Girolamo Savonarola (21 September 1452 - 23 May 1498) is a character in Assassin's Creed II, appearing in the second part of its DLC, the Bonfire of the Vanities.

Biography
Girolamo Savonarola was an Italian Dominican friar who became a hermit to the other monks and lived in the city of Florence. He had strongly resisted the Renaissance, preferring the Medieval Times.

Savonarola caught wind of the existence of the Apple of Eden when he passed by the Orsi Brothers, who were conversing with Caterina Sforza. He eavesdropped the conversation, and kept a close eye on the Orsis.

Right after Ezio Auditore da Firenze killed Checco Orsi and was stabbed by him, Ezio fell to the ground due to the pain of his wound. Right before he lost consciousness, Savonarola appeared and took the Piece of Eden from him.

After the death of Lorenzo de' Medici, Savonarola used the Apple he had stolen to take over Florence. After uniting the city under his banner, he started to destroy all Renaissance art pieces, due to him wanting to go back to the Medieval times. The Assassins started resisting Savonarola's rule, with Assassins Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Niccolò Machiavelli being the ones to fight against the priest and thwart his plans. Eventually, Savonarola died by the Assassins' hands and Florence was freed from the monk's grasp.

Trivia
*It could be possible that Savonarola somehow knew of the Templars and the Orsi brothers' plan to steal the Apple and he cleverly scavenged the Piece of Eden when both factions were at their weakest.
*In 1488 Savonarola was missing his little finger, although the reason for this was unknown.
*He is around the same age as Leonardo Da Vinci.
*When you start the second mission in battle of forli, you can briefly see a person who greatly resembles Savonarola as Machiavelli and Caterina walk through the gate.

Giovanni Mocenigo (1409-1485) was Doge of Venice from 1478 to 1485. During his life, he had fought with Mohammed II and Ercole I d'Este, the duke of Ferrara.

Description
Doge Mocenigo was close with Carlo Grimaldi, who was in secret a Templar. At a Templar meeting, Carlo received the order to kill Mocenigo from Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Templars.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze overheard this meeting and broke into the Palazzo Ducale using Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine. However, Grimaldi had already poisoned Mocenigo. As Mocenigo began to cough up blood, Ezio followed Carlo into the courtyard of the palace and killed him, avenging the Doge. Miraculously, the Doge managed to stumble into the courtyard. Delirious now, he yelled that Ezio killed him before finally dying at the top of the stairs.
Glyphs are encrypted messages that can appear in various locations in Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II, created by Subject 16. In the first game they appear shortly before Desmond falls asleep and near the end. You can also find them in the Animus 2.0.<br />
<br />
Just before Subject 16 died, he left messages in the original Animus to tell anybody who finds it an important secret. The only way somebody would find these is to solve the puzzles relevant to the information given. There are a total of 20 glyphs found in Italy. Each provides, whether through Subject 16 or the coded messages hidden in some files, snippets of backstory of the Templars and Pieces of Eden.
!Truth File 1 - In The Beginning
|In the second zone of Florence, once you get the hidden blade repaired by a rather well known artist, the next memory marker will be at the door of Paola's house. It is on a wall on the roof of that house.
|Solve the puzzle by choosing the paintings with an apple in them. They are pictures 3, 5, 6, 7, and 9.
|Subject 16 explains that everything he's been told is a lie and has split 20 codes in the animus, and along the way, the truth would be revealed.
|-
!Truth File 2 - Sixty-Four Squares
|In the second zone of Florence, toward the North Eastern corner, is a big buliding, known as Ospedale Degli Innocenti, shaped like a box. It is colored grey on the map. Next to it are two doctors and a blacksmith. It is on a wall on the roof.
|Solve the puzzle more easily by rotating the circle puzzle pieces from towards the middle, then going to the biggest, and finally the smallest.
|-
!Truth File 3 - Descendants
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a wall
|Solve the puzzle by highlighting the circular object in each photo. The first one is right in front of the two men sitting down before the table. The second one is right below the left hand of the man hanging upside down. The last one is directly on the man in the middle's right elbow.
|
*Pigpen cipher on the photo of Roosevelt reads "The Masons brought it across the sea. George Washington passed it on". George Washington was a member of the Masons, along with a number of the founding fathers,&nbsp;who supposedly were the Knights Templar reborn.
*Morse code on the photo of Houdini reads "They hit him in the stomach". This is reference to the fact that after he was hit in the stomach for a trick, he died of a&nbsp;ruptured appendix.
*Morse code on the photo of Gandhi reads "The bullet hit him in the chest".
|-
!Truth File 4 - Infinite Knowledge
|While hanging from the roof, it’s on a wall at Villa Auditore
|Solve the puzzle by taking the hints literally
|
*Hexadecimal cipher on the photo at Brest reads "Antikythera Mechanism, much older than 150 B.C.E."
*Caesar number cipher on the photo at the US civil war reads "Ancient city, Rajastan, Inda, irradiated by PoE".
*Binary code reads "Sumerian. Me 23.".
|-
!Truth File 5 - Instruments of Power
|In the bottom dwellings of Santa Maria Assunta, it’s on a wall near pillars
|Solve the puzzle by choosing the paintings with a sword in them,&nbsp;then, in the next set, all those with a staff
|-
!Truth File 6 - Brothers
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a wall at Torri Dei Salvucci
|Solve the puzzle more easily by rotating the circle puzzle pieces from smallest circle to the largest, while keeping an eye on the two outer layers that will connect
|
*Morse code text reads "Templar texts adapted by Mr. Smith"
*The Templar emblem is revealed as the Mark of Cain, showing Cain to be the first Templar.
|-
!Truth File 7 - Keep On Seeking, And You Shall Find
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a wall at Torre Del Diavolo
|Solve the puzzle by choosing the paintings with red in them, this can be done in any order
|-
!Truth File 8 - Martyrs
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a wall at San Lorenzo
|Solve the puzzle by finding the Pieces of Eden (success is indicated with a sound). Then putting the flame over Joan on the world map. And finally, by moving Rasputin’s photo to the top of Czar Nicholas II’s photo
|
*Binary code on photo of Czar Nicholas II reads "17th July 1918". This date was the day the Czar and his family were killed off.
* Binary code on painting of Joan of Arc reads "30th May 1431" The day&nbsp;Joan was burned at the stake.
*It is revealed that the Templars stole&nbsp;the Sword&nbsp;from Joan of Arc.
*&nbsp;Rasputin stole the Staff from&nbsp;Czar Nicholas II. Without the staff to control the populace, the Russian Revolution occured.
|-
!Truth File 9 - Hat-Trick
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a wall at Mercato Vecchio
|Solve the puzzle by taking the hints literally, with the last one being 6=1
|According to the letter, JFK (John F. Kennedy) was planning on giving the people of the US the right to vote to something, so the Templars decided to kill him and take Piece of Eden #3 at the same time. Oswald and an unnamed co conspirator carried it out, and the grassy knoll gunman was a 'phantom' created by a PoE to distract people from the co conspirator. Presumably Jack Ruby, Oswald's killer, was an assassin or Templar ordered to take him out to prevent him talking.
|-
!Truth File 10 - Apollo
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a wall at Monte Oliveto Maggiore
|Solve the puzzle by not looking for the Eagle Apollo lander on the moon. When found, it’s best to rotate the layers of the puzzle from the inside out until they all align, but note that inner layer 1 rotates on its own despite being connected to layer 4 as well in one instance, same story for layer 6. Lastly, the Piece of Eden is on the Moon’s surface.
|
*Pigpen cipher reads "Johnson was one of them. The bees drone too. Follow the money."
*The flag of the USA contains the Abstergo logo.
*The white flag contains the Templar emblem.
*The title of the Moon photo reads "Apollo 11 photograph released to public". Underneath it reads "Original unreleased negative". This means that the original copy was when the US flag was Abstergo and that the white flag is a Templar flag.
|-
!Truth File 11 - The Inventor
|While standing on the floor, it’s under a stone arch at Antico Teatro Romano
|Solve the puzzle by highlighting the light bulbs. After that highlight the middle of the photo above the doorway. Then highlight Nikola Tesla’s lap.
|
*The picture of Wardenslyffe contains three quotes of Tesla's
*Caesar cipher in the picture of Tesla's lab reads "He used it to develop a bottomless source of energy. Telefunken Wireless Station".
|-
!Truth File 12 - Titans of Industry
|While standing on a roof (not the church tower itself), look down to the side of a wall attached to where you stand at Abbazia Di San Mercuriale
|Solve the puzzle by aligning red 4 with gray 1 on the wheel and entering the related code. Then turn off all the lights on the globe. Select the orb in the middle of the next photo. Solve the last puzzle by lining up the wheel like this: 1=II. 2=I.
|
*Morse code reads "They used it to make Tesla go insane. The organization took his research. Alien property, custodian office".
|-
!Truth File 13 - "I am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds"
|Climb the base lookout tower until you see it on part of the stone walling on Avamposto Veneziano
|Solve the puzzle by lining up the wheel like this: 5=circle, square, square. 2=circle 9=triangle. Next press the red button so-to-speak. The last part you’ll find near the left-middle bottom of the letter
|-
!Truth File 14 - Bloodlines
|Swim under the Ponte Di Rialto bridge, where you’ll find it on a wall near the edge of the water
|Solve the puzzle by choosing the paintings with Gods in them: Jupiter, Zeus, Cupid, the Swan and Europa
|-
!Truth File 15 - Guardians
|While standing on a roof, it’s on a higher up wall at Gilda Dei Ladri Di Venezia, right above a wooden hatch
|Solve the puzzle by working from the inside out, and realizing that these layers are connected: 1 to 6, the middle two, and 4 to 5
|-
!Truth File 16 - The Cavalry
|Climb up the Campanile Di San Marco bell tower, until you can climb in, at which point you’ll find it on the floor
|Solve the puzzle by selecting Tunguska.&nbsp; It's OK if you select others first but Tunguska solves the puzzle.&nbsp;Give the staff to the picture.
|-
!Truth File 17 - The Bunker
|Climb up the Torre Dell ‘Orologio and on the floor you’ll find it
|Solve the puzzle by lining up the wheel like this: 7=broken square symbol, 9=six-sided hourglass symbol, 1=square with little square inside of it. Then the attic on the top-right will reveal an Assassin symbol for you to ID
|Cipher reads "His double was killed in his bunker". Near the bottom left of the picture, it'll read RIP in the magnified area
|-
!Truth File 18 - Synapses
|While standing on a roof (not the highest roof), it’s on a wall at San Pietro Di Castello
|Solve the puzzle by aligning the wheel like this: 6=YYY, 0=the equivalent of 17 (in Summarian) &lt;YYY,YYY,Y, 3= (31) or &lt;&lt;&lt;Y.
|-
!Truth File 19 - The Fourth Day
|It’s on the back of one of the rounded-top walls that stick out on the side-parts of Scuola Grande Di San Marco
|Solve the puzzle by choosing the paintings with a sun in them. I’m not sure if this has to be done in any specific order, if so it’s: Aztec Calendar, Easter Gate, Sistine Chapel Ceiling, Nazca Textile and Book of the Dead. Then find the part of the sun photo that has the most radiation and ID it
|-
!Truth File 20 - The Origin of the Species
|From the roof with a fire near it, it’s there when you look down to a wall on the side of San Giacomo Di Rialto
|Solve the puzzle by working from the inside out, and realizing that these layers are not connected: 2nd inner layer, 5th outer layer. Then ID the sun. Next you can line up the code wheel any way you want to complete the puzzle. Any symbols you choose will complete the code. In the final puzzle, move the cursor over the bones to change the skeleton from an ape into a human
|}

Notes
The puzzles are not necessarily in the same places here. For example, when we found the glyph at the Mercato Vecchio, we were on Truth File 17, (The Calvary), not Truth File 9, (Hat Trick). But this is helpful when trying to find locations.

Despite what order you find the glyphs in, the story behind it of Subject 16 and the puzzles will be shown in its correct order, so even if you found Glyph 20 first, the puzzle will relate to Glyph 1. If you, for example, then found Glyph 10, it will then relate to Glyph 2, and so on. Also if you are unsure as to where to find the Glyphs, go to the Animus menu page, then database, and finally locations. Specific location pictures have a Glyph symbol in the top left corner. It will tell you where you can find them (and the Assassin's Tombs) in each area.

If you find a glyph it will automatically become the first glyph, and no matter where you find them, they will go up from 1-20 in order.

List of Glyphs
This list of glyphs is in no particular order:

*Japanese Torii Gate
He's long abandoned us.
One of the nine people Al Mualim wants Altair to assassinate, Talal is a slave trader in the city of Jerusalem, located within its rich district.

Description
Talal is one of Jerusalem's most feared criminals. He operates a large slave ring, which is for some reason easily ignored by the city's guards, however it can be reasoned that, as Talal is in secret a Templar and thus allied with Majd Addin, who in turn would order the guards to ignore Talal's works. He captures the mad and the diseased, and then sells them off as slaves, transporting them to Acre (presumably for Garnier de Naplouse to deal with them). He also has a large band of henchmen thugs who follow his commands.

Talal is quick-witted, agile, and an expert marksman. He can outrun most men with ease, and is very proud of his own acrobatic prowess. He also finds humor in many things, and is especially fond of taunting his enemies before killing them.

Death
Talal is publicly assassinated at the hands of Altair, after the assassin tracked his movements within the rich district before discovering him within his slave warehouse. He taunted Altair, placing his men all around him. He then ordered Altair killed. However, he was able to kill the guards and chase Talal. Altair killed him during an agile chase through the streets of Jerusalem. As Talal prepared an arrow for his bow Altair quickly closes the gap between himself and his intended political target. As the white robed assassin rapidly approached him Talal made a hasty run for it but was quickly stopped due to the Hidden Blade being forcefully introduced to one of his vital spots. With his dying words, Talal remarked the people he was selling were the most unfortunate people in Jerusalem, and that where they were being sent, they would be better off. Talal's death marks the third recent public figure assassination and the first within Jerusalem.

Final Words
Altaïr: You've nowhere to run now. Share your secrets with me.

Talal: My part is played. The Brotherhood is not so weak that my death will stop its work.

Altaïr: What Brotherhood?

Talal: Al Mualim is not the only one with designs upon the Holy Land. And that's all you'll have from me!

Altaïr: Then we are finished. Beg forgiveness from your god!

Talal: He's long abandoned us. Long abandoned the men and women I took into my arms.

Altaïr: What do you mean?

Talal: Beggars, whores, addicts, lepers: do they strike you as proper slaves? Unfit for even the most menial tasks? No, I took them not to sell, but to save, and yet you'd kill us all...for no other reason than it was asked of you.

Altaïr: No! You profit from the war, from lives lost and broken.

Talal: Yes, you would think that, ignorant as you are. Wall off your mind: they say it's what your kind do best. Do you see the irony in all this? No, not yet, it seems, but you will...

Trivia
*Talal was also featured in the E3 2007 gameplay trailer, where Altair infiltrated the slave trader's den, before chasing and killing Talal.

*If he runs on the streets, unlike other assassinations targets, the Vigilantes will stop him.

Silvio Barbarigo (1435-1485) was the cousin of Marco Barbarigo and a Templar. He is a state inquisitor of Venice but is angry that his relatives are far more powerful than him. He is somehow related to Emilio Barbarigo. His father was killed by Silvio's uncle when he was young. He became an advisor to his wealthy uncle, and uncovered a plot by the Soranzo family against his uncle. To prevent this, Silvio invited the family to an Easter celebration and toasted the family on the balcony. Unknown to everyone else, this was a signal for archers hidden behind the courtyard windows to fire on the family and kill them. Ten years later, he had his uncle murdered by hired courtesans and convinced everyone he had died in bed. He then took over his uncle's luxurious palazzo.

Silvio wears a hooded red cloak over his head and is found in Venice.&nbsp;

Silvio is first seen&nbsp;at a meeting in Venice with&nbsp;Marco, Dante Moro and Carlo Grimaldi. They plot to kill the Doge of Venice, and Silvio says he can get cantanella to poison the Doge, as it is very hard to trace. He is next seen in Venice at the Carnival, where he cheats in order to stop Ezio from attending Marco's party and killing him. After Marco's death, Silvio hires Dante and various mercenaries to take control of the arsenal, the military quarter of Venice. However, he loses the arsenal to Ezio and Bartolomeo d'Alviano and attempts to flee in a boat bound for Cyprus (which, we later learn, is sailing there to collect a Piece of Eden). Silvio and Dante are both killed while running toward the docks by Ezio.
Final Words
Ezio: What's happened here? Why the boats? I thought you sought the Doge's seat.

Silvio: Just a distraction. We were meant to sail...

Ezio: Sail where?

*In Assassin's Creed: Lineage, Silvio Bargbario is portrayed by Harry Standjofski though his appearance is minor (he is only heard talking with Marco and seen at the end of the film during the Templar meeting).
Francesco de' Pazzi (1444-1478) is the father of Vieri de' Pazzi and one of the Pazzi conspirators. He is the third assassination target of Ezio. He is also secretly a Templar. Apart from that, he was also one of Firenze's wealthiest nobles. He hated the Medici family with a passion.

Assassins Creed 2
He is first seen discussing with Rodrigo Borgia (the leader of the Templars),along with his son and his&nbsp;Uncle Jacopo de' Pazzi, in San Gimignano about the death of the Medici brothers. He is later seen in a chamber underneath the Santa Maria Novella church in Florence, discussing with his uncle and the Pazzi Conspirators about the assassination of Lorenzo de' Medici and Giuliano. He is seen as being very confident that their mission will be a success, but Jacopo warns him that confidence led to the death of his son (killed by Ezio). During a High Mass at the Duomo, he violently stabs Lorenzo's brother, Giuliano, 19 times in the chest, leading to his death. He then tries to kill Lorenzo, but Ezio fights him off (forcing him to flee). He and Jacopo's soldiers attack Florence. He is later seen trying to invade the Palazzo della Signoria when Ezio turns up again. Ezio manages to fight off Francesco's guards, forcing Francesco to flee. Ezio kills him, however, and his naked body is hung over the Palazzo della Signoria by angry Florentines while Jacopo agitates the citizens, causing Jacopo to flee.

Trivia
*It might be that&nbsp;Francesco de' Pazzi had a daughter as well. Hinted in the games start, "Boys will be boys" Ezio comments "Your sister seemed quite satisfied with the handling I gave her earlier" to Vieri de' Pazzi just before their fight.
*In real life, Francesco de Pazzi was dragged from the Palazzo Pazzi and then hanged from the tower of the Palazzo della Signoria on April 26, 1478. His body was then cut down and desecrated.
*Francesco de Pazzi's bodies was hung naked from the Palazzo della Signoria. His stomach was cut open and his intestines fell out. This was replicated by Hannibal Lector in the movie "Hannibal", when he&nbsp;killed a Florentine police&nbsp;detective, who was a direct descendant of the Pazzi family, in the same way his ancestor died.
Father Antonio Maffei (1450-1479) is one of the monks under the employ of Lorenzo de' Medici, under the supervision of Uberto Alberti. As such, he is in league with Alberti's treachery towards Lorenzo, and was one of the key proponents of the Pazzi Conspiracy against the ruling family of Florence. He is portrayed by Shawn Baichoo.

Biography
Assassin's Creed: Lineage
Father Maffei's first appeared in the second part of Assassin's Creed: Lineage, after Giovanni intercepts a letter from the suspected conspirators of the murder of the Duke of Milan in Venice, which was waxed with the Barbarigo family seal. As Giovanni shows the letter to Lorenzo and Alberti, the latter quickly realizes that the contents are encrypted with a strange code, and that translating it would take several hours. Alberti then hands the letter to Father Maffei to work on.

Later that night Father Maffei hands the complete translation of the letter to Alberti, who praises him for the good work and tells him to fetch Giovanni for his next mission. But before leaving the palazzo, Alberti warns the priest of dangerous secrets, and makes him take a vow of silence, of not to tell anyone of the true contents of the letter. After fetching Giovanni from his residence and returning to the Medici palazzo, he is seen working on a duplicate letter, as Alberti claims they were "unable" to decode it, and hands the completed forged document for Giovanni to deliver to Rome.

After Giovanni's failure to capture Rodrigo Borgia, he returns to Florentine home as his wife tends to his near-fatal wound. Father Maffei then appears in front of the Auditore residence, with armed guards, demanding entry and custody of the Assassin. But Giovanni evades capture as his eldest son buys him enough time to slip into a hidden passageway.

Assassin's Creed II
Maffei blamed the Medicis for the Sacking of Volterra, his birthplace, by Florentine mercenaries. He is first seen in a secret chamber under the Santa Maria Novella meeting with Rodrigo Borgia and the other conspirators of the Medici brother's assassination. Father Maffei is next seen during the assassination attempt against Lorenzo at the Duomo, attempting to stab him and he slashes his neck. Maffei is later seen as one of the Pazzi conspirators that Ezio assassinates in San Gimignano (DNA Sequence 5). He is evidently going insane as he is found atop the tallest tower in the city spouting sermons and occasionally arrows. Ezio assassinates him when Antonio speaks a sermon and kills off Antonio's guards.

Final Words
Maffei: Away with you, demon!

Ezio: Have some respect for death, my friend.

Maffei:&nbsp;I'll show you respect! -

Ezio: (interupt) No, I will. Che tu possa alfine trovare riposo nel corpo e nella mente. (May your body and mind at last be still.) Requiescat in Pace. (Rest in peace.)

Trivia
In real life, Antonio Maffei was a monk who tried to kill Lorenzo. He sliced him below his right ear. He found refuge with Benedictine monks in the Badia Fiorentina across from the Palazzo Pazzi. He was arrested on May 3. His nose and ears were sliced off. He was hung from the Palazzo della Signoria tower.

Carlo Grimaldi (1445-1485) was a Templar and a government official. He was close to Doge Mocenigo of Venice and plotted to kill him. He was also a member of the Council Of Ten.

Carlo craved political power, and knew the Doge of Venice very well. Emerging from his palace in Monaco he used this to his advantage, and had heard that the Doge's daughter was in love with a servant but her father would not allow it. Carlo told them to escape on a boat that very night. When they arrived at the boat, they found Carlo waiting for them with a few guards and the Doge himself. The servant was killed and the Doge trusted Carlo enough to allow him into the Council Of Ten.

Carlo is first seen meeting with Emilio Barbarigo in the Palazzo della Seta and informing him of Ezio's arrival in Venice. He also informs Emilio of a meeting in Campo San Stefano later with other Templars. He leaves just before Emilio is assassinated. He is next seen in Venice meeting with Marco Barbarigo, Dante Moro, Silvio Barbarigo, and Rodrigo Borgia as they plot to poison the Doge so Marco can replace him. He doesn't seem to trust or like Silvio very much.

Carlo is later encountered in the Palazzo Ducale (Doge's palace), prior to Ezio Auditore's arrival via Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine, where he is playing chess with the Doge after hearing a commotion outside the Palace. Ezio rushes in only to realize that it was too late, the Doge has been poisoned. Carlo blames Ezio and runs out of the room, yelling to the guards that Ezio killed the doge. Ezio pursues him and assassinates him in the courtyard.

Final Words
Ezio: It takes one Assassin to kill another, it seems.

Carlo: We kill thinking it's best for us, do we not, Messer Ezio?

Ezio: I do this not for myself. Compio questo sacrificio per il bene superiore. (I make this sacrifice for the greater good.) Requiescat in Pace. (Rest in peace)

Trivia
*The fictional character Carlo comes from the real House of Grimaldi which still rules over Monaco today.
*According to the Animus database's filter, Carlo is not a Templar (while ploting with them). However, when viewing the portraits of Ezio's victims in his room of the Villa Auditore, Carlo's portrait says he IS a Templar.
*Carlo's death was featured in the E3 demo, but greatly differed from the one in the released game. Carlo's assassination was&nbsp;during Carnevale, instead of Marco Barbarigo's assassination. The death of Doge of Venice was also excluded and an extra scene with Carlo and a guard was added; the guard running to Carlo, screaming about Ezio's flying machine, with Carlo replying, "Coward! The Devil is not the one you need to fear," before stabbing the guard in the chest, "Tell him hello for me! I know you're here, assassin! show yourself, or are you afraid?"
Marco Barbarigo (1413-1485) was the&nbsp;cousin of Silvio Barbarigo, the older brother of Agostino Barbarigo&nbsp;and a Templar. He belongs to a rich and powerful family. A tyrant since a young age Marco was used to getting whatever he wanted.

Marco's wife, Carlotta, was previously married to his personal bodyguard and close friend Dante Moro. Marco orchestrated an attempt on Dante's life, which failed to kill him, but leads to brain damage. Now with the mind of a child Marco had Dante annul the marriage and is kept as Marco's personal slave.

Assassins Creed 2
Marco and Dante are first seen at a meeting in Venice with Silvio and Carlo Grimaldi. The meeting&nbsp;oddly takes place outside in broad daylight where anyone can hear and follow them (they are walking all over Venice). Marco also informs Silvio and Carlo of his cousin Emilio's death at Ezio Auditore's hands. They are followed by Ezio throughout the entire meeting (unknownly to them). They plot to kill the current Doge so that Marco can take his place and bring more power to the Templars. Their plan works the&nbsp;Doge&nbsp;is poisoned and&nbsp;dies shortly afterward. A few years later Ezio returns to Venice to kill Marco where it is learned that he never leaves the palace for any such reason at all except for the carnival (which coincidently&nbsp;starts the same day Ezio returned to Venice). After completing the games and getting the Golden mask&nbsp;he is seen on a barge making a speech&nbsp;and is killed by&nbsp;Ezio with the hidden gun. He shortly dies afterward. &nbsp;
Uberto Alberti (1416-1476) was a family friend of the Auditores and Lorenzo de' Medici's ally during the time of Assassin's Creed: Lineage and Assassin's Creed II, but betrayed them by issuing an arrest on Giovanni, Federico, Petruccio and Ezio (though he escapes it) by order of Rodrigo Borgia. He is also Ezio's first assassination target in the game. He is portrayed by Michel Perron in both Assassin's Creed II and Lineage (casted as "Umberto Alberti" in the film). His family was evicted by the Medici bank and ached for revenge. He was given the opportunity by the Templars. He is also considered one of the greatest lawyers in the Italian Renaissance, even though he had no formal education in Law, due to the fact that he was self-taught.
Uberto aids both Giovanni and Lorenzo by giving them advice, but when Giovanni discovers possible evidence of the Templar's plans, Uberto gets rid of it, revealing his true allegiance.

Ezio meets Uberto for the first time in Giovanni's office conversing about something urgent, though Ezio is dismissed by his father before he can understand what they were talking about. Soon, Giovanni sends Ezio with a letter containing evidence that he must give to Uberto. Ezio does as his father asks, swiftly making it to Uberto's house (where Rodrigo is currently at). Uberto immediately knows what's in the envelope and asks Ezio if he would like to stay at his house, though Ezio declines. Soon after receiving the letter, Uberto accuses Giovanni, Federico, Petruccio and Ezio (though he escapes because of his errands) of treason. At the day of the execution, Giovanni reminds Uberto of evidence given to him by Ezio that proves his family innocent, but much to his surprise, Uberto claims that he doesn't know what he is talking about, sentencing the three to death. With the sight of their deaths, Ezio runs up to the front the stage claiming that he will kill Uberto for what he has done, but a Brute Guard disarms Ezio before he could get close enough. Escaping the guards, Ezio heads for Paola, leader of the courtesans, who is watching his mother and sister. After a few days of training Ezio, Paola tracks down Uberto for Ezio's vengeance. Ezio follows Alberti to the Santa Croce cloister where he is attending an art exhibition of Maestro Verrochio"s work. He is seen speaking with Lorenzo de' Medici about the executions and insults Lorenzo. After Ezio dispatches the guards watching the courtyard of the Santa Croce, he sees Uberto speaking with various attending nobles who are congratulating him for the executions. Afterwards, he sees Ezio approaching but, before he can call the guards, Ezio brutally kills Uberto with his hidden blade, stabbing him 5 times in the chest. Avenging his father and brothers, Ezio proclaims to everyone in the courtyard that the Auditore are not dead.

Final Words
thumb|300px|right|Uberto Alberti database video.

Uberto: You would have done the same. To save the ones you love.

Ezio: Yes. I would. And I have.

Trivia
*Uberto saved the Templars from many close calls by destroying evidence of their conspiracy and hindering their enemies' progress
*It should be noted that Ezio assassinates Alberti in a rather "sloppy" manner when you consider that he does so by stabbing the man with the hidden blade at least six or seven times on the chest, rather than plunging the blade into his target's throat, which is the traditional assassination technique used by other assassins, including his ancestor Altair. Of course, this could be easily explained and understandable to most, since it is Ezio's first time tracking down an assassination target, and he has not been trained extensively by that point or he is simply venting his fury on the man who destroyed his family.
*According to the Animus database's filter, Uberto is not a Templar (while plotting with them). However, when viewing the portraits of Ezio's victims in his room of the Villa Auditore, Uberto's portrait says he IS a Templar.
*The reason why guards tried to take only the boys of the Auditore family could be so that they could no longer conventionally carry on their family name, quite effectively wiping out the Auditore.

The Pazzi family were Tuscan nobles who were bankers in Florence during the 15th century. They are most famous for the "Pazzi conspiracy". They are part of the Knights Templar in Assassin's Creed II.

Conspiracy
The Pazzi family was established in Florence as one of the most powerful of the city. It held its own guards posted all around the city, but they couldn't rule it... as long as the de facto governors of Florence held it: the Medici. Rodrigo Borgia, a member of the Templar Order proposed them to overthrow the Medici by killing its head: Lorenzo de' Medici. In 1476, Giovanni Auditore a close friend of Lorenzo and a member of the Assassins, sworn enemies of the Templars discovered the involvement of the Pazzi family in a conspiracy against the Medici. He managed to put Francesco de' Pazzi in jail. But the plot already reached members of the Medici government itself: Uberto Alberti, the gonfaloniere of justice freed Francesco while he made Giovanni and most of his sons executed for treason, wiping out the rival family of the Pazzi from Florence. With Giovanni dead, there were no more obstacles in the way of the Pazzi... until one Ezio, a son of Giovanni decided to fulfill his vengeance against the ones responsible for his father's death. Outside Florence, in the city of San Gimignano, there was a first victim of the new Assassin's blade: the young Vieri de' Pazzi. In 1478, Ezio returned to Florence. At the same moment, the Pazzi were having a meeting with the other Templars under the church of Santa Maria Novella. Ezio managed to attend it unnoticed. They were planning the assassination of Lorenzo and his brother Giuliano. Among the conspirators were: Stefano da Bagnone, Bernardo Baroncelli, Francesco Salviati, Antonio Maffei and of course the two members of the Pazzi family, Jacopo and Francesco, while they were given "spiritual" and military supports from the pope Sixtus IV. On the next day, they executed their plan. In front of the Florence Cathedral, they publicly attacked the Medici brothers. Francesco and Bernado managed to stab Giuliano to death while Stefano and Antonio fled after their failure to kill Lorenzo but seriously wounded him. Before Francesco could kill him, Ezio intervened. He repulsed the Pazzi assault and made Francesco flee. But with Lorenzo heavily wounded, he could take over the Palazzo della Signoria installing his own men in the government. Francesco invaded the Palazzo with his guards but Ezio tracked him down at the top of building. Seeing no issues, he leaped into a haystack fleeing the Assassin. Ezio eventually killed him. When Jacopo arrived at the Palazzo with the support of some citizens, it was too late: Francesco was hanged. With the failure of their plot, the Pazzi left Florence to hide in the Tuscan countryside and the city of San Gimignano. Ezio, still thirsty for revenge and in order to serve his new master Lorenzo, took all the Pazzi conspirators down wherever they were hiding.
Rodrigo Borgia (1 January 1431 – 18 August 1503), born Roderic Llançol, later Roderic de Borja i Borja, was the Grand Master of the Knights Templar during the Renaissance in Italy. He was elected Pope from 1492 to 1503 as Alexander VI. His enemies called him "The Spaniard" (due to his Spanish origins) while his Templar followers called him "Maestro" ("Master" in Italian). He was one of the most controversial of the Renaissance popes, and his surname (Italianized as Borgia) became a byword for the debased standards of the papacy of that era.

The Medicis were the ruling family in Florence. But a conspiracy was being plotted in a attempt to overthrow the powerful Lorenzo de' Medici, and Rodrigo Borgia was at the center of it. One night in 1476, Borgia was on his way to leave Florence with few of his men in the dark streets of the city. Suddenly, Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, an assassin, intercepted him. Borgia fled immediately as the assassin battled his men. Hidden behind a corner, he saw Giviovanni capture one of his men. The prisoner revealed to the plotted assassination of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan and a powerful ally of Lorenzo de' Medici, to Giovanni. Giovanni quickly went to stop the attempt, but arrived too late. Rodrigo and his accomplices' plan had succeeded and Borgia began planning the next move.

Deducing the origin of the Duke of Milan's murderers by looting a Ducat from one of them, Giovanni headed to Venice. There, he intercepted a message from Marco and Silvio Barbarigo to their master, Rodrigo. After having decoded the letter by Uberto Alberti and Father Maffei, Giovanni carried the copied message to Rome, in order to discover who is behind the plots. Once arrived in the city, he gave the message to a man. By tailing this one, it appears that the letter travels in various hands before arriving in its final destination: Rodrigo's. Rodrigo headed next to see pope Sixtus IV to obtain a military support in order to conquer Florence.

Assassin's Creed II
Later, Rodrigo attended the judgement of Giovanni and two of his sons. He later went to a meeting with the Pazzi family in San Gimignano and with the Templars in a catacomb under the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.

Borgia was later found in Venice, planning with Carlo Grimaldi and the Barbarigos to murder the current Doge, Giovanni Mocenigo, so that one of them can replace him and take control of Venice. He later appeared to lay claim to the Piece of Eden the Templars found in Cyprus. Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Giovanni's son, disguised as the carrier of the artifact, attempted to kill Borgia, but Borgia was prepared for the attack. The two began an intense battle against each other, with Ezio emerging as the victor. Realizing he could not defeat Ezio alone, Borgia called in a supply of guards to overwhelm Ezio. Suddenly, many of Ezio's allies appeared, revealing themselves to be assassins. They held off the guards to allow Ezio to re-challenge Borgia, who then escaped from them before Ezio could kill him.

Borgia later became the Pope and travelled to Rome. Borgia's true intent however, is just to get in the vault that lays under the Vatican, where, according to himself, God rested. Ezio chased him to assassinate him. Ezio snuck into the Vatican and seemingly assassinated Borgia without being seen. After Ezio finished speaking with Borgia he left only to see him rise from the ground and use his Piece of Eden, the Papal Staff, to strike down Ezio and everyone else in the room. However, he was surprised to see that Ezio has not given up his will to stop him, instead he brought out his own Piece of Eden, The Apple. Ezio then summoned four clones of himself to assist him in his battle against Borgia, eventually defeating him. Borgia snatched The Apple from Ezio's hands, and combined it with The Staff to open up the door to The Vault, which had been underneath Rome the whole time. Ezio tried to stop but he was lifted into the air by Borgia and stabbed with a sword, laying on the ground as Borgia escaped into the Vault. Ezio eventually found the Vault, with Borgia furiously pounding the door to the inner chambers. Ezio dropped down into the pit where Borgia was, and challenged him to an unarmed battle. Borgia accepted and the two have one last battle. During the battle, Borgia stated that he never believed in The Bible or in God, and only became Pope to get the Staff and access to the Vault, wanting to unify Italy under the Templar rule. Ezio defeated Borgia but refrained from killing him, saying that killing him will not bring back his family, leaving him alone in the Vault.

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery
Soon after, he heard of Christoffa Corombo's plans to sail west and arranged a meeting with him. Christoffa's right hand man Luis Santangel warned him that it was a trap, but Christoffa wouldn't listen. It was indeed a trap and Borgia ordered his men to give him proof of Christoffa's death.

(First assassination attempt by Ezio)

Ezio: I thought...I thought I was beyond this. But I'm not. I've waited too long, lost too much...Requiescat in Pace, (Rest in Peace) you bastard!

(Second "death scene" with Rodrigo)

Rodrigo: You can't! You can't! It's MY destiny! MINE! I am the prophet!

Ezio: You never were...

Rodrigo: Get it over with then.

Ezio: No. Killing you won't bring my family back... I'm done. Nulla&nbsp;è reale, tutto&nbsp;è lecito. Requiescat in Pace. (Nothing is true, everything is permitted. Rest in Peace.)
*As Ezio enters the Sistine Chapel to assassinate Borgia, he is proclaiming the Nicene Creed to the congregation.&nbsp; It is befitting and&nbsp;dramatic irony that he is assassinated as he proclaims this, as the Nicene Creed confesses the wholeness of the Christian doctrine, which Borgia later states in the final battle that he does not believe in.
* Although Ezio did not kill Borgia, he is listed as dead in the Animus' Conspirator Web after the player completes the game and reenters the Animus.&nbsp; This may be due to Ezio simply listing off Rodrigo as a target.
* While it is known that Rodrigo would go on to have the most debauched bloody papacy in human history what occurs between of him and Ezio is completely unknown as Rodrigo dies of a fever 4 years later in 1503 leaving ample time to wage a sizeable campaign against the Assassins himself.
* Throughout the entire game, Rodrigo is always wearing something that covers his head. Not once is he without a hat or a hood.
* Rodrigo's cloak from before his rise to Pope resembles Al Mualim's robe from Assassin's Creed.
Dante Moro (1460-1485) is a Templar and personal slave of Marco Barbarigo. He was previously the captain of the city guard and an heir to one of the most prestigious families in Venice.

Marco desired Dante's wife Carlotta, so he hired a hit on Dante. During the attempt on his life Dante is stabbed 3 times in the body and once in the head. While he miraculously survives the attack, Dante is left with severe brain damage and the mind of a child. After Marco coerces Dante into annulling his marriage to Carlotta, Marco makes Dante his personal slave.

He is first seen in Venice with Marco, Silvio Barbarigo and Carlo Grimaldi plotting to kill the Doge. He is next seen in the carnival with Silvio, where he fights Ezio in hand to hand to win a golden mask. He and Silvio cheat to win the mask and prevent Ezio from entering Marco's private party and killing him. Ezio then steals the golden mask from him and attends the party. Dante shows up and tries to look for Ezio, but fails, resulting in Marco's death. Dante goes with Silvio and escapes to a different part of Venice. Ezio finds them and kills them both when they are heading for a ship. Ezio asks them where they were going, and Silvio says he will not tell. Dante, however, says they are going to Cyprus, and is about to tell Ezio what for, but dies. After the assassination of Dante Moro, Ezio recovers a letter intended for Dante from his ex-wife Carlotta. Which reads:

My love,

I wonder if ever the day will come when these words might make sense to you once more. I am sorry for what I've done - for what you and I have both become. Though we could not be together , just knowing you were near was enough. And now, with Marco dead, I may yet find a way for us to be joined again.

But do you even remember me? Or were the wounds too grave? Do my words stir- if not your memory, then your heart? It doesn't matter what they say- I know you're still in there, somewhere.

I will find a way, my love. To remind you. To restore you...

Love always,

Carlotta

This letter can be found in the Animus database in Assassin's Creed II and also in the novel Assassins' Creed: Renaissance.
Ezio: Non temete l'oscurità - accettate il suo abbraccio. Requiescant in Pace.<br />(Fear not the darkness - but welcome it's embrace. Rest in Peace.)
Silvio Barbarigo (1435-1485) was the cousin of Marco Barbarigo and a Templar. He is a state inquisitor of Venice but is angry that his relatives are far more powerful than him. He is somehow related to Emilio Barbarigo.

Silvio wears a hooded red cloak over his head and is found in Venice.&nbsp;

However, he loses the arsenal to Ezio and Bartolomeo d'Alviano and attempts to flee in a boat bound for Cyprus (which, we later learn, is sailing there to collect a Piece of Eden. Silvio and Dante are both killed running to the docks by Ezio.

Marco and Dante are first seen at a meeting in Venice with Silvio and Carlo Grimaldi. The meeting&nbsp;oddly takes place outside in broad daylight where anyone can hear and follow them (they are walking all over Venice). Marco also informs Silvio and Carlo of his cousin Emilio's death at Ezio Auditore's hands. They are followed by Ezio throughout the entire meeting (unknownly to them). They plot to kill the current Doge so that Marco can take his place and bring more power to the Templars. Their plan works the&nbsp;Doge&nbsp;is poisoned and&nbsp;dies shortly afterward. A few years later Ezio returns to Venice to kill Marco where it is learned that he never leaves the palace for any such reason at all except for the carnival (which coincidently&nbsp;starts the same day Ezio returned to Venice). After completing the games and getting the Golden mask&nbsp;he is seen on a barge making a speech&nbsp;and is killed by&nbsp;Ezio with the hidden gun. He shortly dies afterward. &nbsp;

Final Words
Ezio: It takes one Assassin to kill another, it seems.
thumb|300px|left|

Jacopo de' Pazzi (1421-1480) was the uncle of Francesco de' Pazzi and great-uncle of Vieri de' Pazzi. While Francesco led the Pazzi family in the conspiration against the de' Medici and Auditore families, Jacopo describes himself as "the voice of reason" of the group.

Jacopo is first seen in Tuscany with his nephew Francesco, his great-nephew Vieri, and the Spaniard Rodrigo Borgia, grandmaster of the Knights Templar. His next sighting is&nbsp;at a meeting in the Santa Maria Novella in Florence, where&nbsp;he&nbsp;and Francesco are&nbsp;talking to four Templar hitmen hired to kill Lorenzo de' Medici. Jacopo is also seen in&nbsp;Florence after Francesco's death where he is on horseback and inciting the people to shout liberty. He&nbsp;sees Francesco's body hanging from a&nbsp;tower. Knowing that the plan to take over Florence has failed, he flees the city and escapes.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze tracks&nbsp;Jacopo to a meeting with the other Templar&nbsp;conspirators in the Antico Teatro Romano near San Gimignano. Here, Jacopo is lectured severely and then stabbed in the chest by Rodrigo Borgia and Emilio Barbarigo. When Jacopo&nbsp;pleads for mercy, Borgia instead stabs a sword through his neck. Jacopo is left barely alive, and Ezio, after fighting off a group of&nbsp;Templar soldiers set by Borgia to kill him, approaches Jacopo and uses the hidden blade to put him out of his misery.

The Real Life Jacopo de Pazzi
Jacopo de Pazzi was actually the uncle of Francesco. He was beaten up&nbsp;in April 27, 1478 by the citizens of Castagno de San Godemar&nbsp;and handed to Florence. On April 28, he was hung from the same tower window as Francesco and the Archbishop Salviati. After he was hung for a while, the angry mob&nbsp;threw his body out the window, then they dragged his naked body through the streets of&nbsp;Florence,&nbsp;and then they&nbsp;threw his body into the river Arno off the Ponte Vecchio. His body floated down the river for all to see. After this posthumous torture&nbsp;he was buried at Santa Croce, also called the Pazzi Chapel.
Archbishop Francesco Salviati of Pisa, (1443-1479) was the archbishop of Pisa and one of the major Pazzi conspirators.

Francesco was convinced he would be the next Archbishop of Florence. But he was enraged when Lorenzo de' Medici stood in his way. But the Templars were there to heal his wounds. It was Salviati who marched his troops into the city. Afterwards, he fled to an area in Tuscany near San Gimignano. Francesco lives within Villa Salviati in Tuscany, where he is assassinated by Ezio Auditore da Firenze in Sequence 5. Ezio opens the villa's gate to let in Mario's mercenaries. Salviati screamed insults at Ezio and the assassin replied that the Templars talked too much. He is stabbed by Ezio while fighting the mercenaries.
Trivia
In real life, Archbishop Salviati was the main instigator of the conspiracy and not the Pazzis. He was supposed to go to the Palazzo Vecchio and kill the Gonfaloniere Petrucci and take hold of the Palazzo della Signoria. Yet, he was arrested by Petrucci and hanged by a mob from the window of the Sala dei Duecento next to Francesco de Pazzi. He sank his teeth into Pazzi's chest as he died. His body was cut down and desecrated.
As one of the men who Jacopo de' Pazzi hired to kill Lorenzo, he was the who delivered the first blow to Guiliano. Baroncelli was later captured while attempting to flee to Constantinople but escaped to San Gimignano.Baroncelli is later assassinated by Ezio Auditore da Firenze in San Gimignano(Sequence 5). He is evidently becoming paranoid of Ezio and Lorenzo and is muttering to himself how to stay safe. Baroncelli is a banker by day, and a murdering Templar by night.
Stefano da Bagnone (1418-1480) is one of the Pazzi conspirators who attempted to murder Lorenzo de' Medici. He was a monk and an secretary to Jacopo de Pazzi. As one of the men whom Jacopo hired to kill Lorenzo, he was the one who stabbed Lorenzo in the back at the Duomo. He was known for his cruelty towards others. Stefano was trained in Rome as a Templar Butcher. He flees Florence and hides in the Monte Oliveto Maggiore, a monastery near San Gimignano. Before being assassinated by Ezio, Bagnone was telling another monk that God did not exist.

Before killing Stefano, Mario's mercenary will give you 3 smoke bombs, which will help you escape after assassinating your target.

Maffei blamed the Medicis for the Sacking of Volterra by Florentine mercenaries.

Francesco de' Pazzi (1444-1478) is the father of Vieri de' Pazzi and one of the Pazzi conspirators. He is the third assassination target of Ezio. He is also secretly a Templar. Apart from that, he was also one of Firenze's wealthiest nobles.

Vieri de' Pazzi&nbsp;(1454-1478) is a Pazzi nobleman and secretly a Templar.

Vieri is seen at the beginning of Assassins Creed 2 and he fights Ezio who was gathering people to fight his family for slandering the Auditore name. He is later seen just outside the Auditore family villa trying to kill him and what remains of his family. But Mario Auditore intervenes as he saves Ezio and beats Vieri's men. He is the second assassination target and killed at San Gimignano by Ezio.

Assassin's Creed 2
He apperently was an enemy of Ezio for unknown reasons as the two&nbsp;always seemed to&nbsp;fight each other like in the beginning of the game where Ezio his brother and other people fight Vieri and his men. During the fight Vieri hits Ezio in the face with a rock giving Ezio his scar in the same place like Altair&nbsp;and Desmond. In the end,&nbsp;Vieri loses the fight&nbsp;and runs away. Vieri&nbsp;and Ezio don't see each other again for awhile.&nbsp; The next time they meet Ezio is trying to escape Florence with his mother and sister. Vieri meets them on their way to Monterrigioni and attempts to kill them. However, he is thwarted in his attempt when Ezio's uncle Mario Auditore appears with mercenaries to protect the family. The next time they meet Ezio&nbsp;has been training as&nbsp;an assassin for a while and teams up with his uncle&nbsp;Mario to kill him. He is seen consulting with his father Francesco, his great-uncle Jacopo and Templar Grandmaster Rodrigo Borgia about an unknown topic (though it is likely they are discussing the plot to murder the Medici brothers). Vieri stays behind to defend San Gimignano. After several fierce battles Ezio&nbsp;and Vieri meet face to face again for the last time.&nbsp;Vieri is fatally&nbsp;stabbed ending the fight with Ezio as the winner. Before he dies Ezio demands Vieri for answers, but Vieri&nbsp;answers Ezio in the form of a question and dies.&nbsp; After Vieri dies, Ezio slanders his corpse and name but is stopped by Mario. Mario shows the deceased Vieri respect by offering words of blessing and closing his eyes. Vieri's family would sadly not last longer than him.
*Strangely, Vieri's birth date appears to be 1454, whereas his father, Francesco, is 1444. A Possibility could be that Vieri could be adopted, though this is yet to be confirmed.
*His only desire was to kill Ezio.
*When not doing anything bad, he worked as a Race Host.
*He seemed to hate losing, as shown in the database video he would invite the winner of an event Vieri participated to a victory meal, and serve them food that was poisoned.
*Vieri is the one responsible for Ezio's scar, caused from a rock thrown from Vieri in the beginning of Assassin's Creed II.

However, he is thwarted in his attempt when Ezio's uncle Mario appears with mercenaries to protect the family.

He is seen speaking with Lorenzo de Medici about the executions and insults Lorenzo.

Emilio Barbarigo (1421-1485)&nbsp;was a tyrant of Venice and was secretly a Templar. He is the first assassination target in Venice. Nevertheless, he&nbsp;was an extremely wealthy&nbsp;noble merchant, who's sole desire was to take over Venice. &nbsp;

In Venice, Emilio had taken control of Venice's merchant district and was ruling it with an iron fist. Emilio provided weapons to the other templars in Florence. He apparently single-handedly funded the city guard. He lives in a large palazzo surrounded by many guards.

He is first seen at a meeting with various Templars including Jacopo de' Pazzi and Rodrigo Borgia. During this meeting, he kills Jacopo along with Borgia. Garnier de Naplouse is the second Templar assigned by Al Mualim for Altaïr to assassinate. He is a doctor and Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller in the city of Acre and a secret member of the Knights Templars.

Description
Garnier de Naplouse was exiled from France for the cruel and inhumane treatment of his patients. He viewed them less as people, or more as test subjects. He later re-established mad business in the city of Acre where he treats his patients cruelly by conducting experiments on them, torturing them, and not allowing them leave (even going so far as having his men break their legs). In order to not draw attention to his acts he forcefully takes his patients from the surrounding cities of Jerusalem and Damascus with help of Talal, a fellow member of the Templars. He has been protected in Acre due to the amount of money his family had donated towards the war effort.

Though claiming to be a man of knowledge, Garnier lacks ethics. He never sees the price of knowledge as too high, even if it must be paid with another man's blood.

Death
Garnier was assassinated within his Hospitalier Fortress by Altaïr while attending to his victims. Altair first sees him attending to a patient who was trying to escape. Garnier has his men break the man's legs so it wouldn't happen again. During his monologue after his assassination, he speaks of how he was actually helping people. He claims that the people he took were among the poorest and most ill of the other cities, and that many have recovered and thanked him for his help. He says his methods were necessary to free people from the "prisons of their own minds".

Final Words
Altaïr: Let go your burden.

Garnier: Ah, I'll rest now, yes. The endless dream calls to me, but before I close my eyes, I must know: what will become of my children?

Altaïr: You mean the people made to suffer your cruel experiments!? They'll be free to return to their homes!

Garnier: Homes!? What homes!? The sewers? The brothels? The prisons that we dragged them from?

Altaïr: You took these people against their will!

Garnier: Yes, what little will there was for them to have. Are you really so naive? Do you appease a crying child, simply because he wails? "But I want to play with fire, father". What would you say? "As you wish?". Ah, but then you'd answer for his burns.

Altaïr: These are not children, but men and women, full grown.

Garnier: In body, perhaps, but not in mind, which is the very damage I sought to repair. I admit, without the Piece of Eden-which you stole from us- my progress was slowed. But there are herbs, mixtures and extracts. My guards are proof of this: they were madmen before I found and freed them from the prisons of their own minds...and with my death, madmen they will be again.

Altaïr: You truly believe you were helping them?

Garnier: It's not what I believe...it's what I know.

Trivia
*Garnier de Naplouse (also known as Garnier de Nablus) was a real-life leader of the Knights Hospitalier, who ruled from 1190 to 1192. In contrast to the in-game depiction, the real-life Garnier was a courageous and brave individual who led the Hospitallers and the Crusaders to many victories: not a sadistic and cruel individual as portrayed in the game.
Such pride. It will destroy you, child.
Tamir is the first person Al Mualim orders Altaïr to assassinate. He is found in the poor district of Damascus.

Description
Tamir is the largest death dealer in the land and does most of his business in the soul of the poor district of Damascus. He doesn't take kindly to people who insult him and isn't afraid to kill those who do.

At time that Altaïr was searching for him, Tamir had a shipment of weapons for an unknown client that was later revealed to be Robert de Sable (Grandmaster of the Knight Templars).

Death
Tamir is assassinated by Altaïr, during a meeting in the courtyard of the Souk Al-Sallah with a man filling out Robert's order. The man claims that he doesn't have enough time and enough men to fill out the order by the deadline. Tamir doesn't take kindly to that and calls him names, saying, "These are the kinds of excuses that I would expect from a lazy or incompetent man." He stabs the man to death and throws him in the fountain. He then tells the guard to leave him as a warning.

Tamir then starts going around to street vendors in order to inspect their work, and Altaïr uses this chance to assassinate Tamir. In the cutscene that follows, Tamir claims that he is different from the rest of the death dealers and that his death had a higher meaning. This leaves Altaïr wondering what he could mean.

Final Words
Altaïr: Be at peace.

Tamir: You'll pay for this. You and all your kind.

Altaïr: It seems you're the one who pays now, my friend. You'll not profit from suffering any longer.

Tamir: You think me some petty death dealer, suckling at the breast of war!? A strange target, don't you think? Why me, when so many others do the same?

Altaïr: You believe yourself different, then?

Tamir: Oh but I am, for I serve a far nobler cause than mere profit. Just like my brothers.

Altaïr: Brothers?

Tamir: Ah, but he thinks I act alone. I am but a piece, a man with a part to play. You'll come to know the others soon enough...they won't take kindly to what you've done!

Altaïr: Good. I look forward to ending their lives as well!

Tamir: Such pride. It will destroy you, child.

Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles
Another character named Tamir is seen in Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles. Tamir is portrayed as a fat, rich, obsessed merchant who cares about nobody save himself. He is flushed out of his mansion by the player setting some oil barrels on fire. He then gives Altaïr some vital information, and then Altaïr kills Tamir.
