'''Blacksmiths''' were metalworkers who made various objects ranging from weapons of war to simple objects of daily use, such as utensils and locks. During the Renaissance, skilled blacksmiths began to apply their practical craft towards making art, to which architectural ironwork flourished.

Blacksmiths also made a wide variety of weapons and armor, and capitalizing on this opportunity, the [[Assassins]] armed themselves by purchasing blacksmiths' wares. The Templars also used the blacksmiths throughout history to arm themselves and their troops, one example being [[Cesare Borgia]] employing at least one skilled blacksmith – [[Auguste Oberlin]] – to his workforce, who crafted weapons for most of Cesare's army.

Most equipment was available with any blacksmith in any city, with the exception being that the blacksmith in [[Monteriggioni]] was the only one who sold the [[Condottiero War Hammer]] (with the collection of fifty [[feathers]]) and the [[Sword of Altaïr]] before the S[[siege of Monteriggioni|iege of Monteriggioni]].

==Repair==
Blacksmiths repaired both broken and partially broken armor. [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] could get all of his equipped armor repaired at once, or as individual pieces. The cost to repair a piece of armor varied with its quality and where on the body it was worn.

*Blacksmiths seemed to be more brash towards Ezio than the other merchants, blatantly admitting surprise that he was able to afford any of their wares. However, in ''[[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood]]'', this aspect was toned down; they instead made subtly offensive remarks like ''"One man's coin is as good as another's"'' when Ezio bought something from them.

In the High Middle Ages, guards used no other melee weapon but swords, and the guards of [[Masyaf]] regularly practiced swordplay in the courtyard, stressing how important it was to wield a blade. Maces were uncommon at the time, and the sword was a mainstay in any arsenal, even for [[archers]].

The sword became available to an Assassin upon reaching the second [[Ranks|rank]], with more powerful, better quality swords being presented to him as he progressed. [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]] began with a dull-gray sword that lacked a guard and had a curved hilt. His second sword resembled the first, though it possessed a silvery sheen and a distinct pommel.

The third sword was [[Sword of Altaïr|his personal weapon]], which was constructed of a hand guard that was shaped like an eagle's wings, along with an eagle's head at the pommel. Altaïr's final sword was the [[Syrian Sabre]]. Come the [[Renaissance]], maces had become equally as popular as the sword, and matched them in use and availability. The first sword [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] obtained came from [[Giovanni Auditore da Firenze|his father]], and was stored in a chest hidden in the [[Palazzo Auditore]]. However, he quickly lost it when he was disarmed in his attempt to save his father and brothers from execution.

Ezio was later equipped with a similar sword, courtesy of his uncle, [[Mario Auditore]], when he arrived at [[Monteriggioni]]. [[Haytham Kenway]], Edward's son, utilized a short-sword in combat during his early life, though it was ultimately lost in a in a duel with the Assassin [[Miko]] in [[Corsica]]. Years late, upon his arrival in the American colonies, Haytham used a saber during the [[Seven Years' War]] and the [[American Revolutionary War]].

The Assassin-turned-Templar, [[Shay Cormac]], dual-wielded a sword and a parrying dagger, similar to the pair of 12th century Templar brothers, [[Shalim]] and [[Shahar]].

Haytham's son, the [[Colonial Assassins|Colonial Assassin]] [[Ratonhnhaké:ton|Connor]], was known to utilize a combined sword and Hidden Blade attacks in combat. Around this time, the practice of sword-wielding amongst common soldiers had declined, with greater focus being placed on flintlock muskets with attached bayonets. Only the high-ranked officers were known to carry a sword on their person.

As well as weapons, Assassins bought ammunition for their ranged weapons from blacksmiths. Ammunition included [[throwing knives]], [[Bombs#Smoke bombs|smoke bombs]] and [[Hidden Gun|bullets]]. ==Trivia==
*Blacksmiths seemed to be more brash towards Ezio than the other merchants, blatantly admitting surprise that he was able to afford any of their wares. However, in ''[[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood]]'', this aspect was toned down; they instead made subtly offensive remarks like ''"One man's coin is as good as another's"'' when Ezio bought something from them.
*When going to a blacksmith in ''Brotherhood'', Ezio had the option to sell trading items for different amounts of money.
