Masun is a man who preaches to the village in Altaïr's first assignment: to find the traitor who helped open the gates to Masyaf for Templars. During the first encounter, Masun appears to be a madman. He openly admits that he works for the Templars in his confession to Altaïr and tells him that he should work for them, too. During the encounter subsequent to the completion of the game, Masun talks about the Templars' promise of a "new world where all men are equal." He also says that Al Mualim is a madman because he opposes this idea.

Masun and another Assassin named Jamal were the traitors who let the Templars in to Masyaf with the help of the basket-weaver in the village. The basket-weaver delivered letters for Jamal and Masun. Altaïr pick-pockets one of the letters in "The Traitor" memory. Al Mualim kills Masun, who is unrepentant. Afterwards, Al Mualim says he will speak with Jamal and decide if he is simply misguided and can be saved, or if Jamal's will has been corrupted by the Templars' propaganda. It was originally an assassination mission to kill Jamal, but instead he was added as an easter egg in the kingdom, just outside Masyaf. He can only be identified through Eagle Vision.
Trivia
*Masun is the only person who Altaïr did not kill after an interrogation. All other people who Altaïr interrogated were killed by hidden blade

*Masun appears like some of the civillians in Jerusalem or Damascus
*You can see Masun again after you bring him to Al Mualim while going down Masyaf you will see him walking and you can kill him to but will not respawn again until memory is repeated<br />
