The Templar was successful in his mission, but was killed by the [[Master Assassin]] [[Thomas de Carneillon]] shortly after.<ref name="ACU"/>

*The advisor is one of three playable Templars in the series' main campaigns, the other two being [[Haytham Kenway]] and [[Shay Cormac]].
*It is highly irregular that the advisor's memories are available, as [[genetic memory]] stipulates that an ancestor's memories become unavailable upon the conception of their descendant's next in line. The only instance that Abstergo Industries could formulate and experience his genetic material through the [[Surrogate Initiative]], [[Data Dump Scanner]] or the Helix Navigator is through a direct sample, as the advisor is depicted to have been killed by Thomas de Carneillon and not bore an heir, or if so then those specific memories could not have been relived through their descendant due to the restriction listed above.
**Due in part to their motivation to use a proxy, as opposed to directly reliving the memories of Jacques de Molay, it also calls into question how Abstergo Industries could have obtained such a direct sample of the advisor's genetic material for them to modify. It may however stem from a desire to externally display the Templar Order as an afflicted party and gather sympathy while hiding their true motives, as has been [[Liberation|replicated previously]] before [[Erudito|unwanted outside intervention]], though the former currently remains ambiguous.

On 29 October 2013, Melanie inducted a [[Abstergo Entertainment research analyst|new employee]] into the company, and introduced them to the company's CCO, [[Olivier Garneau]]. Afterwards, Melanie showed the employee to their Animus station and left them to explore [[Edward Kenway]]'s [[Genetic memory|genetic memories]].<ref name="AC4">''[[Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag]]''</ref>

Not long after this, Olivier went missing while en-route to a shareholder's meeting with [[Laetitia England]] at [[Abstergo Industries]], and Melanie was forced to assume control in his stead. Simultaneously, Melanie found herself dealing with a series of hacks across the company's servers, security systems, computers, and [[Animus#Animus Omega|Animi]]. All the evidence seemed to suggest that the recently inducted employee was responsible.<ref name="AC4"/>

Eventually, the hacks escalated to such a level of severity, that Melanie was forced to isolate several members of the Sample 17 team in the [[Bunker]], a basement level of the [[Montreal]] facility, that would allow the researchers to continue their work without compromising the rest of the facility.<ref name="AC4"/>

Eventually, the decision was made to detain the suspected hacker, and Melanie, escorted by armed security, made her way to the analyst's room. Inside, they saw [[John Standish]] from IT trying to poison their suspect, but he was shot and killed during the attempt.<ref name="AC4"/>

Melanie later apologized for suspecting the analyst, reasoning that John had been solely responsible for the hacks all along. She then rewarded the analyst with a sneak-peek of the trailer for the company's latest product, the ''[[Pirates of Nightmares]]''.<ref name="AC4"/>

After the disappearance of Olivier Garneau, Melanie took over as Chief Creative Officer of Abstergo Entertainment office in [[Montreal]], and was inducted into the Templar Order. In 2014, a [[Helix research analyst|research analyst]] triggered a virus embedded in the memories of [[Shay Cormac]] stored in the [[Helix]], causing the entire facility to become compromised. In response, Melanie ordered an evacuation of the building, leaving [[Violet da Costa]] and [[Juhani Otso Berg]] in charge of restoring the systems and security.<ref name="ACRG">''[[Assassin's Creed: Rogue]]''</ref>

Melanie later called the research analyst to her office, telling them of Olivier's disappearance, and granting the analyst necessary security clearance to continue exploring Shay's genetic memories.<ref name="ACRG"/>

A fair, cheerful and amiable woman, Melanie was quite good-natured and genuinely cared for those working under her. She argued several times with Olivier Garneau about the pressure that Abstergo Industries had put on them, and their high priority in locating the Observatory. Following Garneau's disappearance, Melanie was reluctant to use the full extent of her powers to isolate the Project team, noting that although she had the contractual right to detain them indefinitely, she would rather not.<ref name="AC4"/>

She often became genuinely concerned when any of her employees were subjected to harm or duress, as demonstrated when the newly recruited research analyst ran into trouble in several instances.<ref name="AC4"/>

==Biography==
Lafrenière was born as the third son of a rich spice importer in 1730, and was destined to become a priest. He studied at the {{Wiki|College of Sorbonne}} and entered the seminary school in 1750. However, Lafrenière was forced to leave the seminary and take over the family business when his father and brothers died in a shipwreck off the coast of [[Mauritius]].

Lafrenière spent most of his income joining and founding various religious groups and secret societies. Around this time, he became a member of the Templar Order, serving as an advisor to Grand Master François de la Serre.

By the French Revolution, Lafrenière was living in hiding, presumably from his creditors. An ally of Élise de la Serre, he was erroneously killed by the [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Arno Dorian]] in the [[Cimetière des Innocents]] in [[Les Halles]], during a meeting between his faction of the conservatives and the Templars from other [[Europe]]an countries, while trying to gain support in order to oppose Germain and his plans.

===Middle Ages===
On 13 October 1307, the forces of King [[Philip IV of France|Philip the Fair]] led by [[Esquieu de Floyrac]], launched a surprise attack on the Temple, with the aim of capturing the Order's [[Grand Master]], [[Jacques de Molay]]. Faced with overwhelming odds, de Molay tasked his [[Jacques de Molay's advisor|advisor]] with hiding two relics in a vault beneath the Temple, a [[Swords of Eden|Sword of Eden]] and the ''[[Codex Pater Intellectus]]'' written by the Grand Master.

Unknown to the advisor however, [[Master Assassin]] [[Thomas de Carneillon]] used the assault in an attempt to obtain both artifacts. Eliminating the [[guards]] and taking both the sword and the book, de Carneillon was pursued through the fortress by de Molay's advisor, eventually facing his pursuer in combat. The Templar succeeded in recovering the artifacts from the Assassin, using the power of the Sword of Eden dropped by de Carneillon to incapacitate him, subsequently hiding the weapon and the book in the vault as instructed.

===French Revolution===
Four centuries later, [[François-Thomas Germain]], a [[Sages|Sage]] and Grand Master of the extremist faction within the Templar Order, experienced a vision which led him to de Molay's vault, and discovered both the sword and the book. Reading through the ''Codex Pater Intellectus'', Germain became obsessed with de Molay's ideals, and planned to recreate the Templar Order according to the vision written in the book. However, his radical ideas were not shared by all of the other members of the Order, which eventually led to Germain being exiled by the Grand Master [[François de la Serre]]. Germain subsequently gathered those sympathetic to his cause, orchestrating the murder of Grand Master de la Serre and the [[French Revolution]] to take control of the Order, and the people of [[France]] following the fall of aristocracy.

Following the end of monarchy, the Temple became a prison for the royal family, housing [[Louis XVI of France|King Louis XVI]], [[Marie Antoinette]] and [[Louis XVII of France|Louis XVII]]. In July 1794, Germain was confronted in the Temple's vault by the daughter of François de la Serre, [[Élise de la Serre|Élise]], and the Assassin [[Arno Dorian]], who both sought Germain for the death of de la Serre. Germain used the Sword of Eden to battle the pair, but was eventually defeated when the artifact shattered, releasing a shockwave which killed Élise and mortally wounded Germain himself. Arno carried Élise's body out of the Temple, leaving Germain's corpse behind.

In 1808, Arno returned to the Temple with [[Napoleon Bonaparte]], who decided to demolish the site. The pair entered the Temple's vault to recover Germain's remains, and buried them in the Parisian [[catacombs]] afterward.
