Learning that Thatch was anchored at [[Ocracoke|Ocracoke Island]], Maynard found the pirates' camp but held off the attack. Instead, he and a garrison of British [[Guards|soldiers]], along with a spy called [[Jenkins]], went ashore. Jenkins infiltrated the bustling beach where the celebration was being held, following which he reported back to Maynard, whom he had arranged to meet with further inland.<ref name="AC4"/>

As they walked through the ruins of an estate, Maynard listened to Jenkins' account, both oblivious to the fact that they were being eavesdropped upon by [[Edward Kenway]]. After reaching a cliff where Maynard's men had set up a flare cannon, Jenkins shot the flare as a signal, officially commencing the attack of Maynard's armada on the pirate camp. Thatch and Kenway faced their aggressors aboard the latter's brig, the ''[[Jackdaw]]'', before boarding one of Maynard's Men O' War. In the end, Thatch was overrun and killed, while Kenway was pushed overboard and managed to escape.<ref name="AC4"/>

Unable to disable the ship, Thatch began to flee, but was forced to make land on [[Mariguana Island]], where Kenway was able to assist Thatch and his protege [[Stede Bonnet]] against the British. Kenway then took the ''Queen'''s helm and overpowered the warship.

Weeks later, Thatch sailed for the port of [[Charleston|Charles-Towne]] in another attempt to locate medicine, [[Siege of Charles-Towne|operating]] from the ship's decks while he sent a negotiation party ashore. When the group failed to return, Thatch captured three local men and tied them to the ''Queen Anne'''s aft mast until Kenway arrived again and retrieved the medicines.

Following this event, Thatch decided to retire and sailed for his favorite hideout on [[Ocracoke Island]], mooring the ''Queen Anne'' at the docks. However, his celebrations were cut short when the Royal Navy ambushed the pirates. In 1715, Thatch, Hornigold and [[Mary Read|James Kidd]] met with Edward Kenway in [[Nassau]]. There, the four discussed their plans to free the city of its British garrison and turn it into their very own Pirate Republic. Thatch, with the assistance of Kenway, arranged for the capture and subsequent use of a [[Spanish Navy|Spanish]] [[Man O' War|galleon]], ''[[El Arca del Maestro]]'', as a fortified defense of one of the island's harbors, beaching it on nearby [[Abaco Island]].<ref name="AC4"/>

By 1717, having grown his beard to transform himself into the character of "Blackbeard", Thatch commandeered a ship called the ''Adventure'' - captained by [[Stede Bonnet]] - for himself. Allowing Bonnet to remain aboard as a protégé, Thatch commanded the ship for two months when he captured the [[France|French]] [[Slave ships|slave ship]] ''La Concorde''. In early 1717, Thatch encountered three ships that belonged to his friend, [[Samuel Bellamy]] and his associates, [[Olivier Levasseur]] and [[Alonzo Batilla]] in the [[Grand Bahama]]s. They were engaged in an uneven fight against the ''[[King George]]'', a British Man O'War led by the Templar Captain [[Francis Hume]]. Thatch decided to assist them by firing a broadside into the Man O'War, allowing Batilla to destroy the battered ship by shooting at its weak spots. Later that year, he met Batilla again at [[La Boca del Diablo]] and informed the pirate about Bellamy's death in a storm and the wreckage of Levasseur's ship, ''[[Le Postillon]]''. Batilla discovered the Templars' involvement in the attack and told Thatch about the Templars and their attempt to rule the seas. Thatch and Kenway traveled to the British colony at [[Charleston|Charles-Towne]] in order to procure a large amount of medicine, which had been sourced to the town by a box found in the captured Man O' War. By the time Kenway arrived, the ''Queen Anne's Revenge'' had been blockading the town for seven days and had taken several hostages, encouraging Charles-Towne to surrender its medicine. To Thatch's disappointment, there had been no response, and the party he sent to bargain with the governor had not returned.<ref name="AC4"/>

With Kenway's arrival, they successfully procured the needed medicine. However, when Kenway suggested they return to Nassau, Thatch declined, saying he would be traveling north for business. Kenway inferred that Thatch had no plans to return to Nassau, which Thatch confirmed, saying that he intended to go into retirement.<ref name="AC4"/>

Thatch accepted a pardon from {{Wiki|Charles Eden (politician)|Charles Eden}}, governor of [[North Carolina]], but quickly resumed piracy to gather more funds for his retirement. [[Alexander Spotswood]], the governor of [[Virginia (state)|Virginia]], became aware of his continued piracies, and paid Lieutenant [[Robert Maynard]] to get rid of him.<ref name="AC4"/>

After the blockade of Nassau by British forces, Kenway and Vane tracked Thatch down to [[Ocracoke]] to convince him to return, to no avail. While Vane swore him off, Kenway was more understanding, saying he did not begrudge Thatch his choice. In thanks, Thatch informed him that the [[Sages|Sage]] [[Bartholomew Roberts]] was rumored to be sailing on a slaver ship called the ''[[Princess]]''.<ref name="AC4"/>

Later that evening, two Royal Navy vessels under Maynard launched an ambush, destroying the small settlement as well as the ships anchored in the harbor, including the ''Queen Anne's Revenge'', which forced Thatch and Kenway to make their escape aboard the ''[[Jackdaw]]'', the only ship to survive the attack. The two soon realized, however, that they would need to capture the attacking Man O' War in order to leave safely, and subsequently boarded it.<ref name="AC4"/>

Thatch was a warm and avuncular man who despised the corruption of the British bureaucracy and cared deeply about building an independent state for dispossessed privateers like himself in Nassau. Although the Pirate Republic fell into squalor, he went to tremendous lengths to find medicine for his disease-ridden brethren, until the point he felt his age was catching up to him and left.<ref name="AC4"/>

The demonic persona of Blackbeard was crafted by Thatch to avoid actually using violence to intimidate his enemies. He bolstered his formidable image by performing stunts such as lighting fuses in his hair, pouring gunpowder in his rum, or forcing his crew to work below deck as he burned sulfur to prove he was the hardiest of all of them. He grew out his beard partly to make himself all the more iconic.<ref name="AC4"/>

Unfortunately, Thatch's fearsome reputation caught up to him when the British attacked and killed him, just as he was retiring.<ref name="AC4"/>

There, he entered into a relationship with barmaid [[Anne Bonny]], who convinced him to return to his previous life in August 1720.

Together, the two men informed the others of a huge ransom being held at [[Punta Guarico|a nearby fort]] by [[Cuba]]n governor [[Laureano de Torres y Ayala]], prompting Kenway to storm the [[Forts|fort]] and take the gold.

A year later, in 1718 Jack became involved in a plot by Kenway and Vane to breach a British blockade of Nassau, set up after the [[Templars|Templar]], Governor [[Woodes Rogers]], had traveled to the city to reclaim it in the name of the [[Monarchy|British Crown]]. Rogers had previously offered the pirate captains and their crews amnesty, if they would give up their pirating and return to Britain; an offer both Vane and Rackham refused.

===Mutiny===
Following their escape from Nassau, which came at the expense of Jack's ship, the ''Royal Phoenix'', the three pirate captains agreed to pursue Kenway's fabled [[Observatory]]. They would start by locating a ship of the [[Royal African Company]], which they hoped would lead them to the ''[[Princess]]'', a slave ship carrying [[Bartholomew Roberts]], the only man able to locate the Observatory.

Eventually, they found and engaged the slave ship ''[[Royal African Pearl]]'', but Vane's vessel was devastated in the battle and left adrift. Despite this, Kenway's ''[[Jackdaw]]'' was able to capture the warship, where they learned that the ''Princess'' sailed from Kingston every few months. At that moment, Rackham struck.

In alliance with the ''[[Ranger]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s crew, Jack mutinied against Vane, apprehending him alongside Kenway and the ''Jackdaw'''s quartermaster, [[Adéwalé]]. Rackham remarked that he would sell Adéwalé in a local slave market, but that he could take no chances with Kenway or Vane, and so elected to strand them aboard the unseaworthy ''Ranger'' while he claimed the ''Jackdaw'' as his own.

Barely two months had passed before Rackham limped back to Nassau to accept the King's pardon. Upon his arrival he was detained by [[Mary Read|James Kidd]] and Adéwalé, the man he had recently tried to sell into slavery. Not long thereafter, the three traveled to Kenway's manor on [[Great Inagua]], where they returned control of the ship to the formerly marooned captain.

===Return to piracy, capture and death===
Despite his actions, Jack was able to continue his life in Nassau. By 1720, he had become involved with [[Anne Bonny]], a married woman who worked at the [[Old Avery]] [[Taverns|tavern]] in the settlement. Before long, however, Anne's infidelity was discovered and Jack, unable to buy off Anne's spurned husband, elected to elope with her. Together with James Kidd, now openly acting as Mary Read, Anne and Jack left Nassau and returned to a career as pirates.

At first they did well, capturing a number of small fishing vessels, but within four months of leaving Nassau they were attacked by the Royal Navy. With Jack and his crew passed out from drink, there stood only Anne Bonny, Mary Read and a third man to fight off the Royal Navy. Soon enough, the three were overrun and the vessel captured. Rackham, Bonny and Read were taken to Port Royal, and sentenced to hang for the crime of piracy.

A few weeks after his sentencing, Jack was executed, and his body subsequently placed in a {{Wiki|Gibbeting|gibbet}}. Several months later, Rackham's corpse was found by Edward during the latter's escape from the prison. The pirate mused that despite Jack's failings as both a sailor and a friend, it dismayed him to see him in that state and he hoped Rackham had found some sort of peace in the afterlife.

The '''Siege of Fort William Henry''' was a part of the [[French and Indian War]]. In August 1757, French troops under [[Louis-Joseph de Montcalm]] and their [[Abenaki]] allies under the [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Kesegowaase]] besieged [[Fort William Henry]] for days, until the [[United Kingdom|British]] commander, [[George Monro]], surrendered.

Monro and his men were allowed to retreat, but despite Montcalm's orders, Kessegowaase and his Indian Allies disobeyed them and ambushed the fleeing British. Seeking to kill Monro, who was a member of the [[Templars|Templar Order]] and supposedly held the [[Voynich manuscript|Precursor manuscript]], he and his men killed dozens of British troops. Thanks to the intervention of Templar ally and former Assassin [[Shay Cormac]], Monro survived.
