Most notably, Achilles was the mentor to the Native American Assassin, Ratonhnhaké:ton.

Biography
Life as an Assassin
Recruited in the mid 1730s, Achilles became the Mentor of the Colonial Assassin Brotherhood in 1746, as he had a gift for both recruitment and organization. Under his leadership, the Assassins were based in a manor and spanned across the colonies and most of the frontier. Achilles also strengthened relations between the Iroquois clans. He was married to a woman named Abigail and fathered a son, Connor Davenport, however, both died of typhoid fever in 1755.

By 1763, the Assassins were decimated to all but himself, during the aftermath of the French and Indian War. The Templar Order grew more powerful and was able to capture the defeated Achilles. Confident that Achilles was no longer a threat, the Templars decided to show mercy, and allowed Achilles to live if he resigned his role as an Assassin. Achilles went into exile in the wilderness of the frontier, residing alone in the Davenport Manor for the next six years.

Meeting Ratonhnhaké:ton
The world's moved on, boy. Best you do too.

In 1769, Achilles was visited by Ratonhnhaké:ton, a young Kanien'kehá:ka boy, who wished to be trained in the ways of the Assassins. Achilles coldly refused, dismissing the boy. Ratonhnhaké:ton, however, camped in the manor's stables for the night, and, the next morning, knocked on Achilles' door. Achilles again refused, angrily yelling at Ratonhnhaké:ton to leave, prompting him to go as far as climbing and attempting to enter the manor from the balcony. Achilles approached Ratonhnhaké:ton, tripped him onto the floor with his walking cane, and warned him to give up his heroic pursuits or he would end up dead.

Ratonhnhaké:ton departed and once again camped out in the stables. During the night, he encountered bandits intending to rob Achilles. Ratonhnhaké:ton bravely fought the bandits, but was knocked to the ground, however, Achilles rescued the boy by stealthily killing the remaining robbers. After having Ratonhnhaké:ton rid of the bodies, Achilles finally allowed him inside his manor, where Ratonhnhaké:ton explained that he was guided to find Achilles by a "spirit." Achilles in turn revealed the nature of the war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.

In the basement, Achilles revealed the portraits of the Templar conspirators: William Johnson, Jonathan Pitcairn, Thomas Hickey, Benjamin Church, Nicholas Biddle, Charles Lee, and the Grand Master Haytham Kenway, the man who was also Ratonhnhaké:ton's father. Achilles agreed to train Ratonhnhaké:ton, to assist him in becoming an Assassin, in order to ultimately eliminate the Templars who were aiming to seize control of the colonies.

Rebuilding the Homestead
After six months of rigorous physical and mental training, Ratonhnhaké:ton accompanied Achilles on a trip to Boston to gather materials for the manor's repairs. While in the streets, Achilles sent Ratonhnhaké:ton to a store to purchase items, also giving him the less conspicuous name "Connor," the namesake of his deceased son. Not long after, Achilles and Connor witnessed the Boston Massacre, instigated by Haytham and Charles Lee. Connor attempted to prevent the massacre, but was framed and became a wanted man. After being abandoned by Achilles, Connor was able to remove his notoriety with the assistance of Samuel Adams, returning to the Davenport Homestead.

Achilles and Connor continued in their efforts of rebuilding the homestead. After six months of further training and lessons in learning the Assassin and Templar history, the Aquila was repaired and ready for setting sail. After being given nautical training by Robert Faulkner, Connor returned to the manor. Achilles led Connor down to the manor's basement, in order to bestow on him the Assassin robes there.

Though Achilles admitted that the Order usually had a ceremony for such an occasion, neither he nor Connor seemed the type for such formality. Instead, after Connor had donned the robes, Achilles simply verbally welcomed him into the Brotherhood of Assassins.

Hunt for William Johnson
Connor, take care. These men are powerful.

Connor donned the Assassin robes and Achilles introduced him to the rope darts. Connor's close friend Kanen'tó:kon visited, revealing that William Johnson intended to purchase the Kanien'kehá:ka land and subjugate their people to relocate. An outraged Connor condemned this as little more than theft. Achilles advised caution to his pupil, reminding him of how powerful the Templars were. Connor stated that he had no choice, as he had made a promise to protect his people and land. Reluctantly, Achilles instructed him to seek out Samuel Adams in Boston. To his annoyance, Connor buried a hatchet in the post of the manor to signify the start of a war, though Achilles insisted that he could have used a tree.

Connor returned after destroying a shipment of British tea that Johnson and the Templars had been smuggling to profit from taxation. Connor believed that this would stop the Templars and keep his land safe, however, Achilles warned Connor not to underestimate Templars' resourcefulness. Six months later, Connor set out and successfully assassinated Johnson, ending the Templar threat to steal the Kanien'kehá:ka land.

Beginning of the Revolution
In 1775, Connor was approached by a courier sent by Paul Revere, requesting his help. Connor declined, not considering himself part of the Patriots' struggle, however, Achilles urged Connor to go, since he would need their aid in assassinating John Pitcairn of the British Army, another Templar.

Achilles later requested that Connor retrieve his robes hidden in a cave on the Homestead, since Achilles himself was too frail to make the journey. Connor succeeded, to which Achilles explained that the robes originally belonged to the first Colonial Assassin, John de la Tour, who passed them down to Achilles. Connor joined the Patriots against the British Army, during which he fought in the Battles at Lexington, Concord, and successfully assassinated Pitcairn during the Battle at Bunker Hill. With Pitcairn's death, Connor discovered the Templar plot to murder George Washington.

Protecting Washington
Connor returned to the Homestead, where Achilles introduced Connor to Benjamin Tallmadge, an Assassin ally. Connor traveled to New York to assassinate Thomas Hickey, thus preventing the murder of Washington. However, Connor was imprisoned, framed for the attempted murder of Washington, and sentenced to death.

Achilles and Connor's other Assassin recruits traveled to New York to rescue Connor. As Connor was escorted to the gallows by Hickey, Achilles approached Connor from the crowd, reminding him that he still had allies and only needed to signal them. A recruit severed the noose and Achilles handed Connor his tomahawk underneath the gallows. Connor succeeded in killing Hickey, saving Washington in the process and proving his innocence.

Both Achilles and Connor, soon after, traveled to Philadelphia, where Connor went to witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence and meet with Washington. While walking through Independence Hall, Achilles admitted to Connor that he was impressed by his accomplishments so far. However, he attempted to discourage Connor from revealing the Templars to Washington, concerned that it would only harm the Patriots' goal for freedom.

Connor's alliance with Haytham
Achilles and Connor would drift apart over the next few months, disagreeing over courses of actions. While Connor believed he should tell Washington the truth of the Templar plots against him, Achilles argued the opposite warning that such a misguided effort would only involve and endanger Washington and the lives of his men.

The argument came to a head in the winter of 1777, as Connor decided to warn Washington. Achilles lectured Connor, informing him that the Assassins were meant to be secretive in order to protect others. In turn, Connor criticized Achilles' inaction as a mentor and even blamed him for failing the Assassin Brotherhood and allowing the Templars to dominate the Colonies. Achilles, however, deplored Connor's actions, warning him that he will only lead people and the world to ruin.

Connor would go on to hunt for Benjamin Church to recover stolen weapons and supplies for Washington. After which, he returned to the Homestead and apologized to Achilles for speaking against him unfairly, though Achilles did admit that he failed the Brotherhood. Connor also revealed that he had met his father, and, despite their differences, believed that an alliance, and possibly peace, could be established.

Final days
By 1781, Achilles had been weakened by age, leaving him bedridden. Connor explained that Charles Lee had been disgraced, but Washington had spared him. Achilles stated that both Lee and Haytham had to die, despite Connor's continued insistence that without Lee, his father may be willing to ally with him. However, Achilles warned Connor not to be misguided by his emotions.

With the subsiding of the Great Fire of New York, Achilles also requested Connor retrieve a painting from the burned remains of his home in New York. Connor returned, however, Achilles decided to not yet reveal and hang the painting until the time was right.

Death
Achilles soon after passed away quietly in his sleep. When Connor discovered his body, he also uncovered a note addressed to him in Achilles' handwriting. In the note, Achilles apologized for never being able to say goodbye to Connor properly, and also thanked him, expressing pride and gratitude in Connor for the community he had raised at the Homestead, giving him hope for the future of America and its people.

A funeral was held on the hill, behind his manor overlooking the sea, next to the gravestones of his wife and son. The funeral was attended by all of the inhabitants of the Homestead that Connor had brought together. While others laid roses on his coffin, wrapped in the Davenport Homestead flag, Connor placed a feather on the casket, symbolizing the bond they shared as Assassins.

Connor inherited Achilles' robes, placed the painting of his family on the wall in the manor, and later attended to the grave to pay his respects, hoping that Achilles had found peace and the two would one day meet again.

Personality
As a result of losing his family and for failing the Assassin Order under his leadership, Achilles lost his will to fight and became stoic and disillusioned in the Assassins' cause. When first meeting and training Ratonhnhaké:ton, Achilles was a strict, insensitive, and somewhat short-tempered man. He was quick to reprimand, discourage, and correct his naive and brash apprentice.

Connor possessed a highly romanticized and idealized view of the Assassins and his mission, believing that destroying the Templars would grant freedom to all of mankind. This was a strong contrast to Achilles' cynical but rational view of the world. As a result, Achilles often lectured Connor to warn him that his views and actions, while noble, were misguided and potentially dangerous. Connor would argue in disagreement and the two criticized each other on occasions.

Despite this, Achilles was not without heart, as he genuinely cared for Connor and took pride in his accomplishments. Achilles became an important father figure and mentor. Over the years, Achilles would watch as the Homestead would flourish into a thriving and loving community, giving Achilles a sense of hope for future of America.

Trivia
*At the Davenport manor, Connor could play games of Fanorona with Achilles. After his death, however, Father Timothy replaces Achilles as Connor's opponent.
*Achilles' nickname, "the Old Man on the Hill," is reminiscent of the moniker given to another Mentor in the Order, Rashid ad-Din Sinan: "the Old Man of the Mountain."
*As Achilles died in the final Homestead memory, it could have taken place at any point between 1781 and 1783. This was because the Homestead memories were optional side objectives, and as such, a date of death cannot be pinpointed.
*Coincidentally, both Achilles and Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad died similar deaths, in that both died alone in their base of operations, while sitting in a chair and holding something in their hands.

Manuel Palaiologos (1455 – 1512) was a Byzantine nobleman, born as an heir to the throne of the Byzantine Empire. In his youth, Manuel became associated with and joined the Templar Order, fueling his hopes of restoring his family's lost empire.

Posing as a wealthy Ottoman citizen, Manuel schemed the revival of the Empire and the retaking of Constantinople, which was at the time ruled by the Ottoman Empire. Together with Shahkulu, Manuel expanded his army of Byzantine Templars, secretly hidden in Cappadocia, to make his childhood hopes a reality under the Templar banner.

Biography
Early life
Manuel was born circa 1455, two years after the Fall of Constantinople, as an heir to the Byzantine throne. He lived with his family in Morea, but in 1460 they fled to Corfu. The family later traveled to Rome, where his father, Thomas Palaiologos, was recognized as the Byzantine Emperor.

During their time in Rome, Manuel and his brother Andreas fostered hopes of refounding the Byzantine Empire. Through Andreas, Manuel became acquainted with Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Templar Order, and Cem, brother to the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II. The brothers became members of the Templar Order, and with Rodrigo's support they schemed to conquer Constantinople and restore the Byzantine Empire. While his brother preferred a more military approach to taking back the city, Manuel tended to go for quieter schemes.

Reviving the Byzantines
Manuel moved to Constantinople some time after 1485, where he traded his rights to the Byzantine throne with Sultan Bayezid II for a wealthy pension. He converted to Islam, and became the very model of an Ottoman citizen. By the 1490s, when Rodrigo Borgia became Pope Alexander VI, he lost interest in the Palaiologi's plans for Constantinople and the two brothers had to continue their plans without his support.

In 1509, after an earthquake struck Constantinople and the Ottoman Sultan fled, Manuel brought an army of Byzantine Templars into public light and a secret war erupted between the Byzantines and Ottomans throughout the country. Operating from the underground city of Derinkuyu in Cappadocia, Manuel kept his involvement a secret while the Ottoman Sultan continued to be unaware of the Byzantines' presence as he fought with his son Selim over the succession of the Ottoman throne.

Prince Ahmet, son of Sultan Bayezid II and his heir, developed an interest in the Templars' ideology and quickly joined their ranks, working his way up through the hierarchy. Younger and more charismatic than Manuel, Ahmet silently took his position as leader of the Byzantine Templars away from him.

Later life
Manuel was eventually assigned to the Templars' Masyaf expedition to retrieve the Masyaf Keys needed to open the underground library in Masyaf, built by the legendary Mentor of the Levantine Assassins Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. With the help of the journal "The Secret Crusade" by Niccolò Polo, the Templars were able to retrieve a Masyaf Key from underneath Topkapı Palace in Constantinople, which was brought into Manuel's possession.

In late 1511, Manuel made a deal with Tarik Barleti, captain of the Ottoman Janissaries, to buy Ottoman guns for his secret army in Cappadocia. Together with his fellow Templar, the Turkmen renegade Shahkulu, Manuel met with Tarik in Constantinople and checked on the weapons in the city's arsenal.

After Ezio's arrival in Derinkuyu, the Byzantine Templars hidden in the city quickly saw their ranks diminished and eventually Shahkulu was assassinated by the lone Assassin. After Ezio caused the Templars' munitions supplies to explode, Manuel came into the public to calm and rally the citizens. As soon as he caught sight of Ezio, Manuel fled deeper into the caverns.

He rapidly came to a halt at an underground river, where he was forced to turn around and confront Ezio. Without much effort, Ezio defeated Manuel and with his dying breath, Manuel gave Ezio his Masyaf Key and dared him to see if he could reach Altaïr's library alive.
*Ezio: Your dream dies with you, Manuel. Your empire is gone.
*Manuel: Ah, but I am not the only one with this vision, Assassin. The dream of our Order is universal. Ottoman, Byzantine... these are only labels. Costumes and facades. Beneath these trappings, all Templars are part of the same family.
*Ezio: Enough prattling. I am here for the Masyaf Key.
*Manuel: Then take it. Take it and seek your fortune. See if you get within one hundred leagues of that library before one of us finishes you off.
Tarik Barleti (1470 – 1511) was the Captain of the Janissaries in the early 16th century, during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II. He was well known for his prowess as a leader, his admiration for Prince Selim I, as well as his hatred for Prince Ahmet.

In 1511, Tarik devised a plot meant to eliminate the remnants of the Byzantine Empire from where they hid, feigning allegiance with them to discover their base. Plotting in secrecy, Tarik was able to form an agreement with the former Byzantine heir and Templar, Manuel Palaiologos, and from there, he began his plan to eradicate the Sultan's long-standing enemies.

As captain of the Sultanate's most powerful fighters, Tarik was as able a warrior as he was arrogant, and he led the Janissaries with an iron fist. Though stoic and somewhat cruel, Tarik was a man of honor, valuing strength, skill and logic above most other virtues.

Biography
Early life
Tarik was born Skender Barleti in 1470. A Christian Albanian, he was the second eldest son of the family, in which he had four brothers and three sisters. His previous life was made irrelevant when the Ottoman's Devşirme levied him into their ranks, and he eventually became one of the Janissaries.

As one of the Sultanate's elite soldiers, Tarik became extremely loyal to the Ottoman Empire, and after some time, he became the Janissaries' Captain. By then, his admiration for Prince Selim and his hatred for Selim's brother Ahmet became very well known among his peers, and other noteworthy figures of the Empire.

Though loyal to the Sultan, Tarik expressed great anger when Bayezid appointed Ahmet as his successor. As Captain, Tarik's word had a significant influence on his subordinates, resulting in most of the Janissaries sharing his opinion of the two princes. Many Janissaries also came to believe that Bayezid had become a weak sovereign.

Also during his time as captain, Tarik released a lady of the Sultan's harem, Dilara, out of kindness and a desire for her affections. Though Dilara did not return his feelings for her – which became a source of grief for him in his later years – Tarik nevertheless continued to work with her, tasking Dilara with reconnaissance missions.

In 1511, after a failed attack on Selim's son, Prince Suleiman I, at Topkapı Palace, Tarik met with Suleiman and Ahmet in private. There, Tarik offered to lead the investigation on the attack, though Suleiman said that he would, due to Tarik being a possible suspect. After a brief meeting with Ahmet, where Tarik openly admitted his dislike for the Prince, Tarik left the palace and returned to patrol the city.

Unbeknownst to Tarik, Suleiman had tasked the Assassin Ezio Auditore with the job of investigating him and his activities, due to his failure to defend the palace during the assassination attempt. From then on, Ezio tailed Tarik in secret, starting at the Grand Bazaar, where he and his men usually spent their time.

Plot against the Templars
Some time after the Topkapı attack, Tarik had several firearms prepared to be shipped to a Templar base, as part of a deal with Byzantine leader Manuel Palaiologos, in exchange for a large sum of money. Meeting at Constantinople, Tarik gave Manuel access to the arsenal in order to retrieve the cargo. Afterwards, the Janissary captain and the soldiers that accompanied him returned to their camp, where Tarik awaited more news regarding the shipment.

On eventually receiving a message from Manuel's forces that stated the firearms had arrived in Cappadocia, it came accompanied by a map to the Byzantine base, in order to allow Tarik's own men to join them. With a few of Tarik's spies amongst the Byzantines, they expected to receive word once Manuel's forces had decamped, and planned to ambush them once they had reached Bursa.

Death
Unbeknownst to Tarik, Ezio Auditore – disguised as a Janissary – eavesdropped on his meeting within the Janissary camp. After learning of the Byzantine's locations, Ezio assassinated Tarik, under the orders of Suleiman, due to the Assassin believing him to be guilty of treason.

In his final moments, Tarik confided with Ezio about his plans against the Byzantine Templars, revealing his scheduled ambush by handing him a parchment that detailed the location of the Templars. Tarik blamed himself for his own pride, though he had faith that Ezio would see his plan through to the end. Asking Ezio to destroy the Templars for the sake of his homeland, Tarik passed away.

Suleiman was later informed of the Captain's untimely death by Ezio, and immediately felt guilty over his hasty judgement. He then instructed Ezio to finish Tarik's plot against the Templars, using the information that he had gained from his investigations.

Tarik's death also affected the reputation of Prince Ahmet. Due to Tarik's quarrel with Ahmet a little before his death, the Janissaries had suspected the prince as the mastermind behind their captain's assassination. While conducting an investigation on Tarik's murder, the Janissaries had the Great Chain over the Golden Horn raised, and would only lower it once the murderer had been detained.

After destroying the Great Chain to depart for the Templar base, Ezio arrived at Cappadocia with Piri Reis by March of 1512. There, he met with Dilara, and managed to destroy the Templar city, assassinating Manuel Palaiologos in the process.

Characteristics and personality
At an early age, Tarik excelled in combat, and was able to endure the Janissaries' extremely rigorous training. In time, he had forgotten about his life before being levied, and began to show unwavering loyalty to the Ottoman Empire, with his skill and loyalty eventually granting him the position of Captain.

As Captain, Tarik was a proud and ambitious man, matched by his capability. Valuing law and order, Tarik enforced the city rules through any means, which were often cruel towards the people. This resulted in most civilians hating him and his men, though subsequently earning them the respect of most authority figures.

Due to the political rights that the Janissaries held, Tarik was free to speak his mind about political matters, and whenever he spoke, he would be frank and direct about his opinion to most his comrades. His revelations of his honest opinions led to him being suspected of treason by Suleiman.

Tarik valued strength of mind and body above words and doctrine. He often cited logic as his basis on judgment of character, as evidenced by his opinion on both of the Ottoman Empire's viable Sultan successors. Tarik also admired boldness and skill, as evidenced by his infatuation with Dilara.

Barleti was also a man of cunning and strategy, as was seen in his planned ambush for the Byzantines. However, he was also very secretive about his ploys, only discussing his plans to his closest subordinates and men. Such secrecy resulted in his death, though he accepted full blame for his hubris.

Final words
*Tarik: Ah, what a bitter irony. Is this the result of Suleiman's investigation?
*Tarik: I blame myself. Not for treason, but hubris. I was preparing an ambush. Preparing to strike the Byzantine Templars where they felt safest.
*Ezio: What proof do you have of this?
*Tarik: See here. This will lead you to the Byzantines in Cappadocia. Destroy them if you can.
*Ezio: You have done well, Tarik. Forgive me.
*Tarik: Protect my homeland, Assassin. Allah ashkina, (In God's name,) redeem the honor we have lost in this fight.

Trivia
*Tarik was one of the few characters not to have an entry in the Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia.
*In the novelization of Revelations, the circumstances of Tarik's death were slightly different, as Ezio confronted him directly.
*In the memory "Honor, Lost and Won", if Ezio approached Tarik unarmed while he observed the sparring Janissaries, Tarik would start a duel with Ezio, instead of ordering his men to attack. In the fight, Tarik would have three times the health and endurance of a regular Janissary.
**Should Tarik be injured, some Janissaries would intervene in the fight, either by confronting Ezio or pushing him, leaving him vulnerable to an attack.

Ahmet (1465–1512) was an Ottoman Şhehzade (Prince), and the oldest son of Bayezid II. He was also the elder brother of Selim I and Korkut, and uncle of Suleiman I.

Tired of the feuds that divided men, Ahmet joined the Templar Order, eventually becoming the leader of the Byzantine Templars, while simultaneously having been chosen as the heir of his father, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

Believing that he was guaranteed control over the Ottoman Empire, Ahmet started an expedition to find the Masyaf Keys needed to open the hidden library in Masyaf. Here, he believed he would find the location of the "Grand Temple", and intended to use the power hidden there to further the Templar cause.

Eventually, Ahmet's efforts were thwarted by the combined efforts of the Ottoman Assassins and their Italian Assassin ally, the Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Ultimately, Ahmet's father chose Selim as his heir instead, and upon marching to Constantinople, Selim met with Ahmet and swiftly killed him.

Biography
Early life
Born the eldest living son of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II in 1465, Ahmet was selected as his father's heir at childhood. With Ahmet sharing his distaste for war and an affection for knowledge with his father, many believed him to be the most reasonable choice.

Ahmet was eventually assigned to govern the Anatolian city of Amasya, as was the tradition of all Ottoman princes in the Empire. As time progressed, he continued to impress, and seemed ever more likely to be a successful candidate for the crown prince, especially when the Grand Vizier Hadim Ali Pasha began to support him.
In 1509, an 1509 Istanbul earthquake, at which point Bayezid had disappeared from Constantinople.
In time, the Byzantine Templars led by Manuel Palaiologos caught the eye of Ahmet. Tired of the divisions within mankind and agreeing that all the people should be united under one ruler, Ahmet joined the ranks of the Byzantine Empire. However, this act caused great internal conflict for Ahmet, as he was still an Ottoman prince, and acting for either the Ottomans or the Byzantines would mean turning his back on his other affiliation.
Ahmet, much younger and more charismatic than the elderly Manuel Palaiologos, slowly slipped into the position of leader of the Byzantine Templars, with Manuel becoming his second-in-command. At the same time, Bayezid and Selim had engaged in a conflict, as Selim was making an effort to gain the Ottoman throne for himself.

Gaining power in the Empire
In 1511, Ahmet initiated several plans to further his influence in the Ottoman Empire. One of these was to locate the "Grand Temple" of the First Civilization, which the Templars had heard word of after acquiring a journal, "The Secret Crusade" by Niccolò Polo.

From this, they learned of the existence of the library of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad - the late Mentor of the Levantine Assassins - located in Masyaf, Syria. Believing that the library would direct the Templars to the Temple, Ahmet entrusted Manuel Palaiologos with the Masyaf expedition, and the search for the keys needed to open the library, while Ahmet himself focused his attention on matters in Constantinople.

In the heart of the Ottoman Empire, Ahmet initiated a plot to have the Templars abduct Ahmet's own nephew, Suleiman, during a cultural exhibition. If this were to be successful, Ahmet would rescue him from the Byzantines, and be heralded a hero. Ahmet himself attended the celebration in Topkapı Palace, while Templars disguised as guests were tasked with abducting the young Shehzadem Suleiman.

However, to Ahmet's displeasure, the Templar infiltrators were killed by several Ottoman Assassins, who had entered the party disguised as Italian minstrels, on orders of their leader, Yusuf Tazim. Following the failed plot, Ahmet took advantage of the Janissaries' well-known distaste for him, and accused Janissary Captain Tarik Barleti of a conspiracy against him, since the Janissaries were tasked with the Prince's protection.

Some time later, Tarik was murdered in the Janissary camp, and it was commonly believed that Ahmet was the one responsible for his death.

Finding his nephew Suleiman in Topkapı Palace to inform him of the event, Ahmet noticed Suleiman was meeting with Ezio Auditore - introduced to Ahmet as "Marcello" by Suleiman - which led to Ahmet growing suspicious of the man, and of his interactions with his nephew.

Death
In March 1512, Ahmet personally traveled to Cappadocia, where Manuel Palaiologos was hiding and forming an army together with the renegade Shahkulu. Ahmet arrived shortly after Ezio had killed Manuel and taken the Masyaf key from him, giving him an opportunity to confront the Assassin.

Revealing himself to be the leader of the Byzantine Templars, Ahmet threatened to capture Ezio's love interest Sofia Sartor, after Ezio claimed to not know of the other Masyaf keys. Ahmet left his subordinates to take care of Ezio, while he returned to Constantinople to order Sofia's capture.

The capture, which resulted in the death of the Ottoman Assassin leader Yusuf Tazim, infuriated the Assassins, and led them to an all-out assault on the arsenal within Constantinople, where Ahmet was temporarily hiding.

Though many of his men were killed during the attack, Ahmet managed to salvage his own life by reminding Ezio that he still held Sofia. Offering to spare Sofia in exchange for the Masyaf keys, Ahmet arranged a meeting with Ezio near Galata Tower.

Ahmet met with Ezio on the rampart connected to Galata Tower soon afterwards, and after some mutual hostility, Ezio handed over the keys. Ahmet then directed Ezio to Sofia atop Galata Tower, but unbeknownst to the Assassin, the woman atop the Galata Tower was not Sofia, as Ahmet had ordered Sofia to be killed in a square not too far from the tower. Ahmet, finally having all keys in his possession, triumphantly hurried off to Masyaf.

As Ahmet and his entourage left Constantinople by several horse-drawn wagons, they were followed by Ezio and Sofia, who had been rescued from Ahmet's men. Leaving his soldiers to take care of the two, Ahmet rode ahead, and a chase ensued.

Ezio was able to dispatch the other wagons, before Ahmet smashed Ezio's cart, causing Ezio to fall off. Ezio was able to catch himself by using a parachute, holding onto a rope attached to the wagon as Sofia continued the pursuit of Ahmet.

After several more unsuccessful attempts from the Templars to shake Ezio and Sofia, Ahmet obliterated Sofia's cart, thinking he had finally lost them. As Ahmet proceeded onwards, Ezio lunged at him from a nearby ledge, and knocked him from his seat.

This resulted in both men free-falling off a cliff, and the two engaged in melee combat in mid-air. As they neared the ground, however, Ezio deployed another parachute to break the fall, and Ahmet survived by clinging onto him during the descent.

As they faced each other again on solid ground, and wondered what would happen next, Ahmet's brother Selim arrived, accompanied by the Sultan's army.

Selim revealed that their father had abdicated the throne, and had chosen Selim as his heir. Selim proceeded to strangle Ahmet, before throwing him off a cliff to his death.
{{Quote|You are weak, Ahmet. Pensive in times of war and restless in times of peace.

Ahmet, being a member of the most powerful family and rulers of Constantinople, was a proud and arrogant man. The fact that he had counted on his father's support of him becoming the next Sultan only made this worse, as he felt no doubt about his father's choice.

Ahmet constantly paid attention to his relations with the public, as he realized the equal importance of their support. Therefore, he was easily upset by events as Tarik Barleti's death, which he regarded as an assault on his public image.

However, a significant proportion of the citizens of Constantinople preferred Ahmet's brother, Selim, to become the Sultan. They argued that Ahmet was a weak man, who had difficulties with making important choices when it came to war, and who would become restless in times of peace.

As leader of the Byzantine Templars, Ahmet was an intelligent and cunning man. Due to his age and charm, he was able to rule over men who would not normally accept another as their superior. Ahmet managed to set up a scheme to get his hands on the Masyaf keys, while simultaneously maintaining his good public image.
