I believe that she may actually be Desmond's ancestor and will get with Altair in blood lines. I know that sounds like fan matchmaking but if you think about it Blood lines is supposed to explain the blood links between Altair and his descendants and Maria is supposed to appear in blood lines and is hinted to have a big part in the story.
