Bombs were explosive weapons used by Assassins from as early as the Middle Ages. They could be used for a variety of tactics, including escape, assault and distraction.

Smoke bombs
Smoke bombs were devices that were used more for distraction, rather than attack. Using a powder technology from the Far East, the bomb released a thick, grayish smoke screen for about eight seconds when thrown.

With a smoke bomb device, an Assassin was able to halt any enemy or target, and allow for an easy assassination or escape. This allowed them to strike specific targets, or take down larger groups of enemies without being seen or encountering resistance.

History
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad had access to smoke bombs during his quest for the Chalice. He could carry up to five of them at a time, though evidently stopped using them after the events at Solomon's Temple.

Smoke bombs were the only type of bombs that were commonly available to Ezio Auditore up until the 16th century. However, upon traveling to Constantinople during his quest to open Altaïr's library, he gained access to a far more extensive choice of bombs.

During the Renaissance, smoke bombs were disposable, and had to be purchased for 350 florins each. Ezio could carry a maximum of three at once, which he stored in a non-upgradeable pouch.

Ezio also made use of smoke bombs in the city of Rome, though the actual cloud itself was visually a lot smaller than during the previous century. Smoke bombs were also used by Assassin recruits to stun guards once they reached the rank of Veterano (Veteran).

Hand-held bombs
Hand-held bombs were small explosive devices designed and manufactured by Ezio's close friend, Leonardo da Vinci. Consisting of a small, steel ball filled with sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate, they also possessed a small fuse which required lighting before the device could be detonated.

History
As a young privateer and then naval sailor, Piri Reis used a variety of bombs.

These bombs were first used against Cesare Borgia's diehards, who had amassed a sizable military force in the city of Valencia.

During the attack on Valencia, Ezio and Niccolò Machiavelli, each equipped with ten hand-held bombs, brought chaos to Cesare's military forces. They destroyed twelve Borgia ships, and an entire military encampment.

Crafting
Upon traveling to Constantinople, Ezio learned how to create a wide range of bombs, with 120 variations. In general, they are divided into three categories: lethal, tactical and diversion.

The Assassins had set up bomb-crafting stations throughout the cities, in order to be able to craft bombs whenever they came across one. Ezio could also quickly recraft bombs until he had none left.

The bombs could be customized based on their different components; casing, gunpowder layer, and effect layer. The casing affected the bomb's structure, while the gunpowder layer defined the properties of the explosion itself, along with the effect layer providing a further result on detonation; such as the scattering of caltrops.

Ezio was able to collect different resources for each of these bombs, and could craft up to five bombs per pouch. Ezio could also buy bombs from black market dealers, or ingredients from Reis's shop in the Grand Bazaar, doctors, blacksmiths and other cities.

Ezio can test a bomb in the VR room to see it's effects without having to waste any bombs.

|
|Used to kill or injure targets with the force of the explosion only.
|
|-
|Blood
|Once detonation was achieved, lambs blood will splatter over people near it, scaring them by thinking they have been injured.

199.15.222.36: /* Assassins Guild */ Sorry dude, but it's five recruits, not seven.

Brotherhood
Guild Challenges are activities available to complete in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Completing 10 Guild Challenges will earn the player the "Show Off" Achievement/Trophy.

Completing challenges gives in-game benefits; completing two challenges results in the cost of hiring followers being reduced by half, completing five gives followers new skills (with the exception of Mercenaries) and a guild crest, and finishing all ten grants a new weapon accessible at the Assassin's Tiber Island headquarters. The only exception is the Assassin's Guild, which only grants a guild crest and weapon with full completion.

Assassins Guild
*25 Assassin Recruits signaled during a fight.
*15 Arrow Storms.
* 20 Assassin Recruits signaled to kill a target.
* 5 Assassin Recruits signaled within a core memory.
* 5 Recruits raised to the rank of Assassino.

Upon completing all five of these challenges, the player unlocks the Assassin's Guild crest, as well as Altaïr's Sword at Ezio's hideout

Mercenaries Guild
* 10 Mercenary groups sent to attack guards.
* 5 Scaffolds destroyed by thrown guards.
* 25 Brutes killed.
* 25 Papal guards killed
* 25 Guards killed while on horseback.
* 10 Guards air assassinated while on horseback.
* 10 Double Assassinations.
* 5 Guards disarmed and killed with their own weapons.
* Kill 5 guards in 10 seconds.
* 10 Streaks of at least 5 kills.

Upon completing all ten of these challenges the player unlocks Bartolomeo's Axe at Ezio's hideout.

Note: "On horseback" means that the guards must spawn on horseback, not Ezio.

Courtesans Guild
* 10 Courtesan groups sent to distract guards.
* 10 Enemies evaded using the crowd and other hide spots.
* 20 Enemies stationed at Guard Posts killed using the crossbow without being detected.
** Specifically, Ezio must shoot guards with their arms crossed over their chest such that he is not detected for 3 seconds after the guard falls.
* 10 Horses belonging to guards commandeered without killing the rider.
* 5 Dead bodies hidden in wells or haystacks.
* 15 Guards poisoned.
* 20 Guards killed during a smoke bomb attack.
* 10 Guards assassinated from behind.
* 5 Guards assassinated from blend spots.

Upon completing all nine of these challenges the player unlocks Maria's Dagger at Ezio's hideout.

Thieves Guild
* 10 Thief groups sent to lure guards.
* 1 Sprint uninterrupted for 300 meters.
* 20 Jump from a horse to a beam.
* 40 Leaps of faith.
* 1 Perform a dive from a height of 25 meters.
* 250 f pickpocketed.
** A glitch occurred when a player pickpocketed too many people at the same time, which caused the player to have unknowingly exceeded the amount. The glitch has since been fixed.
* Glide a cumulative total of 500 meters with the parachute.
** An easy way to do this is to climb to the top of the Castello and parachute off of the top a few times.
* 25 Guards killed with a ranged weapon.
* 5 Guards air assassinated from a beam.

Upon completing all nine of these challenges the player unlocks La Volpe's Bite at Ezio's hideout.

*Rank 1: Guild Crest, Sword of Altaïr

Mercenaries
*Rank 10: 50% discount on hiring Mercenary groups
*Rank 5: Guild Crest
**Bodyguard - When a minstrel runs towards you and gets in your way, the mercenaries will push him out of the way until he runs away.
**Rider Takedown - When you're being charged at by a guard on a horse, the mercenaries will trip the animal similar to how Ezio would do with the 'counter' move.
*Rank 1: Bartolomeo's Axe

Courtesans
*Rank 10: 50% discount on hiring Courtesan groups
*Rank 5: Guild Crest
**Decoy Rider - Target the rider, order the women to distract him and he will stop the horse, dismount and act like a regular distracted guard.
**Courtesan Poison - Walk past some guards and 2 courtesans will break off (like normal). The girls will blow white powder into the guards faces and walk off (you can't get those 2 back). The guards will follow a little way before succumbing to the poison and reacting like they do when Ezio uses the poison blade on them.
*Rank 1: Maria's Dagger

Thieves
*Rank 10: 50% discount on hiring Thief groups
*Rank 5: Guild Crest
**Autosteal - Walk through any crowd and the thieves will pickpocket florins for you, similar to how Ezio does it when he fast walks.
**Horse Pull - Target a guard on a horse, instruct your thieves to lure said guard and the thieves will (if possible) pull the guard from the horse and then run away, the guard following. A thief may also steal his horse.
*Rank 1: La Volpe's Bite

Tips
* The challenges do not account for any progress done before renovating the Guilds (and "unlocking" the Assassins Guild), so do not start on them until later in Sequence 3 (after renovating the Courtesan, Mercenary and Thieves' Guilds), and midway through Sequence 4 (the Assassins Guild).
* To simplify the hiring challenge, you can keep renovating the faction building, making a corresponding group appear near (thieves appear on top) the faction building. Choose a random guard to distract/lure/attack, head back, renovate, repeat.

Assassins
* A tactic to increase the speed of the Arrow Storm recharge meter is to send 6 Assassin Apprentices out on missions with similar time limits, then use Arrow Storm right before they're due to come back.

Mercenaries
* Since assassination from the ground doesn't count towards your progress for the Mercenary challenges specifying "on horseback," a good tactic is to either assassinate your targets from a horse (thus stealing their horse) or to kill them with a crossbow.
*For the "kill 25 Papal Guards" challenge, one should look for the group of four Papal Guards that spawn at the entrance to the Vaticano district, or within the district itself, as Papal Guards are found nowhere else in the game outside of story missions.
*For the "10 Guards air assassinated while on horseback." challenge, an easy way to complete it is assassinate a guard on a horse when Ezio himself is riding a horse, as this counts as an air assassination.

Courtesans
*For any who missed the "kill 20 enemies stationed at Guard Posts" challenge, the Memory "French Kiss" of the Baron de Valois Sequence is the most useful, as there are multiple guard posts targeted. Additionally, loading the mission but not starting it (by avoiding the exclamation mark) allows you to use the respawn trick.
*Using the Antico district area near the Thieves Guild building is a good strategy for the challenge "sprint uninterrupted for 300 meters." You may also find an empty field and run around in a circle until you reach 300 meters. Once fully repaired, running along the top of the aqueduct (through the water, not on the walls) is also a good way of getting this challenge, as it is long and straight with no obstacles.
*Getting every Viewpoint will take you more than halfway to the goal of "40 leaps of faith," and using Leaps as an evasive maneuver in-game should get you the rest of the way.
*The "pickpocket 250 f" challenge can be completed in a single pickpocket, by bribing a Herald with 500 f, and immediately stealing your money back.
*A good place to get "20 jumps from a horse to a beam" is near Ezio's Hideout. There is a bridge next to the hideout, which has a beam stretching between two walls. Because of the open space, it's easier and less stressful. For it to count to the 20 jumps, you must spin around the beam once completely, making you sit on top of the beam.
*It is recommended to attempt the "20 jumps from a horse to a beam" in an area where there are two or more beams lined up. You may save time after spinning around the beam by jumping forward onto the next beam, then immediately back onto your horse.
*For the "20 jumps from a horse to a beam" challenge it is important to remember to tap the legs button while standing and galloping towards the beam, instead of holding the legs button after Ezio first grabs on and begins his flip. If you hold the legs button while Ezio flips around the beam it will not count towards the guild challenge.
*You can complete "Use 10 thief groups to distract guards" with one thief group by using them on guards on top of roofs.
*A good place for getting the "Glide a cumulative total of 500 meters with the parachute" is on the top of the Castel Sant'Angelo, where you can also get the "Fly Like An Eagle" achievement.
*You can complete the "Perform a dive from a height of 25 meters" in the viewpoint at the Tiber Island Hideout.
