In the Assassin's Creed series, fists are the weakest form of fighting available to the player. Guards will not intervene with a fistfight, unless the player is attacking a guard. However, if the player draws a weapon they will attack.

Assassin's Creed
Altaïr's fists are also the only weapon he can use to interrogate a target without killing or causing them to run, even though the target is always assassinated once Altaïr has his information. When attempting to pickpocket a thug for throwing knives, if he notices Altaïr stealing from him, he may start a fist fight. You can choose to punch back, or you can draw one of your swords and he will immediately flee. The latter will attract the attention of nearby guards if you don't put it away immediately. As weak as fists are, they are your only weapon available as a novice. You shouldn't get used to them, as you are only a novice for one mission. At any time, you may use fists to knock out or incapacitate guards.

Assassin's Creed II
In Assassin's Creed II, the main character Ezio is more skilled in a fistfight. He can perform combos, as well as being able to counter other fist fighters. He may also Disarm those with weapons and use them against opponents, if he has learned the Disarm skill. The special attack while unarmed is to lean down and sweep some sand into the opponent's eyes, opening the weaker enemies to an instant kill. Similarly, if your opponent has sufficiently low health, it is possible to perform an instant kill if you can get behind them.

Fists also become a more viable weapon when the Metal Cestus, a hard steel hand-guard that strengthens the attack of the fists, becomes available for purchase from Blacksmiths.

You can earn yourself the achievement/trophy, Messer Sandman, which is worth 10G or a Bronze trophy, by using the sand throwing move on 4 guards at once.

Players should be aware that picking up a body will cause the game to switch automatically back to Ezio's fists. Also, while carrying a body, guards will automatically attack you on sight regardless of Notoriety. Also, if you successfully disarm a guard and keep using his weapon after you kill him, the icon at the bottom left hand of the screen will be the fist icon.

Despite seemingly lethal actions, (like snapping or stomping on a hostile enemy's neck) the person will appear to be in a subdued state and will not be listed as a kill, enabling Ezio to "kill" civilians. However, during assassinations, these lethal actions do count as a kill to the assassination target. In addition, picking up someone in a subdued state and dropping them at least one story will stop their writhing around and they will be no different than a corpse. However, you will still not be penalised for doing it to a civilian.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, the player still has the ability to disarm their opponents but they have a new ability to simply kill them in one swift move by using their fists. The player can walk up to a guard and press X or Square while the player is using their fists and Ezio will perform a move, he may kick the guard's legs and then pull his neck over his shoulder; therefore killing him. This and many other moves besides are always available throughout the game. Also as in Assassin's Creed II the player will defeat their opponent by performing a series of combos.
Without the Metal Cestus upgrade, Ezio's fists have 1 damage, 5 speed, and 1 counter. The Metal Cestus boosts the damage stat to 3.

The Spear and Halberd appear as usable weapons in Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, but you can only acquire it by disarming a guard. as Shops do not have them for sale. Spears and Halberds in the game classify as long weapons due to their length. Once combat is over, or if you sprint away, Ezio will discard the new weapon; since whether the weapon is intact or broken, Ezio would not have enough inventory space to safely keep it. Also, a Spear or Halberd would be too difficult to carry while moving freely across streets and rooftops. The length of the shaft keeps enemies at bay and makes it very difficult to evade. Dodging maneuvers against Halberdiers frequently fail to make sufficient distance, while blocks are overpowered. Long weapons can only be countered by Long or Heavy weapons, with the Hidden Blade being an exception as it counters any weapon, although the timing involved makes the maneuver more difficult and risky. Also, if you are equipped with your pistol or poison blade, Ezio will automatically counter with his hidden blade. Maximum Combo length for Long weapon is 3 hits. The Long weapon is usually equipped by the Seekers, though some Brutes have also been seen wielding a Spear or Halberd as well. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood it is shown that you can throw a spear at long distances as well as use it in close melee.

Special Technique
The Sweep Attack is another charged move that can be interrupted, but is one that can be unleashed at any time during the charge. The longer the Sweep is charged, the greater the arc it will affect. Acquired from Training, it is an attack that requires a long weapon. A brief hold of the Weapon Hand Button performs a quick, short Sweep. Keep it held, and Ezio will turn the Long shaft over his shoulder, changing stance in readiness to perform a long Sweep spin when released. Enemies in front of him will trip and fall to the ground, while those behind are knocked over by a blow to the head. Sweeping more than three times with the same long weapon will cause it to break. There is an achievement that requires this skill.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the sweep technique has been changed, as when Ezio performs a sweep attack, all guards within range will have their throats slit by the sharp end of the weapon.

There is also another special technique in which the player can throw the spear in a javelin like manner at a distant enemy. When the player looks at the enemy and they can hold X or square and then when they release the button, Ezio then throws the spear at the enemy and this will immediately kill them

Breakability
It is possible to block a heavy weapon's smash attack with a Long weapon. The defender will avoid all damage, but the parrying weapon will shatter in two (bottom of spear/halberd in left hand, top of spearhead/halberd with spearhead in right hand). When a Long weapon breaks, the owner may continue to wield the remaining half as if it were a bladed (or blunt, depending on which half) medium weapon. An individual half can be kept in an empty primary weapon slot for later use, however it will vanish if you save and reload. You may also counter as soon as the weapon is broken, which stabs both pieces into the attacker.

Trivia
* Spears and Halberds have the longest reach out of any other melee weapons in Assassin's Creed II, making them very effective at close quarters.
* Out of the many weapons in the Italian Guard's arsenal in Assassin's Creed II, the Long weapons seem to be the rarest melee weapons. However, this is not the case in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
* Seekers can more commonly be found wielding the Spear than the Halberd.
* Long Weapons are one of the two weapon types used by mercenaries.
* Long Weapons are more challenging to counter than any other weapon in Assassin's Creed II.
* The Papal Staff (aside from the Sword of Altaïr) is the only weapon to have the Damage, Speed, and Deflect stats maxed out.
* It is possible to wield the Papal Staff for a little while; it involves either poisoning Rodrigo Borgia, or taking a Heavy Weapon from a Brute outside and performing the Heavy Weapon Disarm on him.
* The achievement/trophy "Sweeper" can be earned by sweeping five guards at once using a long weapon.
* In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ezio is able to impale guards by throwing the spear at them.
* Also in Brotherhood, using the technique of Assassin's Creed II that once allowed you to trip enemies will instead slit the throats or faces of all guards around you.

The armored car (often rendered simply as Tank) was a war machine developed by Leonardo da Vinci, usable by Ezio Auditore in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. A precursor to the modern tank, Leonardo's armored car invention was capable of moving in any direction and was equipped with a large number of weapons. It was designed to intimidate and scatter an opposing army. Da Vinci's vehicle has a number of light cannons arranged on a circular platform with wheels that allow for 360-degree range. The platform is covered by a large protected cover reinforced with metal plates, which are slanted to better deflect enemy fire. There is a sighting turret on top to coordinate the firing of cannons and steering of the vehicle. The machine also requires three people to use it, these include the mercenaries that Ezio rescued.

In 1503, Leonardo was forced to create designs for the armored car by Cesare Borgia and he subsequently tasked Ezio Auditore with finding the plans and destroying them. Ezio then traveled to Monte Circeo, southeast of Rome. Ezio had to follow an engineer without being detected; once the engineer entered the factory where the weapons were being produced, Ezio found a secret entrance to the factory and interrogated the engineer, who told Ezio of the armored car design copies and three captured Mercenaries. Ezio made his way through the factory until he found the plans, burned them, then found the captured Mercenaries. Ezio killed the guards patrolling the area and freed the Mercenaries. They are then ambushed by a larger group of guards, which Ezio and the Mercenaries easily overpower, then afterwords he finds the armored car. Ezio uses the machine to his advantage, by destroying the factory and the weapons being produced. After Ezio's victory in Monte Circeo he decided to destroy the deadly war machine, as it was far to dangerous to keep, in case the Templar's happened to find and retake the tank.

Trivia
*Though the armored car appears in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Leonardo was historically never able to build the war machine, for it had a number of flaws that would prevent it from operating correctly.
*To get 100% Synchronization for this mission Ezio must first sneak into the factory without alerting the guards then operate the Tank without getting hit.
*The tank is one of the more valuable war machines as it was being produced at a fast rate with Ezio coming across and ultimately destroying four of these machines while blowing up the the production factory.
