England was a country in western Europe during the lifetimes of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, however by Modern Times it would be a constituent of the United Kingdom. Its capital city is London.

History
King Henry VII
Even though King Henry VII ruled England without losing any of his power, the Assassins feared that he might become corrupted by the Templars and decided to investigate. They discovered that the king had already killed two Templar conspirators that wanted to claim the throne, Lambert Simnel and Perkin Warbeck, and that both of them had a co-conspirator: Margaret of York.
The Assassins assured the king that Margaret would die a "natural" death soon and found it surprisingly easy to infiltrate her house and poison her belongings.

After the death of Margaret, the other conspirators fled to smaller villages and started rallying the civilians there to rise up against their king. The Assassins weren't interested in stopping the civilians, but they did not want the Templars to lead them, so they killed all but one. The only survivor shared valuable information with the Templars, and they discovered the uprising was just a distraction and that the Templars had invaded the Star Chamber, England's secret high court.

They consulted with the king and asked if he knew anyone who he was suspicious off, but the king told them to cease the investigation. The Assassins then started bribing the court and heard some vague rumours, which eventually led them to a meeting between Borgia ambassadors and members of the Star Chamber. The Assassins quickly dealt with them and reported to the king, who promised the Assassins a seat in the Star Chamber.

Mary and Elizabeth
In 1547, Mary I of England became queen, and soon it became clear that she was either a Templar, or closely allied with them. She wanted to restore England to Roman Catholicism, and in the process she had almost 300 religious dissenters burned at the stake. The Assassins monitored her for a while before they finally assassinated her on the 17th of November in 1558.

After Mary, her half-sister Elizabeth I of England became the queen and she undid the damage Mary I had caused to England. During her reign, she had an Apple of Eden in her possession. She remained the queen until her death in 1603.

Civil war
Around 1651, the English Civil War had started between <u>Charles II of England</u> and Oliver Cromwell. Charles wanted to restore his family name and take the throne back for himself, while Cromwell wished for parliament to be in charge. Charles II lost the Battle at Worchester in 1651 and was forced into exile in France.

During his time in France, Cromwell became Lord Protector and was in charge of the country, until Charles II was finally restored to the throne on 29 May 1660, his 30th birthday, with the help of General George Monck.

Hermeticists
In the late nineteenth century, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was founded in London, led by William Robert Woodman, William Wynn Westcott and Samuel Liddell Mathers.

The organization was closely tied to the occult, which was frowned upon by the society, and was thus forced to stay secret. However, due to tensions and a struggle for power, the Order soon started to decline, until it eventually fell apart.

Modern Times
The United Kingdom was involved in the second World War, a Templar plot to create their New World Order. The Prime Minister at this time, Winston Churchill, was secretly a Templar as well and secretly worked with the man that was supposed to be his greatest enemy, Adolf Hitler.

From 1979 to 1990, Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and she too was secretly a Templar. During her reign, she installed Boris Yeltsin, a fellow Templar, as Russia's new president.
The Apprentices, also referred to as Assassin recruits, were formerly citizens saved by Ezio Auditore from the rough streets of Rome, during the war against the Templars.

They subsequently devoted themselves to learning the ways of the Assassins Guild, motivated by their drive for revenge against the Borgia for corrupting their beautiful city, and for harassing them on a daily basis.

Operating out of the Tiber Island headquarters, the apprentices were often sent on contract missions across Europe and Asia, in order to improve their skills, combat experience and aid the Assassin cause. When not on assignments outside of Rome, the apprentices would support the efforts of Ezio and his allies, providing reinforcement during Ezio's own missions.

In Constantinople, Ezio was able to recruit apprentices for the Turkish Assassin Guild, in a similar manner as he had done in Rome a few years previously. Some recruits were citizens that Ezio helped out by completing certain tasks, while others were rescued from the abuses of Byzantine guards. Once recruited, Ezio could send the recruits out on contract missions in the Mediterranean, eroding Templar influence in key cities and eventually retaking these cities for the Assassins. Ezio could also assign up to five recruits to be stationed at a reclaimed city, helping the Assassins maintain control and protecting the city from the Templar forces.

Recruitment
Realizing the efforts of the people of Rome to resist the Borgia, and that he would need an army of loyal Assassins to combat the armies of Cesare Borgia, Ezio traveled throughout the city, assisting the citizens wherever and whenever he could. He found many either being terrorized by or fighting against the city guards, and rescued them by killing the guards.

Upon doing so, he would offer each the chance to stand with him in his Brotherhood, and should they accept, he would send them to Niccolò Machiavelli to officially become an Assassin recruit.

The Brotherhood operated with multiple apprentices at a time, male or female, whom were instructed in combat, free running, pickpocketing, blending and other such skills.

In Constantinople, some citizens required that certain tasks be completed before they would join the Brotherhood. Some citizens required that Ezio demonstrate his speed and prowess in a race or pickpocketing challenge, while another sought out a group of Byzantine Templars after her shop was destroyed.

Mobilization
During his own missions, Ezio was able to have up to six apprentices support him. They would commonly operate in pairs or alone, and were often called upon to perform Arrow Storms (wherein they would fire arrows upon any target from above), to engage in direct combat with an enemy, or to perform assassinations. Each time, Ezio would signal the apprentices to strike by raising his arm and clenching his fist.

When operating without their mentor, the apprentices would move in teams, led by a single Assassin appointed by Ezio. Together, they would complete missions across Italy (such as Rome, Florence, and Venice) as well as the rest of Europe and beyond (including Constantinople, Lisbon, Barcelona, Moscow, Paris, London, Cologne, Vienna and Calicut).

Though they would not always survive these missions, the apprentices would, when successful, return with greater skills and experience, as well as money and items that they had obtained during their travels.

Likewise, while in Constantinople, Ezio could send his recruits out to cities in the Mediterranean (including Alexandria, Algiers, Athens, Bursa, Damascus, Genoa, Jerusalem, Lisbon, Madrid, Marseille, Rhodes, Tripoli, and Tunis) to complete contracts. At first, the cities were controlled by Templars; only by sending Assassins into the city could the Brotherhood erode Templar influence and eventually retake the city for the Assassins. Once reclaimed, Ezio could channel some of his income into these cities to improve their infrastructure, which in turn provided him with additional money and bomb supplies. Assassins stationed at reclaimed cities would also receive extra training.

Equipment and skills
Apprentices were trained in a wide variety of skills and weaponry, including short blades, swords, heavy weapons, long weapons, throwing knives, crossbows, poisons, guns, explosives, and, of course, the hidden blade. They were also capable horsemen, and were able to do battle from horseback.

Their armor and weaponry could be customized however they chose, with each allowed to decide whether they would specialize in attack, defense, or both.

Apprentices were also given trainee robes to wear to show their affiliation to the Order. Although these were all identical, standard white robes, they were permitted to dye them a variety of colors. Once inducted into the Order as full Assassins, they were given white Assassin's robes, similar to that of Ezio's.

Promotion
Initiation into the Assassin Order
Apprentices started at the bottom of the Order, at the Recluta (Recruit) rank. As they gained experience and advanced in their skills, they would progress through several titles, before being granted the Assassino rank.

Upon completing their training, the apprentice was allowed to formally join the Assassin Order as a full-fledged Assassin. An induction ceremony would be held within the Tiber Island headquarters, where, as per tradition, the apprentice's left ring finger would be branded, and they would perform a Leap of Faith from the building's roof.

Though they did not gain the dual hidden blades upon promotion (which were reserved only for Master Assassins), they were instead given a certain sword identical to those used by the Masyaf Assassins of old, including Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Trivia
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
;Development
* Gabe Graziani, the Community Developer for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, once stated that a special cutscene would a occur when an Assassin died. Although there is no such cut scene, Ezio may approach and close the eyes of any fallen Assassins as a gesture of honor.
* It was also stated by developers that the player could pick a single Assassin recruit to be a "right-hand Assassin." However, this action is not present in any form in the game.
* In-game, apprentices attack alone or in pairs. In the Rome demo, however, they came in groups of five.

;Guild Management
* The names of each apprentice are randomly generated from a set list of first names and last names.
* Each apprentice's appearance is randomized. However, their gender is dependent on the location of the map from which they are recruited.
* When managing Assassins for an Assassination contract, even when the odds of success are 100%, sometimes the mission can still be failed, and you may lose the Assassin(s) used for that contract.
* When viewing the apprentice menu, if any are currently performing a contract mission, they may appear pale, blonde, or have incorrect eye color.
* Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy includes several memories that correspond to the missions you are able to send apprentices on, detailing their experiences while they are away.
* An apprentice, Vitellozzo Vitelli, has the same name of an Italian condottiero, who was also a friend of Bartolomeo d'Alviano. On December 31, 1502, he was killed by Micheletto Corella.
* When managing Contracts in the Tiber Island hideout, or via Pigeon Coops, the map portrays 21st Century Europe, as seen by the political boundaries of the countries.

;Equipment
* At Rank 5, the Recruit will gain the pistol; however, it is much weaker than Ezio's, taking 3 to 4 shots to kill a guard.
* Upon reaching Assassino rank, they receive a crossbow, but will not use it. The only time it is implied that they use the crossbow is during an Arrow Storm; however even low-ranking recruits can still be used for the attack, even if they weren't carrying a crossbow to begin with. Additionally, long bow arrows come from the rooftops, not crossbow bolts.
* Though a recruit receives white robes when they reach the rank of Assassino, any changes made to their outfit color before reaching the maximum rank will still be present on the underside of their capes.

;Combat
* Ezio signaling for the help of his apprentices is called a "B.A.M." or "Brotherhood Assistance Maneuver."
* While in combat, apprentices have predictable attack patterns. Once called in, they will immediately attack the enemy that was targeted when the B.A.M. was called in. Once that enemy is dead, they will attempt to use their hidden blade for high-profile assassinations to kill any remaining enemies that aren't guarding against it, usually throwing a smoke bomb to allow for instant kills. Then, once engaged with any enemy, they will either slash indiscriminately with regular kicks, or parry blows until they can successfully pull off a counter kill.
* Sometimes during combat, the apprentices will glitch and just stand immobile during a fight. This can also happen if they kill their own opponent, but other enemies remain around.
* While the Arrow Storm is meant to kill all guards within sight, at times there will be one that might survive the attack, particularly if they are targeted by Ezio.
* Apprentices usually experience difficulties in defeating Brutes and Seekers during a one-on-one battle, even as full-fledged Assassins.
** However, apprentices have little trouble engaging in combat with Papal Guards.
* Unlike Ezio, apprentices can use their pistol at the same time as a heavy weapon (if equipped).
* There is a glitch that occurs when both an Assassin and Ezio try to assassinate the same target simultaneously. They will both appear to leap on him in high profile, but Ezio will then promptly teleport onto the next closest guard, killing him as well.
* If you call your apprentices from on top of the Castel Sant'Angelo, they will not leave afterwards.
* If you call your apprentices from inside a hay cart, it is likely that one of them will jump out of the same cart and assassinate your foes.
* It is possible to kill an apprentice by using the Apple of Eden with him or her in the blast range.
* If you call your apprentices to attack a group of guards, it is possible to see that the apprentices appear out of nowhere with a sparkling effect similar to blending.

;Behavior
* Once an apprentice is promoted to the rank of Assassino, there is a cutscene showing the Assassin performing a Leap of Faith into the Tiber River, despite the fact that they cannot swim.
* In the Story Trailer, the video showed an Assassin walking off the edge, instead of running and taking a Leap of Faith.
* Within the Tiber hideout, only two apprentices will acknowledge Ezio's presence and greet him if he stands in front of them. This applies to the apprentice standing alone in the corner of the main room, and the one standing in the ceremonial hall.
* Apprentices can sometimes be heard saying "Requiescat in pace," among other such phrases to dead enemies when a skirmish is won.
** Alternatively, they may walk up to Ezio to bow and say "I won't forget what you did for me" or "It is an honor to fight alongside you," among other things.
* Occasionally, after a battle is won, recruits will kneel and stay kneeling until Ezio leaves the area.
* If you try to follow an apprentice, they will eventually get to Tiber Island and stop; though taking various confusing turns along the way, in an attempt to disappear from the player's screen. Alternately, they will simply run along a single set path, or vanish into the ground. Generally, they will all just disappear when Ezio breaks his line of sight with them for at most five seconds.
* Apprentices receive no damage from falling, even from the top of the Castel Sant'Angelo. Also, if a guard pushes an apprentice into water, they will not die, but simply return to the Tiber Island hideout.
* Even if all your apprentices are women, the Assassin recruits in the mission "Exit Stage Right" will always be male.
* The apprentices will never travel alongside Ezio. Once their targets are dead, they will flee. This contradicts many videos produced by Ubisoft showing groups of apprentices walking or standing beside Ezio.
* The apprentices' clothes are not physics-enabled, except for the cape.
* If all of your Recruits have achieved the Rank of Assassino and one of your Assassins dies, you will have to raise another to the rank of Assassino. However, in the Ceremony, all of your Assassins will appear as Recruits.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations
;Equipment
* The appearance of apprentices in Assassin's Creed: Revelations can be adjusted by selecting if they wear hoods or masks. The hair color of female apprentices can be changed if the color of their uniform is changed too.
* In concept and promotional artwork, as well as in trailers, Apprentices can be seen using pikes (unseen in-game) and crossbows (even when they have yet to reach the rank of Assassin). They are also seen wearing a variant of the plate armor.
* When a recruit reaches the rank of Master Assassin, they use robes similar to the robes of Yusuf Tazim.

;Combat
*If a recruit is raised to the rank of Assassin, they will not die in battle. Rather, they will be "injured" and be unavailable for combat or missions for 20 minutes.

;Behavior
*In Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the apprentices will develop more of a personality. When they reach level 10 they can be assigned to protect Assassin Dens to train to become Master Assassins at level 15.
