The Emperor was a privateer ship during the War of the Spanish Succession, captained by Alexander Dolzell up until January 1713.

History
The Emperor was originally a merchant ship. At some point around the War of Spanish Succession, she was refitted to become a warship, carrying privateers of the British crown.

In 1712, foreseeing the end of the war, the crew turned to piracy. In January of the following year, the Emperor captured the Amazon Galley, a merchant ship, but was in turn attacked by Edward Thatch, still loyal to the crown. During the fight, Dolzell disappeared in the sea and the majority of the crew was killed. The ship's lookout, Edward Kenway was then recruited into Thatch's crew.

Crew
*Alexander Dolzell - Captain (unknown – 1713)
*Trafford - First mate (unknown – 1713)

Alonzo Batilla was a French pirate, active in the Caribbean, during the early 18th century. Following his career as a pirate, Alonzo befriended the infamous Frenchman Olivier Levasseur, and after Levasseur's execution by the British, searched for his treasure.

Biography
Early life and meeting La Buse
Born in France, Alonzo was a wanted criminal who joined the French Navy in 1711 in the port of Toulon under an alias in order to escape the laws of his country. Serving in the fleet of Admiral Jacques Cassard, Batilla participated in the Battles of Montserrat and Antigua in the Caribbean. In battle, he distinguished himself by being an expert shooter and the first to jump on the enemy ships, killing half a dozen English sailors by himself. Not wanting to come back to France, Batilla deserted after the war and recruited four other sailors in order to plunder merchant ships in the Caribbean Sea.

In June 1716, he boldly attacked the better-equipped merchant schooner captained by the Templar Barnes. Alonzo's crew was killed and Batilla himself was put in irons in order to be hanged later as an example for the other pirates. In the hold of the schooner in which he was locked, Batilla discovered another prisoner, an escaped slave named Jumao. While sailing near Devil's Rock, the schooner was attacked by the French pirate, Olivier Levasseur, also known as La Buse. Levasseur recruited Alonzo and Jumao, and gave Alonzo the command of a gunboat called The Serpent and told him to meet him at the Scorpion Reef.

Life as a pirate
After battling a British gunboat, Alonzo went to Scorpion Reef to meet Levasseur. There, Alonzo asked him for a bigger ship, feeling disappointed with his own vessel's size. Levasseur agreed and led Alonzo past a British brig, and told him to sink two gunboats and take the schooner, The Wanderer as his own.

Feeling happy with a new ship, Alonzo decided to attack the brig he avoided earlier, though Levasseur advised him not too, warning him about Benjamin Hornigold's rules, but Alonzo ignored him and attacked the brig regardless. After sinking the brig, Levasseur informed Alonzo that the path he chose would lead to pain and misery, and that it was the end of their partnership. Alonzo argued that they both should sail together, and claim the greatest prizes. Levasseur refused, however, and left afterward. A discouraged Alonzo began to chase after Levasseur and soon caught up with him. There, Levasseur told Alonzo to meet him near the west of Hispaniola, to test Alonzo's wisdom. Soon, Jumao insisted Alonzo to recruit new crew for the journey, and to get experience in sailing.

Working with Samuel Bellamy
With an improved ship and crew, Alonzo met Levasseur in Bahia de Guadiana. After a brief conversation about Hornigold and the Royal Navy, they both sailed to the pirate cove. Near the hideout, the pirates discovered three Royal Navy brigs, which Alonzo sunk one by one. After the battle and avoiding naval mines, Alonzo soon met up with Levasseur in the pirate hideout.

Alonzo and Levasseur went to the pirate assembly, and found Ben Hornigold and Samuel Bellamy arguing about Hornigold's code. They decided to put it out in a vote, and the pirates voted for Bellamy as captain, deposing Hornigold. Bellamy then asked for a pirate who could "get rid" of Hornigold, and Alonzo took this opportunity, and stealthily dropped him off at an island. Hornigold told Alonzo that he was smarter than the other pirates, and he should leave the job if he'd get the chance to. Alonzo declined, on the reason for earning a fortune. Alonzo asked Hornigold what he would do, since he had no one to call a "friend" now, and Hornigold simply replied that he had friends in Nassau, and invited Alonzo to come there one day.

In the night, Levasseur informed Alonzo that Bellamy is making new plots to earn money. Alonzo claimed that he deserves a share, and rushes to meet Bellamy, countering winds and avoiding enemy schooners. Alonzo met Bellamy in his frigate, and Bellamy agreed to give Alonzo his share. Bellamy told Alonzo about a ship in the north which carries "special" cargo, which Alonzo thinks to be gold or precious stones, but Bellamy tells him that it is actually slaves. Alonzo was disappointed, telling Bellamy that there is no profit in human trade. But Bellamy insisted Alonzo to attack the Slave ship. Alonzo agreed to attack the ship, but Jumao warned him not to sink it, so Alonzo shot it's weak points to incapacitate it. However, the slaves in the ship began to jump out, and under the advice of Jumao, Alonzo saved them. Alonzo then met up with Bellamy, and let go of the freed slaves. Under the advice of Bellamy, Alonzo hired Aaminah, a female slave into his crew. Bellamy also told Alonzo that pirates are not mere outlaws, they also fight for freedom.

*Alonzo is a Spanish variant of the Old German Alphonse, the meaning of which is either interpreted as "noble and ready" or "ready for battle".

The Jackdaw was a brig captained by the pirate and later Assassin Edward Kenway, which he obtained with the help of Adéwalé, during his time in the West Indies.

Before Kenway's captaincy, El Dorado, as it was then known, was part of the Spanish Treasure Fleet. Upon securing her, Kenway renamed the vessel Jackdaw, after the bird of the same name.

History
Procurement
After an imprisoned Edward Kenway was placed on a ship in the fleet bound for Spain, he met his future quartermaster, Adéwalé, who helped free Edward from their leg irons and assisted him in incapacitating the guards until the pirate retrieved his equipment.

Following this, the pair secured a crew by freeing other prisoners from their Spanish captors, before they set their sights on a brig in the fleet, El Dorado. Subsequently, Kenway used the pirates he freed to help sail the ship from the fleet under the cover of a severe storm, successfully escaping the natural disaster while the remaining ships were sunk. Kenway then renamed the ship the Jackdaw, after a small, swift bird from his home of Wales.

Piracy
{{Dialogue|Edward|It's a shaky feeling, sailing around with this much stolen cargo.|Hornigold|Get used to it. The Jackdaws first major act of piracy took place off of the coast of Nassau in 1715, when Captain Benjamin Hornigold showed Kenway how to successfully take a ship. It was after this voyage that the brig was given its very own black flag.

Soon after, it was used to transport Kenway to Cat Island to plunder a plantation, and eventually followed a Spanish Man O' War, El Arca del Maestro, through the Bahamas to its moorings at Great Inagua. Kenway then infiltrated the island, killed the French Templar Julien du Casse and took both the ship and the island. It was here that he would establish his own base of operations, and the Jackdaw could often be found moored at the docks in the cove.

The Jackdaw traveled across the West Indies Sea to the ancient city of Tulum, home of the Assassins, where the crew members were soon taken prisoner by Laurens Prins; Kenway soon freed his crew and they returned to sea. Shortly after, the ship took its first fort, located at Punta Guarico, and made sail for Kingston. After Kenway killed Prins, the ship returned to Nassau.

However, the pirate city was suffering from disease, prompting Kenway to outfit the Jackdaw with a diving bell in search for medicines. When he came up empty, he followed his fellow pirate Edward Thatch to Charles-Towne to secure medicines before returning again to Nassau.

After the city was blockaded by the British, the Jackdaw, along with Charles Vane's ship, the Ranger, was able to escape and flee to Great Inagua. There, Kenway made plans to find Thatch again and set sail for Ocracoke. When the pirates were ambushed by the Royal Navy, the Jackdaw was the only vessel to escape.

The Jackdaw and the Ranger met up again off the coast of Cuba, in pursuit of a ship that would lead them to Bartholomew Roberts. However, Vane's associate Jack Rackham had engineered a mutiny, taking the Jackdaw and leaving Kenway and Vane marooned on Isla Providencia.

Kenway managed to make his way back to Great Inagua, where Adéwalé and Mary Read had taken the Jackdaw from Rackham. Kenway soon set sail again, returning to Kingston before continuing on to Príncipe, where Roberts had gone into hiding. After freeing Roberts, he followed him to the coast of Mexico, where the two infiltrated and battled a Portuguese fleet before sailing for the Observatory, Kenway's ultimate goal.

Along the way, the Jackdaw chased Hornigold's ship through a fog bank before Kenway assassinated his former friend, clearing the way to the Observatory. When Roberts betrayed Edward deep inside the complex, Adéwalé and the crew quickly fled. It would be almost a year before Kenway would be reunited with his ship in Kingston, although Adéwalé chose not to join his captain, revealing his intentions to join the Assassin Order and suggesting that Edward do the same.

Alliance with the Assassins
Shortly thereafter, the vessel returned again to Tulum, where Edward allied himself with the Assassins and received three targets: Woodes Rogers, Torres, and Roberts. The Jackdaws flag was replaced with one bearing an Assassin insignia, and Anne Bonny took Adéwalé's place as quartermaster.

Edward sailed for Kingston to eliminate Rogers. In turn, the Templar revealed Roberts' location in Principe, where the Jackdaw sailed next. In a tremendous battle between the Jackdaw, Roberts' ship Royal Fortune, and a Spanish fleet, Kenway managed to kill Roberts and retrieve the Observatory's Crystal Skull.

The ship then carried her captain back to Havana, where Edward discovered Torres was already on his way to the Observatory. He soon followed in hot pursuit, making his way through the jungle and the complex, before finally killing the Grand Master. The Jackdaw then made one final trip back to Great Inagua, where Edward finally retired from piracy, deciding to care for his newly discovered daughter Jennifer Scott. In 1722, he sailed his ship one last time across the ocean to London, where he would live for the rest of his life.

It is unknown what happened to the Jackdaw in the intervening years, but at some point prior to 1735, the brig returned to the West Indies and sank off the coast of Hispaniola due to unknown circumstances. Its figurehead was later recovered from the wreckage by Adéwalé.

Schematics
The Jackdaw was 60 meters long from her stern to the tip of her bowsprit, 48.5 meters high, had a width of 11.9 meters, and also had twenty-six sails. Accompanying this, the Jackdaw was armed with forty-six Broadside, four Cannons and two swivel guns. Further, she could hold 160 fire barrels, deployed four at a time, 25 volleys of heated shot and 20 mortar rounds, and was equipped with an iron-plated naval ram. Besides her weaponry, she could also hold a maximum of 2,000 pieces of each type of cargo; sugar, rum, cloth, wood and metal.

At her strongest, the Jackdaw possessed a sizable amount of iron-plating reinforcement across her hull, which provided ample protection in combat against a number of Men O' War. The brig was able to disable and destroy any type of ship, given the proper strategy in battle.

She was also equipped with a diving bell for exploration of various underwater wrecks, as well as a whaling rowboat and harpoons, which allowed Edward to hunt for local sea life. Her masts featured pedal-activated lifts and hooks to allow for both ascension and descent. The Jackdaw also had cleverly placed swinging ropes secured both on deck and in the cross-masts, which were used by the crew to swing from one ship to another when boarding.

Notable conflicts
While the Jackdaw did not participate in any major historical battles of the era, she still had more than her fair share of legendary combat. Notable skirmishes, such as the battle which took Blackbeard's life near Ocracoke, the conflict with Hornigold's ship, the Benjamin, and the later conflict off the coast of Príncipe – in which Bartholomew Roberts was killed – were fought on the Jackdaws decks.

The ship was a formidable raider in the Caribbean, as it single-handedly outgunned and destroyed all of the naval forts around the Caribbean over time, and took down many ships, from gunboats to Men O' War, including the five legendary ships that roamed the Caribbean Sea: El Impoluto, the twin ships HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign, La Dama Negra, and HMS Prince.

Crew
*Edward Kenway - Captain (30 July 1715 – 23 November 1718, 1719 – 1723)
*Jack Rackham - Captain (23 November 1718 – c. 23 January 1719)
*Adéwalé - Quartermaster (1715 – 1721)
*Anne Bonny - Quartermaster (1721 – 1722)
*Hanley - Quartermaster (1722)
*Birtwistle - Coxswain (c. 1722)
*Numerous unnamed pirates

Trivia
*When the Jackdaw was owned by the Spanish Navy, it was the only military-class ship with swivel guns, fire barrels and also to have cannons in the main deck. Jackdaw and the Ranger were the only brigs without rams.
*Like many other references to the Assassin Order involving avians, a Western Jackdaw is a small, black bird belonging to the crow family. Coincidentally, the color of the bird's feathers themselves could also be a reference to piracy often being symbolized by black.
**Jackdaw are prominently featured in both Greek and Welsh folklore as creatures of extreme vanity and thieves of anything shiny, as well as acting as omens of death and calamity. In The Vain Jackdaw, a jackdaw sought to become king of the birds by adorning himself with the feathers of other birds. Such tales are great illustrations of the motivations attributed to pirates like Edward Kenway.
*Darby McDevitt mentioned the Jackdaws name was also a reference to the fable of the Eagle and the Jackdaw, which is recited during the "Delirium" memory.
*The former name of the ship, El Dorado, is Spanish for "the gilded one; the golden".
*In the captain's cabin, there was a statue of a vulture near the Jackdaws rear window. There was also a bust of an unknown man in the right corner. Other cabin decorations included several flags, lanterns, a desk, and some chairs, along with a miniature model of the ship and a tailor's mannequin.
*The Jackdaw initially flew a plain black flag, then a generic pirate flag for most of its time under Kenway's command. After Edward defended the Assassins from a Spanish raid, the flag changed to include the Assassin insignia around the skull.
*At elite level, most of the Jackdaws equipment, including the swivel guns, broadside, and mortars, were plated gold. The elite hull upgrade also included liberal gold and iron plating on the ship's hull and deck.
*After defeating all legendary ships, the Jackdaw gained a charge attack, allowing her to inflict greater damage on an enemy ship.
*The Jackdaws crew was composed of mixed races and ethnicities. Sailors that joined Edward hailed from a variety of places, including Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany, and several countries in Africa, among others.
*The Jackdaws sail positioning did not extend horizontally as far as the other brigs encountered in the West Indies, resembling the positioning of a frigate more closely.

Alonzo was born in France, and joined the French Navy and served in the Caribbean. In June 1716, he along with Jumao were locked in the hold of a Spanish merchant schooner captained by Barnes. While sailing near Devil's Rock, the schooner was attacked by the French pirate, Olivier Levasseur, also known as La Buse. La Buse recruited Alonzo and Jumao, and gave Alonzo the command of a gunboat called The Serpent and told him to meet him at the Scorpion Reef.

Life as a pirate
After battling a British gunboat and learing how to sail, Alonzo went to Scorpion Reef to meet La Buse. There, Alonzo asked La Buse for a bigger ship, feeling disappointed with his ship's size. La Buse agreed and led Alonzo past a British brig, and told him to sink two gunboats and take the schooner, The Wanderer as his own.

Feeling happy with a new ship, Alonzo decided to attack the brig he avoided earlier, though La Buse advised him not too, warning him about Benjamin Hornigold's rules. Alonzo ignored him and attacked the brig. After sinking the brig, La Buse informed Alonzo that the path he chose will lead to pain and misery, and that it is the time where they both will seperate. Alonzo argued that they both should sail together, and claim the greatest prizes. La Buse tells that it's every pirates dream, and starts to sail away.

Trivia
*Alonzo is a Spanish variant of the Old German Alphonse, the meaning of which is either interpreted as "noble and ready" or "ready for battle".

Trivia
*Alonzo is a Spanish variant of the Old German Alphonse, the meaning of which is either interpreted as "noble and ready" or "ready for battle".
Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence, typically at sea, and can also range to naval warfare and coastal raids. Acts of piracy can be committed on land, in the air, or in other bodies of water including shores.

An individual who participates in piracy is known as a pirate, though they should not be confused with privateers; state-sponsored sailors allowed to steal from the ships of enemy countries.

In the early 18th century, a large number of pirates, privateers and other sailors congregated in the recently captured settlement of Nassau and together formed the Brethren of the Coast, in order to better represent and coordinate their interests.

History
Pirates sailed the Mediterranean Sea during the Middle Ages, including a group of Cypriot pirates who allied with the Templars controlling Cyprus. During Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's trip to Cyprus in 1191, a pirate named Pasha sailed him to Kyrenia. However, the majority of the pirates there attempted to capture him for the Templars. When Altaïr returned to Limassol, he assassinated their captain.

Around 1321, the Templars in Italy hired pirates to steal Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's Codex from Domenico Auditore, murdering his wife in the process.

In 1511, Al-Scarab was an honorable pirate who sought revenge on Ezio Auditore da Firenze for humiliating him, but after they worked together to fight off some watchmen, he returned the favor by sailing him to Acre. Soon after, the Ottoman Assassins allied with the Barbary pirates Hayreddin Barbarossa to undermine Spanish control of Algiers. Also active at the time were the Templar pirate, Eveline Guerra, and Blaise Legros, whose only loyalty was to money, transporting Templars and Assassins wherever they desired so long as they could pay him.

The Golden Age of Piracy was considered to have taken place from the late 17th century to the early 18th century in the Caribbean Sea. During this time, William Kidd was a Scottish privateer active in the area. He was captured and executed on charges of piracy in 1701, but in truth, the accusations were made by Templars hoping he would reveal the location of the Shard of Eden he had found.

Alonzo Batilla and Olivier Levasseur were French privateers-turned-pirates operating in the Caribbean during the early 18th century. Levasseur, better known as La Buse would later be executed by the British.

Edward Kenway was a British privateer-turned-pirate active in the Caribbean, who joined the Assassins later into his life. In the pirate republic of Nassau, Edward interacted with many pirates such as Stede Bonnet, Mary Read, Edward Thatch, Benjamin Hornigold, Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, Adéwalé and Anne Bonny, with many of them eventually banding together to form a coalition they referred to as "the Brethren of the Coast". At one point in in 1715, almost five hundred men had joined the Brethren. However their capital, Nassau, fell to the British in 1718, quickly discouraging many members from staying. Most of the captains who had formed the group died over the years, leading to the Brethren's dissolution by 1722.

There were also pirates who did not join the brethren, like Bartholomew Roberts, Howell Davis, Abel Bramah, Jing Lang, Samuel Bellamy and Alexander Dolzell.
