The Temple of Pythagoras was an ancient temple located beneath Rome, built by the Pythagoreans, the followers of Pythagoras.

History
During his time at the Villa Auditore, Leonardo da Vinci researched about the Temple of Pythagoras. As his research advanced, he decided to draw a map to its entrance, and used invisible ink to sketch the pieces of the map onto his paintings on the villa's walls. However, when the city was attacked, the paintings fell into the hands of the Borgia family.

As Leonardo continued his research until 1506 in Rome, he eventually came into contact with the Cult of Hermes. He frequently visited the personal library of the Cult's leader, Ercole Massimo, in order to acquire even more information on the subject. Eventually, he was kidnapped by the Hermeticists, who desired the location of the temple, and the "Pythagorean Unifier" that was said to be hidden within it.

The Assassin Ezio Auditore managed to gather the paintings and, with the help of Leonardo's assistant Salaì, discovered the temple's location. Upon rescuing Leonardo from the cultists, the two ventured deeper to explore the Temple of Pythagoras together, until they eventually stumbled upon the final chamber, a vault with a strange device in its center. When Ezio placed his hand on it, his DNA communed with the pedestal, revealing the coordinates: 43 39 19N 75 27 42W. Ultimately, however, he decided that it would be best to leave it and do nothing, saying that the message was not meant for them.

Trivia
*The aforementioned coordinates reveal a reservoir, which is connected to Black River near the village of Turin, in proximity to Whetstone Gulf State Park in New York - This location is roughly in the same area as one shown when Ezio uses his Eagle Vision after the Codex Pages are put together [1].
*Connecting the above coordinates with Rome, New York to the South and Florence, New York to the West while measuring the approximate distances with Bing maps results in an almost perfect Pythagorean triangle.
*The coordinates may be near the location of the Vault in New York, as that is where Desmond ends up at the end of Assassin's Creed: Revelations and where Assassin's Creed III primarily take place.
Firearms, or Guns, were a class of long-ranged weapons that launched projectiles at high velocity, through the confined burning of propellents. They were used as early as the late Middle Ages.

History
High Middle Ages
Though he knew of firearms being used in ancient China, the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad took little interest in them, realizing that the weapons were of no use to his Order in their current size.

As such, upon obtaining the Apple of Eden, he successfully used the knowledge it held to miniaturize the design, "embedding their fiery weapon into a form that can be worn on the wrist."

Along with the formulation of a combustible powder that could be made from common ingredients, Altaïr kept the schematics for the hidden gun a secret available to only the Brotherhood's most trusted allies.

Sometime afterwards, he recorded all details of these in his personal journal.

Renaissance
In Italy during the Renaissance, another Assassin, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, came into possession of Altaïr's Codex, and showed the pages to Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo deciphered the instructions, and was able to construct the hidden gun for Ezio's use.

Though firearms were uncommon until the early 16th century, after Cesare Borgia forcibly recruited Leonardo into his employ around 1499, the engineer was made to design a wheel-lock firearm, for use by the Borgia armies.

Cesare's ally, the French Baron Octavian de Valois, received a personalized, golden wheellock firearm from Leonardo, and kept it with him at all times. During the Fall of Monteriggioni, Cesare used this pistol to kill Mario Auditore.

A variety of firearms began to circulate among common guards as well, with Arquebusiers wielding long rifles or arquebuses, and with several Horsemen and Papal Guards using shorter pistols.

In later years, upon Ezio's travels to Constantinople, he encountered Turkish soldiers using Ottoman Flintlock Rifles, as well as Janissaries who used short pistols. The Assassins of the local guild also made use of firearms to guard the Assassin Dens.

American Revolution
Some of this information has not been verified, and is based upon rumor.

It has been revealed that Connor will be not only be able to wield firearms, such as a pistol, but he will be able to dual-wield Flintlock Pistols. In some leaked screenshots, Connor is also using a rifle.

Russian Revolution
During the late 19th and early 20th century, in the Russian Revolution, the Russian Assassin Nikolai Orelov wielded a modern bolt-action Mosin-Nagant rifle alongside the usual weaponry of his time.

Modern times
In 2012, Assassins continued to wield firearms in combat, and once used them on a direct assault on Abstergo Industries, in an attempt to rescue Desmond Miles.

Though Desmond overheard the exchanged gunshots over the intercom, Warren Vidic eventually told him that the rescue attempt had failed, and that most of the team had been killed.

Trivia
*A number of firearms are available in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy, including the arquebus, .303 SMLE, and M1917 revolver.
Description
At the age of 24, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad returns to Masyaf on horseback and finds the mountainous village under siege. After helping a fellow Assassin fend off two Templars, he confronts the man that ordered the attack, Haras. However, the gates are closed, so Altaïr scales the fortress wall to save Al Mualim.

Dialogue
Altaïr rides into the besieged town and saves a fellow Assassin.
*Altaïr: Are you hurt?
*Assassin: Broken foot.<br />What is your name, brother?
*Altaïr: Altaïr. Son of Umar.
*Assassin: Umar... ah yes. He was a fine man who lived as he died. With honor.
Abbas comes running to Altaïr.
*Abbas: Altaïr! We have been betrayed. The enemy has overrun the castle!
*Altaïr: You'll live.
Altaïr turns towards Abbas.
*Altaïr: And Al Mualim? Where is he?
*Abbas: He was inside when the crusaders broke through. We can do nothing for him now.<br />Altaïr! We must fall back!
*Altaïr: When I close the castle gate, flank the crusaders in the village and drive them into the canyon.
*Abbas: You don't stand a chance!
*Altaïr: Abbas. No mistakes.
Altaïr makes his way to the Masyaf gate and is confronted by Haras, whose men are holding Al Mualim.
*Haras: Another step and your Mentor dies.
*Altaïr: You will not leave this place alive, traitor.
*Haras: No. You misunderstand. I am no traitor...<br />... for I cannot betray those I never truly loved.

*Altaïr: Then you are double wretched, for you have been living a lie.
Altaïr starts infiltrating the castle, while Haras kills many Assassins.
*Haras: Now you call on your lapdog to protect you? You disappoint me. Why not share what you have learned with everyone, like a proper Assassin. Why not share with your brothers the true extent of your ambition? Where is your sense of fraternity?<br />Another good man dies, and still you say nothing! I am surprised. You taught me many things, Al Mualim, but patience was not one of them. Speak now, or I will cut out your tongue that you may speak no more!<br />Your time is running out, old man. Tell me what you know of the artifact! Tell me where you are searching for it. It is a small price to pay to preserve what you have built here, no?
Altaïr assassinates Haras.
*Haras: You put too much faith in the hearts of men, Altaïr. The Templars know the truth. Humans are weak, base, and petty.
*Altaïr: No. Our Creed is evidence to the contrary.
*Haras: Ah... perhaps I am not wise enough to understand, but I suspect the opposite. That I am too wise to believe such rubbish.
Haras dies and Altaïr walks with Al Mualim.

*Al Mualim: You offered him a chance to salvage his dignity. Why?
*Altaïr: No man should pass from this world without knowing some kindness.
*Al Mualim: But he shunned your graces.
*Altaïr: As was his right.
*Al Mualim: Altaïr, I have watched you grow from a boy to a man in so short a time, it fills me with as much sadness as pride. You fit your father's shoes as if they had been tailored to your feet.
*Altaïr: I did not know him well as a father. He was an Assassin above all.
*Al Mualim: You too were born into this Order. Do you regret it?
*Altaïr: How can I regret the only life I have ever known?
*Al Mualim: You may find a way, in time. And it will be up to you to choose the path you prefer. Come, my boy... and ready your blade. This battle is not yet won.

Outcome
Altaïr kills Haras and saves Al Mualim.

Trivia
*To achieve full synchronization, Altaïr must save all civilians. These citizens are four people represented by black dots on your minimap who are being attacked by two Templar soldiers.
*A rare Easter Egg can be seen. If you use your Eagle Sense, you can see one of the Assassins in red.
*Although the Crossbow was not in Assassin's Creed due to timeline concerns, Haras uses it to kill his Assassin hostages. It is also used by ordinary Templar soldiers.
*In this memory, Altaïr is able to perform certain assassination techniques that he couldn't in Assassin's Creed, set two years later, such as the air assassination and ledge assassination maneuvers.
*Though it may be caused by other means, after beating the main storyline, Alta<span style="font-style: normal; ">ïr has the same facial hair he has in A New Regime, along with the Double-Hidden Blade.</span>
