The Agile guards, or simply Agiles, were lightly-armored, quick moving guards. They were one of the few types capable of outrunning Assassins, and were also skilled free runners.

They more commonly fled to alert nearby guards, rather than face an enemy directly. During pursuits alongside other guards, Agiles would usually catch up to a target first, and injure them with the short blades they wielded.

Combat
Agiles' attacks were neither powerful nor particularly damaging. Instead, they compensated with their speed, and their ability to dodge most enemy attacks. This rapid form of combat made them deadly in large groups.

The Assassin Ezio Auditore could most easily defeat them with patience, by either taunting them or waiting for them to attack, then countering. Roman Agiles were skilled enough to only be defeated in this manner, or during a kill streak.

Alternatively, Agiles could be defeated with a chain of attacks, should they lower their arms and begin panting, indicating that they were tired. This tactic was explained to Ezio by the mercenary trainer in Monteriggioni.

During pursuits, Agiles could follow a target easily across both streets and rooftops alike. They would often strike with a dagger as soon as they came within range, slowing the enemy down and allowing their allies to catch up.

Characteristics
Agiles were found in all cities, though more often in the larger ones. They were usually found near more powerful guards, such as Brutes and Seekers.

Certain Agiles possessed a shinier and more abstract armor design, distinguishing them as higher-ranked and more skilful than regular Agiles.
Trivia
*Checco and Ludovico Orsi, thieves (including La Volpe, Rosa and Ugo), the Cento Occhi, Followers of Romulus, and Hermeticists all possess freerun capabilities similar to Agiles.
*In Assassin's Creed II, Agiles were the first enemies to be seen on horseback, in the memory "Romagna Holiday."
*Girolamo Savonarola's lieutenant, the Captain Guard, set ambushes for his enemies using Archers and multiple Agile guards.
*During the Tank sequence in the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood memory "Hell on Wheels," Agiles can be seen using guns for the first time.
*Papal Guards and Janissaries also possess the same speed and agility as Agiles, despite being much taller and of heavier build.
*Obviously, when chasing thieves that were assigned to distract them, Agiles would run only as fast as most other guard types

Seekers were guards who, as their name suggested, would search through hiding places, on the suspicion that an Assassin had taken refuge within one.

They were slightly more heavily-armored than a standard guard, though less so than Brutes, and always carried long weapons such as spears and halberds.

Combat
Seekers were extremely intelligent, and would persistently search wagons, wells and piles of hay in an attempt to find hidden Assassins, whether or not they had previously seen one. They often traveled with other lower-ranked soldiers, usually as a pair, or in groups of four.

Upon engaging an enemy in battle, a Seeker could perform both normal and special attacks.

Normal attacks
The Seekers' normal attacks could be blocked using any weapon, however, they could not be countered with any sheath-able weapon or short blade.

Instead, they could only be countered lethally with a heavy weapons, another long weapon carried by Seekers themselves, or a Hidden Blade. The timing for the latter was rather difficult, however, due to the much smaller window of opportunity for the counter.

An attack could also be evaded, or countered through an empty-handed disarm, which could in turn be followed up with a lethal counter-attack with the Seeker's own weapon.

Special attacks
The Seeker's armed special attack, the Sweep, would knock a target to the ground by sweeping their feet out from under them. This did no damage, though it opened up the target to follow-up attacks as they lay on the ground.

The Sweep could not be countered, and needed to be either interrupted or dodged. A Seeker about to perform a Sweep would raise his weapon up and to his right at an approximately 45 degree angle.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze could mimic the Seekers, and performed his own Sweep attack. He used two varieties, a short-ranged and long-ranged one, with the latter reaching more enemies in a single swing.

Seekers could also throw sand at their enemies, blinding them momentarily and opening them up for an attack. Similarly to the Sweep, this could be evaded, but not countered.

Weaponry
{|border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="1" width="60%" style="text-align:center"

Trivia
Special seekers
*During the final fight with Rodrigo Borgia in the Capella Sistina, he attacks and defends much like a Seeker, though he has far more health. He may even use the Sweep attack characteristic to Seekers.
*The Farmer, a lieutenant of Girolamo Savonarola during the Bonfire of the Vanities, carries a pitchfork and fights like a Seeker.
*Certain Papal Guards from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood fight and are armed similarly to Seekers.
*The Byzantines Templar faction in Assassin's Creed: Revelations possess a variation on Seekers known as Varangians.

Appearance
*Seekers are much more common in Brotherhood than in Assassin's Creed II, with many leading patrol groups.
*In the mission "Infrequent Flier", in the cutscene where Ezio abandons a burning Flying Machine, you can see a Seeker and a Brute on the roof of the Palazzo Ducale. Strangely, these are the only two guards that cannot free-run or climb.
*In Florence, strangely, the only seekers you can find are Venetian Seekers.
*In the Brotherhood E3 Trailer, it is possible to see two Seekers using swords.

Combat
*A disarmed Seeker has roughly the same mobility as an Agile guard.
*When trying to escape a battle, Seekers will not be the only guards to search nearby hiding spots; all guards will search for you until you have become anonymous again.
*In Assassin's Creed II, if engaged in a fight with several other guards and a disarmed Seeker, the Seeker will (very rarely) grab Ezio from behind and hold him to allow the others to attack. In Brotherhood, this can be performed by any guard.
*In Brotherhood, unlike in Assassin's Creed II, Seekers cannot be counter killed with a heavy weapon unless while on a kill streak.
*In Assassin's Creed II, if you dodge a seeker's Sweep attack, Ezio will use his bracer to break the spear, and force the seeker to use one of the Improvised weapons.
*Seekers are totally immune to counter kill (except from the hidden blade) regardless of the weapon type they wielding
*Seekers counter attack immunity also applies in fist-fighting

The Papal Guard were elite soldiers commanded by the Papacy to serve and protect the pontiff during his tenure.

By 1503, the Papal guards protected Pope Alexander VI, and were led by the Pope's son and Captain General, Cesare Borgia. They were the precursors to the Swiss Guard.

Combat
The Papal guards were the most versatile and difficult guards in Rome, as they possessed the best of abilities held by all other types. They were skilled at both attack and defense, easily deflecting and countering many attacks.

Papal guards could dual-wield a wheel-lock firearm and a sword, making them deadly opponents at both short and long range. Other than swords, they could also be equipped with a variety of short, long, or heavy weapons, though these were rarer.

Much like Agiles, Papal guards were extremely fast, and were able to dodge most attacks. They were also difficult to escape from, and could catch up to even Assassins in a chase.

Papal guards often travelled in groups, and would employ teamwork strategies in battle. One could continuously fire at their target from a distance, while the others attacked from close range.

They could also throw sand, or grab enemies from behind, skills common to Seekers.

Trivia
;Design

*An early Papal guard design is seen in the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood cinematic trailer, and in Assassin's Creed: Ascendance. While the design for the guards themselves was changed before the game's release, Fabio Orsini wears the same armor as seen in the original concept, albeit without a helmet.
**Additionally, all the Papal guards seen are shown to have halberds. However, in-game, the only time they can be seen carrying halberds is during the arrest of Cesare.

;Appearances
*During Juan Borgia's party, a Papal guard is tasked to deliver the debt money of Egidio Troche. He speaks with a British accent and uses some German words.
*During the infiltration of the French headquarters in Rome, Ezio faces some Papal guards. Although the Borgia had already left the battle by this time, the guards are an indication of the close alliance between Cesare and Octavian de Valois.
*By Cesare Borgia's arrest in December 1503, the Borgia had lost all their power in Rome. However, when Cesare was arrested by Fabio Orsini and the Papal troops, they carried the emblem of the Borgia, despite being commanded by the new Pope Julius II.
*When Ezio infiltrates Belriguardo Castle in 1506, Papal guards bearing the Borgia emblem chase after him, even though Ezio is in Ferrara and the Borgia are no longer in power.
**A guard, however, does mention that the Pope lent the Duke some of his own troops, thus their presence is plausible.
*The Templars overseeing the War Machines' construction are always Papal guards.
*There is an Assassination Contract called "Graduation", where Ezio must kill four Papal guards training within the Castel Sant'Angelo.

*Papal guards are not commonly found in Rome, and appear more often in storyline missions. However, a group of four Papal guards is always stationed right outside the Castel Sant'Angelo in the Vaticano district, these guards will always get suspicious on the sight of Ezio even if he's outside of the "restricted zone".

;Combat
*Papal guards are not affected by Ezio's taunts.
*Cesare Borgia himself fights much like a Papal guard, and is able to dual-wield a pistol and sword as they do.
*The Papal guards are considerably stronger than Ezio and have a larger build, with all of them being at least a head taller than him.
*Smoke bombs have no effect on a Papal guard while engaged in combat, however, the bombs function as normal if the guard is taken by surprise.
*A Papal guard can only be disarmed if he carries a pistol.
