He also knew of Ezio's ability: Eagle Vision. He was a descendant of Altair and an ancestor of Desmond Miles. He secretly trained his son, Federico, of the ways of an Assassin, even before the beginning of Lineage, though Federico was unaware of it.
Giovanni is the main character of the Assassin's Creed world-based short film: Assassin's Creed: Lineage, where he is portrayed by Romano Orzari.
Biography
Assassin's Creed: Lineage
Giovanni Auditore is a Florentine nobleman who lived in 15th century Italy: the Renaissance. He is also an Assassin, a descendant of Altair. He serves for the powerful Lorenzo de' Medici and justice. In 1476, a conspiracy is plot to overthrow Lorenzo and the Medici family from their position. One night, hiding from his children, Giovanni is about to execute a mission for Lorenzo. In his secret chamber, hidden behind the hearth of the fireplace, Giovanni dons his Assassin's outfit and weapons, including an updated Hidden Blade. Before he leaves, he peeks in on his family having dinner, smiling as he makes eye contact with his wife, Maria. His teenage son, Ezio, spots the exchange, but says nothing. Giovanni presses a pressure panel on the fireplace mantel, which lowers the active hearth, revealing the chamber's entrance. From the chamber he exits through a long, dark passage way, emerging onto the rooftops.

He intercepted, in the dark streets of Florence, Rodrigo Borgia and three of his men. Rodrigo flees but Giovanni manages to capture one of his men. He brought him to Lorenzo, and the prisoner reveals through torture that the Duke of Milan, Galeazzo Maria Sforza, will be assassinated in the church during the feast of Santo Stefano. Giovanni heads to Milan, but arrives too late as he sees through the crowds the assassination of Sforza. Despite his efforts to capture at least one of the murderers for interrogation, the killers are all dispatched by Giovanni and Sforza's vengeful guards. After his mission, Giovanni goes back home to see his family. He then meditates on the death of Sforza and its consequences.

Observing the Ducat he looted from one of Sforza's murderers, he understands that his next quest will lead him to Venice. He immediately goes to the floating city, infiltrating the Palazzo Ducale. There, he spies the conversation between the Barbarigo cousins. A messenger leaves the room he was watching, and is charged by Marco to deliver the message to Rome. Giovanni tails him by the rooftops and once he arrived in a quiet place, he attempts to assassinate him from above which fails, leading him to enter in combat against him. After a brutal fight, Giovanni manages to take the advantage. On top, and holding his Hidden Blade under the man's chin, he threatens to kill the messenger if he does not reveal his masters' plot. The man refuses, preferring to keep his secrets until death. He unexpectedly grabs onto Giovanni's wrist with both hands and drives the weapon into his own throat. Giovanni curses the messenger as a fool and takes the letter he was carrying. He then brings it to Lorenzo, but the letter is encrypted, and Uberto Alberti suggests Giovanni to take some rest while he gives it to be decoded by Father Maffei. Once the letter is decoded, Uberto tells Maffei to keep quiet about the success of the letter's decoding, and sends him to bring Giovanni and Lorenzo. It is night in Florence; Giovanni kisses tenderly his wife Maria before leaving his home, under the peeping of their son Ezio (which they know). Ezio asks him what a "banker" is doing so late at night out of his home. Giovanni replies with it being a "business call". Ezio insists that he wants to go with him, but Giovanni refuses as he affirms he is already helping him "more than he knows". Uberto pretends they weren't able to decode the letter, his tone blaming Maffei, and suggests to deliver an exact copy of the letter in order to find the leaders of the conspiracy. Giovanni accepts the mission as he knows where it must be delivered. Having been told by Lorenzo to find the conspirators and to show no mercy, Giovanni then leaves Florence for Rome.

Once he arrived in Rome, Giovanni gives the letter to a man. Then, it travels from hand to hand until arriving into its final destination: in the hands of Rodrigo Borgia. Rodrigo brings the message to Pope Sixtus IV at the Vatican and tries to persuade Sixtus to give military support for a scheme to remove Lorenzo de Medici. While not agreeing at first, he eventually accepts. Satisfied, Rodrigo leaves him and walks in the streets of Rome while being followed by Giovanni. He eventually notices his presence and manages to draw him into a church. Rodrigo proposes him to join his side, but Giovanni refuses. Rodrigo then leaves him to his men. Giovanni wins the intense combat where he loses his Hidden Blade, but he eventually gets hit by a throwing knife from Rodrigo which injures him badly. He is able to escape the attack. Back in Florence, his wife treats his wound. She notes that the blade almost reached his heart. Giovanni is worried: he fears that the murder of Sforza was just the beginning of a conspiracy that will strike Florence. Federico, the eldest son suddenly warns his parents of the arrival of Father Maffei, with armed guards. Giovanni prefers to leave discreetly and tells his son to buy him some time. He lastly adds to Federico that as the oldest, it is his responsibility to protect the family in his absence. Federico is clearly disconcerted that the lives of his mother and siblings are on his shoulders, but accepts this. He goes down to answer the door. Giovanni leaves the house by the chamber's secret passage. While walking around the dark streets of Florence, he sees his son Ezio flirting with a girl. He smiles with fondness at the sight, and manages to disappear before his son could see him.

<blockquote>{{quote|My dear sons, dark skies are rising over Florence and time is running low. The enemy is closer than I thought. Now, the final battle is about to unfold. ===Assassin's Creed II===

Giovanni Auditore is first seen in Assassin's Creed II at Ezio's birth sequence in the Animus (1.0), in which he holds Ezio in his arms and remarks that he is a born fighter. After Desmond enters the Animus 2.0, Giovanni is seen once again at the Auditore's house, in which he says he is proud that Ezio reminds him of himself when he was younger. Giovanni then gives Ezio two separate quests ("Paperboy" and "Special Delivery"). Soon after completing the quests, city guards take Giovanni and his sons, Federico and Petruccio, to prison, being accused of treason. Ezio soon ventures to his father's cell window and learns that they are being detained in for answers of their imprisonment, but Giovanni instead tasks his son to find the hidden room inside his office (which hides his Assassin equipment) and take everything that he finds. Shortly after, Ezio arrives at where the execution takes place, Uberto Alberti declares Giovanni, Federico and Petruccio guilty of treason, therefore executed, becoming victims of a conspiracy. His execution has driven Ezio into the life of a self-trained Assassin and Maria into silence.

In Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, Ezio eventually goes back for the bodies of his father and brothers. He gives them a proper burial by cremating them and setting them adrift in boats down the river.
Trivia
*Giovanni's ring finger remains intact due to improvements to the "Hidden blade" and changes to the tactics and traditions of the Assassin order made by Altaïr after the events of the first game.
*Giovanni died before telling Ezio (as well as his youngest son, Petruccio and his daughter Claudia) of their assassin heritage which disappointed his brother, Mario. It is believed however, that he began training his eldest son Federico in secret, but couldn't actually get far enough to teach him any intermediate Assassin skills.
*Giovanni's close friendship with the Medicis began when Giovanni saved young Lorenzo's life from drowning.
*Giovanni knew about Ezio's Eagle vision, but it is unknown if he himself possessed this gift.
*While Ezio's Short Blade is next to his sword, Giovanni's Short Blade is kept on his leggings.
*Giovanni is never seen wearing actual Armor.
*Giovanni only ever seemed to carry two throwing knives at once, which is far less than any other Assassin shown using them.
*Giovanni leaves his assassin outfit behind for Ezio to find, however in the short-film 'Assassin's Creed: Lineage', it does not have the 'Eagle's beak' on the hood. It is also missing several other details, most likely simply due to a lack of costume quality in Lineage.

In Assassin's Creed, pickpocketing is an important method of gaining information. It is also the only way to restock Throwing Knives, apart from going to Masyaf and/or going to an Assassin's Bureau. In Assassin's Creed II, it is an optional way to acquire florins and items.

How to Pickpocket
To pickpocket, the player must press the Lock On button. Depending on control settings, the Lock On button will be either L1 (Playstation 3), Left Trigger (Xbox 360), or F (PC default layout). While targeting the victim, move Altaïr a few paces behind them and hold the Free Hand button, which will be either (Playstation 3), B (Xbox 360, or Shift (PC default layout). Once Altaïr is close enough, as long as you are not detected by the victim or a Guard, you will steal from the victim's bag, a successful pickpocket. With Ezio, you simply hold the Steal button while in Low Profile and go near any target with no need to Lock On.

Assassin's Creed
Who to Pickpocket
There are two kinds of people you can pickpocket, always identifiable by a pouch around their waist, on their left side.

Informants
Every so often during your Investigations, you will find a person with a bit of information you could use, be it a map or a letter. They always so conveniently place this bit of information in a pouch around their waist - easy for Altaïr to steal. When you first locate Pickpocketing targets, they will be talking with another person. Position yourself an appropriate distance away (not too close, not too far) and press the Lock On button to begin the pickpocket.

Thugs
The thugs roaming the cities always have knives on hand which Altaïr can use as throwing knives. Each time you pickpocket them, you will receive 5 knives. If you happen to pickpocket as many knives as, or more knives than you can hold, your knife count will be maxed out and you will see the message "You have acquired the maximum number of knives". Note you can only pickpocket thugs after regaining the ability to carry throwing knives. This happens in Memory Block 3 after killing Garnier de Naplouse.

When not to Pickpocket
There are various scenarios in which a pickpocket may fail, leading to a fight:

*The victim stops.
*The victim is facing you.
*The victim is looking behind himself.
*You are too close to the victim and he tells you to be gone.
*A guard is very close.

If you do try any of the above, the victim may notice you and engage you in a fistfight. If this happens, fight and kill your attacker or run.

Achievement
On the Xbox 360 version you can get an achievement by pickpocketing 200 knives:

{|border="1" style="text-align:center" cellpadding="2"
|Pickpocket 200 throwing knives.
|15

Assassin's Creed II
In Assassin's Creed II, Ezio taught by Paola has the ability to steal from any non-friendly NPC (this includes normal civilians, guards, etc.), taking money instead of Throwing Knives. To do this he must use Fast Walk to move through the crowd, and then Ezio uses his empty hand to steal. However, if Ezio lingers too long in the area he will be recognized and attacked, so it is important to move quickly after stealing. Stealing can award the player with anywhere from 3 to 50 florins at a time.

In addition, Ezio can loot unconscious or dead enemies for money. But this takes longer and leaves the player open to attack. Civilians will also scold you. It is possible to get over 100 florins with this method, as well as items such as Throwing Knives, Medicine vials, Poison and Smoke bombs.

However, Pickpocketing quickly becomes useless as the player progresses due to the fact the small amount made isn't enough compared to the prices of items that can be bought as well as the profit you gain by investing in the Auditore Family Villa.

In the first game, you will have your hand out reaching for the pickpocket, leaving you more noticeable. In Assassin's Creed II, this is removed and you can now pickpocket quickly, but people may alert guards around you.

Pickpockets
Like Borgia Messengers, there are random Pickpockets in the cities who are shown on the mini-map with an icon: a pouch with an exclamation mark. Ezio can tackle, grab, attack, or throw a throwing knife at them to obtain their money. They appear to outmatch ordinary Thieves at Free-Running and are hard to catch, or kill. They usually contain about 500 florins at a time. Usually the pickpocket runs toward you, but if you turn in his direction, he will immediately change course and flee. Like the Messengers, they will attempt to dissuade Ezio verbally during the chase and beg for mercy if caught. However, they can also steal as much as 60000+ florins on rare occasions, so it is advised to be careful. They are still subject to Archers' warnings and will chase the pickpocket once deemed under the law.

Trivia
*In Assassin's Creed II, you can pickpocket the money away from Heralds who you just paid off, lowering your notoriety for free. Though, if you are caught, this will raise your notoriety by a little percentage, essentially contradicting your initial purpose. Instead, you could slay the Herald and loot his corpse.
*Ironically, during a chase, pickpockets often shout death threats at Ezio, although they are only good at pickpocketing and running while Ezio is a master assassin.
Ezio finds him standing before a large crowd in a courtyard, protected by a line of guards. The Doctor offers free medical care on the condition that the patients pledge their loyalty to Savanarola. The easiest ways to assassinate him is either by blending with a group to bypass the guards or by simply shooting him with the pistol from amist the crowd. After his death, Paola and La Volpe cam be seen leading a crowd of citizens through the square.
Final Words
Doctor: You have spilled the blood of a healer.

Ezio Auditore: No. I have spilled the blood of a tyrant.

Doctor: To command such power over the body, between this world and the next. It seems, I grew intoxicated.

Ezio Auditore: And now you grow still. La tua morte non sarà inutile (Your death will serve a purpose)... Requiescat in pace (Rest in peace).

Leonardo di ser Piero, better known as Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, botanist and writer in the Italian Renaissance. He is generally considered the most talented person who ever lived.
Biography
Early Life
Born the illegitimate son of a notary, Piero da Vinci, and a peasant woman, Caterina, at Vinci in the region of Florence, Leonardo was educated in the studio of the renowned Florentine painter Verrocchio. Much of his earlier working life was spent in the service of Ludovico il Moro in Milan.
He started painting at the age of 14, and in 1472 enrolled at the Guild of St. Luke, where he received a master degree in Medicine and Botany. After university, his father set up his workshop, where Leonardo would work for most of his life. Many political figures and armies would often call for his help to design various items and buildings. In 1476, he met a young nobleman named Ezio Auditore at Florence, and began a friendship that lasted their whole lives.

He and Ezio met for the first time in the beginning of the game during one of Ezio's errands for his mother. Ezio carries a box of his paintings for him back to Ezio's house and the two became friends quite quickly after this. They don't see each other again until after Giovanni, Federico and Petruccio's execution and Ezio becomes notorious throughout Florence. Ezio showed him one of the codex pages to show how to fix the Hidden Blade, which he does, while joking that Ezio must give up his ring finger so that it may function correctly (which was previously required). Leonardo is then questioned by a city guard and beat up by him until Ezio came and saved him using his new hidden blade. After this, Leonardo and Ezio don't see each other much unless you bring him codex pages to decrypt for you and to upgrade your Hidden Blade by making another one and the Poison Blade for you. A few years later, he meets up with Ezio who helps Leonardo get through the mountains safely from the attacking Templars. Leonardo is then taken to Venice and is escorted to his new home and given a tour of the city with Ezio by Alvise Da Vilandino. Leonardo stays at Venice for the remainder of the game and still does very little except for decrypting codex pages for you. He does not have another role for a while until Ezio asks to use his prototype Flying Machine to break into the Doge's palace in an attempt to save him. At first, it only flies for a short time until Leonardo gets an idea of lighting fires across Venice to lift the machine higher into the air. This works until it is shot down just as Ezio got into palace. A few years later, he saw Ezio once more during the carnival season and built him the Hidden Gun and gave him a mask to wear while out in the city. He appears again in his workshop in Forli with Ezio, Mario and Niccolò Machiavelli as they inspected the Apple of Eden that Ezio took from Rodrigo Borgia. The Apple activated when Leonardo touched it, and it flashed symbols and images on the wall much to Leonardo's astonishment. Shortly afterwards, Mario asked if Leonardo would like to come and stay at the Auditore Family Villa in Monteriggioni. This is the last of his important roles throughout the game except for decrypting codex pages for you. Until The Opening Scene of The Battle Of Forli DLC in which he tells you to keep the apple of eden safe before Mario tells you to take it to Forli!

Legacy
He later worked in Rome, Bologna and Venice and spent his last years in France, at the home awarded him by Francis I. His most famous painting, the Mona Lisa, was taken with him when he retired to France in 1513. He died May 2, 1519. It is unknown how he actually died, as it is presumed he could have died of a blood infection when he was diagnosed with Gout.

Leonardo is renowned primarily as a painter. Two of his works, the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, are the most famous, most reproduced and most parodied portrait and religious painting of all time, their fame approached only by Michelangelo's Creation of Adam. Leonardo's drawing of the Vitruvian Man is also regarded as a cultural icon.
Perhaps fifteen of his paintings survive, the small number due to his constant, and frequently disastrous, experimentation with new techniques, and his chronic procrastination. Nevertheless, these few works, together with his notebooks, which contain drawings, scientific diagrams, and his thoughts on the nature of painting, comprise a contribution to later generations of artists only rivalled by that of his contemporary, Michelangelo.
Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity. He conceptualised a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, the double hull and outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were even feasible during his lifetime, but some of his smaller inventions, such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire, entered the world of manufacturing unheralded. As a scientist, he greatly advanced the state of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics.
Trivia
thumb|left|250px|Leonardo Da Vinci - Genius Inventor
*All of Leonardo's modifications on previously existing assassin gear are designs created by Altaïr. Leonardo just follows the designs detailed in Altaïr's codex, which only he and Giovanni Auditore can decipher and translate. It is probably from these that da Vinci designed some of his other inventions. Perhaps Ezio allowed Leonardo to experiment with the Apple himself, giving birth to some of his other inventions.
*Like other main characters, Leonardo's appearance does not change throughout the 23 years he is shown in the game, from his first encounter to the decoding of the the Codex in the villa in 1499.
*Unless it is a Codex page or something important to the story, such as the design for two hidden blades, the cut-scene is the same when Ezio visits Leonardo each time (even after Leonardo moves to Venice).
* Leonardo's last name isn't actually da Vinci, he was adopted by a prostitute (courtesan), and Vinci being the town he was born in, he took on the name Leonardo da Vinci (meaning Leonardo of Vinci).
* According to the database, Leonardo was most likely homosexual, and his apprentice, a boy he nicknamed Salai ("little Satan"), was likely his lover.
* Ironically, in Dan Brown's book The Da Vinci Code, it is speculated that Leonardo da Vinci was the Grand Master of a secret society known as The Priory of Sion, an organization that was alleged to have Templar connections.
* Also ironically Leonardo would later become a close friend and military engineer for Cesare Borgia, son of Rodrigo Borgia.
*In AC II's first DLC, the Battle of Forlì, Leonardo was resistant to the Piece of Eden's powers, like the Assassins. When the Piece accidentally activates, Leonardo sees rudimentary designs for tanks, similar to his own.

It is interesting to note that Leonardo is left-handed.ACII
