Philip Twopenny (1827 – 1868) was the Governor of the Bank of England alongside Thomas Newman Hunt, and a member of the British Rite of the Templar Order. In 1868, using the alias of Plutus, Twopenny made plans to rob the bank; however, he was killed by the Assassin Jacob Frye in the process.

Biography
Early life and rise to power
Born as the only child of an upper-class family, Twopenny lost his mother at an early age when she died in a boat accident. His father had profited immensely from the marriage and inherited his wife's shipping company, several sugar plantations in Mauritius and his father-in-law's connections. Twopenny was raised in luxury and attended the Charterhouse School and eventually University of Oxford.

He later served one term in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom as a Conservative Party (UK) and become a member of the Templar Order at some point. After Thomas Newman Hunt became the Governor of the Bank of England in 1867, he served this role jointly with Twopenny, who was recommended and supported by Templar Grand Master Crawford Starrick. The unusual arrangement meant that Twopenny ran the bank on a daily basis, while Hunt was paid off by the former's fortunes.

Bank robbery
Suspecting that a robbery was due to occur, having noticed a pattern from previous robberies, Sergeant Frederick Abberline of the Metropolitan Police Service enlisted the aid of the Jacob Frye, in order to stop the robbery and apprehend Twopenny.

Twopenny was assassinated by Jacob, and word of his death quickly spread throughout the press. This, coupled with the thefin the helt of the Bank's printing plates led to the near total collapse of the British economy, through inflation and mistrust of the currency.

Trivia
*Plutus, the pseudonym used by Twopenny, was the god of wealth in ancient Greek mythology.
*Twopenny's death is the subject of an era-appropriate folk song, called "The Tale of Twopenny", that was created for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. Similar "murder ballads" were made for Pearl Attaway and Maxwell Roth.
*Twopenny's year of birth given in the Helix database is 1827, making him only 41 when he died, though he appears much older.
