The '''Colonial Rite''' was one of a number of autonomous factions, in operation during the mid 18th century, that made up the [[Templars|Templar Order]]. In order to enlist the aid of the [[Kanien'kehá:ka]], whom it was believed knew the location of the Precursor site, Haytham willingly agreed to side with them in their ambush of Braddock's forces.

In 1781, Ratonhnhaké:ton, seeking out Charles Lee, confronted his father in the Templar stronghold at [[Fort George]], [[New York]]. After a brutal fight, the Templar Grand Master was killed, and Charles Lee rose to the position in his stead.

At least three months later, in 1782, a funeral was held for Kenway and presided over by Charles Lee was interrupted by the arrival of Ratonhnhaké:ton. Charles had the Assassin detained, before making preparations to travel to Boston. Eventually, the Assassin caught up with Lee once more, and after a rugged pursuit, tracked down and killed him.

Birch met Haytham Kenway in 1733 on his eighth birthday, when Birch accompanied the Kenway family on a trip to {{Wiki|White's|White's Chocolate House}} on Chesterfield Street. On the way back, the group was attacked by a mugger, who attempted to steal [[Tessa Kenway]]'s necklace.<ref name="Forsaken"/>

Birch threatened to kill the man, but was dissuaded by Edward. The two men smiled after putting aside their disagreement. Over the following two years, Birch became a frequent visitor to the Kenway household, and was deemed a suitable match for Jennifer, although she disliked him.<ref name="Forsaken"/>

Birch also sent [[mercenaries]] from [[Edward Braddock]]'s regiment to blackmail [[Jack Digweed]], Edward Kenway's {{Wiki|Valet|gentleman's gentleman}}, into revealing the location of the journal, but he did not know where it was. Afterwards, Birch had a conversation with Haytham about his sword training, and learned that his father kept his steel sword in a secret compartment in the games room, indicating the journal's location.<ref name="Forsaken"/>

Jennifer soon discovered Birch was a Templar, and informed her father, leading to a row in his office. Birch tried to threaten Edward into giving him the journal, but he refused. A day or so later, Birch sent his mercenaries to attack the Kenway Manor, who killed Edward, kidnapped Jennifer and stole his journal. Birch arrived, ensuring Edward's killer would not do the same to Haytham, and they escaped the household as it was set on fire.<ref name="Forsaken"/>

Shortly before Edward's funeral, Birch was appointed the family councilor and Haytham's guardian. He had Jennifer sold to [[Turkey|Turkish]] [[Slavery|slavers]], and then told Haytham he would be coming with him to [[Europe]] to "search" for her. In 1747, Birch sent Haytham to retrieve Edward's journal from [[Juan Vedomir]], a Templar who was meant to be decoding the journal, but had begun collaborating with the Assassins. When Haytham met him in [[Prague]], Birch informed him that Tessa had died. After attending her memorial, Haytham discovered Digweed was living in west [[Germany]]. Birch traveled with him to find Digweed, but sent two of Braddock's mercenaries to reach him before he could reveal the truth to Haytham.<ref name="Forsaken"/>

As Haytham reached Digweed's location, he saw one of the mercenaries about to slit Digweed's throat. Chasing him into the forest, Birch took the opportunity to silence Digweed permanently. However, before Haytham killed the mercenary, he learned that his father was an Assassin who was killed for one of his possessions, and that the mercenary served in the [[British Army]] under Braddock, rousing Haytham's suspicions. After an argument, Haytham rode to chase the other mercenary, whom he had seen riding back to Braddock's regiment in the [[Netherlands|Dutch Republic]].<ref name="Forsaken"/>

Birch then engaged in a struggle with Jennifer, before she eventually killed him by throwing him into a sword that Haytham had planted in a door.<ref name="Forsaken"/>

Birch was a fanatic obsessed with gaining the power of the First Civilization by any means necessary, while masking it beneath the veneer of a chivalrous Knight Templar to indoctrinate Haytham.

An associate of [[Lorenzo de' Medici]], Jacopo had nothing against the ruler of Florence personally, so he commissioned four Templar assassins to murder Lorenzo and resolve the situation for him in 1478.

In 1478, Jacopo met with fellow Templar conspirators Francesco and Vieri de' Pazzi, alongside the [[Grand Master]] of the Templar Order, [[Rodrigo Borgia]], within [[San Gimignano]]. The group discussed the details of their plot to take over Florence, and Jacopo was given the responsibility of calming the Florentine [[Civilians|citizens]] once the deed was done.

While the [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze|Ezio Auditore]] had infiltrated San Gimignano alongside his [[Mario Auditore|uncle]] and his [[mercenaries]], a Templar meeting was soon concluded and the group took the Templar pledge, before they departed from the city, aside for Vieri, who remained behind. From there, Vieri was subsequently killed by Ezio, who had [[Eavesdropping|eavesdropped]] on the meeting, after his forces had overwhelmed Vieri's [[guards]].

Later that same year, Jacopo convened with Templar loyalists inside the catacombs beneath [[Basilica di Santa Maria Novella|Santa Maria Novella]], with the meeting once again being conducted by Rodrigo. During it, Jacopo vocalized his concerns regarding the underestimated capabilities of their enemies, however, it was swiftly brushed aside by Francesco, who gave Rodrigo his word that the operation would succeed.

The following morning, once Francesco and the other conspirators had attacked the Medici at the [[Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore|Duomo]], Jacopo rallied Pazzi supporters in front of the [[Palazzo della Signoria]], chanting for liberty.

However, to Jacopo's astonishment, Francesco's body was flung over the front face of the Palazzo during the rally, while [[House of Medici|Medici]] supporters cheered from above, on the roof of the building. Paranoid, Jacopo immediately fled the city on [[Horses|horseback]], seeking sanctuary in San Gimignano.

Upon fleeing Florence, Jacopo took refuge in San Gimignano along with his co-conspirators [[Bernardo Baroncelli]], [[Stefano da Bagnone]], [[Francesco Salviati]], and [[Antonio Maffei]]. Maintaining a vast range of resources, Jacopo concealed himself well within the city; however, his co-conspirators lacked his assets, and were ultimately hunted down and assassinated by Ezio Auditore. Through these assassinations, Ezio ascertained the location of another Templar gathering that Jacopo was preparing to attend.

In 1480, Ezio used that information to locate Jacopo in front of a church within the city. Jacopo traveled to an [[Antico Teatro Romano|ancient Roman theater]], while the Assassin tailed behind. Eventually arriving at the meeting, Ezio remained towards the back of the theater and observed as Jacopo met with Rodrigo and [[Emilio Barbarigo]], a formidable [[Venice|Venetian]] merchant and Templar.

Tentative, Jacopo attempted to convey an explanation regarding their failure in Florence, claiming Francesco had acted rash and impulsively. Despite his attempts though, Rodrigo disregarded Jacopo's words and stabbed him in the stomach with a [[stiletto]]. Observing the wound with a petrified look, Jacopo pleaded for his life to Emilio.

Remorselessly though, Emilio shoved Jacopo to the ground, to which Rodrigo brandished his blade and thrust it through Jacopo's neck, leaving him to perish. Turning away from Jacopo's dying figure, Rodrigo called on his men to capture and kill Ezio, as they were aware of his presence, before departing from the theater with Emilio.

Despite opposition, Ezio broke free of his hold and vanquished the [[guards]], before the Assassin made his way to the stage, where he ended Jacopo's suffering using his [[Hidden Blade]].

As a member of the Templar Order and a conspirator against the Medici, Jacopo was pragmatic in his planning. He was not conceited and was practical when he spoke of his enemies, reminding Francesco to view the Assassins as a viable threat after Vieri's assassination. He also was rational when he fled to San Gimignano, and chose to remain hidden until he needed to attend the meeting in the countryside.

Although Jacopo exhibited sensible behavior, his conduct was often regarded as cowardice by his fellow Templars, as well as the Medici. However, upon being condemned as a coward by Emilio, Jacopo immediately began arguing with the Venetian merchant, blaming him for their failure in Florence.

Jacopo was also an apologetic man, who respected his superiors, despite occasionally letting his behavior get out of hand. He spoke softly and was shy towards Rodrigo, remaining loyal and obedient to the Grand Master even on his deathbed, telling Rodrigo he could fix the fiasco in Florence.

*Historically, Jacopo was hurled through a window by an enraged Florentine mob after the failed Pazzi conspiracy. He was then dragged nude through the streets, and then flung into the [[Arno]].
*Jacopo was voiced by [[Arthur Grosser]], who also portrayed Pope [[Sixtus IV]] in ''[[Assassin's Creed: Lineage]]''.
*Jacopo was the only character seen riding a horse in the city of Florence, and the only non-player character to ride a horse in ''Assassin's Creed II'', except for [[Agile guards]] during the "[[Romagna Holiday]]" memory.
*Jacopo was the only assassination target in ''Assassin's Creed II'' who did not say anything in the [[Memory Corridor]].
