The Leap of Faith is an acrobatic move in which Altaïr, Ezio, or another Assassin dives from atop a high structure to land, unharmed, in a conveniently placed pile of hay (or other soft landing material in Assassin's Creed II). The Leap is performed by Free Running at a ledge under which is located the target that will break your fall. The Leap of Faith is used to descend from View Points, each of which always provides a suitable safe target for a Leap. However, it can be used to jump down from anywhere, if, of course, there is a safe target below.

Leaps of Faith prove useful for quick descents, and are commonly used after climbing View Points. The Leap of Faith is also handy in losing pursuers, as climbing to the top of a view point usually results in the pursuers to lose sight of the player. Then all he must do is perform a Leap of Faith and he will be at street level and hidden in the target that he landed on.

In Assassin's Creed II, Ezio can perform a Leap of Faith to dive into Haystacks. Hay has also been expanded into other piles of soft material, such as piles of leaves. You can also perform a Leap of Faith when you are in the location of where pigeons mingle. When Ezio joins the Assassin Order he performs a Leap of Faith as one of the requirements.

Trivia
*Near the beginning of the game, when Masyaf is attacked by Templars, three assassins display their devotion and faith by performing Leaps of Faith from a cliff. This is based on a real life incident involving the Hashshashin, in which their leader proclaimed that his followers were more devout than any, and would follow all commands he gave. As shown in the game, he ordered several men to jump from a cliff to their deaths, which they did. Unlike in the game, however, they died.
*There is actually nothing coincidental about the placement of the bales of hay, their locations are entirely intentional. During the game, it is explained that the bales of hay and the birds that denote the location of a View Point have been programmed into the memory by Lucy as a way to help out in the navigation of the memory.
**In addition to pigeons marking a spot to perform a Leap of Faith, in Assassin's Creed II there is a white mark on the edge where the pigeons are perched. This is likely because when you get near the pigeons, they fly away, meaning the location would otherwise no longer be marked, as what happens in the original game. The "mark" is actually hay from the hay bale below. The birds were using it to construct a nest before the incoming Assassin scared them off. Either that or it's dung.
*When being pursued by Ezio, Francesco de' Pazzi leaps off the Palazzo della Signoria into a haystack for a quick escape. This is the only known example for a non-Assassin committing a form of a Leap of Faith.
*To achieve the "High Dive" achievement/trophy you must perform a Leap of Faith from Giotto's Campanile in Florence.
*Like Altaïr, Ezio's shadow looks like an eagle while performing a leap of faith.
The Golden Mask is used to grant access to Marco Barbarigo's exclusive party during Carnevale. It is a storyline item that must be acquired in order to progress to the target assassination.

How to Obtain
Once Ezio completes the three carnival challenges and defeats the Templar Soldiers and Dante Moro in a rigged fight, he was supposed to receive the Golden Mask as the reward, but Silvio Barbarigo bribed the Carnival announcer to give the mask to Dante instead.

Ezio, Antonio and Sister Teodora plan on how to take the mask back. Ezio suggests killing Dante, but Antonio says to steal the mask from him using Sister Teodora's girls to distract him as killing Dante will surely cancel the party altogether.

Once you steal the mask, it goes into effect once you enter Marco Barbarigo's party, he must become hidden from the Templar guards under Dante while they look for the mask.

The Golden Mask is only used during this mission.

After becoming Master of the Order, Altaïr used the knowledge from within the Apple to construct a lightweight, yet unbreakable set of armor.

History
Unlike the robes Altaïr wore during the events of Assassin's Creed, this armor provides more protection against attacks and is dyed black/red. Due to its advanced design, it is more similar to the armor Giovanni and Ezio wear than Altaïr's original armor. The armor is seen in Assassin's Creed II.

Assassin's Creed II
Years later, Altaïr's armor was stored inside a vault below the Auditore Villa, locked behind bars which only open when all six seals from hidden Assassins' tombs are collected and placed on their respective statues. As each seal is placed, a bar (to which the placed seal corresponds) retracts into the wall. When all six seals are placed, the bars that block access to the Altaïr's armor retracts into the floor, granting access to the armor. Altaïr's armor is the most powerful armor in Assassin's Creed II. Since it cannot break, it doesn't need to be repaired, which saves the user a great deal of florins. Unfortunately, the armor cannot be dyed visibly when worn. In Altaïr's Codex Pages, he claims to have created a new metal which is incredibly strong whilst being light as a feather. In a contrast to other Asassin's robes, Altaïr's Armor is black, while Ezio and Altaïr originally wore white. The black color scheme can be attributed to the rank of Grandmaster of the Syrian Assassin's Sect, which Altaïr obtained after defeating Al Mualim. Once you've obtained it, it can be taken on and off in the Auditore Family Villa in the armor room. Altair's armor must be worn all at once, you can't mix it with other armor sets/types. It's important to note that while the armor is unbreakable, it is not a full body suit, which explains how Ezio can be damaged by wearing it.

It is unknown what happened to this armor after the events of Assassins Creed 2. It could be that Ezio was buried with the armor, or he may have resealed the armor and scattered the keys again after he retired from the "field". It could be that the Assassins of the present have it in safekeeping for Altair's descendant, or the Templars may have seized it at some point. In any case, the armors location during Desmond's time is not clear. But given the armor's unbreakable nature, if Desmond is ever able to find this armor set; he will be able to use it as bullet-proof armor.

Trivia
*According to a piece of concept art, it seems that the armor was intended to be an invention by Leonardo da Vinci before being a creation of Altaïr.
*While wearing the armor the hood is never down during cut-scenes where it would normally be down if wearing Giovanni's assassin robes.
*The cloak for Altaïr's Armor, in addition to being black, is much longer than the one Ezio would wear with the other armors, and made up of three layers. Each layer is longer than the one above it, and the longest, lower layer is segmented, which gives the whole piece a look resembling Eagle's Wings. The back of the lower layer is also split down the middle, making it behave much like Altaïr's cloak from the original game, where each side would move up and down as the back of Altaïr's legs pushed against them.
*It is interesting to note that the Chest Guard of Altaïr and Pauldrons of Altaïr somewhat resemble Roman Lorica segmentata. Also, the cape-pauldron seems to be composed of leather. Plus, the Vambraces of Altaïr resemble golden Missaglias and Guard Captains wear similar vambraces. The Greaves of Altaïr also bear a strong resemblance to leather.
*When you buy a new color for this suit, it will appear on the inside of the hood, but not the rest of the suit.
*The Robes that come with the armor look like a cross between Al Mualim's, Altair's and Giovanni's robes
*Altaïr's, Armor, unlike other armors in the game, can only be worn as a full set.
