revamp
In Assassin's Creed II
The Treasure Chests appear as shiny boxes, which are present in all Assassin's Creed II cities (usually hidden on balconies or on rooftops). If the player can find them, he or she will receive a certain amount of florins. There are 330 treasure chests spread over the 4 cities and mountains, as well as 2 hidden chests in each secret location.

Chests in cities are protected by either a single guard, or by a team of up to four guards.

Buildings that contain Codex Pages or Chests are referred to as Banks in the Animus Database, and bear a slight resemblance to Giovanni Auditore's office, though much smaller. Rebecca states that although all families own banks, most of these banks are owned by the Pazzi family, and that breaking into them (by silencing the guards) will be worth your time.

Banks will always contain two chests or one Codex page. The amount of money you gain from each of these chests varies greatly, from rewards of 100 to over 1000 florins.

If a treasure icon is lit dimly, this means that the treasure chest is located either above or below your current altitude.

At the Art Merchant in each city, you can buy treasure maps that show the locations of treasure chests within that city.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, treasure chests operate much as they did in Assassin's Creed II, though they not only contain florins, but necklaces and rings as well. These items are required for "shop quests."

Armed Disputes and Battles
Avoiding armed conflict is ideal when looting banks, thus it is recommended to make use of Courtesans, Thieves or Mercenaries in order to distract the guards. Alternately, the player may simply throw coins so as to attract a cover of Civilians.
Additionally, it is possible, in Florence and Tuscany, to incite a small brawl using banks. To do this, the player must come across a Pazzi owned bank (guarded by soldiers dressed in Pazzi red, not Medici yellow), and either attract Medici guards to the Pazzi ones, or attract the Pazzi guards to a Medici patrol (by angering the guards and getting them to follow the player). Just lead them to each other and watch them fight. It is also possible to just shove your way in to prevent fighting for awhile and collect the treasure in one piece. However, when you come out the guards will start chasing and fighting you. It is also possible to run get inside quickly by tacking the guards on your way in. The guards can then be killed by attacking them through the front wall (a glitch) with your sword or hammer.

Trivia
*Investing in the Monteriggioni Well, Mine and Church through the Villa Auditore will grant the player access to two additional chests in each of the three locations.

*There are also two chests in Ezio's room, in the top floor of the villa. These chests, being rare, unfortunately only contain 200-600 florins.
*The amount of florins in each chest increases with every new city the player travels to, probably due to the increasing cost of weapons and armor.
