Charlotte de la Cruz grew up in the Bronx in New York City. Her father disappeared from the family when she was a baby and she was raised by her mother. Her maternal grandmother, [[Florencia]], whom Charlotte idolized, came in and out of her life throughout her childhood. As a child, de la Cruz watched her family go almost bankrupt scrounging cash for her [[Charlotte de la Cruz's uncle|uncle]]'s healthcare after he was denied his insurance, causing her to distrust big businesses and corrupt politicians. She attended college in upstate New York, where she accumulated a large student debt. At some point in her life she moved to San Diego, California and became aware of the [[Assassin-Templar War]] after browsing conspiracy websites and playing [[Abstergo Entertainment]]'s [[Helix]] products.<ref name="issue1" />

They needed her to enter the Animus and relive her ancestor [[Thomas Stoddard]]'s memories of the era to determine if Joseph was telling the truth and had betrayed the Brotherhood, or if he was just baiting the Templars.<ref name="issue1" />

Charlotte progressed through the memories of her ancestor's interactions with Joseph's ancestor [[Jennifer Querry]] and was shocked to hear the [[Isu]] [[Consus]] speak directly to her through [[Dorothy Osborne]], instructing her to seek "the ones with greater knowledge". Galina became impatient and demanded they move ahead to intercept Joseph. Charlotte witnessed Jennifer's death, and it was agreed Joseph's ancestor did not know where the relic was hidden, so he was luring the Templars. Xavier and Galina left the van to rendezvous with Joseph. Charlotte had her doubts, and insisted Kody return her to Stoddard's memories. ===Confronting Joseph===
Entering the Abstergo facility Xavier and Galina had gone to meet Joseph at, Charlotte posed as an employee who had forgotten the code to a room she needed. The employee [[Brad]] helped her enter a storage room, but when he asked what department she worked in, she responded she was from World Share, which Brad recognized was a lie as Abstergo and World Share were enemies: Charlotte kneed him and bound and gagged him with duct tape before donning a hood and ascending a maintenance shaft.<ref name="issue5" />

Just as she neared Joseph's floor, she slipped and fell, but was able to spin onto another shaft and hold on with her knife: Kody noted she had begun to inherit Tom's abilities via the [[Bleeding Effect]]. Climbing up, she entered a gym and saw Joseph had already drowned Xavier in a swimming pool, and had broken Galina's leg. She attacked the burly traitor to prevent him from finishing her off, but he just tossed her into a wall. Joseph explained he betrayed the Brotherhood because his lover [[Christian]] had died on a mission overseen by Xavier, but he was still an Assassin and had planted a bomb. He explained to Charlotte why the Assassins sought her out and offered her the chance to join him. As Joseph's bomb went off, Abstergo burst in and opened fire. Charlotte carried Galina through an air vent, which returned her to the maintenance room Brad was in.<ref name="issue5" />

Charlotte was shocked to find Brad had died, and after noticing his medical alert bracelet, realized he had asthma and suffocated because he could not reach his inhaler. She then dolefully carried Galina back to the van. Galina ordered Kody to inform their leader [[Gavin Banks]] to send a team to Salem, but Charlotte told her it was unnecessary, as Joseph never told the Templars where Dorothy's body was buried. They hired two local doctors to reset Galina's leg; she wanted to leave, but Kody explained he could barely speak Spanish. As the female doctor tended to Galina, the male drew a pistol, but Galina pulled out her own and shot him to death, before ordering Charlotte to grab it and aim it at the female doctor. She explained she was knew nothing of his motives, stating he was new. Galina knocked her out.<ref name="issue6">''Assassin's Creed'' #006</ref>

They moved to the opposite motel, as it would be the last place the Templars would expect. Charlotte noted to Kody that she had wanted to leave back before the man intended to attack the, believing that she was not cut out for the situation. Kody reassured her that there was a reason she was there and that, due to her impressive performance, she might even help them find the hacker collective [[Erudito]]. Realizing they were the ones Consus had obliquely directed her to find, she had Kody hook her up to the [[Darknet]] to find them. After a night of searching, she discovered a meeting was planned for the following week, but the location was password-encrypted. When Galina and Xavier took Charlotte to their cell's hideout in the [[Salton Sea]], they introduce her to Kody, who was the one who found her online.

While Charlotte struggles to stay inside the Animus as she fails to synchronize with Stoddard's methods, Kody attributes her struggle to her being inexperienced with the process. Galina and Xavier meanwhile, discuss her progress, with Galina implying that Charlotte would not be able to synchronize with Stoddard and Xavier disagreeing with her. Galina in turn compares her to Joseph, saying that people can't change who they are, and that Joseph was finally showing his true colors by allying with the Templars. Kody reports that Charlotte has stabilized but if she continues to struggle she could damage herself.

Later, it is revealed by him that Joseph is being held by [[Didier Hawking]], a high level Templar with a specialisation in memory hacking. It is feared that Joseph will reveal their location, as such the team decides to load the Animus to a van to allow Charlotte to keep searching whilst they relocate.

Using the Animus, Charlotte witnessed Jennifer's death, and it was agreed Joseph's ancestor did not know where the relic was hidden, so he was luring the Templars. Xavier and Galina left the van to rendezvous with Joseph. Charlotte had her doubts, and insisted Kody return her to Stoddard's memories. Continuing, she realized Jennifer was not the only ancestor of Joseph present in Salem, and that he was indeed betraying the Brotherhood.

With the realization that Xavier and Galina have clearly been sent into a trap. Charlotte decides to go in after them, and Kody gives her the familiar Assassin hoodie attire.

Entering the Abstergo facility Xavier and Galina had gone to meet Joseph at, she manages to infiltrate deeper into the building by tricking an [[Brad|employee]] to open a secured door. She binds the man and presses on, declaring herself to not be a killer to Kody.

Once in Mexico City, they took a room in a motel and through some contacts with the local underground world, hired two discreet doctors to reset Galina's broken leg without asking questions. However, as the female doctor tended to Galina, the male, drew a pistol. Galina saw him, pulled out her own before him and shot the Templar agent to death. After having killed the men, she was surprised to find their quarry had been an [[United States|American]] Assassin called [[William Miles|William]]. As thanks, William gave her blueprints of the [[Animus]], which he had stolen from [[Abstergo Industries]], and asked her to construct the device before the Templars could. He then had her promise to keep him informed about their progress.<ref name="ACI MT" />

As William made to leave, she asked him how she would be able to contact him. William told her they would use their present location, the footbridge between the zoo's old and new properties, as a meeting place, instructing her to come during full moon if she ever needed him. Still confused, Medeya asked him how he would know whether or not she had been there. William revealed there was another Assassin cell within the city, surprising the Russian Assassin, who had been unaware of this. As he was to meet said cell shortly, William then departed.<ref name="ACI MT" />

Medeya was unable to understand what exactly she had been asked to build, and was hampered by a lack of resources in the wake of the Soviet Union's collapse. Even after more than a decade, she and her allies understood very little about the Animus, with the few subjects that had used it emerging as madmen. As a result, most of her fellow Assassins failed to see the use of the project, desiring to either weaponize it or abandon it altogether. Not wanting to create even more victims, she chose to be the machine's sole test subject, causing her sanity to be slowly frayed away by the [[Bleeding Effect]].<ref name="ACI MT" />

In late December 2012, a sudden power surge occurred while Medeya was in the Animus, causing her to experience a vision of [[Eve]], or so she thought. Believing it to be a sign, she redoubled her efforts and began forcing the remaining members of her cell into the machine. Her desperation pushed her to continue, disregarding the fact that one by one, she was driving her comrades insane. By late June 2013, her two daughters were the only sane individuals within the compound, with the maddened Assassins having been sealed away in another part of the facility.<ref name="ACI MT" />

On the 28th of June, the deranged Assassins began amassing near Medeya's lab, seemingly waiting for something. Simultaneously, the Russian government announced its plans to dissolve the Russian Academy of Sciences and take control of its remaining properties and facilities. Due to her brittle state of mind, Medeya was eventually possessed by [[Juno]], who had been lurking inside the facility's computer network ever since her release from the [[Grand Temple]]. At some point, her daughter Galina escaped the compound and managed to enlist the help of [[Gavin Banks]], [[Emmanuel Barraza]] and [[Emmett Leary]], Assassins from the ''[[Altaïr II]]'', asking them to assassinate her mother. On 20 March, they entered the laboratory in Protvino, where Galina almost single-handedly killed all the remaining Russian Assassins, among them her twin sister, Avdotya.<ref name="ACI S" />

After having killed the men, she was surprised to find their quarry had been an [[United States|American]] Assassin called [[William Miles|William]]. As thanks, William gave her blueprints of the [[Animus]], which he had stolen from [[Abstergo Industries]], and asked her to construct the device before the Templars could. He then had her promise to keep him informed about their progress.<ref name="ACI MT"/>

As William made to leave, she asked him how she would be able to contact him. William told her they would use their present location, the footbridge between the zoo's old and new properties, as a meeting place, instructing her to come during full moon if she ever needed him. Still confused, Voronina asked him how he would know whether or not she had been there. William revealed there was another Assassin cell within the city, surprising the Russian Assassin, who had been unaware of this. As he was to meet said cell shortly, William then departed.<ref name="ACI MT"/>

Medeya was unable to understand what exactly she had been asked to build, and was hampered by a lack of resources in the wake of the Soviet Union's collapse. Even after more than a decade, she and her allies understood very little about the Animus, with the few subjects that had used it emerging as madmen. As a result, most of her fellow Assassins failed to see the use of the project, desiring to either weaponize it or abandon it altogether. Not wanting to create even more victims, she chose to be the machine's sole test subject, causing her sanity to be slowly frayed away by the [[Bleeding Effect]].<ref name="ACI MT"/>

On the 28th of June, the deranged Assassins began amassing near Medeya's lab, seemingly waiting for something. Simultaneously, the Russian government announced its plans to dissolve the Russian Academy of Sciences and take control of its remaining properties and facilities. Due to her brittle state of mind, Medeya was eventually possessed by [[Juno]], who had been lurking inside the facility's computer network ever since her release from the [[Grand Temple]]. At some point, her daughter Galina escaped the compound and managed to enlist the help of [[Gavin Banks]], [[Emmanuel Barraza]] and [[Emmett Leary]], Assassins from the ''[[Altaïr II]]'', asking them to assassinate her mother. On 20 March, they entered the laboratory in Protvino, where Galina almost single-handedly killed all the remaining Russian Assassins, among them her twin sister.<ref name="ACI S"/>

The twins grew up in one such compound, located in Protvino, Moscow, which served as their home and hideout. Escaping the laboratory, Galina continued visiting the footbridge and eventually made contact with Gavin Banks, [[Emmett Leary]] and [[Emmanuel Barraza]], Assassins from the ''Altaïr II'', on 16 March 2014 in Moscow. She informed them of the Russian Brotherhood's situation, before asking them to assassinate her mother. Reconvening with the trio of Assassins two days later to discuss plans, she managed to convince Gavin into aiding her. During their meeting, Emmett attempted to explain to her that her mother could not have been speaking to Eve, as experiences in the Animus were purely passive, though Galina did not seem convinced.<ref name="ACI S"/>

Accompanied by her new allies, Galina journeyed back to Protvino, which was crawling with deranged Assassins, and broke into the laboratory. Although she had requested the back-up of Gavin and his team, Galina hardly needed help, using her two [[Hidden Blade]]s to put their attackers, among them her twin sister, out of their misery.<ref name="ACI S"/>

Eventually they found Galina's babbling mother strapped to the ancient Animus she had constructed, in a room filled with monitors. ===Working with the Assassins===
On 24 April, Galina, along with the rest of the ''Altaïr II''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s crew, was tasked with deciphering the riddles in [[William Miles]]' [[William Miles' Codex|codex]], in an effort to determine William's whereabouts. Eventually, they located a [[William's Secret Bunker|hidden cove]] in [[Norway]], where the ''Altaïr II'' docked on 1 May 2014.<ref name="ACI S"/>

When [[Rebecca Crane]] began upgrading the systems on the ''Altaïr II'', she discovered that a spy on the ship was uploading reports to a database run by a group called the [[Initiates]]. Unlike the rest of the crew, Galina was above suspicion, since she had only been with them for roughly a month; too short a time to have planted the bugs used by the Initiates. While the others were confined to their quarters on the ship until they could be interrogated and cleared of suspicion, Galina stayed in the bunker.<ref name="ACI S"/>

On 23 May, William finally gathered the crew members to announce the identity of the spy, naming [[Stephanie Chiu]] as the culprit. On William's command, Galina moved to kill Stephanie, but [[Eric Cooper]] intervened, revealing he was the spy instead. The two eventually confessed they worked together, with Eric writing the reports while Stephanie uploaded them to the Initiates database. William then revealed he had no intention of having them killed, as the Initiates appeared "fairly reasonable". Shaun then sent a video to the Initiates, offering them to join the Assassins.<ref name="ACI S"/>

By 2015, Galina was assigned to a new Assassin cell in [[California]], which was led by [[Xavier Chen]]. In September, a respected Assassin called [[Joseph (Assassin)|Joseph]], who had been thought dead, resurfaced and appeared to be joining the Templars. However, he had simultaneously sent Xavier's cell a message, claiming he was actually trying to lure out one of the Templars' top agents by promising to help them find a [[Piece of Eden]] purportedly located in [[Salem]] at the time of the [[Salem witch trials|witch trials]].<ref name="AC Comic #1">''[[Assassin's Creed (Titan Comics)|Assassin's Creed]]'' #001</ref>

The group felt conflicted over whether or not to trust him; Xavier was inclined to believe Joseph, but Galina thought it better to kill him, wanting to avoid a repeat of the [[Daniel Cross]] debacle. To verify whether or not his story about the artifact was a set-up, the Assassins decided to search for an individual with the necessary [[Genetic memory|genetic memories]]. [[Kody]], the cell's technician, hacked [[Abstergo Industries]]' [[Helix]] databases and found [[Charlotte de la Cruz]], an employee at [[Malta Banking Corporation]] in [[San Diego]].<ref name="AC Comic #1"/>

Galina and Xavier then went to San Diego to recruit Charlotte, who was enthusiastic about the prospect of aiding the Brotherhood. Their meeting was interrupted, however, when a group of men sent by the Templars arrived at Charlotte's apartment and attacked them. The two Assassins managed to eliminate them, following which they took Charlotte to their hideout located near the [[Salton Sea]], where they put her in an Animus in order to relive the memories of her ancestor, [[Tom Stoddard]], an Assassin active during the witch trials.<ref name="AC Comic #1"/>

However, Stoddard's ruthless nature clashed repeatedly with Charlotte's moral compass, causing the young woman to struggle with staying synchronized. As a result, Galina had little faith in their new recruit, which Chen objected to, leading the two to argue frequently.<ref name="AC Comic #2">''|Assassin's Creed'' #002</ref> Later on, Kody informed Galina and Xavier of his discovery that the Templar [[Didier Hawking]], a "memory-hacking genius", was the one Joseph was supposedly trying to lure out.<ref name="AC Comic #3">''Assassin's Creed'' #003</ref>

Deciding that finding answers in the past had become irrelevant, Galina ordered Kody to desynchronize Charlotte so they could move out and kill Joseph before he gave up the Brotherhood's secrets. When he hesitated, she moved forward and forcefully disconnected Charlotte herself. Xavier grabbed Galina by the shoulders in an attempt to intervene, but she retaliated by punching him and claiming he was a failure as a leader.<ref name="AC Comic #3"/>

Charlotte interrupted, claiming she needed to go back, as [[Consus]] had said the mission was not yet finished. At the mention of the [[Isu|First Civilization]] being, Galina briefly hesitated, before reasserting that they needed to deal with Joseph. Xavier then drew a gun, threatening to shoot Galina if she prevented Charlotte from resynching with Stoddard's memories.<ref name="AC Comic #3"/>

Before the situation could escalate any further, Kody intervened, informing his teammates that Charlotte could relive Stoddard's memories as they drove back to San Diego. Galina and Xavier complied and the group prepared to leave the Salton Sea hideout, with Galina setting the safe house on fire so any traces of their presence would be destroyed.<ref name="AC Comic #3"/>

Some hours later, as the group was arriving in San Diego, Charlotte finally discovered that Joseph's ancestor in Salem, [[Jennifer Querry]], died before witnessing the hiding place of the Piece of Eden, meaning Joseph had been telling the truth. After parking near the Templar safe house, Kody intended to hack into the building's security cameras, but instead found a file on Joseph that revealed Xavier had overseen the mission during which Joseph had disappeared. Galina scolded Xavier for risking their lives by attempting to make up for past mistakes. Despite the tension between them, Galina and Xavier headed out shortly thereafter to save Joseph.<ref name="AC Comic #4">''Assassin's Creed'' #004</ref>

Galina and Xavier found Joseph in a gym, where he confirmed her suspicions by lashing out at them. Galina struck back but he broke her leg, and then she watched as he and Xavier fell into the gym's pool, where Xavier was strangled and drowned to death. Joseph prepared to finish her off, but Charlotte appeared and leaped to her defense. Joseph tried to sway her to his side, detonating a bomb upstairs to prove he was still an Assassin, albeit a rogue one. He also claimed the Assassins had recruited Charlotte because she had precognitive powers. Abstergo burst in the room to kill Joseph, and Charlotte carried Galina out through an air vent. They came out in a maintenance room, where Charlotte discovered she had accidentally killed an asthmatic [[Brad|employee]] she'd bound and gagged to cover her intrusion.<ref name="AC Comic #5">''Assassin's Creed'' #005</ref>

Charlotte loaded Galina into their van. Galina ordered Kody inform Gavin and that a team be sent to Salem, but Charlotte told them it would be unnecessary, explaining she could tell from the powers Joseph had explained to her. As they drove away, Galina thanked Charlotte, but she was dejected after Xavier's death and her thoughtlessness that caused the death of Brad the employee.<ref name="AC Comic #5"/>

In late October 2015, Galina was contacted by [[Bishop]], who asked her to meet up with [[Shaun Hastings]] and [[Rebecca Crane]] in [[London]] and help them locate a [[Shrouds of Eden|Shroud of Eden]]. Arriving at night, she snuck up on Shaun, who had been reminiscing about an [[Desmond Miles|old friend]], and made him jump. When Shaun recalled their mission in Paris, Galina teased him for "screaming like a baby". She then eagerly told him she would kill Berg.<ref name="ACS"/>

Once the Shroud's location was found by an Assassin [[Helix initiate|initiate]], Galina, Shaun and Rebecca traveled to [[Buckingham Palace]]'s vault and immediately engaged Berg, [[Violet da Costa]] and [[Isabelle Ardant]], who had arrived there ahead of the Assassins. For a while, Galina and Berg were evenly matched, with Berg managing to break her Hidden Blades, though she eventually gained the upper hand and knocked him unconscious.<ref name="ACS"/>

Just as she was about to kill Berg by delivering a deadly blow to his head, the rest of Sigma Team arrived, forcing her to abandon her target and take out the reinforcements, leaving Berg alive in the process. Once they had been dealt with, she returned to Shaun and Rebecca, with the latter having been shot during the struggle, and told them it was time to go.<ref name="ACS"/>
