This was necessary to prevent Desmond's mind from being shattered by the [[bleeding effect]] completely, as well as to wake him up from his coma.<br /> <br /> Desmond eventually achieved this state by reliving all the remaining available memories of Ezio and Altaïr that he had not been through. [[Jupiter]], one of [[First Civilization|Those Who Came Before]] spoke to Desmond inside the nexus, revealing all that humanity and the First Civilization has faced up to that point, and may face in the future.<br /> <br /> After that, the Animus scheduled both Desmond and Subject 16 for deletion, though 16 jumped in front of Desmond and saved his life, however ending his own in the process.
