead of being out in the field, although this is slightly debatable, as he is very sarcastic. When talking about his status as an Assassin, Shaun says "I've killed before, I expect to kill again. It's just that I’d prefer not to". This other side to Shaun's personality is also shown when he explains that he would like to sit in the Animus and perform Desmond's role.

Trivia
*Danny Wallace, the voice of the character, was contacted by Ubisoft when he went to the BAFTA video game awards with a friend. He was e-mailed and asked if he would like to be a character in an unknown video game, which he accepted. The game turned out to be Assassin's Creed II.
*Shaun is very cynical; he is quick to point out that the Assassins are still killers whatever their motives; making them no more the "good guys" than the Templars.
*Shaun displays a little envy towards Desmond, as he wants to explore the timeline himself. He no doubt holds Rebecca in higher regard than he likes to admit, since she did save him from Abstergo. Only Lucy seems to be above his snide remarks, either as a sign of greater respect or because he knows not to mess with her, though in brotherhood, he seems to show a lot more respect towards Desmond.
*Shaun states during the corrupted sequences that he forgot Rodrigo Borgia eventually became Pope even though there is a portrait of him on the wall next to his computer.
*Shaun says that he also provides tactical support for the Assassins on the field.
*In one conversation with Desmond, Shaun tells him that he has his own special type of ability, which allows him to see information and decode it more easily. He compares it to Desmond's Eagle Vision, only more "useful" in his opinion. He was probably referring more to his high intellect than some kind of super-human ability though.
*The character Shaun Hastings is named after Sean Hastings, a cult hero in the computer industry.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Shaun has a portrait of Cesare Borgia near his desk, as well as pictures of famous landmarks in Rome, such as the Pantheon, and some of Leonardo da Vinci's designs, like the crossbow.
*Shaun once dated a girl named Kate, whom he fondly calls Kitty-Kat. However, he is openly embarrassed when Rebecca reveals that, over lunch, Kate had told Rebecca that she and Shaun had never made it to "second base".
*Shaun persists in gaining an opportunity to enter the Animus, going so far as to e-mail Lucy a request to, however she never responds.
*Shaun's password for his Email account is GuyFawkes23, this is a reference to Guy Fawkes, who had a large hand in the failed GunPowder Plot, in 1605. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes)

The apprentices, also referred to as recruits, are Assassins who were formerly citizens saved by Ezio Auditore from the rough streets of Rome, during the war against the Templars. They have subsequently devoted themselves to learning the ways of the Assassin Order, motivated by their lust for revenge against the Borgia for corrupting the beautiful city of Rome.

Operating out of the Tiber Island headquarters, the apprentices were sent on missions across Europe in order to improve their skills and combat experience beyond their traditional training. However, the apprentices did not always survive these missions. When not on missions assigned by Ezio outside Rome, the apprentices would support the efforts of Ezio and his allies, providing reinforcement during Ezio's own missions.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Recruiting
After destroying a Borgia Tower, symbols will randomly appear on your map where citizens can be recruited. You can choose whether to save them or not, but they will eventually die if you don't. After saving a citizen from the guards, you'll have a choice to either speak to them or leave them, if you speak to them they will always join you, if you don't talk to them, they will eventually disappear. After successfully recruiting someone for his cause, Ezio sends them to Niccolò Machiavelli to become an Assassin. You can only recruit twelve apprentices (all of whom can be either male or female), but if one dies, they can always be replaced.

On the Field
In-game, Ezio is able to have up to six support him during his missions, and each time they fight, they will gain experience points to rank up. On the field, Ezio signals these Assassins by raising his arm and clenching his fist, indicating that they should strike. This signal, followed by an eagle's screech, is known as a "B.A.M." or a Brotherhood Assistance Maneuver. The apprentices can appear from anywhere, usually from inside hiding spots or over ledges. Particularly when against a mounted enemy, the apprentices can also come in on horseback, and can engage in horse chases. On rare occasions, when there are no hiding spots or buildings to appear from, the apprentices may be teleported into the battle by the Animus.

Missions
During the course of the game, players have the opportunity to send the apprentices to different cities across Europe to complete tasks and assassinations. If they finish the mission, the apprentices earn money for Ezio and experience points; but if they die, they will be lost forever. The chances of the Assassins completing the mission depend on how difficult the mission is, the amount of experience the Assassins already have, and how many Assassins you send. Though sending more Assassins increases the probability of success, each receive less experience, as the total experience gained must be divided equally among all of them. Missions take place in Rome, Florence, Venice, Constantinople, Lisbon, Barcelona, Moscow, Paris, London, Cologne and Calicut.

Customization
Players can also customize the apprentices' colors of their robes. Each one of the apprentices also has a different personality. Later on, players can use the experience points they've gained to upgrade their apprentices' armor and weapons. Once an apprentice achieves rank ten (Assassino) his/her armor will change and appear to look almost identical to Ezio's Master Assassin outfit, only having very subtle differences such as the cloak where the color is decided by the customized color they wore as "Students". These Master Assassin robes that the apprentices wear cannot be customized however, and always remain as Assassin White.

BAM System
As Ezio recruits and trains more apprentices, he will gain signals, which appear as red bars underneath the Synchronization bar. Up to 3 signals can be earned. The signals represent the amount of times Ezio can use the BAM system (Brotherhood Assistance Maneuver) which allows him to call his apprentices to aid him in the field.

The first signal is rewarded once one Assassin apprentice is recruited, then another when you have 4 Assassin apprentices. The third and final signal is unlocked once you have 6 Assassin apprentices. Once Ezio has used a signal, the signal won't be usable until roughly one minute has passed, and using all three of them will not allow Ezio to use the BAM until the first one has recharged. BAM signals can become unavailable if an insufficient number of apprentices are present in the guild, such as if some have left on missions.

Apprentices can also ride and use horses in battles, either attacking on horseback with their sword or hidden gun, or performing assassinations from horseback.

The apprentices are capable of three attack strategies:
*The Arrow Storm: This move is particularly useful if Ezio is blocked by a group of guards. He signals to the apprentices, and they shoot arrows at the targets and kill any in sight. If there is a large number of apprentices to aid Ezio, all the guards will be killed simultaneously. You must have at least six Assassin apprentices at your disposal to use the arrow storm, as it requires all 3 signals to use.
*The Air Assassination: This move is where the apprentices jump and assassinate the indicated targets. If there are some enemies remaining, the apprentices engage them in combat.
*The Smoke Assassination: A combination of air assassinating and smoke bombs, the apprentices jump and assassinate as many enemies as possible, then throw smoke bombs, creating a distraction and allowing Ezio to move in and attack as well.

Known In-game Apprentices
Trivia
*While all apprentices wear default uniforms similar to Ezio's, not all of them are ever exactly the same.
*The apprentices are equipped with only a single hidden blade, unlike Ezio who is granted two. They do, however, acquire a hidden gun, smoke bombs and various melee weapons as they level up.
*Though you can only have twelve apprentices at a time, the ability to recruit them is infinite, which means that, even if many of them die in battle, they can always be replaced.
*Apprentices are able to grab the horse of a dismounted enemy. This prevents its escape, and allows either Ezio or the Assassin himself or herself to ride it.
*Gabriel Graziani, the Community Developer for Brotherhood, had once stated that there will be a special cutscene when an Assassin dies. Although there is no such cut scene, Ezio may approach and close the eyes of the fallen Assassin, honoring them.
*It was stated by developers that the player could pick a single Assassin recruit to be a "right-hand Assassin." However, this action is not present in any form in the game.
*Once an apprentice is promoted to the rank of Assassino, there is a cut scene showing the Assassin performing a Leap of Faith into the Tiber, while Ezio and Niccolò watch. (Even though they cannot swim, they somehow survive the leap of faith into the river.)
*Assassins can't swim, but when they fall in water they are just gone and not dead, so you could use them again later.
*When managing Assassins for an Assassination contract, even when the odds of success are 100%, sometimes the mission can still be failed, although you will not lose the Assassin(s) used for that contract.
*It is possible to kill an apprentice by using the Apple of Eden with him/her in the blast range.
*There is an interesting glitch when both an Assassin and Ezio try to assassinate the same guard simultaneously. You will both appear to leap on him in high profile, but Ezio will then promptly teleport onto the next closest guard, killing him as well.
*Sometimes when Assassins are called into battle, they will jump out of haystacks, without any explanation of how they got there, or how long they had been waiting inside.
*The Assassins receive no damage from falling, even from the top of the Castel Sant'Angelo.
*Assassin Recruits can sometimes be heard saying "Requiescat in pace" when they kill an enemy.
*When reaching the rank of Assassino, the recruit will acquire a sword that is identical to the swords used by the Masyaf guards in Assassin's Creed.
*If you try to follow an Apprentice, they will eventually get to Tiber Island and stop, though taking various confusing turns trying to disappear from the players screen.
*Unlike Ezio, Assassin apprentices can use their pistol at the same time as a heavy weapon (if equipped).
*There is another interesting glitch that if you aerial assassinate a guard riding a horse at the same time your apprentice does Ezio will dissapear and you will appear to be the assassin riding the horse, however if you get off the horse the assassin leaves and runs away, leaving you as the horse but with severely limited movement. It is unknown if this glitch has been fixed and first occured on the Xbox system.
