Reginald Birch (1705 - 1757) was the Grand Master of the British Rite of the Templar Order, and a successful English businessman.

Operating primarily from the Templar headquarters in London, Birch was responsible for the recruitment and training of Haytham Kenway, who was the son of Birch's employer Edward Kenway, a prominent Assassin.

In 1754, Birch ordered Haytham to travel to British America to find a First Civilization storehouse after the retrieval of its key. This expedition led to the establishment of a strong Templar presence in British America, and later the United States.

Biography
Early life
Birch was born in England in 1705 to a London merchant. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his dealings at a young age, and by the time he had reached his mid-20s, Birch owned several merchant ships mainly involved with the shipment of tea to British America.

Birch met Haytham Kenway at a young age. In 1733, on Haytham's eighth birthday, Birch accompanied the Kenway family as they were walking home from a trip to White's on Chesterfield Street, when the group were attacked by a mugger.

Birch threatened to kill the man, whose attempt to rob Tessa Kenway of her necklace failed. However, he was dissuaded by Edward, who was infuriated at Birch's harsh vigilantism. At the time, Birch was a potential suitor to Haytham's half-sister, Jenny Kenway, as well as an associate of Edward and a frequent visitor of the family's home.

One such time, he had a discussion with a young Haytham, who unknowingly revealed the location of his father's most prized and hidden possessions. Haytham later heard his father and Birch arguing in loud voices, ending with Birch storming out of the office.

When the Kenway household was attacked, Birch arrived just in time to prevent one of the assailants from delivering a killing blow to Haytham, however, the attackers did manage to kill Edward, kidnap Jenny, and destroy the Kenway manor by setting it aflame. Birch then volunteered to train Haytham in Europe after the death of Edward, with Tessa's permission, where he personally inducted Haytham into the Templars and taught him of its functions.

Tenure as Grand Master
Go forth, Haytham – and bring honor to us all.

In 1754, Birch attended the musical The Beggar's Opera, by John Gay, in the Theatre Royal in London. Birch proclaimed his happiness at the play's revival, referring to it as Gay's "best work by far." Birch then ordered Haytham to obtain a "precursor" artifact from an attending patron and member of the Assassin Order, Miko.

After Haytham had retrieved the key to the undisclosed Grand Temple, Birch secured Haytham's passage to Boston for him to find the First Civilization storehouse and establish a permanent Templar presence in British America.

Death
Once Haytham discovered the true nature of Birch's involvement in the kidnapping of his half-sister and the murder of his father, the Templar stormed Birch's residence in France with Jenny and his close friend Jim Holden. Once inside the manor, Birch engaged in a struggle with Jenny, before she eventually killed him with a sword that Haytham had planted in a door.

TRIVIA
* Despite being a family friend of the Kenways, Shaun Hastings tells Desmond that Edward Kenway and Reginald were long time rivals.
Edward Braddock (January 1695 – 13 July 1755), also known as The Bulldog by his soldiers, was a member of the Templar Order and a General in the British Army.

Biography
Early life
At some point, Braddock became a soldier in the British Army and a member of the Templar Order, during which he became a close acquaintance and friend to Haytham Kenway. The pair would both go on to participate in the Siege of Bergen op Zoom (1747) in 1747. During Haytham and Braddock's retreat, they made their way to a small boat, where they were approached by a man and his family begging to join them for safe passage. While Haytham consented, Braddock callously refused to allow them on board, causing the man to become distraught and attempt to force his way to the boat. In response, Braddock murdered the man and his children.

Following this, Braddock and Haytham fought in several other campaigns, though Braddock became increasingly violent and cruel to the point that he ruthlessly killed civilians and his own allies alike, much to Haytham's shock and chagrin. As a result, Haytham and Braddock drifted apart, and Braddock became less concerned with serving the Templar Order, turning away from their ideals and goals.

Braddock eventually became a General in the British Army and was sent to the British colonies in America, where he became the Governor of over all thirteen of them. Among his troops, Braddock's reputation and blood-lust for violence earned him the nickname, The Bulldog.

French and Indian War
In 1754, Braddock was stationed in Boston, with Charles Lee serving under his command. Braddock noticed John Pitcairn's unauthorized presence in Boston and had him arrested and charged for desertion and treason. Haytham and Lee arrived, revealing that both Lee and Pitcairn were in Haytham's service under Templar orders. Despite this, Braddock reluctantly consented to give Lee to Haytham, but bitterly denied releasing Pitcairn and forced him to remain under his command.

In a plan to retrieve Pitcairn, Lee followed and pretended to be an angry citizen against the Redcoats, provoking Braddock into a chase by throwing horse manure on him. Lee lured Braddock and his men to a dead end, which allowed him, Haytham, and Pitcairn to attack and eliminate Braddock's patrol. Haytham spared Braddock before warning him that he would kill him in their next encounter, leaving Braddock humiliated and furious.

The Braddock Expedition
The French will leave or they will die!

As conflict and territorial disputes between the British and the French colonies escalated, Braddock was given command of two regiments and was assigned to retake Fort Duquesne from the French. In order to navigate through the frontier, Braddock enlisted George Washington, a volunteer from the Virginia Militia, as a guide.

In the winter of 1754, the French offered a truce, which Braddock refused. Instead, Braddock continued on his offensive, determined to defeat and drive the French from the land. While rallying his troops and supplies, Braddock attacked several Native American villages, driving the inhabitants out of their land. As a result, Braddock became an enemy of several Iroquois clans, whom Haytham would eventually join forces with in plan to murder Braddock.

Death
The expedition continued on until July of 1755, during which Braddock killed one of his own soldiers after accusing him of treasonous and insubordinate behavior. Braddock was then approached by Haytham, disguised as a British soldier, who held him at gunpoint. The expedition was then ambushed and attacked by Iroquois warriors, devastating and killing many Redcoats.

In the resulting chaos, Braddock attempted to flee on horseback while Haytham chased close behind. Washington briefly came to Braddock's defense, but was subdued by a Kanien'kehá:ka woman. Haytham then continued to pursue Braddock on foot, quickly catching up and impaling him with his Hidden Blade. During Braddock's final words, Haytham admitted to him that he had killed him out of necessity, but that some semblance of personal motivation compelled it as well. From there, Haytham departed, taking Braddock's Templar ring from his finger.

Braddock's body was later discovered by Washington, who proceeded to carry him away, eventually burying Braddock under a road in the Great Meadows, preventing the Native Americans and the French from finding and desecrating the body.

Personality
Braddock was originally described by Haytham as brave and bold, perhaps implying he was also a well respected and honorable man during their years as brothers in arms. However, Braddock changed into a definitively ruthless and violent man, driven by the belief that force was necessary to ensure resolution and success. His reliance on force resulted in indiscriminate killings of even civilians and his own allies.

Braddock was quick tempered and cruel; he applied strict discipline to the point of brutality against his own soldiers. As a result, Braddock maintained loyalty through fear and intimidation rather than through respect and heroism. His aggressive and violent tendencies resulted in contempt for non-British soldiers, for example, he displayed intense hatred for the French and even killed those who expressed opposite sentiments. Ultimately, Haytham gave up on the hope that Braddock could be redeemed and showed no remorse in killing his former ally and friend.

Final words
Majd Addin (unknown - 1191) was a Saracen, the regent of Jerusalem, and secretly a member of the Templar Order. He was the sixth individual to be assassinated by the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, and like his Templar brothers, his death was planned by Al Mualim. Majd Addin was located in Jerusalem's Poor District.

Biography
Rise to power
At some point in his life, not only did Majd Addin become a secret member of the Templar Order, but also became aware of the Apple of Eden and its capabilities. He and nine other individuals closely guarded the secrets and intended to use the Apple to create a new world.

Majd Addin believed that everyone should view the world in this way, and those that did not oblige to this were sentenced to death. He used fear and intimidation to keep the population of Jerusalem in check, often issuing strict and confusing edicts regarding the way people should conduct themselves. This way, he was slowly reversing Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn's long-standing policy of tolerance toward all races, religions, and creeds.

Mock trials were often held for those he perceived to be enemies of the city. In these, he would either frame them or exaggerate their crimes, in order to make sure the trials would always result in death as well as the public's disapproval of the person in question. This caused people of Jerusalem to call the trials "executions" instead. Through these executions, he silenced anyone who would oppose him, and struck fear into the hearts of people who considered an uprising.

He was known to speak with an authoritative edge and insisted that he knew what was best for the people of Jerusalem. However, Majd was a cruel man and his citizens knew he could not be trusted.

Death
Altaïr traveled to Jerusalem's Poor District, where he started his investigation of Majd Addin. He soon discovered that there was to be another execution, and that a group of citizens were planning to stand up against Majd Addin in order to save the son of their leader.

During the public execution, Majd judged an alleged prostitute, a thief, a gambler and a heretic. The heretic was in fact an Assassin, and Malik Al-Sayf had tasked Altaïr with killing Majd before the Assassin was executed. The citizens who had planned to stand up to Majd tried in vain to stop the execution, but they were quickly killed by the archers and other guards.

Majd began his speech about the prostitute, declaring that she had sold her body to several men. She defended herself by stating that she was only there because she had refused to lie with Addin. He then killed the woman, saying that even when she was only moments from her death, she still continued to lie.

The second victim was the gambler, who remarked that he had only played a game of chance. Majd told him that it was not sin that corrupted the city, but the gambler. Majd then killed him and moved on to his next victim.

The third victim was being accused of stealing the gain of others. To acquire support from the public, Majd convinced the crowd that everyone had been violated by his actions. The man tried to defend himself, saying that he had picked only one dinar which had fallen to the floor. However, Majd Addin rebuked that the crime would rise and begin to affect others more directly, after which he killed the man.

Before Majd could move on to the Assassin, Altaïr made his way to the stage and stabbed Majd with his Hidden Blade, allowing Malik's other Assassins to save their imprisoned brother.

During Majd's dying moments, he told Altaïr the reason for his evil deeds, commenting that, while he joined the Templars to help them take control of Jerusalem, in fact, he simply wanted the power and fear such a position granted. Afterwards, Altaïr smeared the feather he had brought with Addin's blood, and reported back to the Assassins' Bureau.

Majd Addin was later buried in a cemetery in Jerusalem, where both Saracen and Crusader soldiers joined together to pay their respects. Altaïr was also present, as he had discovered that his next target, Robert de Sable, would also be present. However, the funeral turned out to be an ambush as Robert had not planned to attend, knowing that the Assassin would strike, thus he sent his double instead.

Personality
Fear and intimidation get him what he wants.

Majd Addin was a power-hungry individual who thrived off of the fear that people had for him. It was this lust for power that led him to become a member of the Knights Templar, who offered him what he desired in exchange for his allegiance.

Addin often conducted executions because he felt that determining another man's fate gave him a god-like status. A very proficient speaker, Majd Addin could manipulate the crowd with his words, often making them blindly believe that the executions he carried out were for the good of the city.

Dying at the age of 54, Majd Addin did not claim that what he did was right, instead confessing that he did it not to help his brethren, but because he enjoyed it, as well as to gain power and fame, which he accomplished over time. However, this led to his downfall as he had allowed these factors to corrupt him.

Final words
*Altaïr: Your work here is finished.
*Majd: No, no! It had only just begun!
*Altaïr: Tell me, what's your part in all of this? Do you intend to defend yourself as the others have and explain away your evil deeds?
*Majd: The Brotherhood wanted the city. I wanted power. There was... an opportunity.
*Altaïr: An opportunity to murder innocents.
*Majd: Not so innocent. Dissident voices cut deep as steel. They disrupt order. In this, I do agree with the Brotherhood.
*Altaïr: You'd kill people simply for believing differently than you.
*Majd: Of course not! I killed them because I could, because it was fun! Do you know what it feels like, to determine another man's fate? And did you see the way the people cheered? The way they feared me? I was like a god! You'd have done the same if you could. Such power!
*Altaïr: Once perhaps. But then I learned what becomes of those who lift themselves above others.
*Majd: And what is that?
*Altaïr: Here, let me show you.
Altaïr stabbed Majd in the neck with his Hidden Blade, finishing him off.

Trivia
*Majd Addin ("glory of the faith") may be very loosely based on a man named Baha ad-Din ibn Shaddad ("splendor of the faith"), who was close to Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn and wrote a biography on the great Saracen military leader and sultan.
*In one of Altaïr's investigations, it was revealed that Majd Addin was once the scribe of the emir, wherein Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn was the Emir or Sultan at this time.
*Malik told Altaïr that Majd Addin had "declared himself Regent in Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn's absence." However, when eavesdropping on some civilians (particularly the father of one of those to be executed), it becomes clear that the people are under the impression that Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn himself had appointed Majd Addin as Regent.
*If allowed, Majd Addin would execute the Assassin in a far more brutal manner than what he would do to the other three. He would execute the first two with a simple slash of his sword, and impale the third, but when he got to the Assassin, Addin would impale him and then shift the blade around inside his body.
**If the other Assassin was executed, Altaïr would slowly lose synchronization bars until he assassinated Majd Addin, or desynchronizes.
*Majd Addin was only one of three targets who required multiple stabs of the Hidden Blade to die, once during gameplay, and another in the Memory Corridor. The other two were Checco Orsi, in Assassin's Creed II, Shahkulu in Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Edward Braddock in Assassin's Creed III .

Checco Orsi (1458 - 1488) was a member of the Orsi family of Forlì, and brother to Ludovico. Bored with their life in the countryside, the two started a loan-sharking business, and murdered any who failed to pay their debts.

Biography
Working for Caterina
The brothers were hired by Caterina Sforza to kill her own husband, Girolamo Riario, after she found out that he was a Templar. Riario, who was already in debt to the Orsi brothers, was killed by them during a meal.
Battle of Forlì and Death
Later on, Rodrigo Borgia hired them to kill Caterina and obtain the map Riario had made of the Codex pages. The Orsi agreed, and laid siege to the city of Forlì. In the process, they captured two of Caterina's children, Bianca and Ottaviano, and found out that Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who was in possession of the Apple of Eden, was involved as well.

Using the two as a distraction for Ezio, Checco attacked the Rocca di Ravaldino (the ward in which Caterina was holding the Apple) after the Assassin had left to rescue the children. Caterina and Niccolò Machiavelli's resistance was not enough to protect the Piece of Eden, and Checco claimed it for himself.

Ezio chased after Checco as he fled to deliver the Apple to Rodrigo Borgia, and managed to intercept and assassinate him. However, with his dying breath, Checco stabbed Ezio in the right side of the stomach.

Final words
*Checco: So... you have your prize again.
(Ezio retrieves the Piece of Eden.)
*Ezio: Was it worth it? So much bloodshed?
*Checco: A prize of such value, it will not remain yours for long.
*Ezio: We shall see.
(Ezio stabs Checco through the throat with the Hidden Blade, killing him.)
*Ezio: Che miserie nascono dall'avidità. (What wretched things are born of greed.) Requiescat in pace. (Rest in peace.)

Trivia
*Checco is one of only four assassination targets in the Assassin's Creed series to be stabbed with the Hidden Blade while in the Animus scene; the other targets being Majd Addin in Assassin's Creed, Shahkulu in Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Edward Braddock in Assassin's Creed III.
*The mission in which you assassinate Checco Orsi is named "Checcomate," a reference to the popular board game Chess. "Checkmate" is a phrase you may say when you are at the point of killing or taking the other player's King, and thus winning the game.
*When pursuing Checco, he will always run faster than Ezio, thus must be chased down on horseback, or shot with the Hidden Gun.
*Checco Orsi shares Francesco de' Pazzi and Cesare Borgia's voice actor, Andreas Apergis.
*In Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, a horse and carriage chase ensues between Checco and Ezio, while in game, Checco runs away from Ezio on foot.
