The Crystal Skulls are Pieces of Eden created by Those Who Came Before. They were scattered throughout Central America, and South America, mainly coming into the possession of Aztec,Maya and Inca Civilizations.

In 1520, one Skull was located by Giovanni Borgia, an Assassin who had been sent to become a member of Hernán Cortés' crew in order to search for Pieces of Eden. He managed to intercept one from an Aztec priest in Tenochtitlan, where it was being used as part of a human sacrifice ritual. Upon returning to Europe, he took it to Bombastus, who was an expert in studying the Pieces of Eden.

After having studied the skull over the years, an unknown Chinese man used the skull's communicative powers to contact and warn Giovanni in 1542.

Trivia
*Though not named explicitly, several of the Skulls presumably came into possession of Abstergo, as Alan Rikkin notes in an email to Warren Vidic that the Mitchell-Hedges Communicators worked. Hence, it is assumed that the power of the Crystall Skulls had been used as a form of communication that modern-day Assassins would be unable to trace.

*Myths about the Crystal Skulls containing vast amounts of knowledge may be explained by the fact that they are Pieces of Eden.
*Interestingly, a Chinese man seems to have possession of another Skull in 1542. In Assassin's Creed, one of the messages on Desmond's wall (left by Subject 16) refers to Emperor Jianjing, a Chinese emperor who sought mysterious relics, and was nearly assassinated in 1542. The same message also refers to Quetzlcoatl, an Aztec god. At least one Skull was kept by Aztecs, and one kept by a Chinese man in the time of Jianjing. The message probably refers to the Skulls in that sense.<br /><br />

Spoilerhd
revamp
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, several outfits are available to those who complete certain challenges. Once an outfit is unlocked and equipped, it will alter Ezio Auditore's appearance, but, unlike armor, most of the costumes will not affect any other gameplay elements.

Outfits can be unlocked through a variety of methods, which are enumerated below.

Capes
Plain Cape
Available from the beginning, this cape has no effect on Notoriety, and is the only one that can be dyed.

Auditore Cape
Unlocked by completely rebuilding Rome.

Originally handcrafted by Maria Auditore da Firenze in her mourning of a lost child, this cape allows Ezio to show his pride for the Auditore family. It was lost during the Siege of Monteriggioni and given to Rodrigo Borgia's youngest son, Jofré Borgia as a war gift.

Ezio reacquires the cape after rebuilding Rome to 100% when the Assassins stole it from Jofre's collection. It also makes Ezio permanently Incognito - a very useful feature when you wish to explore the various districts and obtain their many collectibles without being harassed by guards. Once you remove the cape, your Notoriety gauge will return to its original level.

Borgia Cape
Unlocked by removing all 101 Borgia flags from Rome.

Functionally identical to the Auditore cape, notoriety stays at zero while the cape is worn and resets to its original level when removed.

Medici Cape
Unlocked by reaching level 30 in Brotherhoods multiplayer mode or by completing the Auditore Mnemonic set in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy. This cape does not affect notoriety and cannot be dyed.

It can also be found at Monteriggioni while playing with Desmond, however, it can't be used by him.

Venetian Cape
Unlocked by reaching level 30 in Brotherhoods multiplayer mode or by completing the Auditore Mnemonic set in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy. This cape does not affect notoriety and cannot be dyed.

General Appearance
: "Once the basics are covered, Ezio may divert some of his income toward the sartorial elegance that is deserved of a major player in Roman political affairs. The Tailor now offers 15 new clothes and cape dyes, devoid of any gameplay influence and included purely for the pleasure of defining Ezio in your chosen style and aesthetic." - The Complete Official Guide: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Armor of Altaïr
Armor of Altaïr
Unlocked by purchasing on Uplay for 20 Uplay Units.

The Grand Master Robes of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. Worn by Ezio Auditore after completing all of the Assassin's Tombs in Assassin's Creed II. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it is worn in the last Cristina memory, and in the beginning of the game until it is lost in the Siege of Monteriggioni. Although it is says it is the armor, it does NOT change the defense stats of what you had before, as it is only an outfit.

Altaïr's Robes
Unlocked by purchasing on Uplay for 20 Uplay Units.

Accesses Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's skin from the Animus databases, though it will not affect Ezio's current equipment, armor settings or the abilities of the cape he was previously wearing. The outfit actually loads the model of Altaïr, rather than just his clothing, as is visible from color of his eyes, which are lighter than Ezio's, and the fact that the player is silent during taunts, rather than using Ezio's voice. Altaïr's missing finger can also be seen on the character model when this outfit is equipped.

Florentine Noble Attire
Unlocked by purchasing on Uplay for 20 Uplay Units.

Worn by Ezio Auditore in Florence during the beginning of Assassin's Creed II. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it is worn during the first Cristina memory. Accessible before Apple Of Eden missions when leaving Animus.

Desmond Miles Skin
Unlocked by attaining 100% Synchronization in Sequence 8.

Purely cosmetic, this skin allows the player to look like Desmond Miles inside the Animus 2.0. The style of walking and free-running is that of Desmond's.

Raiden Skin
Raiden Skin
Unlocked by completing every Virtual Training challenge with at least a bronze medal.

This outfit is in homage to the VR-trained cybernetic ninja called Raiden, from Metal Gear Solid.

Trivia
*When you unlock a General Appearance outfit, they become available during your next play through.
*The effect of the Auditore Cape in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is the reverse of its effect in Assassin's Creed II.
*Unlike in the game itself, the image of Altaïr's Robes in your inventory depicts Ezio wearing the robes, rather than Altaïr, as seen by his beard. The outfit also does not bear the beak-shaped hood, and shows Ezio wielding Altaïr's short blade, which is missing from its sheath in the game and is unusable.
*The image of Raiden's Outfit depicts Ezio unsheathing Raiden's katana, the High Frequency Blade, although it is not usable or present in the game.
*When using the Desmond skin, there is no need to use "shove" while running through a crowd.
*The Borgia Captain armor itself, though being worn by Ezio, appears red in Eagle Vision.
*The Medici Cape can also be found at Monteriggioni while playing with Desmond, however, it has no real purpose in the game other than being a collectible.
