The Circus Maximus (Italian: Circo Massimo) was the first and largest chariot-racing course located in ancient Rome. Julius Caesar ordered its construction after a dream he had, where a huge arena that could host an entire population for a race could be build...when he woke up, he named it the ultimate (or best, enourmous, "grand", big) circus.

The Circus Maximus was first solely built for public entertainment and games by the Etruscan kings of Rome. After many years, Julius Caesar expanded the Circus Maximus to give enough place for 270.000 to 300.000 spectators, because of the increased popularity of Rome. The track, able to hold 12 chariots, was now 2,037 ft. (621m) in length, and 387 ft. (150m) breadth. Each race that was set here went for a total distance of about 4 miles (6.5km).

The last known chariot race was held by Totila in 549, because the Circus Maximus was never used again, most of it was destroyed by nature, making big parts of the track and seats disappear.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
During the events of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the circuit has been worn of old age, now used as a common road for horses. The Templar Agent Donato Mancini was found here riding his horse escorted by his gurads, where he was assassinated by Ezio Auditore.

Many of members of the Cento Occhi gang practice horse riding in the Circo Massimo.

Trivia
*Prostitution was popular along the gates of the Circus Maximus.

Biography
Early life and carreer
Fabio Orsini was born in 1476 or 1477, the son of Paolo Orsini. He was trained in the art of battle at an early age, already participating in a battle to help the Sienese at Montepulciano.

Affiliations with the Borgia
Around three years after the battle at Montepulciano, he joined his cousin Bartolomeo d'Alviano in a battle against the Savelli family. Following the battle, he married Jeronima Borgia, who was the cousin of Papal Commander Cesare Borgia. He supported his in-law family for some time, until he freed an imprisoned friend from the Tor di Nona. He had to continue serving the Borgia against his will, however, as Cesare managed to bring the Orsini family to their knees.

Later life
In 1500, Fabio lent an old storehouse to the Assassin Order, hoping that it would aid them in their war against the Borgia. He was also aware of the fact that his cousin Bartolomeo was amongst their numbers, as he had heard many stories about Bartolomeo's fellow Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Later, Fabio attacked Micheletto Corella's army after Cesare had Fabio's father Paolo killed. He was unable to defeat Micheletto however and lost his status. He then became an outlaw, raiding the countryside, and a warrant for his arrest was placed on him by Pope Alexander VI.

After the death of Pope Alexander VI and his son Cesare became disfavored, Fabio entered Pope Julius II's service. He led the Papal armies to arrest Cesare for murder, betrayal and incest.

In late 1503, he participated in the battle of Garigliano alongside Bartolomeo. However, Fabio died in 1504 of a head wound he received during the battle.

Trivia
*Fabio Orsini's armor resembles that seen in an early design for the Papal guard, as seen in the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood teaser trailer and Assassin's Creed: Ascendance.
